ധൈര്യപൂർവ്വം മലയാളത്തിൽ വേറിട്ട ക്രൈം ജോണർ പരീക്ഷണങ്ങൾ നടത്തുകയും അത്‌ വിജയിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്ത്‌ കാണിക്കുന്ന എഴുത്തുകാരൻ ആണ് ലാജോ ജോസ്‌. എല്ലാ മനുഷ്യരിലും ഉണ്ടാവും ഒളിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന കുറ്റവാസന. അത്‌ പുറത്തെടുത്തുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ചില മനുഷ്യരുടെ കഥ. അത്യുജ്ജ്വലമായ മുഹൂർത്തങ്ങൾ എന്ന് തോന്നിയ ഭാഗങ്ങളില്ലായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും, പിടിച്ച്‌ ഇരുത്തി വായിപ്പിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞത്‌ കഥയുടെ വേറിട്ട്‌ നിൽക്കുന്ന ആഖ്യാനശൈലിയും പുതുമയുമാണ്. പ്രണയമാണോ പകയാണോ അതോ അത്യാഗ്രഹമാണോ ഏതിൽ ആണ് ഇതിലെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ മുൻപന്തിയിൽ എന്ന് വായിച്ച്‌ തന്നെ അറിയേണ്ടതാണ്.

ഹൈഡ്രാഞ്ചിയ പൂക്കൾ പോലെ ഓറഞ്ച്‌ തോട്ടവും കുറേ നാൾ മനസ്സിൽ സ്ഥാനം പിടിക്കും..

അങ്ങനെ ലാജോ ജോസിന്റെ ആറാമത്തെ പുസ്തകവും വായിച്ച്‌ തീർത്തു. 🫶

"Oranju Thottathile Adhithikal" by Lajo Jose is a captivating read.
Once again, Lajo Jose showcases his talent, particularly in the crime genre, making this novel a page-turner. After reading his first novel, I became addicted to his writing. I bought this book over a month ago, but my mother, a huge fan of Lajo Jose, claimed it before I could. She couldn't put it down, reading it more than twice. Finally, this week, I got my hands on it. The characters are vividly described, and the narrative brings each scene to life, making it feel like you're right there witnessing it. Joshua's character left a lasting impact on me. Overall, it's an amazing book, truly a page-turner.

Reading this gave me the same experience of watching a bad Abbas Mustan film. Never ending twists that are borderline stupid and peak whataboutery, and also typical sleaziness that has become a common trope in all of his books.

ലാജോ ജോസിന്റെ “ഓറഞ്ച് തോട്ടത്തിലെ അതിഥി” മനുഷ്യരുടെ മനസ്സിനെയും ബന്ധങ്ങളെയും ആഴത്തിൽ പരിശോധിക്കുന്ന ഒരു നോവലാണ്. ഒരു കുറ്റകൃത്യം എത്ര പൂർണമായും (perfect) ആസൂത്രണം ചെയ്താലും അതിന് തെറ്റുകൾ ഉണ്ടാകുമെന്ന സന്ദേശം ഈ കഥ നൽകുന്നു.

ഇന്നത്തെ കാലത്ത് മനുഷ്യനെ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ബാധിക്കുന്നത് അവന്റെ ബന്ധങ്ങളാണ് — ചിലപ്പോൾ അതിന്റെ ആഴം നമുക്ക് തന്നെ മനസ്സിലാകാത്തതായിരിക്കും. വീടുകൾക്കുള്ളിലെ ജീവിതങ്ങളിലെയും അവിടെയുള്ള രഹസ്യങ്ങളിലെയും കുറ്റകൃത്യങ്ങളിലെയും കഥകളാണ് ഡൊമസ്റ്റിക് ത്രില്ലർ എന്ന വിഭാഗത്തിൽപ്പെടുന്നത്.

