Catching Feelings

Rate this book
I, Cassidy Ann Putnam, have a crush.
On Elias Amir Carmichael the Third.
The horror.

It started with a bet, and after almost four years of edging herself with hatred, Cassidy can’t help but feel attracted to Elias. And that is a problem. No one has ever matched her so well. No one has ever challenged her in a way that engages every part of herself. No one gets her blood as hot as he does when he volleys every insult she throws at him right back at her.
She hates him as much as she wants him.

Cassidy has sunk her claws into me so deeply that I don’t know how to get rid of her.
Or if I even want to.

As much as Elias can’t stand Cassidy, he respects her. She’s smart and driven, and she’s a formidable enemy as his main competition in Stanford’s engineering program. It’s too bad he’s wanted her longer than she’s hated him.
Their rivalry has always been a challenge they rise to. But within every insufferable exchange, riding close to that line of hate, is their attraction to one another, driving them both insane.
But what would happen if they gave in to the temptation? Would the unexpected, something neither ever considered, surprise them in the end?

Thank you to KM Galvin for providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book I've read by Galvin and it's another 5 star read for me. I don't know what she puts into these books but whatever it is just hits me RIGHT IN THE GUT and then I thank her for it later LOL. I binged this book in one day and I can't remember the last time I finished a book in one day that wasn't a novella. Catching Feelings follows Cassidy (best friend to Killian and Glory, who you meet in Hard Feelings) but this time she gets her HEA. With her academic rival: Elias Amir Carmichael THE THIRD.

Cassidy is such a powerhouse. She's a woman in STEM and she knows what she wants and she goes for it, even if her friends and family don't understand. She doesn't take shit from anybody and the way she talks back to some of the immature boys gave me life. But Elias was a pleasant surprise! He was sweet and soft and kind but also possessive and that man is D I R T Y. Whew. But he's also smart and he matches Cassidy perfectly. When they finally got together, the way they each had to learn and grow in order to keep their relationship healthy was perfection. I'm a big fan of 3rd act break-ups (because I love the drama), and although this book DOES NOT have one, it was still sososo good.

Please do yourselves a favor and read KM Galvin. And then we can make signs asking for a Tanner book. (There are no plans for one... yet.... LOL)

While it’s been quite a while since I’ve been in college, I have a definite soft spot for new adult romances set there. The mix of freedom, academic pressure and an unlimited future juxtaposed with romance is just *chef’s kiss.* So when I saw the adorable cover and realized this was a rivals to lovers story? Heck yeah! While this is the second in a series, I read it as a standalone without any problems.

Cassidy has hated Elias’s guts ever since a group of friends bet that he could get her to dance with him (he couldn’t). Sure, objectively he’s cute but he’s also the son of a famous tech company founder, someone who’s probably had everything he’s ever wanted handed to him. Cassidy, on the other hand, knows that she’ll have to work hard to reach her goals which is even more reason to keep her mind off any kind of relationships other than the very casual kind. Things come to a head senior year with a contest for a lucrative internship position at Elias’s dad’s company – an internship that will fit in perfectly with Cassidy’s plans. Her only real competition is Elias, so all she has to do is keep her eyes on the prize and beat him. Easy, right?

“I’m saying I have wanted you to be mine since the moment I saw you, and if I couldn’t have your love, I’d settle for your hate.”

As a woman in STEM, Cassidy knows she has to be tough. She’s confident, fierce and doesn’t hesitate to call out misogyny when she sees it. She’s also a meticulous planner. Get that internship, leverage it to get a job there, use their tuition reimbursement to get her master’s…. Basically her entire future is planned out, down to getting a dog at 28. She doesn’t have time for anything that’ll knock her off that path. Cassidy’s afraid of commitment, dumping any guy the moment he seems to start getting attached to her. Luckily, Elias is the guy who’s mainly in her thoughts… except it’s not because of the rivalry, but because she’s developed a very inconvenient crush on him.

Elias is pretty much the epitome of “poor rich kid.” He doesn’t have friends so much as hangers-on, his dad is emotionally distant and everyone assumes he got where he is thanks to daddy’s money. Cassidy catches his eye the moment he sees her and their years of academic rivalry only lead to him falling completely for her. Except unfortunately she still hates him.

Cassidy and Elias’s relationship starts out with plenty of reason for dislike (at least on one side) and then add the rivalry from competing over the prized internship? The emotional stakes are high and sets the stage for a good rivals to friends to lovers slow burn relationship arc.

“No one I’ve dated has successfully scrubbed him from my mind. No one gets my blood as hot as he does when he volleys every insult I throw at him right back at me. I hate him as much as I want him—thus, my villain origin story.”

