Thank you NetGalley and Wanda E. Brunstetter for the ARC copy of Amish Friends Life Hacks. It was a delightful book filled with tips and tricks that have been passed down for generations. There were a few seasoning recipes at the end.

I really enjoyed the entry for making fried eggs. That person had a good sense of humor. The author gave credit to those who submitted tips for the book.

There is a really neat section in the back of the book that teaches you natural food coloring. I loved seeing their creative ideas.

Amish Friends
Life Hacks
Hundreds of Tips for Cooking, Cleaning, Gardening, Wellness and More
Wanda E Brunstetter’s
Author Wands Brunstetter introduces her latest book, Amish Friends, with a bit of history as well as introspection on the Amish people. ”New Amish communities continue to appear. There are over 370,000 in the United States. The Amish believe in the authority of the scriptures and adhere to the regulation of their Ordnung, They live a simple, plain way of life. Although their way of life may make it appear they are frozen in time, they do continually adapt to changes in society, including adopting some new technologies. The Amish show a lot of wisdom in the manner they raise their children, live their Christian life and minister to others.”
This book is full of life hacks. A life hack is any trick, shortcut, skill, or novelty method that increases productivity and efficiency, in all walks of life. The first chapter deals with the kitchen. There are hints for cooking various foods and vegetables to using your ironing board for extra counter space. If you over salt a dish add a touch of vinegar it will take away some of the salty taste without having a vinegary taste. There are delightful hacks in the whole book. Tips for Hosting Guests, Tips for Transporting Food, and Tips for Picnics. There are several basic recipes including homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk, homemade mustard, homemade Vinegar and homemade Cheese Sauce.
There are bits of wisdom sprinkled throughout this book. “No person can do Everything but each one can do something.” “Don’t think God for what you think is good; ask Him for what He thinks is good for you.” A smile is a very powerful weapon; you can even break ice with it.” “I you have not often felt the joy of doing a kindly act you have neglected much, mostly yourself.”
I met MS Brunstetter at a book fair several years ago. While I am sure she does not remember me I will never forget her. As a fan of her books, I was giddy with excitement of actually having a chance to chat with a famous author. She was kind and quickly put me at ease. It is a pleasure and an honor to review her books.
Thank you to Netgalley for a review copy of Wanda E. Brunstetter’s Amish Friends Life Hacks. As always my reviews are my unbiased opinions.

Inspirational, informative and educational, Wanda E. Brunstetter’s amazing reference book of simple tips to make life easier, “Amish Friends Life Hacks—Hundreds of Tips for Cooking, Cleaning, Gardening, Wellness, and More,” is a fantastic resource for everyone because the Amish Friends way of life is to be helpful and useful from a young age, so children, young adults and elders can all benefit from the advice given in this book. Filled with stunning full-color photography throughout, Amish Life Hacks is packed with useful tips for every aspect of daily life.

Brunstetter also provides a wonderful Amish and Mennonite History at the beginning of the guide for those of us unfamiliar with the Congregations’ origins, culture, traditions and family values. Per the book, both Groups are directly descended from the Swiss and/or Dutch Anabaptists who formed in the 1500s as part of the Protestant Reformation, which I find fascinating because I grew-up Southern Baptist, and we hold some similarities with the Anabaptists—which I was completely unfamiliar.

Now, back to the Life Hacks book. In the ‘Advice from the Kitchen’ section, there are so many great suggestions that I’m definitely going to try. One that I really love is using muffin tins for lots more than baking sweet treats—like making single portions of dressing, individual stuffed peppers, baked apples, etc.

Another cool hack is putting bay leaves in the packaging with your refrigerated cheese. Who knew that bay leaves would prevent it from molding without affecting the flavor? The Amish—that’s who!! Fascinating!

Among other interesting and very useful tips in the book is a hack for separating eggs by using a funnel. The slippery whites slide down the funnel neck, while the yolks stay separate in the funnel cup.

These are just a couple of the practical tricks to make life easier that Wanda E. Brunstetter lists in this comprehensive guide to living a blessedly happy and fulfilling lifestyle.

JoyReaderGirl1 graciously thanks NetGalley, Wanda E. Brunstetter, and Barbour Publishing for this advanced reader’s copy (ARC) for review.

WOW!! Daily living tips!! Where was this book when I first got married? So many daily living tips. All those setting up a household for the first time need a copy of this very handy book. What should you do so that you don't cry over onions??--keep onions in refrigerator, peel and cut under running water and don't cut off "bloom" end of the onion where fumes are stored. Never canned before, all kinds of great tips. What would I do if I picked berries and my hands are stained? Wash them with a little bottled lemon juice.🍋 Removes stains in a jiffy. How does one get grass stains out of clothes -- use vinegar. There are many home health remedies that our grandparents and their grandparents used. I was just amazed by all the practical tips! As many are gardening for the first time, many tips are given as to when to plant, what to do with bugs and why don't my African violets look like my mother's? There are tips for farm animals and tips for making suet for the birds. Crafting and sewing tips are included. One could go on and on with all kinds of tips. I highly recommend that you purchase this book for yourself, as a shower present, for a first time college student going on their own and friends as a gift to name a few. Hope you have enjoyed and learned many great things as you read this very informative book on life hacks.

Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends Life Hacks is a cookbook with basic Amish/country style housekeeping/cleaning/gardening tips with a simple style. Released 1st Nov 2023 from Barbour Books, it's 223 pages and is available in spiral bound format.

The eARC provided for review is a 58 page sample with tips arranged for the kitchen, canning & preserving, home cleaning, laundry & stain removal, home health, gardening, livestock & wildlife, crafting, and miscellaneous/uncategorized.

The photography is appealing and warm and emphasizes the comfort and simplicity of simple living with good friends and family. The typography and layout are homey, with many of the tips presented in highlighted text bars.

As with the other volumes from this author, the contributors names are listed throughout. There are very few convenience or premade ingredients here (as could be expected from the title). Almost everything is from scratch.

Five stars. (With the assumption that the rest of the recipes/tips and book quality are to the same standard as the sample provided).

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Wanda E. Brunstetter’s Amish Friends Life Hacks is a great gift choice in so many situations – for the newly married; for the new homeowner; for the grown child moving out on their own; and for those who simply love to absorb all kinds of useful facts! I fall into that last category, and love the fact that I can open the book to any section (and there are several: cooking, housecleaning, gardening, and health, to name a few) and immediately read quick tips that I find myself referring back to and sharing with family, friends, and co-workers. Interspersed between all this useful knowledge are beautiful photographs containing inspirational sayings and biblical words of wisdom – perfectly placed words of encouragement just when you seem to need them the most! If you’re looking for a compilation of useful everyday tips to make your life easier, this is the book for you! If you’re looking for a glimpse into the everyday life of Plain people (who were the contributors of these tips), this book provides a glimpse of easy tips from plain-living people. This is a book you will find yourself going back to time and time again.

Wanda E. Brunstetter’s Amish Friends Life Hacks is a must have book for every part of your life from the kitchen to household cleaning tips, laundry and stain removal, homemade health remedies, gardening, livestock and wildlife care tips, crafting and hobbies. There are also all kinds of great miscellaneous tips for just everyday life.

This book is great for a seasoned person and would also make a great graduation, a gift for a new teenager, wedding-shower gift for someone just starting out their household. I honestly don’t know after all of these years how I was able to get some of these things done without all the life hacks.

This is just one of the many hacks I always do when gardening: Plant marigold guardians, by planting marigolds around your cucumbers, squash, melons and vegetables it will help keep the bugs down and add a pop of color to your garden.

I highly recommend purchasing one for yourself and another or two for a friend.

Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends Life Hacks is a sample of the completed manuscript that makes you want to be first in line to buy the book! A brief history of Amish and Mennonite settlers is followed by over fifty pages of household tips beginning with kitchen and cooking tips. Did you know that all vegetables that grow underground should be cooked starting in cold water while the water for those that grow above ground should be boiling before cooking? Or that baking soda added to caramelizing onions while speed up cooking? There are baking tips and recipes (homemade cool whip!) and tips to host guests. “Hospitality is an often overlooked act of love.” This heartfelt book will make a perfect gift. That is, after you buy the first copy for yourself! 5 stars.

Wanda E. Brunstetter’s Amish Friends Life Hacks has hundreds of helpful tips on cooking, cleaning, gardening, laundry, and so much more. This book is a compilation of life hacks (shortcuts, tips, and tricks) that will make life a tad easier. There are natural remedies, a natural bleach, planting tips, natural food coloring, canning and preserving tips, baking tips, crafting tips, and pest deterrents (plus much, much more). I especially liked the section on cleaning alternatives. I am sensitive to smells (I have asthma, allergies, and fibromyalgia) and it is hard to find cleaning products without scents (too many have lavender). I enjoyed the miscellaneous tips at the end which included my favorite tip which was the secret to an amazing life. There is Amish wisdom sprinkled throughout the book. Amish Friends Life Hacks is a handy book to have around the home.

I collect all things from Wanda E. Brunstetter.  I love her fictional books but her cookbooks are fantastic.  I have made some really delicious food items that I discovered from the multiple books I own.

Her newest book is called Amish Friends Life Hacks.  There is so more handy tips and ideas to enjoy.  I love the different chapters ranging from garden ideas to making your own health items such as sore throat cures.

These are great gifts for anyone.  I love the way they are made as the pages are sturdy and can be wiped clean.  I can be messy when trying out new recipes.  Plus the book can be folded open and it stays that way.

I love all the new ideas to make my life easier and even more cost efficient.

This book has a lot of good information in it on how to make or do many things yourself instead of relying on everything being store bought. The only reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is that there were some entries that mentioned things the Amish don't live with, like cars. or this reason I don't think all the collected suggestions were from Amish people. And because there were so many contributors in this book, maybe some of the writing was very good and I misunderstood it.

Either way, while facing a crashing economy and a very uncertain future, I found much of this information helpful and reassuring that I can do for myself and my family while pinching pennies fairly easily. Some of these suggestions I am already doing.

I’ve purchased the whole Amish Friends series in hard copy ( I only WISH they were also on Kindle), and this one is a really awesome addition to the series. Lots of words of wisdom, and great tips about everything under the sun that has to do with homemaking and wellness. I especially love the recipes for self-care and cleaning products and home remedies.