ലാജോ ജോസിൻ്റെ നോവലുകളുടെ പ്രത്യേകത എഴുത്തിലെ വ്യത്യസ്തതയാണ്. ഓരോ നോവലുകളിലും ആ വ്യത്യസ്തത കൊണ്ടുവരാൻ അദ്ദേഹം ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാറുണ്ട്. ക്രൈം ത്രില്ലറുകളാണ് എഴുതുന്നതെങ്കിലും വ്യത്യസ്ത ജോണറുകളിൽ ഉള്ള ക്രൈം ത്രില്ലറുകളാണ് ലാജോയുടെ ഓരോ പുസ്തകങ്ങളും. "ഓറഞ്ച് തോട്ടത്തിലെ അതിഥി" യിലേക്ക് വരുമ്പോഴും പുതുമ കൊണ്ടുവരാൻ എഴുത്തുകാരൻ ശ്രമിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. സാധാരണ ക്രൈം ത്രില്ലറുകളിലെ പോലെ കുറ്റകൃത്യം നടന്നതിന് ശേഷം തുടർന്നുള്ള അന്വേഷണമല്ല ഇവിടെ പ്രമേയമായി വരുന്നത്, പകരം ഒരു കുറ്റകൃത്യത്തിന് വേണ്ടിയുള്ള തയ്യാറെടുപ്പുകളാണ്.

എടുത്ത് പറയാൻ അനേകം കഥപാത്രങ്ങളില്ലാതെ, വിരലുകളിലെണ്ണാവുന്ന കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ മാത്രമാണ് കഥയിൽ വന്നുപോകുന്നത്. ക്രൈം ത്രില്ലറുകളിൽ സാധാരണ കാണാത്ത പോലെ, പ്രധാന കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളായ വിവേക്, ജോഷ്വ, അനുപമ എന്നിവരുടെ മാത്രം വീക്ഷണകോണുകളിലൂടെയാണ് കഥ പറഞ്ഞുപോകുന്നത്. ആവശ്യത്തിന് സസ്‌പെൻസുകൾ കൂടി ചേർത്തിട്ടുള്ളത് കൊണ്ടും, കഥയിലെ വ്യത്യസ്തത കൊണ്ടും വായന എവിടെയും മുഷിപ്പിക്കുന്നില്ല.

Might be an unpopular opinion, But this simply is tad better than whatever the fuck the author adapted with Amal neerad using his novel Roothinte lokham (Bougainville).

Wouldn't call tiz a novel tho. Tiz is some serious വാരിക aaahhhh Typa shi...with violence and cliffhangers. It has pretty good hooks & some high points. Characters are so one dimensional & the author creates twists for the sake of creating twists😴 (cue in Jeethu joseph's Mirage💣💥).

The biggest plus of this novel is that you learn about a new sub-genre in thrillers : domestic thriller ex: varathan, joji, kishkinda kaandam etc.

Definitely a light binge read material.

“Orange Thottathilae Adhithi” beautifully captures raw human emotions — anger 😡, love ❤️, betrayal 💔, selfishness 🙄 — in a way that feels very real. I felt that most of the characters moved only for their own selfish fulfilment, which made the story even more intense and unpredictable.

The suspense was strong throughout 🔥. Each chapter had a tension that kept me turning the pages, and many scenes were so vivid that I felt like I was watching a movie 🎬 rather than reading a book.

Overall, it’s a gripping, emotional, suspense-filled read that stays with you even after you close the book. 🍊✨📚

I personally didn’t like this story much. It was predictable from the very beginning. The storyline felt very much cliched, and while reading, it kept giving me “wait, I’ve seen this before” vibes. I was quite disappointed with this one, as I had expected a lot. This is just my opinion,maybe its bcuz my expectations were high but I still felt that the story was loosely stitched together.

This one left me with very mixed feelings. Unlike Lajo Jose’s other crime thrillers, this novel ventures into the space of a domestic thriller,a different attempt, but not one that fully landed for me.

The story revolves around just a handful of characters, yet none of them feel redeemable. Usually, there’s at least one character in a novel you can root for, but here, everyone seems morally grey or just outright bad. Joshua, Anupama, and Vivek all left an impression, competing with each other in how flawed they were. Maybe that's a reflection of real life or maybe just a darker lens on the world.

As for the climax or story arc — nothing much stood out. It didn’t leave a lasting impact on me. Probably one of those books that fades from memory over time.

This was a good read and reminds one of the famous international domestic thrillers in its structure. The fact that such an experiment was done in Malayalam is something to be proud of. I liked how the characters are depicted and that no excuse is provided to justify them and create heroes or heroines out of them. The toxicity of the characters are on full display.

ഒരു one time read. അത്രതന്നെ. ക്ലൈമാക്സ് കുറച്ചുകൂടി നന്നാക്കാമായിരുന്നു. എന്നിരുന്നാലും എല്ലാ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾക്കും ഒരു grey shade നൽകിയത് നന്നായി.
