Title: A Captivating Introduction to the Kiki Long Mystery Series
Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
As an avid mystery reader, I'm always on the lookout for new series that can captivate me from the very first page. JB Lynn's debut novel in the Kiki Long Mystery series, [Book Title], did just that and left me eagerly awaiting the next installment.
Right from the start, Lynn introduces us to the enigmatic and relatable protagonist, Kiki Long, in a manner that kept me thoroughly engaged. Kiki's character is well-developed, and her quirks and flaws make her instantly likable. Her determination, wit, and unwavering curiosity make her the perfect amateur sleuth, and I found myself rooting for her as she delved deeper into the mysteries that unfolded throughout the story.
One of the strengths of this book is the way Lynn introduces a diverse cast of supporting characters. Each character is unique and adds depth to the story, making it feel more realistic and immersive. From Kiki's loyal best friend to the intriguing love interest, every character has their own distinctive personality and secrets that keep you guessing.
The plot itself is well-crafted, with a perfect balance of suspense, humor, and unexpected twists. Lynn's writing style is engaging, and she effortlessly weaves together clues and red herrings to keep readers on their toes. I was constantly guessing and second-guessing the outcome, which made the reading experience all the more enjoyable.
While the resolution of the mystery was satisfying, it left enough loose ends to leave me eagerly anticipating the next book in the series. Lynn has successfully created a world that is ripe with potential for future investigations, and I'm excited to see what lies ahead for Kiki Long.
If you're a fan of mystery novels with strong and relatable female protagonists, then the Kiki Long Mystery series is a must-read. JB Lynn's debut novel is a promising start to what promises to be an exciting and addictive series. I highly recommend picking up [Book Title] and immersing yourself in the thrilling world of Kiki Long.
Kiki Long has is at the Pride Falls Fair, helping her fiend, Moon, sell her baked goods at a booth and taking pictures of the fair. Moon is hoping to win the pie contest with her blueberry pie. But at he pie eating contest that follows, a man dies after eating her blueberry pie, making her a suspect! Kiki is determined to prove that the pie was tampered with and Moon is innocent. A fun bunch of friends, and a few people who are enemies with almost everyone, make this a good murder mystery to read. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series!
I have loved every book this author has written! This new series is off to a wonderful start! The characters are interesting, complex and quirky! this story was unpredictable and entertaining, kept me turning the pages as fast as possible to see what would happen next. Kiki is such a great character and I am looking forward to reading more about her! The story is witty, funny and filled with murder and mayhem! A real page turner and a must read!
Kiki has had a terrible year. Her husband went ballooning and the balloon was found crashed and there wasn't a body to go with it. The real tragedy was that her missing husband had absconded with the city funds. No-one would believe her that she knew nothing about it. As a prime suspect her life became one nightmare after another. Then the murders started. Her outdoor cat became her indoor bodyguard and things really happened.
Kiki Long is persona non grata in her small hometown of Pride Falls; her husband misappropriated town funds and then mysteriously disappeared after a hot air balloon accident. Kiki has been trying to keep her head down ever since. When her best friend desperately needs help at her bakery stall during the annual fair, Kiki attends the event, hoping to avoid trouble by staying low-key. Alas, the local affluent town bully dies during the pie-eating contest and it looks like Kiki's friend is going to be investigated for the crime. Time for Kiki and her cat Kodak to get into the detection business!
I could not believe how much mystery was packed into so few pages. More importantly, the story was complete and the characters came to life. I'm really looking forward to the next in this series.
The beginning of a new mystery is always fun. This one is especially so because it is written by JB Lynn, author the hilariously funny Hit Woman series. This is a prequel to the new series so read it to get the full picture of why Kiki is the most hated person in her small town. It is a quick read and introduces Kiki and her best friends Rachel and Moon. I’m sure they play a key role in her future adventures. She is the sheriff’s photographer so there should be lots of action. So far she doesn’t talk to animals but who knows that could change.
