Adeline

I’ve been chased from my home and everything I hold dear in this world.

I’ve lost my family.

I’ve died.

All for a magic that I can’t even use.

That is, until the night my heart stopped.

Now I’m back.

Not only is my heart beating, it’s pushing me into the arms of a stranger.

One who can’t seem to get enough of me one minute, then reminds me that at the end of the day, our kind are enemies.

As my magic manifests and I learn to embrace the darkness while still standing in the light, I can’t help but wonder something…

Is this animosity really just because I’m a witch?

Or has he played a hand in my torment?

William

I was ready to die the night I met her.

But fate had other ideas.

Now my wolf is trying to lead me like a blind man.

But I see it.

I know without a doubt.

But I can’t have her.

I fight not to get caught up in her presence.

Her scent.

Her smile.

For just a few moments I forget that it isn’t possible and let myself believe we live in a perfect world together.

Then I wake up and realize she’ll never be mine.

I’ve done the unthinkable.

I’ve betrayed my mate.

Ashton Abbott is an anxiety ridden hot mess most of the time. I can say that because I’m talking about myself. This is kind of therapeutic.
I write paranormal romance, dark fantasy, post-apocalyptic paranormal romance, and horror in the near future. I like to think I write on the grittier side of things. Is grittier a word? I guess this is my book so I can do whatever I want. Grittier is officially a word according to this book. Geez I’m bad at this. Ok, about me.
I am a Mom to two beautiful hellions. I have a smokin’ hot husband. I love them even though they can have an attitude sometimes. Honestly, it’s karma because so do I. How long does this thing have to be?
I enjoy reading and gaming when I have a moment to actually take a breath and chill. Epson salt baths! I play the shit out of some Minecraft.
I actually genuinely love hearing from my readers so don’t be shy! I post a ton of memes on my Facebook page and am not above getting into best meme contest so feel free to challenge me. BYYYEEEE!

So, Ingrid read this book a few years ago, back when it was called Necromancer Rising. Abbott recently re-released it with a new title; it’s possible that the text was also updated, but if so, the changes weren’t significant, because everything Ingrid wrote in her review is still true.

However, as someone who has likely read more paranormal romance than Ingrid had when she first reviewed this book, I have a few additional notes for potential readers.

1. When Ingrid said this book is dark, she wasn’t kidding. It’s not just the villains who are decapitating people. Both the hero and the heroine kill people in cold blood—and not just in battle. In fact, a central internal conflict for Adeline is what her relationship with dark magic will be.

2. This is a fated mates book, with the twist that William was not *entirely* honest with Adeline about why her powers weren’t working. So we’ve got a bit of dishonest beginnings here to spice up the fate, which was a fun twist. Also a fun twist: both William and Adeline can sense that they are uniquely attuned to each other.

3. I would also call this an age-gap romance. William is 500, give or take a century. Adeline is 21 (plus the fourteen years she was dead). While this is fairly standard in paranormal romance, Adeline’s youth and naïvité were really played up here.

4. The worldbuilding is somewhat uneven. Ingrid noted that she relied on the author to explain who actually died and who didn’t; part of that is that there seemed to be inconsistencies in how to kill an immortal. Some vampires die when you break their necks, and some don’t. On a bigger picture, there are a LOT of characters representing a LOT of different kinds of creatures, so there’s not really space to flesh them all out. Even creatures who appear frequently in paranormal romance—such as werewolves and vampires—don’t seem to follow standard genre formulas for how they should behave.

5. A corollary to #4: Some of the characterization is uneven. Part of this is, I think, a feature of having so many characters, but I couldn’t really get a bead on William or Adeline either.

6. With that said, the plot moves at a brisk pace and kept my attention. And some of the secondary characters were just weirdly delightful.

As a sidenote, the villain here is the Morrigan, and Abbott also wrote/is writing a trilogy all about this particular triple goddess from her/their perspective—which would be a fun companion piece to read in parallel with this story and its sequels, if you decide you like gore and antiheroes. (I reviewed the second part of that trilogy here.)