The way the relationship builds is very well done. Elias, besides already being head over heels for her, truly respects Cassidy and considers her his intellectual equal. Not so much for Cassidy – after all, as the son of a famous tech company founder, of course Elias gets everything handed to him and has never had to work hard at anything, right? But through shared study tables and a lot of chai they build a friendship. And Cassidy realizes he’s not this evil cardboard cutout – contrasting her warm and supportive family with his demanding father is enough to realize he’s got problems of his own. What I really loved the most though was when things go wrong, when they hurt each other, they communicate. Sure, they may need to take some time to cool off or go lick their wounds in private, but they always end up talking it out. They have absolutely sizzling chemistry from the beginning of the book and as their verbal sparring turns into flirty banter, wooo.

“You know how I am. Once I commit, I’m one hundred percent in.”

Perhaps the best thing I can say though is that it’s engrossing. I basically sped through the book in a day because I simply had to know what would happen next between Cassidy and Elias. I’ve been in a bit of a book slump lately and finding something that really grabbed me and wouldn’t let me go was a sheer delight. Oh, and another good thing? Cassidy is 5′ 10″, tall girls represent!

Overall, a fun and very enjoyable new adult rivals to lovers romance! I will definitely be picking up the first book in this series!

I had so much fun reading this book. K.M. Galvin knocked it out of the park with this one. It's dual POV, enemies to lovers, slow burn, and he falls first. Also, this book is part of a series and interconnected, but it can be read as a standalone. I loved the storyline, and I really liked how the sweet and spice were a perfect combination and balanced out beautifully. Cassidy and Elias made me giggle. They are academic rivals, both competing for the best notes and opportunities at the Stanford engineering program. Only one problem though, Elias wants Cassidy, and she is starting to crush on him. UGH!!! Guys, just go grab a copy of this book. I promise you will love it.

dnf at 43%.

Sadly, this didn’t work for me. I expected rivals-to-lovers with two complicated and interesting characters and what I found was poorly written storyline with one-dimensional hero and irritating heroine. The hero is in love with the heroine since the beginning, which is not something I usually mind if it’s done well, however his behavior was very stupid, truly taken out of a Wattpad fanfiction. The attraction is there since the very first pages, though it is stated that she hates him - and simultaneously, she already has big feelings for him at barely 36% of the book. Ridiculous. Moreover, how she deals with this attraction is unacceptable to me - going on a dates with other people with an intend to have sex with them and forget about the hero. This is not a romance I wish to spent my time reading.

Such a cute rom-com read. Minimum spice. But the spice it had was PERFECTION.

I love a good enemies to lovers, this was it. They went from despising each other, to friends, to exploring their relationship, to love. I was obsessed with the unraveling storyline.

Cassidy is such a powerhouse, doesn’t take anyone’s crap. She knows what she wants and goes for it.

Elias, the perfect match for Cassidy, has some walls to break down, but he was sweet, soft, and possessive.

I can’t believe this is the first book I’ve read by this author, I’ll definitely be reading more.

Title: Catching Feelings
Author: K. M. Galvin
Hero/Heroine: Elias & Cassidy
Tropes: Enemies to Friends to Lovers, Academic Rivals, Women in STEM, He Falls First,

tw/cw: death of a parent (off page), mention of cancer, misogyny, dysfunctional parental relationship,

✨the good ✨

I don’t know about you but I just adore a story with healthy communication between the two main characters. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a hater of the miscommunication trope, but when two characters are at that level of maturity that they can openly discuss how they’re feeling, it hits different. And Catching Feelings definitely hit different.

Academic rivals for the whole of their whole time at college, Elias and Cassidy are both competing for an internship at a top tech company. The catch? It’s Elias’s fathers company. Cassidy, strong, smart and confident, will not give in to Elias and is determined to beat him at every turn. Which let me say, made for some incredible tension filled moments between the two.

Throughout the story I felt that both Elias and Cassidy grew as characters. Elias had closed himself off after the death of his mother and the breakdown of his relationship with his father, however Cassidy brought out a softer, more understanding side to him. And Cassidy, what an absolute firecracker she was, however she was determined not to show vulnerability, for fear it would derail her life plan. Put these two together? You have an incredibly emotional and thought provoking story that had me in its clutches right up until the very end. Loved, loved, loved it.

✨ the bad ✨

Elias’s Dad. Did someone say dickhead?

Thank you to the author and @greyspromo for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.

