Miya I awaken to the touch of cold metal hands and talking holograms. Paralyzed and dependent on the Others. They tell me a story… at first; I refuse to believe. A story of no return and extreme loss, but one of the voices is different. He projects anger and distrust…but his hands… even though cold and hard, are always gentle. I have come to crave the sound of his growls because I know within moments, he will hold me in his arms. When my sight returns. I was not prepared to see what he really was, but when he collapsed in front of me, his body failing. Why do I suddenly feel like this is my biggest loss yet?
Hugo I have done everything in my power to prepare a safe world for her once I'm gone. I fought my attraction, knowing I was unworthy of her trust, but I crave her like no other. Unfortunately, my mind is no longer my own, and the only way to destroy the monster who has invaded my head is death. All that matters in my end… is that she survives… because I would rather die than share what I know is MINE.

The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 🖤💙🩷💚 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏 Character development: 🙂🙁😉😋🥰 Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Dual Narration
The heroine:Miya - one day her mother comes into her bedroom and tells her they have to leave right away and are never coming back. She tells her that her dad, who works at the space research center, has gotten some codes for a pod. She tells her that aliens exist, and the earth is about to be destroyed by a world destroying storm which is coming in a few hours. Her parents have a way to get Miya off the planet where she will be safe. Her father had worked hard for his company and had been promised a pod, but some Senator’s kid is taking it at the last minute, so they are getting her on it anyway. They give her a communicator, put her in the pod and send her into space, alone.
The Hero:Hugo - Luna was his only friend and it was hard for him to hand her off to Tordan, who is a Darvarian, and used to be one of his biggest enemies. Hugo has fragmented memories of his past. Hugo, Evo and Vin, sons of Dar are attempting to save, Aimy, the medical AI that helped him and Luna escape the compound. Aimy sacrificed herself to try to kill Master Enak who had been holding Hugo and Luna. Enak had been torturing both of them and had made them into cyborgs so he could experiment on them to try to perfect his process.
The Story: Hugo finds men delivering a pod that the AI Enak had purchased, with a rare species he plans to use in order to breed so he can get a baby to put his own consciousness in and be a real person. When there is a power surge, Hugo gets shocked and feels light-headed, his organic body is rejecting the synthetics he has been installed with. Commander Dar tells Hugo that he is now in charge of the compound.
While this story is technically a standalone, it refers back to a lot of the storyline from the previous book, so I was glad I listened to that one first. The story was good, the characters were well developed, and I liked both of them, I also liked all the supporting characters and AI’s.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view and narrated in dual narration by Emily Sutton-Smith and Tor Thom. Tor Thom is one of my favorite male narrators, especially for alien and paranormal romance because he has an extremely deep, almost supernatural sounding voice that works perfectly for big, strong, muscled aliens and monsters. Emily Sutton-Smith has a pleasant-sounding voice which I also enjoyed quite a bit.
Jennifer weaves a slow burn touching romance that shows the compassion of a grumpy alien with suffering health conditions tending to a near death human after the Earth is destroyed. They both nurse each other back to health and learn to love. I definitely recommend reading the series from the beginning, there are spoilers for previous characters in this one. If you're looking for the alien smut you have to read to 91 percent before the couple consummates, but it's well worth the wait. Dive in if you're a rebel like me, or start from the beginning with book one DaR. That's my next read!
You deserved all that love and then some. Sometimes silly mistakes can change your life forever. Sometimes you can find a new life and Hugo’s case maybe he could find a new way of life.
Hugo is the seventh book in the Daverius, House of DAR series, and Hugo and Miya's story.
What a great and original read! It is heartbreaking, sad, loving, and heart-warming, with some fun moments.
I like Sci-fi tales because anything goes, and it's not weird. The world that Jennifer has created is full of modern technology, along with AIs that are more than they seem.
The story is told in multiple POV, which makes the story more immersive. There is action, a variety of aliens; some are truly evil, and others are just big, deadly teddy bears.
“I…don’t want to lose you. It sounds stupid when I say it out loud. I mean, I have only known you for a few days. And where I’m from, falling for someone this soon is unheard of. Some would say I am simply lusting after you, but I need you in here.” I pull his hand over my heart. “I have lost everything that was ever dear to me, and if I lose you, they might as well put me in the same box because my heart can’t handle losing anything else. The moment I opened my eyes only to realize I couldn’t see, I latched onto your voice. You became my safe haven. You took care of me like I was yours to cherish. I told myself that you cared for me like you would no other, that I was special. My heart grabbed onto that attention like a sponge, absorbing your every touch and kindness.” - Miya
A touching tale of romance and hardships; facing and overcoming seemingly impossible odds to be with the one your heart wants.
i have a huuuuge thing for cyborgs and was thrilled when I saw that Hugo was one and looking forward to reading his story.
