Life has its hard knocks but after aging out of the foster system Kayla and Brooke are finding adulting brutal. Kayla has a hard time keeping steady employment. Being an empath who can pick up on evil intentions makes you a bit confrontational. When Kayla and Brooke stumble through a God Portal to another planet, they must survive together as they battle a vampire who’s caused catastrophic devastation to the planet. In this paranormal romance, the two earth females have a fate to face on a doomed planet while dealing with the unruly antics of the Gods. Will Kayla’s protective spirit and Brooke’s faith be enough to save not only themselves but the people of Harmony’s world or will they be destroyed alongside them?
There is a sense of realness and relatability among the characters. It is amazing how well the author creates a visual for the reader to understand what is happening. People are well described in terms of their emotions in these situations, and the writers really took the time to consider how they would react. Twists and turns kept me wondering what would happen next. This is the first book I've ever read that has such a welcoming utopia and such a fiercely inclusive nature. Featuring friendship, adventure, love, and family, this is a wonderful story to read. Taking a stand to demonstrate that family doesn't have to come from blood.
I love reading paranormal romances and don't mind some trigger warnings on the darker side in my books ... But this is a DNF book for me, I'm at Chapter 10 and I can't anymore. It feels rushed, too slow, and missing better development at the same time, and it makes no sense whatsoever. In 10 chapters, there are conflicts that are too easily removed with new information but no explanations whatsoever, a magical warehouse/bedroom/wc with a door that doesn't work but they open it in the same chapter with no more effort, swirling the finger 3 times to sense for danger where the explanation comes later, and so many moments that the author seems to try to insert pagan words and paranormal related words with no context whatsoever. I mean, imprint? Am I reading a dragon-themed Twilight? I don't know what the 3 5-stars like, but this really wasn't for me, and won't finish it. "I practice building my magical connections daily." Maybe practice more critical thinking with it too.
Later edit: love how my review was taken out so not to change the 5-star ratings xD
Thank you to Tanya for allowing me to be part of her PR Box team and sending me physical ARC of this book. I really enjoyed the overall story, the characters and all the plot twists. This was the first book I've read that had dragons in it and I loved it, it also had so many other magical elements to it - I thought it would be hard to follow but the worldbuilding was extremely easy to follow and I was pulled into the story right from the start. All of the characters are lovable and I loved seeing the strong sister bond between the two female main characters Kayla and Brooke. They are sent through a magical portal into another planet that is under duress because of an evil vampire that haunts the Goddess Harmony's world. Kayla and Broke work together to bring back Harmony on the land and restore the land back to how it once was. The magic of the land and its people welcome them with open arms to come together to defeat the Vampire. They gained more than just a new family and they learned that the strength of sisterhood and the magic they share is one of the most powerful things and together they are unstoppable.
Book #14 for 2023 Harmony Interrupted by Tanya Steverding. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Kayla and Brooke are foster sisters. They age out of the system and end up living together. Life isn’t easy, especially for Kayla, who is perhaps more traumatized than Brooke. The women have psychic abilities that for Kayla, seem to interfere with her living a productive life. Brooke suggests they go camping, where they are lead by their intuition and abilities into a cave. Once in the cave the girls stumble upon a dragon’s lair and a magic portal kind of door that takes them to a different world. They find themselves on the planet Harmony where a goddess has brought them to help restore balance to her planet.
This is where it gets really strange (maybe because I never read fantasy, or maybe because its just pretty weird).
On this new planet there is an abundance of men, and hardly any women. The girls find that on this planet they have the ability to shift into dragons…and that because of that, they are considered the new queens of the planet. I believe the main goal of the girls was to increase the population so that their would be more women for the men on the planet…to keep the planet from dying out… and also to stop the vampire from destroying things any further.
There are battles, adventures, dragons and wolves, dragon babies… it was all very unique.
I’ll start with the negative….
Everyone is imprinting right and left… which seemed a little odd to me…. And also seemed to move the book along at a very intense pace… like, there wasn’t a lot of time, if any spent on character development, or the building of trust in relationships. Everyone just imprinted and then automatically loved each other.
This book has a little spice (but like, the trashy kind that makes you uncomfortable).
It was littered with poor grammar, which I think could have been avoided with a more careful reread, some of them were so bad… sentences that made no sense, character names being changed… not capitalizing beginnings of sentences, etc. It was incredibly distracting… like it felt like a rough draft…
The vampire character was very difficult for me to follow… his appearances are few, and brief, but I just never had any idea what he was talking about, except that he wanted to take out the queens…
Any conflict within the book was resolved very quickly without much effort… it just seemed too easy.
I think the book is set up that the girls would be the hero’s, but to me it felt like they just didn’t really do much, and it was the people of the planet Harmony that were the real heros.