Anyways, read here for Ingrid’s original review, which covers thoughtful things like tension and pacing.

I was completely addicted to this book, from reading the synopsis, opening the first page and closing the pages when I’d finished. It’s such a gripping read, so well written and the characters are gorgeous , the chemistry of their relationship is just wonderful and watching them slowly come together, just perfect. It’s emotional I cried both tears of hurt anc laughter during this. My first book by Ashton but definitely not my last.

This is book one of the A Raedan Warrior Novel series and the main characters are Adeline and William. Adeline has never really known the full capacity of her own powers, she is a witch and necromancer, and her own grandmother prophesied she would become the Queen of the Dead. That led to her whole family being chased form their home, until eventually she was the only one left alive, the last survivor of the Montgomery Wicca line. She should have powers, but can’t access any of them. That is until she tried to take a night off from running and ended up being caught and killed! That was until some fourteen years later, when wolf shifter and Raedan warrior and supposed immortal William Flynn, was caught by a witch and was being killed, but as his blood drained into the ground beneath him, an arm clawed its way out of the ground. That was Adeline, raising from the dead, about to meet the man who was her fated mate, but who was worried she would be too powerful for him to keep under control until he got back to his alpha and pack. He allows priestess Celeste, who also owns a neutral pub, The Shrunken Head, all their kind, the mythos can mix within, to bind her powers and also mask her from their enemies. He feels awful for doing this to his mate, but has to protect his pack and friends first and foremost. His own brother Callum, was the latest of the Gheara Pack to have disappeared, as their enemies circle. The witch who tricked him, promising him news about his brother, was working on behalf of her master, Badb, one third of the Morrigan, a powerful Goddess of chaos, whom the Vromik are working for. They are seeking the location of her two sisters, Macha and Anu, to release them from their prisons and make her whole again.

When she realises that William was the one to have her powers bound, she ignores the pull she has been feeling towards him and thinks of him as her enemy, almost leaving her defenceless. Thankfully he had decided to break her binds just in time for her to use her full magic to defend herself. She joins his alpha and the vampires, as they agree to have witches on their side in the fight against the Vromik and the possible resurrection of the Morrigan, which would be a fate worse than death for the whole world. They find the site of Macha’s prison, within a tree whose roots make her relive all her worst memories, and it is protected by Draven and his water horses, having had his own mate Vanya MacFarland made prisoner for eternity by the goddess, made to drown repeatedly locked in a chest under the water, with her immortality meaning she can never die. Draven is cursed to hear her screams and only be able to visit her prison each full moon. They are beaten by the Vromik and Badb, in the battle for the first sister Macha, leaving one her fellow witches, Rhiannon, dead and the earth demon Torstan, who loved her, clearly heartbroken! Adeline has already promised a ghost Merrick, to resurrect him so he can have another chance with his loved one, now she desperately wants to do the same for Rhiannon, but Connall warns her of the price to e paid, by them and by her for going against the plans of the gods in her proposed actions. She is still learning about her powers, especially her necromancer powers and at least she has the aid of Merrick’s grimoire for some spells and knowledge about this dark side of her magic.

A price will have to be paid and it turns out to be far worse than Adeline could ever have imagined, thinking it would be her alone that pays the price! How wrong could she be. Having William step in to save her from an attack by Badb, leaves her realising that his protection of her is from love and he did what he did previously to protect those he knew and loved, but he would always put her life before his own. The hunt is on for the third sister needed to form the Morrigan, but this one comes with a twist as those with sight of the future, warning of who can stop Badb and Macha and what would happen if someone else tried to defeat them. Sacrifices will have to be made if they are to have any chance to win the battle, and William and Adeline cannot fight together, or their side will lose! All they can hope for is that the sacrifices made on their side are enough to defeat this challenge and to stop the Morrigan from rising! Fated mates do not seem to have an easy time in this book and their relationships are certainly not guaranteed, even amongst those that are deemed to be immortal. The gods and goddesses have their own ideas of how the mortals and immortals live, but woe betide anyone who tries to push magic into unknown forms and push to get something done without the approval of the gods. A harsh penalty has to be paid and the story isn’t over yet as the Vromik next take a different twist in their battle for control. Lots of ups and downs for the characters in this story and a hard fight to get through even to this point. An interesting tale with powers from angels, demons, fae, shifters, witches, nymphs and more mixed in with a battle for what is right as love pays the cost for some. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

