"Thank God courage is as 'infectious' as discouragement."

Lovely, lovely devotional. I found it encouraging, inspiring, and challenging. Even for as much as I read, I often struggle to get into the Bible. A tiny voice in my head will go, "But I've read it before. Many times." And a book like this answers, "Keep reading."

Even as Amy Carmichael considered her sufferings nothing in the face of the New Testament martyrs, I think few of us can imagine experiencing what she did. She was an amazing, godly woman and she pours out her heart in these pages. Highly, highly recommend.

This is quite possibly one of the most important books to compliment true Christian Biblical discipleship - EVER!

In my view - it far outways any input of any of the 16th century theologians, who inadvertantly and devisively led Christians to their own particular version of the Gospel.

This sister, quite simply leads you to Christ Himself, carrying the full weight of authority, that a missionary (lost in Christ), fighting the Satanic darkness of organised paedophilia, and yet one of the greatest encouragers of the 20th century, and even still the Godly grandmother - every child could do with.

Every church needs an encourager, this teaches you how. (Ask God to give you wisdom, work on yourself - reading this book - and you're set.)

From my own testimony, I found this book when in full-blown depression, read its devotional annually for seven years. It equiped me, restoring my faith, teaching me how to win spiritual battles, of which, depression is the worst I've ever fought and won - and now teach others.

I have bought and given away many copies of this book over the years, both as: a ministry; and, a spiritual growth tool. Few books other than Scripture itself can lead you into relational Spiritual Christianity - away from dryness, as this one can.

I am beginning to count the delay between when the recipient receives this book from me, then phones me up/texts me to say "wow!"

Amy Carmichael is a beautiful spiritual writer. The meditations in this book always speak to me, regardless if read for the first time, or the fifth time. She is able to cut to the heart of things.

Hands down, this is one of my favorite devotionals. So many times, I opened this book, and found the encouragement that I needed for a given day and particular circumstance. This is one for my keeper shelf.

I have used this devotional for many years, and, almost always, the Lord uses Amy Carmichael's words to direct, exhort, and comfort me. I can't wait to meet this woman in heaven; she is one of my heroes.

Though I may not agree with every single theological point of hers, I have so much respect for Amy Carmichael. The more I read, the more I can see just how closely this woman walked with God. I automatically give 5 stars to any book that I plan to re-read. This devotional has so many thought-provoking nuggets in it that I feel I could re-read it many times and find something new to ponder each time.

One of my favorite Amy Carmichael devotionals is Edges of His Ways. I had never considered how attentive God is to detail until I picked this devotional up 20 years ago. It is ageless, I've read it again and again.

“There is nothing eternal in our bonds, but the loosing is eternal.”

“Sorrow is one of the things that are lent, not given. A thing that is lent may be taken away; a thing that is given is not take away. Joy is given; sorrow is lent. (1 Cor. 6:19-20) We are not our own, we are bought with a price, "and our sorrow is not our own" (Samuel Rutherford said this a long time ago), it is lent to us for just a little while that we may use it for eternal purposes.”

I bought this book because I admired Amy Carmichael’s poetry only to discover it was a daily devotional. It did have poetry by her, but one had to wait for the day’s read that inspired one. I learned that Amy utilized many resources to understand her daily Bible reading.

I love and have been helped by many of AC's writings, but this collection was mostly meh. There are probably enough insightful devotional thoughts for a 30-day collection, but not 365.

I love Amy C. This was a great devotion. Although I read it like a book. So much wisdom.

BEST DEVOTIONAL PERIOD

I'd read a biography of Amy Carmichael previously and admired her, but her devotional was even more helpful. Her thoughts were my thoughts, and she knew exactly what I needed to hear. It's simply the best Christian devotional I've ever read, and I've read many. There is a lot of garbage on the market; this read is a rare jewel.