✨overall thoughts: loved this new adult romance, Elias and Cassidy were *chefs kiss*
✨ heat level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

First of all, thank you so much for the ARC copy, I was so excited to read this one, and lemme tell you that it didn’t disappoint me.⁣

♥ DUAL POV, Enemies to lovers, first love, slow burn, he falls first. -this is from an interconnected series but it can be read as a standalone so go stuff yer face, you’re gonna love it- ⁣

STEM romance lovers and readers who love academic rivalry, this one is definitely for us. ⁣

♥ Here we get to meet Cassidy and Elias who are academic enemies and can’t stand each other, but everything with an amount of respect that we love to see. The thing is… he wants her and she’s developing a crush on him, all while competing for the best notes and opportunities at the Standford engineering program. ⁣

I had SO much fun reading this book!!! The slow-burn romance is impeccable and the fact that there’s no 3rd act breakup made me so happy. K.M. Galvin does an amazing job presenting both characters and their motivations; they’ve got GREAT chemistry and the banter is so good. One thing that I absolutely loved about this one was the little gestures and the communication, you know me, I love when the main characters sat down and talk about what’s going on instead of just being miserable… and if it’s with a chai latte in hand way better 😉⁣

The spice was good and quite sweet actually, pretty tame and well-balanced with the story. ⁣

♥ So 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 is a fun and light read, a slow burn romance and romcom that keeps you hooked and smiling till the very end. Gosh, I loved it.⁣

𝕬𝕽𝕮 𝕽𝖊𝖛𝖎𝖊𝖜:

∆ 𝑪𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑭𝒆𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 is a standalone in an interconnected series. It is the second book in the Galway Girls series. It is enemies-to-lovers, slow burn romance with characters who are in STEM. So lovers of STEM romance, this one is for you.

∆ The start of the book and I started hating Kent so much, the way him and his friend group including Elias humiliated Cassidy was horrible. I felt bad for Cassidy, I wanted to be there for her. She is strong, fierce and sassy and confident.

∆ I love the friendship between Cassidy, Killian, Glory and Tanner. They stick with each other through thick and thin and that is the honest and best part of a friendship.

∆ I love the banter between Cass and Elias so much, omg, she tries to ignore but obviously he doesn't like that and pokes her and then she pokes back because that's what rivals do right? Right.

∆ I loved seeing Cass bond with Kaley and Elias with other kids. That was one of the best parts of the novel and I am totally in love with that. Especially the transition of slowly going from rivals to cordial rivals to friends to lovers.

∆ I got so involved in their spice, their steam, their banter, their love, that I completely forgot that I had to write down my emotions and my emotions at that point were screaming at me to get my own Elias. Oh good Lord, help me because this book is everything and and EVERYONE NEEDS to read this. The library scene was ecstatic.

∆ I LOVE THE PUTNAM FAMILY SO SO SO MUCH OMG!!! I WANNA BE IN A FAMILY LIKE THAT!!!! THEY ARE SO SUPPORTIVE AND LOVING OH GOD, I AM TEARING UP.

“No one has ever matched me so well. No one has ever challenged me in a way that engages every part of me.”

Cassidy and Elias’ enemy status started with a bet, but after four long years, Cassidy can’t help but find herself attracted to him. Elias is always ready to rise to their rivalry, but he’s wanted her for longer than she’s hated him, and their attraction is about to boil over.

I absolutely adore Cassidy’s character - she is feisty, intelligent, and confident in her own skin. Elias’ is such a vulnerable, undercover sweety who supports the theory that it’s always the quiet ones 😏. I loved the tension and banter in their rivalry. Add in all the tender, swoony moments and scorching spice and I was a goner! Catching Feelings is full of references (ie Gilmore Girls binges) that make me feel like these are my people.

Catching Feelings follows Cassidy, an engineering student at Stanford and her arch nemesis, Elias. Cassidy and Elias have a rough past due to a bet 4 years ago. Since the bet, the two have butted heads and are fighting to be number 1. What happens when the two start to see that they have more in common than they thought?
.
.
I was so excited to read this and loved every minute. I loved Cassidy in the first book and was excited to read from her POV. I love that Cassidy and Elias are both hardworking people and don’t expect the other to hold back. The two are the definition of enemies to lovers aka my favorite trope! I thought the banter was on point, as was the smut 🫣 This was a cute and light hearted read. Highly recommend!!! 🩷 P.S I loved all the Taylor Swift song mentions 😭❤️

▪︎Spiceyness: 🌶🌶🌶

This story made me feel like a love sick teenager and I didn't mean that in a negative way because I was giggling and smiling like an idiot until I reached the last page.

