Estoy orando por ti

Rate this book
Cada capítulo Un pasaje Una breve explicación Una oración por tu amigo When we hear that a friend is struggling, it can be easy to say, «I'm praying for you», but harder to know what to actually pray. Through forty carefully chosen Scripture passages, Nancy Guthrie opens up the wealth of scripture to teach us how to pray for those who are hurting. She shows us how the Bible provides us with a vocabulary for prayer that enables us to ask God to achieve what he intends in and through suffering. Nancy shows us how God's purposes are revealed even in our darkest days and encourages us to pray for his will to be done in difficult situations. Each chapter A passage A short explanation A prayer for your friend

I read this (as one might expect) on behalf of a friend who is undergoing a long, no-end-in-sight suffering. This book answers a thought I've often had: what do you pray for in such a case? Only pleading repeatedly for a cessation of the trial seems insufficient, and might not be what God has planned.

Nancy Guthrie, no stranger to suffering herself, has prepared 40 wonderful short devotions with ideas from Scripture to pray for your suffering friend. Though I prayed it for my friend, I found that I prayed for myself almost as often. I learned much about suffering and about prayer and feel more equipped both to minister to friends in pain and to preach to myself.

I DID NOT LIKE the QR codes at the end of each devotion to scan so that you can send the person you're praying for a scripted text. I am not opposed to texting the person you're praying for--far from it--but texting in words not your own? The idea hits me wrong. QR codes are also irredeemably ugly, imo. That's just me. It might serve others.

I have loved using this book as a resource to help shape my prayers for those I know who are suffering (including myself). While I've technically "finished" this book, I know I will refer to it over and over again as a help to know how to Biblically pray about suffering beyond asking God to take it away. The devotionals and prayers were so encouraging and Scriptural.

A beautiful book - short but powerful chapters that can really help in guiding your prayer life for those around you who are in a period of suffering. This is one I will purchase to have on my shelf.

I love Nancy Guthrie and it pains me to rate this book a 2 star. The biblical insight is impeccable; the prayers are wise. These rate 4 and 5 stars. But the QR codes allowing messages to be sent to prayer recipients seriously detract from the personal prayers these are supposed to be.

This book is so helpful in having a more tangible way of telling someone that you're praying for them. It's more than just praying for someone going through something hard - it has provided me with specific prayers to pray for my friends in all different seasons of life.

I will definitely be using this as a prayer guide going forward, and I highly recommend it to:

1. Anyone looking to grow their prayer life through praying Scripture
2. Anyone who has said "I'm praying for you!" and not know where to go from there.

Best book to first off learn how to pray Scripture but also to pray Scripture intentionally for those suffering around you! This is THE book I recommend to anyone needing to grow in practicing prayer! Nancy’s words were the words I’d been looking for to ask for prayer in dark seasons. I restart this for anyone I hear who is suffering and honestly it is such a good template! Highly highly recommend!

This book was so helpful to someone who often finds prayers for bad times a bit repetitive. It was really useful to look at several different perspectives and ways of praying rather than just asking God to take away the hurt or difficulty. Definitely one to constantly refer back to.

What a great book when looking for meaningful messages and prayers for suffering friends or colleagues. Each reading provides a jumping off point and pre-written prayer. While I am not opposed to using them as printed, I see myself using them to shape my words and speak my personal prayers.

Cannot recommend this enough to give Scripture-rooted language for praying for someone in a season of suffering (including your own heart). An incredible resource.

A really helpful book, both to encourage a commitment and depth in praying for those who are going through difficult times, but also as a book to reflect on and pray through for ourselves.

A group of us are using this book to pray for a friend battling cancer. Each day focuses on a passage of Scripture and a prayer--helping us to pray more specifically and biblically. We have finished the 40 days and are now starting over. Highly recommend.