"By The Moon We Fall" by Ashton Abbott is an enticing and captivating novel that delves into the world of the Raedan warriors. As the first book in the Raedan Warrior series, this paranormal romance introduces readers to an intriguing tale of love, magic, and forbidden desires.

The story revolves around Adeline, a witch who has lost everything and faced death, only to be brought back to life with newfound powers. She finds herself drawn to a stranger, a man who simultaneously embraces her and reminds her of their inherent enmity as enemies. As Adeline's magical abilities grow and she learns to navigate the darkness within her, she begins to question if their animosity is solely due to her being a witch or if there is more to their complicated connection.

Enter William, a conflicted and tormented wolf shifter who was prepared to meet his end before crossing paths with Adeline. Despite their undeniable attraction and shared moments of bliss, he knows they can never truly be together due to the impossible circumstances surrounding their relationship. William struggles to resist the pull of Adeline's presence, constantly battling his own desires and the consequences of his choices.

As their individual journeys intertwine, readers are taken on a rollercoaster of emotions, exploring themes of destiny, sacrifice, and the complexities of love. Ashton Abbott weaves a tale of forbidden romance that will keep readers eagerly turning the pages, yearning for a resolution to the characters' entangled lives.

"By The Moon We Fall" promises a series filled with passionate encounters, magical beings, and mythological creatures. Each book in the series features a different couple, ranging from enemies-to-lovers to second chances, while always guaranteeing a happily-ever-after. The world of the Raedans is dark, violent, and sinfully delicious, blending sensuality and action into a thrilling narrative.

Please note that this book contains graphic scenes from both a violent and sensual perspective. It is recommended for readers aged 17 and above due to its mature content.

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of the Raedan warriors, where love battles against impossible odds and desires ignite under the watchful moon. I recently had the pleasure of reading the first book of the"A Raedan Warrior Novel" series, and it was an exhilarating and enchanting journey from the start. The story revolves around the enthralling characters of Adeline and William, both of whom are imbued with unique and powerful abilities.

Adeline, a witch and necromancer, carries the weight of a prophecy that foretells her becoming the Queen of the Dead. This prophecy has caused her family to be relentlessly pursued and eventually eradicated, leaving her as the last surviving member of the Montgomery Wicca line. Her life takes a dark turn when she's caught and killed. Little did she know that her destiny was about to intertwine with that of William Flynn, a wolf shifter and Raedan warrior who is believed to be immortal.

William, in a desperate bid to survive a dire situation, unwittingly binds Adeline's powers and conceals her from their shared adversaries. This decision stems from the looming threat from their enemies, particularly the powerful goddess of chaos, Badb, and her minions. As the story unfolds, it becomes evident that Badb is working to free her sisters, Macha and Anu, with the intent of making herself whole once more.

Love and sacrifice are prevalent themes in this captivating narrative, especially within the complex dynamics of fated mates like Adeline and William. Their bond is tested, and they must navigate treacherous paths in their quest to thwart the designs of the gods and goddesses.

The story is an intricate blend of angels, demons, fae, shifters, witches, nymphs, and more, all converging in a high-stakes battle for what is right. The narrative is a rollercoaster ride, replete with ups and downs for the characters and an unwavering commitment to the pursuit of justice.