Hugo was a side character in the very first book with Dar and Kira (he was the one that tried to take Kira when she ran). Even though he wa unalived in the first book, he was reanimated by Enoch (a horrible horrible scientist). I love that he was rough and mean looking but compassionate to, and protective of Luna in Tordan and Miya (his life mate). He thought hedidnt deserve love or compassion oreven hoped for it becuase of all the bad things that he had done. Miya was young but had hope becuase her parents wanted her to survive and she did through sickness and the new species and planet.
Although hugo's body was failing he wanted everything to be perfect for Miya...well he wanted her to be able to live ontheland that Dar had taken over and the demise of Enoch and have a life as close to anything she could have had on Earth after his death, Miya was determinted to be there for him and she was and i love that she put him in his place about she was with him no matter what!!!
this series get better and better and I have to warn anyone reading, this is not just all good things. The experiments are horrible, and the treatment of lesser being (per se) are as bad as slavery in American history. This book as well as this series is not for the faint of heart!!!
A slow burn, emotional romance in the House of DaR series.
Miya is a determined human woman who was sent into space by her parents to escape a catastrophic storm on Earth. She wakes up in a new world, initially paralyzed and completely dependent on others. Even though she is physically weak, she is a survivor who—even after tremendous loss—doesn't lose her kindness or her capacity to love.
Hugo has come a long way from the bad guy who tried to take Kira in book one. He regrets the kind of male he was that led him to his "death." Despite his own suffering from past experiments and his belief that he is unworthy of her, Hugo feels a strong, protective urge toward Miya. As he helps nurse Miya back to health, their shared experience of physical and emotional trauma forms a powerful bond.
Despite his failing body and the trauma they both endure, she is determined to be with him, highlighting her strength and compassion. Overall, a very sweet and emotional read that proves love can flourish even in the most challenging circumstances.
Is it love at first sight? What about love at first sound or smell or gentle touch? That's what it is for Miya. The last thing she remembers is the urgent rush and the tears of her parents, then blackness. Hugo can't remember feeling the urge to protect and nurture anyone since his only friend left and this he feels now is so much more intense! OMG this story. . .this story here! Jennifer's stories always grab you from the beginning and then you have to hold on for a WILD literary ride! Hugo and Miya are wonderful together even before they realize it for themselves. You won't believe the villains in this one and I'm just going to keep you guessing. ; ) With visits and the help of several characters from prior stories, it doesn't take from the two MC's but adds more to it.
In the latest installment, we follow Hugo, who we met in the last book. At first I thought that this book would be another tear jerker like RaZ but it wasn't. We begin with a small flash back of how Miya left earth, but we pick up right were Tordan and Luna left off. Without spoilers I can say that Miya and Hugo fall in love in a quick/slow way. They don't jump for each other, so to speak, but they do. The things that they both have to deal with would be quite overwhelming for regular old humans to deal with, but Miya takes it one day at a time, and well Hugo is an alien.
I enjoyed where this series is going and while it can be read alone I think it's best if you read them in order. There is an over lapping arc and reoccurring characters.
Understandably an evil character in the very beginning of this series gets his come upins as in death, then is brought back to life, lives in purgatory hell as a rotting cyborg long enough to earn redemption and become a member of the Dar family and get his happy ever after. Pretty good, although some bits felt rushed towards the end, the slight change in tempo and language used by Hugo in Tordans story makes it less than it could be. Very alien tempo and language, then all of a sudden, he is alien but wrapped up in a human man's vocabulary and colloquialisms, so it lost its magic touch a bit for me. But I still love this series and look forward to the next.
Miya is different from the other mates in many ways
First she is actually sent into space not abducted, she has physical issues at first, but she is not abused. Miya is also not a mate of one of the sons so she does not receive the security, funds or the prestige of the daughter in laws. Her mate Hugo is actually a rehabilitated villain from the first book. His history is a reason she is isolated from all the other humans soon after she meets them.
I love that we finally get an African American female. I just wish she wasn’t the one that had a completely different experiences from everyone else and remains isolated from them in an existence with only a few humans alive.
I don’t care how Appalachian your grammar is, you need a better editor to fix words that anyone speaking English knows are wrong. ruins≠runes haul≠hull debts≠depths rouge≠rogue (though it does put a funny visual in my mind)
You’ve published enough books to outsource a little more. Your ideas are very clever and entertaining and you would probably triple your readers if these grammatical errors were fixed.
Although it was very difficult to imagine why all the planets and satellites were seemingly aligned in the RaV book other than to make it a part of fate.
Wishing you the best for future books, but get more help!
I am so in love with this author. I beautifully written story of redemption and endurance. I am happy Hugo got his happily ever after. He sacrificed so much to help Luna from the previous book and to see his love story with Maya another earth girl was awesome. Mrs Miller is my new favorite Rockstar. I devour every book as soon as she publishes. Read them on Kindle Unlimited then pruchase the book because it's so worth that overtime I have to work to afford my reading addiction.