Now, with the negative out of the way… Tanya is incredibly creative and imaginative. I really enjoyed the part of the story where the people of Harmony cared for each other and the planet… and that the trees gave freely of their magic wood to make cradles for the new babies.
She wrote a whole book, and I could never do that… and I think with a little better editing, and a little more time dedicated to building the story, vs just having things happen out of nowhere, and resolved quickly and easily, this story could have been a lot better.
I’m not sure that it was supposed to be funny, but it really was. I was very entertained the entire way through, and it definitely kept me turning the pages… I remember saying, “this is like a dumpster fire… it’s kind of horrible, but you can’t turn away.” Which in a way can come across as harsh… but I think any book that captivates you and draws you in, is a really good book. I think what entertained me the most was how bizarre it was. The situations that happened were just so out there, and that was really fun. It was also really fun to read it with a friend and talk about it.
So… idk… ⭐️⭐️⭐️… because for a debut novel, in a genre I don’t really enjoy…. It was a good read… I think with her next book, with a little more story building and better editing, Tanya will just get better and better. Would I recommend? Definitely… but maybe not for the reasons I would usually recommend a book…and more because I think its quite entertaining.
Buckle up for a magical, utopian galactic ride that manages super spicy, extra romantic, and extremely sweet all at once.
About the Book Life has its hard knocks but after aging out of the foster system Kayla and Brooke are finding adulting brutal.
Will Kayla’s protective spirit and Brooke’s faith be enough to save not only themselves but the people of Harmony’s world or will they be destroyed alongside them?
My Thoughts The bonds built in this story are a big focus. The initial bond between our two main female characters, Kayla and Brooke, is strong, forged in the brutal fires of the foster care system. Both have trauma surrounding their childhood and experiences in the system, especially since they have psychic powers, making them targets for bullying. Kayla has it especially bad because she is telepathic and can feel others thoughts or intentions and it makes it very difficult for her to be around people. When our heroines arrive on another planet, they form instant love bonds with “true love mates.” While this isn’t a trope I’m a big fan of, the author at least made it make sense in the context, so it was something I found cute and believable in this world. I also appreciated that both women resisted and made jokes about it the whole time.
I really appreciated the world building in this story. Fantasy stories always require a lot of heavy lifting in world building, and the author delivered. She built a beautifully complex world with a complicated and tragic backstory. I also appreciated that because the girls were no-nonsense Earth girls barely out of high school that their language was very different from that of their other-worldly counterparts. The interactions and the differences were clear and made for some humorous banter.
I enjoyed the building of family bonds and the author’s work to show the various family and community building. While the story line, like so many fantasy story lines, definitely required a great deal of suspension of disbelief, the sense of community and comradeship was beautiful and believable. I enjoyed the various characters. Honestly, if Hallmark did paranormal stories, the whole thing had a sweet, wholesome feel to it, except that the love scenes had an extremely spicy level to them. I also really appreciated that the story included diverse relationship representation, showing a world accepting of gay and polyamorous relationships.
Who’s it For
Those who prefer sweet, but very spicy paranormal romances, filled with action and adventure will love this story.
Content Warning: I always appreciate when the author includes their own content warning, which this author does. She notes that the story is for adults only – which is absolutely true because it is extremely spicy. Other content warnings include violence, childbirth, blood, kidnapping, childhood trauma, gore, graphic sex, abusive relationships, and religious iconography.
**Was given an ARC by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review**
I had to push myself to finish this book because there were so many things wrong with it. First of all there's the basic editing, like doing a spell check. I know this book is an ARC, so errors are expected, but not like this. Its like the author didn't even bother to read her copy before publishing it. Secondly, the author didn't keep track of her characters names, they were often wrong in reference and completely changed the story even more. But last, the story went from 0-1000 by chapter 2. This book wasn't for me.
Two former foster girls with both had empathic and psychic abilities all of the sudden end up on another planet when they were camping in the woods. The cave they explored ended up being a portal to a planet called Harmony. Now both girls are responsible for bringing back true mates for all species of the planet.
This book was such a great read. I loved how it just started with a bang and it only got better. Kayla and Brooke had special gifts and they could read each other and when the other is in danger. They couldn't get it together on Earth and when they set off on a hike they end up in another world that isn't Earth and have to figure out what's happening and have to save this new planet from an evil vampire I mean so much more is involved in this but I don't want to give anything away!! !!! mean the action the steamy scenes was so good. I loved it all!!! The writing was so descriptive and legit felt I was in this story and journey with Kayla and Brooke !!! If you like fantasy and steamy romance this is the book for you !!! Definitely recommend this !! Go get this everyone !! I can't wait to check out more from this author !!!