40 passages, 40 short (but meaningful) chapters with a prayer at the end. There is also a message you can send via QR code to the person you are praying for.
I’m not sure I will use the last option…. Though I think it is a very novel idea! I personally like to add the verse not just the reference (that’s easily done using the Bible app).
Overall this book has helped me talk specifically on how I’m praying for someone (and it’s not just that they get better, or all their problems go away).
This book goes beyond the “Sunday school answers” … it is practical and helpful for those looking to give meaningful support to those who are suffering/ hurting.

I initially gave this book 5 stars because I love Guthrie’s style and the root of the gospel in each prayer she writes, but had to go back and award it 4 stars on account of the tailor-made prayers that she includes via bar code for each chapter. This felt disingenuous to me and I would have liked to see the sample prayers without the added internet link, ready-made prayers. 🤔🤔🤔

This was amazing for both me and my friend I was praying for. Each prayer is based on a different passage in Scripture, and Nancy Guthrie offers an insightful devotional to go with each one. When your friend suffers, you feel hopeless to help, and you don't know how to pray. This gave me very specific things to pray about, and I didn't want to pray some of them. But they pushed me to grow, and my friend as well. I recently met with my friend about a month or so after I had completed the 40 days and she said in her devotional time now, in her grief, her brain can't manage to study the bible like she used to. Right now all her brain can handle is to go through my texts and pull up one of the verses and read that and pray through it. I was blessed to know it continues to serve her this way. I still just want to take away the pain. But I can never do that. All I can do is point her to Christ, and this book helps with that in a beautiful way. I did sense through the book that the author was usually thinking of someone who is suffering more in terms of a terminal illness or an otherwise potentially impending grief, less so someone who is buried in grief over losing a loved one. But it didn't matter; those particular verses could still be applied. This book is such a gift.

Learning how to pray Scripture over several of my friends was just the beginning of how I profited from this book. In addition, I was also challenged in my own spiritual walk. Having been through a dark season of suffering, I would have loved having someone pray these Scriptures over me and my family as well as send the encouraging texts to remind me of Truth daily. The QR codes that automatically type a message to send to those I was praying for were so helpful for both me and my friends. They helped me focus and remember how to pray not just in one moment of the day, but all throughout the day. My friends would message me back with gratitude and expressed much encouragement along the way.

Excellent book and wonderfully helpful resource for praying for someone going through significant suffering. Especially helpful for severe health issues. Plenty of encouragement and hope from Scripture to pass on, with short but deep entries which all end with two short, power-packed prayers to pray - Coolest feature is a QR code is above one of the prayers that can be scanned and easily sent to the person you are praying for so they can also read the prayer. This book is a game changer. I will use it often. Highly recommend.

I’m grateful for the reminder this book gives, to open the Bible and use that as a springboard to pray for others. When friends are suffering, they don’t need trite condolences. And often it’s hard to know what to say to those who are suffering. This book gives such helpful words of encouragement as you pray for friends in need. And I’ve also used it personally when going through times of suffering, to know how to cry out to God through his word. This book is a very helpful guide that I know I will return to year after year.

A wonderful book on how to pray for suffering people. This isn't a 'heal me', 'give me what I want, God' kind of prayer book. This has lovely and very different kinds of prayers than what we are used to or usually pray. This prayers get to the spiritual heart and aspect of how we should pray. This is not light and fluffy praying. Wonderful book to be used over and over.

This was sooo helpful to me! This book helped me think about the people I promise to pray for and yet never do. Guthrie also gave me encouragement through this book and her scripture she uses. If you are anything like me and have so many people you Should be praying for yet don’t really think about their problems I highly encourage you to read this as well!

This is the kind of book one keeps next to her Bible continually. Even though I’m finished with it, I will use is as a resource on how to pray for friends who are suffering as well as for myself. Very, very helpful!

A friend just finished going through this book alongside me and it was a helpful tool for connecting us in the context of truth and right encouragement. A good balance of the common challenges faced in suffering, appropriate emotions of suffering, and reflections of the right truth about suffering.

I bought this book specifically to pray for someone I love who is going through a hard season. Both the short devotionals and the prayers for each day are based on Scripture. The book blessed me at least as much as it did the person I am praying for.

Highly recommend.