This is book seven and for Hugo. It’s like learning all over how to be a good person for Hugo. He is not well and his body is rejecting the robotics that the bad guy added to him. Luna had been taken and moved to the healing chamber. In a surprise find Hugo is brought a pod with a new human female inside, Miya. Hugo starts to feel protective over Miya and vows to help her healing. Miya is heartbroken to recall how she left earth and that like her parents told her, our earth was destroyed. Hugo helps Miya to accept this new world. Read On!
These books started off really well, but quickly descended into pure cringe. Not to mention the terrible grammar and many spelling mistakes. The world building was brilliant and the description of the different alien worlds, and races was very exciting. It feels like the author quickly ran out of ideas and these big, strong alien main characters just became clones of one another with a deep South vernacular. The ladies are terribly written too. Such a shame as the 1st couple held a lot of promise.
Part of a series, this book weaves in and out of several different characters. It’s mostly told in first person present, which is a little awkward at some points. The characters are ok. Both have suffered extreme physical damage, although little is mentioned about the mental/ psychological effects of what they’ve been through. I like that they get to know each other first. Both have the opportunity to act as caregiver to the other and that builds a strong bond before they start being intimate.
You don't disappoint Jennifer, every book I have read has been a mountain of emotions. I enjoyed it, I laughed at it. But the most pleasant thing is you don't forget about the other characters, they are in the book and even have their own chapter & own dilemma going own with them. You continue their story even if is not their book. So cool😎😎😎 is like a Saga🫨🫨🫠🫠🫠😁😁😁👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👏👏👏👏👏👊👊👊
OMGOODNESS….. this is such a great book of big journeys, being lost, being found, new world, new beginnings, and new friends. Every emotion out there is found in this book. Hugo’s life story could be universal in origin. But the tale is outstanding! The readers will be Intrigued then you have the sweet Miya and the story gets even better. You put them together and you have an atomic story! Yes, Big Bang Theory! Enjoy
I think so far this is my favorite book yet. This is a real redemption tale. I love the original good guys conquer the evil genius. Each of this series manages to introduce a new character while bringing in the characters from the entire series to keep the interesting tale going. These are definitely a read in order books. Otherwise it is too difficult to understand the plot. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Liked it fine but bothered by the inconsistencies between this book and DaR He didnt die the way this book says he died. Inconsistencies bother me more than missing or misspelled words and poor proof readings Other wise it wasn't bad. You still have to overlook a few things but the series is still worth the read.
I loved the 1st book in this series and the next were ok but Tordan and Lunas book was too much sci Fi horror and I had a really hard time reading it. I wasn't going to read anymore but decided to give it another shot. Glad I did because this book was very sweet after the horrors of the last one. Please stick with this instead of the mutilation and horror.
Miay and Hugo were a inter species couple. Miay escaped earth after it exploded. She was later rescued by a alien spacecraft. Hugo was especially concerned with her wellbeing and physical care . The storyline was enjoyable, interesting and incredible.
Yes, this was an unexpected pairing considering DaR has T meat 18 sons who aren’t mated. But Miya’s dramatic ejection from Earth and Hugo’s trauma that lasted 5-6 years after his “death” have changed him since he and Alina befriended each other. Each trial and tribulation leads to a lasting relationship for both.
Jennifer Julie Miller " BRAVO👏👏👏👏" I love this series. I cannot wait to learn more about Danny and Keida. There always have to be a villain, in the last couple of books the villain is Sin. Where is Sin and what is he up to next? loved Hugo's story. The AIs/ Artificial Intelligence are hilarious especially Scout and Sage. Looking forward to the next book.
Omg, these books need an editor!! All the words used incorrectly, malapropisms, and grammar errors jerk me out of the story and hurt my soul. But the characters, the story, and the themes this author writes are so beautiful. Each one I read I love more than the last!
I liked how caring fmc and mmc were with each other.
But what is with authors and making the males horny as fuck in the beginning??? For a short book I feel like there was so much added that should've been expanded on... like the seemingly ex gf.... the robot persona that took over ???
ALSO the almost rape that doesn't get acknowledged?? Unnecessary.
Jennifer, I'm waiting on the next one. These books are so good I have stop reading a book the minute I know you have a new one. Funny and crazy, these men don't know how to behave. Love them!
Miya is sent out into space by her parents when they learn earth is about to self-destruct. Hugo is in his former prison when the good AI AMI tells him to retrieve a life pod with a human female inside. A feel good story I highly endorse!
This is my favorite kind of series! Each book is it's own, complex story. Characters from other books pop in, but it isn't necessary to have read the other books. I'm looking forward to more! Especially when Keira and Danny grow up. Poor Xul!
Another fabulous book! I am so glad Hugo got his own book. I loved him in Tordan for how good he was to Luna. He deserved his story to be told. It was hinted at but finally it all came out. I really hope you read these in order. They will make so much more sense. They are all so good.
