Eirenae’s life experiences have made her silent. At first, it was a conscious decision. Silence means safety. Eventually, it just is.
Her father, in his attempt to silence her, uprooted her and brought her to a remote and sparsely populated region. The people—or in her case, her fellow students, despite her reticence, silence, and surprise—are nice and kind. Yet, kindness sometimes can only answer for so much.
Kota’s pack had ruled to not associate with rogues. Yet his friends have not only associated with one but have been kind and friendly with one. But she was neither a rogue nor a wolf who belonged to a pack.
She could belong to their pack. She could be his, if she allowed him to be.
To be, she must first accept her heritage, her power, and her place in the hierarchy. To be, she might need to break her silence.
Obviously I'm biased, lol. Because I wrote the book. But this is my first book that has been rewritten four or five times over. I am aware it is not the greatest thing you'll ever read. I am aware that even after months of editing it is still not perfect. But I wrote the plot when I was fifteen or so, and I am so so proud of how far it has come since then. Nothing is ever perfect, even my favorite books I've read a thousand times over have flaws. I know my book has flaws, but I am just overjoyed to be able to call myself a published author, an accomplishment I have made for myself before I am even twenty years old. I am proud to have written something for others to enjoy, or to hate on, both of which are inevitable outcomes. But, its mine, and I'm proud of how Eirenae's story came out to be. Please be nice :)
This heroine should have had me sitting with my Kleenex bawling my eyes out, yet the story is missing something. I can't say I've ever had my ribs broken. But I think logically, you don't decide to go for a fun run right back to your abuser because a stranger said hello.
The heroine was beat up everyday to the point of passing out and broken bones and such but never thought to escape.... Ever?? That's probably what I didn't like about this book the defeatist attitude and overall character of the heroine. Conditioned or not humans at their most basic strive for survival.
Even after her very reluctant rescue, yes she does kick and scream refusing, she didn't think to tell anyone who was responsible. It was pretty obvious to me that the "Alpha" at least should have put 2 and 2 together.... Lives alone with dad, has just moved here, who done it??? Ohhh I don't know a ghost. Come on now.
I love books where the fmc is basically fighting to survive another day, I love reading how she gets stronger and overcomes her past. This book was all that and more. 5 stars!!!
There's fiction and then there's this. No one reacts in a believable manner. To anything. No teachers notice her bruises, broken bones, scars, or starvation. Ever. Not one reports her absence, either. She misses almost 2 months of school due to a coma and nothing. No accommodations are ever made for her selective mutism. She knew next to no sign language, even though she hadn't spoken in 11 years. I made it to 50% before throwing in the towel. There's zero world building. The characters are barely fleshed out.
This would be a great book if they weren't in high-school. Like, sure let the eighteen year old rule the community! Marriage at eighteen, getting pregnant. All would be exeptable had they made the characters a bit older
Jesus h Christ this girl is lucky to be alive. Her so called father was a abusive monster. Thankfully she met Kota and his pack because they were her saving grace.
It was hard to review this book because there were some parts I loved and some parts I didn't. I went back and forth a lot throughout the book, trying to decide if I was gonna finish it. And in the end I did.
One thing that was just... hard to accept? Was that all these kids were in high school. It isn't very often that I read a book that the characters are that young because it's makes me cringe. And this is one of those times. It's just too unbelievable that they act that way and are only 17-18. I know they literally turn into wolves but... yeah it just makes the book less enjoyable when you roll your eyes and are saying "yeah right..."
One of the biggest issues with the book for me was that SOMEHOW someway, her new friends didn't know she was being abused? Like she was coming in with pretty obvious injuries, and they saw these injuries and when she finally tells them her father did it they are like "WHAT?!" like.... how did you think she broke her wrist and had a black eye and LITERAL hand prints around her neck? I literally had to put the book down for a minute and gather myself.
When everything came to a climax, everything was a let down.
**Spoilers**
Her gift is never fully explained and it barely even helpful. She is literally gazing into her mates eyes in the middle of a battle that ultimately leads to him getting shot... like duh? And then the ALPHA of the pack walks away in the middle of a battle? And this girl is willing to let her tormenter go meanwhile there are people from her pack literally lying on the ground dead? The alpha left, she needed to be strong and take care of the threat and instead lets the HUNTERS go? They are literally hunters.... you don't think they will come back? Also the alphas mom wanting to literally commit suicide was just like... unnecessary?
Also her mother was just... so horrible? Like she is supposed to be the leader of all the wolves and is throwing her daughter that has been tortured for years against the wall? Where is the maternal instinct? She is just as bad as the "father."
Warning! I’m slightly biased because this is my best friend. I’m so proud of her working to become an author!! But I still rated this what I would have normally rated this!
I actually really enjoyed the book! I typically don’t read this genre nor a werewolf type story. Teyah has been bugging me for years to just give it a chance. Finally, I caved, clearly. I really like the characters and how I felt connected to Eirenae’s story.