There are times when I wish I could give half stars, and this is one of them. For me it wasn’t quite up to a four star, but it definitely wasn’t as low as a three star either, so I have rounded it up to four. I really liked the presence of multiple strong female lead characters and I thought that the author developed them well. The good use of descriptive language meant that I had clear images in my mind of what the Goddess Harmony’s planet looked like. I felt that there was more to the story than the cover implied. A half naked man on the cover doesn’t immediately scream ‘paranormal romance’ to me, not even ‘spicy paranormal romance’ so I’m not so keen on that. Overall it was a good read, and an easy enough read, but I feel that, for me, some potential was missed. My thanks to the author and to LoveBooksTours for gifting me this book. I am leaving this review of my own volition.
I enjoyed this book! It had a captivating story with dragons and other fantastic magical elements. The world-building was easy to follow, and I was hooked. The strong sister bond between Kayla and Brooke was remarkable. They were sent to another planet to defeat an evil vampire and restore harmony. I loved the power of sisterhood and the magic they shared. The characters were well-developed, especially the strong female leads. The descriptive language painted vivid pictures in my mind. However, the cover didn't match the genre, and the pacing sometimes felt off. Overall, it was a good read with potential for improvement.
When I first saw this book with its stunning cover, I was expecting a spicy romance with some paranormal/ fantasy elements thrown in ... and I did get that but it was so much better than I expected. The fantasy element was so much better than I thought it was going to be.
It was well written with a fantastic storyline, a good amount of world building that was just enough that I felt comfortable with the world but not so much that I was confused by everything - for me this is the perfect amount of world building. The characters were really well developed and I became invested in them really quickly.
I really enjoyed it and will definitely be reading more by this author
I received the PR Box with physical book. This is a debut book for the author and it shows. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing as this book isn’t terrible. My biggest criticism is work on pacing…there are parts that feel rushed then parts that drag on longer than necessary. I love the aspect of fated mates and ending up in another dimension/world but a lot of it seemed forced and unrealistic. There is a lot that can be built on and made better for future books or even a rewrite of this but as is it isn’t a 4 or 5 for me but I definitely see the potential.
Over all I liked the story. The world building was there and and I enjoyed the world and characters. I do wish there was more conflict and battles with the evil vampire. This book has a lot of insta-love so if you don’t like that troupe then this book isn’t for you. For this being the authors first book I quite enjoyed it. Read it in under 24hours and wished it was longer. Would recommend.
The purple cover is gorgeous and I was easily intrigued by the blurb. The story was unique, however, I struggled to connect with the characters and writing style. While this read wasn’t for me, I do feel that this story may be great for other readers. As always, please check trigger warnings prior to picking up this read.
I love this book. It has so many interesting twists and turns. I enjoy the relationship between the two foster sisters. You don’t get a lot of platonic relationships in romance novels that are strong and important.
Well, this was totally not really what I had expected from this book. You know that I tend to go off the covers rather than reading the blurb (to get more surprises) and wow, I did with this one!
I expected from the cover that this would be your typical paranormal romance with the usual storyline and lots of spice.
What I got was a really well worked fantasy and a story about found family and loyalty. With the odd but of spice thrown in of course!
I loved the writing style - there was some world building - but not so much that it felt like it bogged me down. The descriptions of the planet and its people were so atmospheric that I really felt as though I was there with our main characters.
Kayla and Brooke made for the perfect heroines. I loved them both and even more, their relationship with each other. Complete devotion and loyalty, working together to bring harmony back to the planet and its people. I really felt sister vibes from them.
Having been pleasantly surprised by this, I really hope that there will be more books in this series and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
I like the approach the author tries to create. A world where everyone relies on each other to raise a family. However, I found quite a few errors in terms of grammar, consistency in events and others. The theme of fated mates and insta love, could have been better developed, perhaps create a character/relationship development in which explains or elaborates on the interaction between the couple or why they got there in the first place.
At times, I couldn't understand how they solved the problem so quickly in the scenes with the villain. They started in one place, and ended up in another. Or in certain scenes they were conscious, then unconscious, and miraculously reappeared conscious to continue the battle.
I thank Tanya for allowing me to be part of her team of arc readers. I feel she has quite a bit of potential and just having her book finished and published is a huge step. I wish her the best and may she continue to work on her writing until she achieves a perfectly finished book.
This book is full of the paranormal. I love the way the characters developed through out the story. It was full of love and hope. The plot was well written and fast paced. Would highly recommend to lovers of paranormal romance.
The characters are relatable and real. The author does an amazing job of creating a visual of what is going on. Deep thought went into how people would really react to these situations and the characters emotions are described perfectly. The twist and turns left me constantly wanting more. I’ve never read a book with such inclusivity and such a welcoming utopia. A beautiful story on friendship, adventure, love, and family. Showing that you don’t have to be blood to be family.
