Young Readers take part in an interactive, humorous journey of twists and turns to the end of the book with Willard the octopus, his friend Mallard ...and a swarm of B's? The Narrator asks the Reader to flip, shake, and talk to BOOK! all while our interjecting animal friends keep the Reader company all the way to... wait will the reader get there?
Willard, a friendly octopus, invites you along on his path to the end of BOOK! Well, you are actually part of the journey…
You become the creator of topsy-turvy, buzzy, jumbly route that Willard must take to get to the end. You (and Willard) are joined by Mallard, a quirky & quacky sidekick, to become a comedy trio trying to see what The End will bring.
To turn the page is a group endeavor with this humorous pair ready to help You make decisions along the way. Good luck and safe travels on your trip to the final page of BOOK!
I pre-ordered this book a month ago. While I wait for the hardcover to arrive, I was give the opportunity to read an advance copy. This may sound corny, but this book is delightful! Perfect for little kids, especially emerging readers. It is so fun and interactive. I can't wait to receive the hard copy because this book just begs for the physical interaction that will keep little kids engaged and laughing. It is a wonderful way to promote literacy. The witty explanations of the different parts of a book make this fun for adults as well. I imagine teachers would find this an excellent tool in the classroom.
When I pre-ordered this book, I had a certain little kindergarten girl in mind. Now, I will have to purchase another copy to keep for myself.
This is a funny, clever, interactive read, where the reader (child and parent perhaps) gets to go on an adventure with Willard, Mallard from the beginning to the end of The Book. Along the way you get to help Willard get out of some topsy turvey and shaky situations. Can they escape the dreaded Bee's? I imagine my grandkids, ages 4 and 9 giggling as they go through this book. Jason Hendrickson's colorful, painterly illustrations are a perfect match for his romp of a story. I'm glad I got the chance to review this book from an Advanced Copy.
BOOK! is perfect for today's kids. It invites the reader/listener into the pages of the book, which is just what kids who have been raised with technology expect. Jason Hendrickson has written BOOK! in such a way that the narrator asks for interaction from the reader. For the youngest listener, this makes BOOK! an ideal read-aloud book. They do not have to listen quietly to the story, but they can instead laugh at the shenanigans and talk back to the characters. As they participate in the action of the story, kids will undoubtedly yell, "Read it again!" as soon as BOOK! ends.
A silly, interactive book starring one octopus, some b's, a fishbowl, and a duck. Random silliness ensues, with all the well known interactive requests: shake the book, turn the book this way and that, etc. Not a big fan of the illustration style, hence the 3 stars...that and the near-overplayed "interactive book trend" that's overtaking the picture book industry. C'mon authors, kids (and their adult humans and children's librarians and elementary school teachers) want something fresh.
Book! is a fun, witty book for the whole family! Book! is interactive and fantastic for young children and young readers. It will keep you laughing through multiple re-reads as it quickly becomes your child’s new favorite.
Not only is BOOK just a well made and whimsically illustrated book, the book itself is a joy to read. It’s such a creative presentation, and so fun to play with that it promises to be a ton of fun for every reading, and your kids will want to read it again and again and again…
I absolutely love this book! So creative and colorful for a children's book. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! Get one for your kids, nieces, nephews or grandkids. It is so much fun and as an adult you will love the ability to be creative with your actions and voice if reading to a toddler.
As an adult reader I really enjoyed the funny explanations of what the cover, title page, etc. were. That was really funny and appreciated. I expected most of the book to continue that pattern. My kids enjoyed the interactive story and pictures the first time around.
It's a funny interactive book that teaches about the parts of a book. What's there not to love? Would be a good one to use to teach elementary kids about the parts of a book during a library visit or if they are writing their own books.
This is a fun book. I love how interactive it is. I can imagine young children turning this book this way and that, giggling until the end. It is so cute.
Very funny book, would be great to read with a little one and have them help do the actions (turn the book upside-down, say hello, shake the book, etc.).
This is an adorable interactive book for young children! The illustrations and humor make it a fun one to read over and over again! My granddaughter especially likes trying to shake the Bs!
Best interactive book. My kid was all ears and enjoying to the core when I read this book to her. It's not like a normal story book. It's like showing puppet shows to your kids. I like it.
