Magic has returned to the world, but so has an ancient foe.
Erin Donnelly, descendant of Cu Chulainn and Champion of the Folk, searches for Nechtan—her lover cursed to live as a stag for a year and a day. Enlisting the aid of allies, Erin maintains a vigil, turning back hunters and predators who might harm Nechtan in the wilds of the magical otherworld.
But when Stangr Iron-skinned escapes his imprisonment in the River of Time, he has one thing on his mind—revenge on Nechtan. Stangr’s thirst for vengeance takes him from the Seelie courts of the otherworld to the windswept Great Plains.
Can Erin find Nechtan before Stangr tracks him down? Erin beat Giwargix the Dragon-Slayer, but can she defeat a jotunn-blooded Viking impervious to blades and bullets?
I first found this series in a short story in a "Valor" anthology, and found it interesting enough to buy the first novel. That led to the second, then to the third, fourth and now fifth. Pretty good short story! This novel completes the "Nechtan as stag" storyline and sets up new characters. A fun part of this book is taking a Viking lost in the river of time from around 800AD to present day and displaying the change in scenery and mores more realistically than so many other stories. This is excellent urban fantasy, highly recommended.
After the end of the last book I was curios about Erin and what she had been up to and this book was all Erin and her search for Nechtan. Osborne has done a really good job at introducing new characters here and there every book and this time it was a witch from Susan's coven named Alex that I really liked and a couple of new baddies that done well. I liked a lot about this book but I have to say that Liam and his side of the story is my favorite by far. I hope Erin and Liam intersect again in future books.
First, I really like this series, but I could never understand the mechanics of the folds, the doorways between worlds; how, when and by whom they could be used as well as the different types. Normally something like this is a small thing but in this case it played a very large part of the story. If not for that it would have been another star. The characters are worth reading this for, both the comfortable old ones and the new ones.
The Milesean Accords is a fun series and a different on the magic world than I've read. Weaving different pantheons and lore together, it keeps you always wondering where it will go next.
Seems to be branching out from the more traditional and popular mythos. Well thought out and written. The only thing missing is a Dragon, but perhaps that will come this weekend.
I am so glad book five maintained the level of the series, except book 2, which needs a rewrite. The introduction of the two new characters filled out what Erin lacked and their ending made the series. Nicely too the opening for a new series, smart!
This book wrsps up the series of the Milesian Accords and does so well enough. I would have liked to see I would have liked to seen more involvement for the major characters from the other books.
No, I don't mean THAT kind of stag, come on! Your sweetheart REALLY is a stag, cute, cuddly, antlers, fur, you name it... He is human too, but he is in stag form for 1 year and a day for ... well, reasons. And if you wonder why, well read the Milesian Accords books 1 to 3, it shall give you the perspective. And you being the cute, lovely, err badass dragonslayer girlfriend, don't want anything to happen to him. And so, well, you accompany him for his stag year, doe-eyed and all that.
If it were THAT simple... Course it's not. Want to know more? Read the book, you won't be disappointed.