In conclusion, this is a spellbinding tale that will immerse readers in a world where the lines between magic, love, and sacrifice blur. With intricate world-building, well-developed characters, and a captivating storyline, it's a must-read for fans of paranormal romance and urban fantasy.

A Light and Magical Adventure: By The Moon We Fall

⭐⭐⭐✨ (3.5 - 4 stars)

Ashton Abbott has become one of my favorite authors, and I enjoy reading anything she writes. While By The Moon We Fall isn’t my favorite of her books, it still offers an enjoyable escape into a world filled with Goddesses, witches, shapeshifters, vampires, and werewolves.

The story has a mid-paced flow, a dual point of view, and centers around fated mates who must work on their trust and connection amidst a minor betrayal early in the book. While their connection sparks right away, it takes time for their relationship to fully develop. It’s a light read with some predictability, but that didn’t take away from the fun. The magical battles were exciting, and the side characters added humor and flair, even if there were quite a few of them!

Set in the same world as the Goddess of the Morrigan series, this book includes appearances by Badb and Macha. It also ties nicely with Called By Darkness, though you don’t need to read it to follow the story here. That said, I can’t help but wonder if reading Called By Darkness made me set my expectations a bit too high, leaving me more disappointed in this book.

The virgin FMC and age gap romance may not be for everyone, but it’s handled with sweetness, and there’s a satisfying HEA with no cliffhangers. The spice level is moderate (2-3 peppers), so nothing too over-the-top.

Now, I’m moving on to book two, which centers around two fan-favorite side characters from book one. Both books two and three are already published, and I’m excited to see how their stories unfold.

While I enjoyed the humor and light tone, something felt missing for me. The characters weren’t as deep or developed as I’ve come to expect from Abbott’s work, which made it harder to fully connect. Still, it’s a solid addition to the Raedan Warrior series, especially if you’re in the mood for a fun, magical adventure!.

Shut. The. Front. Door. How have I not read one of Ashton's books before?

I love paranormal/fantasy romance, but I've found that I have to be in the mood to read it. The stars have aligned because not only was I in the mood to read a fantasy romance novel, I stumbled upon this one. I've never read anything by Ashton Abbott before, but that's surely going to change.

By The Moon We Fall opens with a prologue that sucked me in, featuring a baddie goddess causing gory destruction and chaos... emphasis on the bad. Ashton's writing continued to pull me in with each chapter.

Adeline Montgomery, the last witch of her coven, is on the run. She is being hunted because of her power and a prophecy foretold by her grandmother. When she meets William on that fateful day, their attraction to one another is both instant and unnerving. William doesn't have a good history with witches and makes a decision that ultimately betrays Adeline. Throughout the story, Adeline and William's love becomes one for the books. The steamy scenes are delicious and well placed, but there is so much more to this story than the spice.

The world building in this novel is fantastic, and I'm honestly looking forward to spending more time in this world. One of the things I enjoyed most about Addie's world is that there is always a cost to powerful magic. The gods, and the Almighty One, believe in free will, thus ignoring most of the ongoings on Earth. Punishments, however, are meted out to immortals who use their power to tip the balance of good and evil. We watch Adeline struggle with the darkness of her powers and the pull she feels to embrace that dark side of her.

I thoroughly enjoyed the side characters and can't wait for Rhiannon's story. I need to know more about Connell. And Aisling. And Celeste. Please and thank you!

There are some minor typos, but none that took away from Ashton's writing and storytelling.

By the Moon We Fall didn’t just hook me — it claimed me.

Adeline and William’s story is the kind of messy, aching, soul-deep connection that gets under your skin and refuses to let go. Right from the start, I felt Adeline’s pain, her loneliness, her fury at a world that broke her over and over again — and somehow still expected her to survive. She’s fierce even when she feels like she's drowning, and watching her rise? It made my heart pound.

And William... gods, William. He is that perfect kind of broken — rough, loyal, tormented. The way he wants Adeline but fights it at every turn had me flipping pages like a madwoman, desperate for him to just give in. His internal battle — loving her, wanting her, but believing he can't have her — was devastating in the best way.