Coincidentally, my second novella in a row. This one introducing Kiki Long, currently eking out a living as a pet photographer.
The story starts ten months after Kiki’s husband disappeared in a hot air balloon accident. It was subsequently discovered he’d used his job as town “budget officer” to steal a substantial amount of money. His body was never found leaving Kiki to live under suspicion that she was involved.
Kiki has two wonderful girlfriends/neighbors who the author provides with as much detail as the main character.
This is a great story which was unfortunately crammed into the short pages of a novella. I would have preferred to see further development of supporting characters, both townspeople and possible murder suspects. It was a shame to waste such a good plot without having the space to build on suspects or motive.
There are many details left out or glossed over. Let’s start with no mention of any forensic accountants tracing the stolen funds. Kiki has two children away at college but they are only briefly mentioned. Perhaps the biggest loose end is Kiki’s husband has not been declared dead. Hoping these issues are answered in the next release.
Enter a new mystery series by a favorite author...discover a woman who has been drug down but refuses to stay there! Kiki has so many wonderful traits and talents. I loved how her college degree has led to so many positive things, especially solving a murder! She's a wonderful character that I am anxious to get to know better.
This prequel doesn't show the humorous writing style I expected from the author's previous books. It seemed to be a little more serious, but that's just a first read thought. Who knows what surprises are ahead in the first book of the series? I am excited to find out in July when it's published.
Well written, fast paced, full of surprises, A great start for another JB Lynn series!
I enjoyed this debut novel, its starring feline and its cast of characters plus supporters and wonder if I could continue to the next book in this series through my library. Do you provide special advice for people who depend on e-Readers for library connections? I'd like to give my current Kindle a try through my own library if that's possible!! I like the series to be honest even though I read serial mysteries voraciously!
The main character in this book is Kiki. Kiki's husband was accused of robbing almost everyone in town and since her hubby seems to have died in a hot air balloon ride. Of course his body was never found but for the past year she has been watched by the cop and everyone in town . They all think she murdered him. Now there are a series of dead bodies and her son's best friend is the one everyone thinks did it. Kiki is trying to figure out who is behind all of this but will it be too late ?
IF YOU DIDN'T ALREADY KNOW IT, NO ONE COMPLAINS ABOUT THE FAIR. JB LYNN WRITES THE MYSTERY WHODUNIT OH, SHOOT!: A KIKI LONG MYSTERY FOR MYSTERY READERS OF THE LIGHTER FAIR WHO NEVER CALL. EVERY DAY OF THE SHENANIGANS MEANS A FUNNIER TICKET TO THE YARD PARTY. IS IT YOU THAT FIGURES IT OUT, OR DOES IT MEAN ME?
Good. Pleasant. Not great, could have used more description, but still an okay read.
Two minor complaints: After announcing to Kodak that she doesn't have a litter box, Kiki should proclaim her commitment to him by investing in box and litter. And I have a feeling I won't be the only reader not comfortable with the sheriff's name.
I liked the speed that I read this story. It was easy to comprehend. This book should be good for high schoolers or adults who want a quick likable read.
I really enjoyed this book. A new author for me and I was not disappointed. The characters were all fleshed out well and could there maybe a future romance with the sheriff and Kiki. All in all this was an enjoyable book. I will be reading the next book.
What a fun book! It was easy to read and follow the characters - some authors put in so many characters that it is hard to keep up with who is who!!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and loved getting to know the characters.
A quite delightful introduction to the mystery series based around Kiki Long, a woman struggling to fit in after her husband absconded with the finances of the city. She is also a suspect in his suspected subsequent murder. I think it could, however, have been just a little longer.
I enjoyed this book very much. I had no clue who was the killer till the very end. It was well written and the characters were quite enjoyable. I look forward to reading more of her books.
Fun and engaging characters. Fast paced, with lots of plot twists and surprises. Excellent prose. I'm Looking forward to reading more from this author.