It has every thing I love in a romance story...
💙 academic rivals
💛 enemies to lovers
💙 new adult
💛 both nerds
💙 obsession but not in a creepy way 😉 but it makes you feel like you have millions of butterflies swarming you stomach kind of way ☺
💛 slow burn

I love the first book of the series but I feel like this top it off. Elias and Cassidy a.k.a Duchess just makes me giddy with their banter and the tension between these two is just glory.
Cassy is one hell of a girl. She is strong, very positive, and she prote ts everyone she loves.
Elias on the other hand is ONE HOT M*THER F*CKER! I don't even know how to describe this scorching, sizzling piece of nerd. He is just... wew! 🥵🔥

I can’t believe this is the first book I have read by this author !!
Catching Feelings has something for everyone and after reading Cassidy and Elia’s sweet and entertaining story I will certainly be checking out other works by Ms Galvin.
What started off as a bet almost 4 years ago has turned into a love to hate relationship for Cassidy and Elia. Cassidy may not like him but that doesn’t stop her being attracted to him…..
The feelings they share are mutual and the rivalry has been a challenge they both rise up to but what happens when deeper feelings come into play…..one click to find out.
A great read with all the feels, wonderful characters with the perfect mix of passion, love, hate and humour. I really enjoyed this entertaining read and I’m looking forward to reading more from this talented author.

Digital copy provided free via Goodreads giveaways.

This romantically tense enemies to lovers novel kept me engrossed and turning pages. Cassidy and Elias had an intense relationship of hate and passion with a lot of romance worked into their relationship, too. Spicy scenes were brief but well-written. The character development was great. Despite there being many characters, I felt like they each served a purpose and were well developed.

A couple things brought my star rating down a bit. The dual narration and time travel seemed unnecessary and only broke the flow of Cassidy's thoughts and storyline for me. Also, there were quite a few spelling and grammar errors that had me rereading sentences to make sense of them.

Overall, I enjoyed this relaxing, easy read and give it 3.5 stars and 2 chili spices.

This is Book 2 in the Galway Girls Series and my first read by this author, and I must say that I quite enjoyed the storyline and the characters. It is a rivals to lovers romance between college students, Cassidy and Elias. These likeable characters and the unique plot make for an enjoyable read. Their sizzling chemistry and strong connection are undeniable as they navigate the bumpy road to their forever after. What starts out as a bet turns into something more. It is a slow burn love story with enough drama, steam, sweetness, frustrating moments, twists and turns, and engaging secondary characters to keep the reader interested. Entertaining.

This is the second book in this incredible series, and this is Cassidy and Elias’ journey. Cassidy takes no nonsense from anyone, and she goes after what she wants, while Elias is sweet, smart, kind, and possessive, and the powerful dynamics between these two makes them formidable adversaries. This is a well written story which has undeniable chemistry, rivalry, challenges, family, friendships, tension, verbal sparring, and love, which leads to a slow burn, enemies / lovers romance, emotionally charged tale.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I love a good enemies to lovers romance. Especially if the MMC was in love/like the whole time.

The two main characters are great!! They have terrific banter, they’re both clever and witty. The MMC is rich and doesn’t have to work a day in his life but wouldn’t try less than 100% with everything he does. He works so hard to get where he is. The FMC is at college on scholarship and works as hard.

That’s what I loved about them. They are both hard workers and fighting for what they believe in.

And the spice is 💯

I need to go back and read the first one, I think that would connect some dots for me.

All in all, loved the side characters and plot. Great read!

Wow, K.M. Galvin has done it again 👏👏 I loved this book even more than Hard Feelings, which I didn't think was possible. I loved Cassidy and Elias's dynamic. How Cassidy is a strong, independent woman but is too much of a control freak. I don't want to spoil anything, so I will just say read this book. I say you have to read Hard Feelings first as Glory and Killian are constantly in this one. I hope Tanner will get his own book

I absolutely love a good enemies to lovers read and K.M. Galvin delivered once again! I couldn’t put this book down! Cassidy and Elias went from despising each other, fighting the attraction they both had, to friends, and finally caving to their feelings. At first I wasn’t sure about Cassidy, because she came off as a little too sure of herself. She just knows what she wants and goes for it. Elias is just what she needs and they are the perfect match. Catching Feelings is a great rom-com with a little spice but it’s just right.- Elizabeth

I absolutely loved this book. No surprise since I also loved book 1 in this series. K.M. Galvin can do no wrong in my eyes. Elias is just swoon worthy. I have a soft spot for those stories where he falls first. The banter and angst in this is just perfect too. I love a good frenemies to lovers. Throw in the fact that there’s a strong, smart FMC in the STEM field, such a bonus. The only thing this book didn’t have that I wanted was an epilogue!!!

Yep, this one was better written than the first. This was rivals to lovers and it was done well. There was decent banter, it wasn’t instalove and not excruciatingly slow burn either. A cute, fun, palette cleanser story.

CW: parental death, emotional abuse from parent, open door.
