As hoped, I took some very tangible and practical things out of this book to help me on my own nutrition journey.

Although I have been eating keto / low carb for two years, I do not have the background or understanding of the biological processes and functions that were being referenced, so I found myself skimming sections of the technical information, and thus feel like I've missed alot of the "meat" (pun intended) and depth of what was trying to be communicated.

I must say, respectfully, that this book needs an editor! It looks like it is a printout of an electronic document, showing all the links, but there is no way for me to access them. Which is disappointing, as they look to be helpful! There are many places where words seem to be missing, punctuation is wrong, and other simplistic copywriting errors are present, thus adding to my comprehension challenges. Several charts have very small fonts; sometimes without a legend, and sometimes the axes aren't labelled. I was forced to just pass over that information, and felt ill equipped to even try and understand what the conclusions were.

I would have really appreciated a food list, giving examples of the nutrient dense foods that were being mentioned throughout. And, I really wish there was a section that provided the web addresses for the links that were referenced in the book, especially the links that provided calculators and explanations.

So, all told, there are some very helpful take-aways I gleaned that were repeated throughout the book: I recognize the importance of significantly cutting back on fat in my diet; incrementally increasing protein; avoiding supplements while striving for nutrition from whole foods; and looking to consume quality foods that are higher in minerals and vitamins.

I believe I have enough information to move ahead with some adjustments to my own nutrition plans. I feel like the courses referenced would be interesting, but I'm fearful that my confusion will be compounded so I am hesitant to spend money on them.

3 stars because there is good stuff in here, but I sure had to work hard to extract it!! I do appreciate the author's desire and passion to engage the public arena and help dispel some of these myths. I definitely believed some of them and I do believe differently now.

Thank you, Mr. Kendall! And if you need an editor for your second edition, reach out to me, I'd love to help!😊

Having read what feels like a bazillion different books, blogs, articles & papers about nutrition, this book is probably the most helpful I’ve read. I’ve been attracted to the keto way of eating for a long time, but this book has explained why it might not be the most helpful way of eating for me in a balanced, factual and non-judgemental way. By covering individual myths, there’s a lot of repetition of information across each myth, but this only serves to consolidate what you’re learning rather than appear to be a low-value repeat. Finally, as a staunch ‘real’ book lover, I have to say I was reading the Kindle version on my laptop and I think it’s a great way to read it as there are a multitude of links out to more in-depth information which is very helpful. While you can sign up for various masterclasses etc. via Marty Kendall’s Optimising Nutrition website, I believe the info. in this book is sufficient to get you started.

To summarise in the most simplistic of ways - for those of us who want to lose weight, focussing on satiety and nutrient density is a very good place to start.

Marty Kendall website https://optimisingnutrition.com/ is a wealth of information on getting healthy without diet dogma. He is neither keto, LC or LF. Any way of eating will work when using your blood sugar to lose weight and get healthy. As an engineer whose wife and child has type 1 diabetes he has spent years watching what works for her and in turn has used that to build a platform to help anyone eat healthier and lose weight. Highly recommend as sensible way to maintain and become healthier.

great answers to lots of questions

This is a good book to read after doing keto for a while, say a few months. If you’re really interested in more of the details behind what keto does this book is a nice read, especially since you can skip around to questions and answers. There’s a bit of repetitiveness also which is nice because of the consistency in the data and similar information used to explain various topics.

I have been on a supervised keto plan for 6 months and have found it to be a good experience overall. This the first food plan I have been on where my physical appetite is largely under control. That is I am not constantly hungry. Reading this challenged my thinking a bit but also opened my eyes to the variations in how keto is practiced. That tells me we are still learning about nutrition and the variations in how our bodies process food.

The book dispels myths surrounding the keto diet and offers practical solutions for sustained weight loss, diabetes, and other health issues caused by excess body fat and high blood sugar levels.
