Tweens: What kids need now, before the teenage years

Rate this book
‘ A book full of wisdom, compassion and guidance that I believe will help families, schools and communities everywhere take better care of our tweens.’ Maggie Dent, bestselling parenting author and host of the ABC podcast Parental as Anything If your child is between the ages of nine and twelve, you are in the throes of the ‘ between’ years. Not quite a child and not yet a teenager, tweens embody a very specific stage of development that once understood will revolutionise the way you parent, educate and support those in your care. In Tweens, award-winning parenting expert Michelle Mitchell explains that this is the most rapid period of development since toddlerhood. Right now, before the full pressures of high school hit, you have a window of opportunity that can change the trajectory of adolescence and beyond. Using the results from her recent survey of more than 2000 parents and tweens, along with interviews with experts, Michelle compassionately guides parents through their children’ s friendship issues, mood swings, confidence crises, technology habits, sibling rivalry, body image concerns and seemingly inexplicable behaviour.

Lots of goodies in here. Skipped a couple inapplicable chapters and some stuff was clearly associated with Australia but this is a great practical book for raising tweens. Those teenage years are truly coming quick and I have two in the age range of this book!

This is a book I didn't realise I needed. Being a parent is so hard, but this has given me so much food for thought, so many conversation starters and so many ways to be able to look at what I am doing/need to do. Are there ways to be able to understand my child better, things I am doing right and things I can do differently?
At the end of the day I want to raise my 3 children to be happy, healthy, and relatively good people. I'm not going ro get every day perfect. Neither will they. But this book has given me something to set out plan of almotion in place to work together to do the best we can.

Poorly written, full of cliches and tortured mixed metaphors. Inconsistent, contradictory and sometimes dangerous advice provided, all produced through a stunning lack of self-awareness and overabundance of self-promotion. Short-sighted, narrow-minded and undeservedly overconfident.