The chemistry between them is off-the-charts electric, but it’s the emotional depth that really shattered me. The way fate pulled them together, even when everything — their past, their pain, their species — tried to tear them apart, was nothing short of magic.

And let me tell you — Ashton Abbott’s world-building? Absolutely sinful. Dark, violent, breathtaking. The Raedans are brutal and beautiful, and every single detail made me feel like I was right there, caught between shadows and moonlight with them.

I liked this world that the author created. There was no need to read other books with this world. Because of the interesting character crossover in the story, there was this intriguing desire to want to read the other books related to those characters to learn more about there stories.

I felt that if a story was going to be set up in an alternative reality, the author should either use a date far in the future or never mention a date so that the current can always make the story feel relevant. At one point, the FMC asks how long she was dead by asking the date and was told it was 2016. It made me stop and fall out of that world wondering why the author didn't update the date when re-releasing the book. A far off future date is a relative thing in fantasy. It's a little thing.

The FMC and MMC were a little wishy-washy with their emotions going back and forth. Their internal dialogs were torturous at times. I could only imagine tense silence that happened while all this talking is going on in their heads. Awkward.

Despite all of this, it was an enjoyable book and they are just little things. Overall it was a fun read.

I read the original story for this, Necromancer Rising, but fortunately for me I have a shit memory. So I was able to read this updated version and still thoroughly enjoy it! All of the characters are interesting. There isn't one that I wouldn't want to know more about or even read their individual stories. Abbott has a very vivid way of writing that pulls you in and allows you to picture the events as they unfold. I'd give 4.5 stars only for the fact that the dirty talk really threw me off and the characters had to complete about 400 quests before the end of the book. Otherwise, no complaints!

I was mesmerized by this tremendous story. It totally consumed me in and I was hooked from the beginning until the end. I could not stop reading it.
This is my first book from this talented author and I must say that I truly appreciated this amazing written storyline. Thank you Ashton Abbott for this spellbinding plot!

Adeline and William are fascinating characters, each one of them possessing a strong, fierce, and loving side to themselves.
I loved how sometimes their vulnerability was expressed and they were the compasses for one another.
This story made me teary, made me smile and it gripped me even more with the other remarkable characters in it.
Furthermore, it's an easy read with the right amount of description scenes and packed with lots of action.

I highly recommend this book and its author to everyone in this genre. I cannot wait to keep reading this tremendous series.

We are given an enemies-to-lovers in the HEA read and introduced to witches, demons, nymphs, and dark mythological creatures and Gods.

The cover caught my attention, and the synopsis drew me in. We are given a story worth reading, that is well-written with characters that we root for. Abbott did an amazing job writing the characters, the chemistry between some is beautiful. When the action picks up you can feel the raw emotions they experience, from their sadness to their darkness. The world building is a little overwhelming. There is a lot to keep track of, and some details don't always add up but I didn't let that take away from the overall storyline or from me wanting to move on to book 2.

This is my first read from Abbott, but absolutely not my last! The imagination of her characters and development of the world around them was spectacular. The chemistry between Adeline and William is scorching 🥵, fated mates indeed! Celeste is a highly interesting character, as are all of them, but she stuck with me. And Babd, whelp, yeah. Just read it, trust me. Magic, action, romance, spice, it’s got it all. The narrative has a visceral effect that makes you feel as though you’re living through it. I was hooked from the first page! I was holding my breath, gasping, crying, and even had a few giggles throughout this book. Definitely worth the read, and the author is now one of my top tier storytellers!.

