Enchant

Rate this book
An enchanted apple. A forbidden love. Just one bite to end it all.

Lady Eira Cannaid is the fairest in all the land, but beneath her beauty lies the scars inflicted by her abusive stepmother. Raised far from court, Eira is lured to the palace with the promise of a ball. One night of dancing won’t make all her dreams come true, but it’s a welcome break from the monotony of her life.

But promises are easily broken. Eira soon realizes her scheming stepmother is determined to raise her own standing at court by bartering Eira’s virginity to the king as his bride.

In a land where magic is forbidden, Eira possesses something far more valuable than her maidenhood. Something she’s kept hidden even from her stepmother. A power swirling in her blood that she must learn to control or risk it being used against her.

Lurking in the shadows is the king’s heir, a prince willing to court the ire of his father to claim what he believes is rightfully his—and he’ll do anything to ruin Eira before his father has the chance.

To escape not just the prince’s threats, but the unwanted marriage, and her stepmother’s nefarious schemes, Eira will have to trust a complete stranger. A handsome huntsman who could be either her salvation, or her undoing.

The path to her happily ever after is paved with treachery, deceit, and betrayal. Eira will risk everything to claim what’s rightfully hers, and it begins with an enchanted apple that will end her life.

Enchant is the first book in a new series featuring court intrigue, hidden royalty, and a compelling enemies-to-lovers romance. Perfect for fans who enjoy fairytale retellings with darker themes.

I loved this Snow White retelling, with the kingdoms merging, the ban of magic, and the messings of memories. It kind of had a Cinderella add with Snow being the one to have the evil stepmother. I wish I knew things I still have questions on… why did the king ban magic if his mistress was a witch? Why did Annah try to choke Eira when she was gullible in the plan? How did Gil even die?? Did the fake prisoner spy or was just there stealing magic or really no purpose whatsoever? Why all the woodland creatures gifts? How did the secret passages even work and why did they only use half the time? If the mirror could sense another person entering the antechamber why couldn’t it tell Eira was in the room when the blanket covered the mirror? Why was there no surprise or comeback to Leon being ordered to kill Eira and bring back her heart?

I skipped large parts and it still made sense. Too much filler.

***DNF after Chapter 13. I had such high hopes for this Snow White retelling but it just didn’t work for me. Thankfully I got it for free during the Stuff My Kindle Day promotion which made it even easier to let go. If I had purchased it, I may have been incentivized to stick with it. Anyway, on to a different book.

More 3.5 stars. I liked the book but, in my opinion, there are too many repetitions. It could have been more action filled without them.

The girl he used to know would never have consented to marrying the king, thinks the Prince… about a girl he knew when she was 3 and he was 6 years old. Yes, toddlers probably wouldn’t be interested in marrying the king. Unfortunately, this head scratch moment was just the last one I could stand after pages of them, and I think this was maybe 3 chapters in? Every character was a 1-dimensional stereotype… what am I saying, the story was a 1-dimensional stereotype. There are some well done fairy tale retellings out there, this isn’t one of them.

I was only able to get to chapter 5 before dnfing. I wanted to like this, I really did. In the four chapters that I read, the characters spoke maybe 5 or 10 times. I skimmed chapter 5 and saw people speaking, but it was only 3 lines and it was, from what I could tell, background characters talking down the main character. Luckily I got this book from last years Stuff Your Kindle Day.

Enchanting modern fairytale- a must read for fantasy lovers

Loved this book. I couldn't put it down.
If you like your fairytales and grew up with Snow White, I highly recommend reading this. It is a modern translation and is a story on its own, so don't compare it with the story you grew up with. It was a good read and great for sitting back and chilling.

I got this book for free on a “Stuff Your Kindle” day awhile back, and honestly I understand why it was free. I appreciated the nod to the original story of Snow White, but this was very sloppily written with a lot of loopholes. A good read for someone who likes fluffy fantasy romances with unreliable narrators and forced happy endings.

2.5/5. Okay, so, I enjoyed the book, but there were a lot of parts that were just kind of shoved in there? Pieces of the puzzle that didn’t really have a textual basis or any lead-up, etc. There seemed to be more info dumping in the middle of scenes (breaking the flow of then, imo) than I would like. Fun book, but kinda disjointed.

A New Take on Snow White

The twists just kept coming! The pacing is a bit slower to start and finishes quickly but the overall story is sweet as an apple with all of the magic of a classic fairytale.

A refreshing retelling of Snow-white for sure. Loved it! Definitely recommend it to people who like fairytales, strong FMC and don't mind the 'older' language.

The story was good but it dragged a bit. I was ready for it to be done and was only 70% through.

I was between a 3 and 4

The beginning was slow and confusing, and some things were wrapped up too nicely/simply, but overall it was a cool retelling of Snow White.

A good retelling of the Snow White story. It’s a nice read and uses the plot well. This could a a bit shorter but enjoyable.

"Love will make you do crazy things."

A Stuff Your Kindle Day find - pretty straightforward Snow White retelling, but Snow White has magic, basically. I like the much more cunning evil stepmother, it definitely gave her some depth as a character. And the prince had more than one scene so it's world's more character development than the prince from the original movie, which is also nice.

I did not like this book unfortunately. The main character felt like a pick-me who only existed to respond to the other characters saving her with her journey of self improvement throughout the book non-existed without the other main character. The spice had far too much emphasis on unnecessary detail like the constant repetition of her virginity a key point in the book even after the moment. The romance had no grounds and honestly felt the MMC was quite creepy especially with the past and possessive. The side characters were unoriginal at best and the brothers especially were very lacklustre especially with their personality.

Positives I liked the twist with the stepmother and the mistress it had some elements of surprise to the end of the book.

Overall found this book to be not to my taste at all.