That being said there are some logistical issues with the story. Like legally she wouldn’t have been able to disappear from school so long or that she stayed with her abuser like she did. (Though some people truly do go back to their abuser how she did, so not necessarily unrealistic.) But that being said Teyah originally started this as a Wattpad story at a young age. I’m not going to fault her for not tying those in.
And to the grammatical errors in this book. Honestly it’s not her fault for it being slightly messed up. Her editor didn’t do great at catching this at all. She should definitely let me read and edit her transcripts instead. (See how I did that. ;). Now I’ll get all the books early.)
Needless to say, Teyah the book was phenomenal and you have me hooked on new genre! Love you!!
While I did make it to 81%, I finally stopped during the attack. The bad guys get pass Kota. The mom tries to end herself. Everything happens in one day. Her boring gift. Her hair not meaning anything. She doesn’t want to kill him, but will “later” send someone else to? Her pack is lying dead and she “hopes” he won’t come back???
Shes weak and everything is so *instant*. Instant love. Instant best friend. Instant being okay with everything. Instantly making sense she’s a werewolf. Instantly being healed. Instant powers.
What is with the author already making her think of having kids, not even a few weeks after turning 18. That’s so gross. She’s not even kissed Kota and she was talking babies!!!! Ewwwwwwwwww!!!!! And she wanted her friends to be pregnant and they may not have even been 18!!!! Ewwwww!!!!
Eirenae has been through hell — her father’s abuse left her literally mute, and now she’s just trying to survive in silence. But when she stumbles into wolf-pack territory, she meets Kota… and suddenly the quiet girl’s world gets very loud. 👀
Kota is that protective, patient alpha who makes you go, “ugh, why can’t boys like this exist in real life?” And Eirenae? Watching her transform from broken and silent to strong and self-assured had me cheering. 📣
Is it perfect? Nah — some pacing quirks and high-school-ish drama pop up. But the heart? 100% there.
Writing was very juvenile. Felt like a novella lots of drama but pulled you in. The on page DV scenes were graphic but helped add depth to the story. Without them it would have been bad. I appreciated FMC was weary and resorted to her previous behaviors not just changing. That also made things feel real. Overall i enjoyed this book but the climax was very low. All the drama is in the beginning for the DV. after that the book goes downhill.
I give this book a 3.5. The book has a lot of potential, with likable and intriguing characters that immediately draw the reader in. However, the character development and overall storytelling feel underdeveloped. The plot moves at such a rapid pace that it misses opportunities to delve deeper into the characters' motivations and emotional arcs. As a result, the story lacks the depth and richness it could have achieved with more detailed world-building and narrative complexity.
I like that this book covered abuse so well it was realistic and compelling and gut wrenching! It was a great quick read.
Some complaints - I didn’t really feel anything regarding live from the two main characters. - nothing redeemable about the mother - likes of time jumps - the ended was to wrapped up… I was left wanting
Over all it was a good book kind of forgettable but still good for a fast read (about 3-4hrs)
Omg! Every! Sentence! Ends! With! So! Much! Excitement! I've read Wattpad books my whole life and I've never been so icked-out of finishing a book. Every sentence from every character, every thought from the voiceless fmc, every DESCRIPTION ends with an exclamation point. Why is everything and everyone so excited? Maybe if I was 13 again I could finish it and have better words for this work, but I could barely finish the first 100 words.
This book needs MAJOR trigger warnings! The child abuse is so graphic it is frightening. I could hardly wait until someone rescued her. I was angry that she was so weak but also understood that she had been mentally weakened for so long, she didn’t know any other way. She finally finds her voice when she has enough strength to confront her first weak link. SHAME!
I was an ok book. I think it would have been better if you got Kota pov and the epilogue was good wish she wrote the it a little better the reads will understand what I’m saying I don’t want to say because I don’t want to give anything away. They is no spice but you get the chemistry. I like book with a little spice 🔥
It was an enjoyable story, fairly simply with a nice HEA. But it could have used some additional editing. The sentence structure in places made the word flow a bit choppy.
This is one of the best werewolf books that I have read in a long time I highly recommend this book it keeps you on your toes, although there are some dark chapters, most of it is light definitely worth the read!!!
This was such a good story line. I loved the character build and the development between all the major characters was so good. It caught me early and held me until the very end. Great read!
This story started out as a tear jerker and ended very good. I’m glad the MFC with her new friends and mate was able to overcome her terrible home life and fears. Great story!
This book was pretty good. The ending was cute and I liked the characters. I do wish the Mc was stronger but she was pretty good. I enjoyed it and how the ending everything was good. Overall good book but not the best. About average. 3/5
An enjoyable and interesting story, although I didn't notice any trigger warnings. You know there are some characters you love, some you get surprised by and a couple that you hate.
This was a great read. It’s tragic. Has triggers but man was it good. It is fast paced with instalove so if that’s not your jam, then you should pass. The world building was great.