Fantasy romance - I'm here for it! And what a brilliant prologue to open the story with - I was so sucked in as we are immediately aware of imminent threat to our MCs - well Adeline first and then the beautiful William.
This is my first book by Ashton Abbott, and what I really liked about the writing was it was descriptive and highly visual, but not overdone. The emotional journey of the characters, again, not overly complicated nor simplified to an instalove scenario - it was just right. Even the spicy scenes - of which there are enough to keep you well and truly blushing - weren't OTT.
Nice work and will definitely be looking out for the next book!.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. Adeline is a witch and a necromancer who is the last if her line. She has spent most of her life on the run. She takes a break from running which cost her, her life. William is being killed by a witch and his blood spills to the ground that is what bring Adeline back after over a decade in the ground. This tells her that he is her fated mate, but he betrays her and has has her powers bound. It is very much enemies to lovers vibes. They both try to deny their bond and what that means. There is a lot going on in this book that keeps the intensity of everything going and wanting to read the book. Should be known this is the book in a series of standalone novel.

This was my first book my this author and this was a fantastic read. I was totally engrossed by it. The world building is really good and the magical system in place.

The female character is really likeable, I enjoyed reading about her coming to terms with her abilities. William is the perfect march for her and I enjoyed their push/pull and how their relationship develops. The side characters are also really well written- hopefully we get to read more about them.

If you enjoy paranormal you’ll love this.

This is a Raedan Warrior novel. This series features a different couple in the interconnected world of Raedons. This is Adeline and William’s story. This is an intense fated mates romance with witches, werewolves, gods, and more paranormal creatures. It pulled me in from beginning to end and held my attention. Well-developed story line and characters. The world building is detailed and imaginative. I really liked how the author built up the relationship between the two main characters. The chemistry between the two main characters is steamy and intense. The storyline is fast-paced and very well written, filled with magic, betrayal, danger, death, politics, intrigue, and subterfuge

Omg, what did I just read! Adeline and William were amazing in this book. This book was amazing all on its own. This book was dark. And so intriguing. This story grabbed me and wasn’t going to let go until it was finished with me.
I just discovered this author. How have I not known them sooner? This is one of my fave styles but they’ve been hidden away until now. I have loved everything I’ve read by them. And you’d better believe in going to read it all. Just amazing writing. Amazing world building. And some of the best characters.

I think i may have dnf’d this on page 3… someone give me the strength to keep reading. Theres so many adjectives I got lost in the sentences. I felt like I had to re-read each sentence to pull the actual words out. Maybe it’s just my brain but i am struggling to ready this! I skipped a little ahead to see if it got better, why are we using the word imbibe? Am I an idiot? Id really prefer not to have to google words while I’m reading.

❤️🤗Totally and incredibly fascinating!

Adeline was enjoying the concert to the fullest, relaxing to the intoxicating sound of the music.

She was the very last survivor of her lineage.

Her grandmother told her a terrible prophecy.

In the meantime, Adeline was just surviving...

÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷

I absolutely loved this incredible Fantasy romance that was totally fascinating to read.

The characters are spectacular and successful, the plot is very mysterious, the danger and twists and turns are numerous.
The couple Adeline/William is just beautiful.

Absolutely worth discovering!

PS : what a spectacular beautiful book cover...

Adeline and William a witch who has lost everything only to be brought back with new powers and a tormented wolf shifter were supposed to be enemies but they are so much more. The road to their happiness together is paved in pain, but so worth it.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The book drew me into the world from the beginning because the plot was interesting and exciting. The worldbuilding is written fantastically and vividly, so that you keep turning the pages. I loved the characters and the chemistry between Adeline and William. I can only recommend the book!.

At first I was skeptical about a different genre of books that I’m used to, but I was shocked at how drawn to the book looks. I would highly recommend this book to all my friends. Just enough spice, romance, humor, and unique personalities to make it a must-have.

I really enjoyed this book. While it was darker than I usually read the characters and the story kept me drawn in. It was a fast read with great world building and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next story!.

It's a 3 because it ends so abruptly. The story enthralled me but the ending was rushed. I'm all for a good werewolf romance but there just wasn't enough story for me. This book could have been so much more. Not sure if I'll read the other books in the series or not.
