Whew, another book in the series and another mystery solved!

In this new addition, Sylvia is actually asked for help for once, as her cousin, Michael, is being accused of a murder that he didn't commit. So, Sylvia, with two successes under her belt, must help to clear his name, yes?

Well, with Miles, whom she is still sure/unsure whether to trust yet (and no light cast yet on his story), it may just be possible!

In terms of this story, I will admit being more engaged and getting through it faster, but at the same time, the mystery element itself is still lacking, and I was able to figure out who the guilty person was very early on in the story. Also, the ending felt very quick to me, with a fast climax and, though technically yet another "cliffhanger" into Miles's story yet again, I felt like a thing or two could have still been cleared up. (Like, for instance, how Sylvia and Miles take on personas over at the racetrack to get in good with the patrons, and while at one point they consider being honest to see if they've made genuine friendships, those characters are just sort of dropped after they outlive their usefulness, I guess.) If the ending could just have been more conclusive and tied up more of the loose ends rather than leaving them open to interpretation, I think I would have liked this story slightly more than the first two, as I am more engaged with the characters now.

Better hopes for the next book in the series, though! Onward we goooooo!

If the speed at which I am tearing through these is any indicator, you should just go ahead and read this series.

Sylvia is doing a bang up job on these investigations, without doing too much to out herself in harm’s way. Miles is with her, almost, every step of the way and they are being set up very nicely for a cute romance. Miles’ story is seeming to be like an onion, layered. Though I will continue reading regardless, I do hope some of those layers start getting peeled back in book four.

I enjoyed this book. The characters are quite interesting, and Sylvia is a very intelligent woman who sees far more than most people think. The plot is straightforward, and the premise is finding out who killed her cousin's bookie and why. The answers were both surprising and embarrassing for the cousin. I do recommend this book.

What danger does Sylvia put herself in when she hides a man being sought by police for murder? Can she and Miles discover the true murderer before the police—or one of the family—find the hidden man?

The story is entertaining, and the series arc also pulls in the reader.

Sylvia and Miles step into the harsh world of horse racing and gambling as they try and solve a new murder case that involves a close relative of Sylvias.
I'm loving the slow relationship that is building between Sylvia and Miles even though the mysterys behind the butter seems to be getting more and more deadly in each book, what is he hiding and who is he?
Im personally getting British agent vibes from him 😁
Been loving this series so far and can't wait to read more!
