Fae Romance #1

Of Ice and Heartbreak

Rate this book
Edina

I spent my entire life thinking I was mediocre at magic, a sub-par witch whom no one expected much from, other than a good time. Until my twenty-first birthday, when I sprouted wings and pointed ears and realized I wasn’t even human. Within the course of four days, I found out that not only was I Fae, but the missing changeling princess to the Winter Court, and I’d have to leave the mortal realm and live out the rest of my immortal life in the Faerie realm. Oh, and I met my mate…and he rejected me.

Since that day, I’ve been…well, I won’t say enjoying myself, but I’ve been having fun. Mostly…. if I don’t think too hard about the pain I’m in from the shattered mating bond. Okay fine, I’ve been self-medicating and I don’t remember the last two years. But when an unexpected, political marriage proposal presents itself, I would be crazy not to use that to my advantage, right? Because I want to hurt my mate the way he hurt me…publicly and painfully.

Eldoris
The Summer Court is on the verge of war, facing a foe with a tainted form of magic that’s unpredictable and extremely hard to defeat. The only viable solution is to form an alliance with the Winter Court through marriage. As the Prince not in line for the throne, I’m the logical choice for this union, but when I approach the Winter Court Queen for her hand, she offers her daughter instead. Edina is beautiful and would be a perfect match, except I’m pretty sure she hates me.

So when she accepts my proposal, I’m a bit stunned, until she reveals her plan. No matter how well we sell a ruse, the realm won’t believe our betrothal is a love match, but that doesn’t mean we can’t pretend to fall in love. Am I willing to do that? Lie to everyone around me and convince them I’m falling for the princess? If it means saving my court…I’ll do anything

Of Ice and Heartbreak is a standalone fantasy romance with rejected mates (flashbacks), a marriage of convenience, and some fake dating. Contains violence and explicit, on-page romance. Ages 18+

Marianne A. Scott has been writing since she was a kid. When she was always singing, those stories appeared in song form, when she majored in acting, they appeared as screenplays, but novels and short stories were what she returned to when inspiration struck. Each and every story was driven by characters and love, and, most of the time, the hope that there was something fantastical about this world that us humans just haven't discovered yet.

When not writing, you can find her with her Kindle and a latte, sitting opposite her husband in their New Jersey home. In her other life, she teaches tiny humans how to sing, passing along her love of musical theater to the next generation.

Initially I was afraid that it would drag because of its length (well not so lengthy but I am used to read shorter books nowadays) but it was so captivating that I actually finished it in two days. It was easy reading but I could do without some scenes. Though you get your warnings first thing you open it so you know what you're about to read. Tbh I thought that it would be heavier due to the above-mentioned warnings but actually it's not dark.

Soo this was almost a DNF but I persevered and got it done 😂 I’m still shocked it has a 4 star rating tbh.

The story was rushed. Essentially Edina finds out that she’s actually a fae princess after living her life believing she’s a mortal witch in her own realm. She’s initially shocked, mostly bc people don’t trust fae and she’s gonna be kicked out of her realm, but we completely skip over her leaving her entire life behind to move to Faerie and her adjustment period. She is instantly fine with her new reality and the only reason she ends up having issues is bc her mate rejects her not long after she gets there.

And maybe happily accepting her new life wouldn’t be so shocking if she had an awful life so far or didn’t feel like she belong in the mortal realm and saw this as a chance to start over… but that’s not the case. She talks about having a summer house in the Maldives, living her best life having flings, and partying with her best friend (who I still for the life of my don’t understand the purpose of including in this story; she served no purpose). Her blasé demeanor towards being forced to leave her world behind to go live with a family she doesn’t know, after turning out to be a creature many people don’t trust or like… the whole thing doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t help that we basically skip back and forth between when she finds out she’s fae and then to two years in the future (or a handful of months in Faerie). There was a chance for things to be explained, for us to see her adjust to her new life and explain things to us through her learning experience, but we get none of that so we’re just in the dark.

One of the most frustrating things about the writing in this story is the fact that the author would constantly allude to information that was never discussed or explained, but there was an assumption that we somehow would know what she was talking about. Edina’s mortal parents apparently not caring about her is an example of that. They mention it once as a joke and that’s it. Another time the MMC, Eldoris, mentions that Edina fought in the ‘Witch Wars’ with them right after she arrived (which makes no sense to me because she just got there. Just learned she has powers but suddenly she’s fighting in a war??). They mentioned this war multiple times throughout the story and how she fought in it, but there is no context at all. We’re just supposed to take this information and run with it. And now that I’m writing this, I’m realizing that aside from the name of the war, there don’t seem to be any witches in Faerie at all, so now I’m even more confused about it! The one that really had me poised to chuck my kindle clear across the room was when Edina is suddenly afraid of centaur arrows and Eldoris comes up to her and is like ‘your friend got hurt by one of these right?’. Huh??? Since when?? If you’re going to cause a huge scene about her being afraid of something… can you give me some context about why??? Not just throwing that random info out there?? ALSO the author never even explains WHY CENTAUR ARROWS ARE SCARY. Is it just an arrow? Why is called a ‘centaur arrow’ then? Why is she so scared of it??? I have NO context for the reason why she’s scared and about the weapon itself. And then, don’t be shocked, but the arrows aren’t even described as being used after all that!! So what was the point of including that information at all??

And finally, I personally wasn’t a fan of the spicy scenes the further we got into the story (and not bc they were kinky or involved multiple ppl!). The first few were good, but eventually they just started to make me cringe… especially once Eldoris started using ‘kitten’ as a legit term of endearment. I flew through those scenes so fast 😂

I really did like the story initially, and I would say the first 40% was good, despite the plot holes and the information that was left out. But the rest of it really made it frustrating to read and it surprises me how high of a rating it has considering all of the writing and story issues.

This is a great rejected mates, slow burn fae fantasy romance!

Edina, our main character is living in the human realm although she is studying as a witch and is about to find out she doesn't really belong...

After a one-night stand, we jump to present day and find out what has transpired in the time that has passed.

I thought the time jumps worked well and I think this enables to plot for another series to take place essentially if I'm not wrong - I haven't read those books and there were a couple of times where some things were implied that I thought might be part of another series. I think there are a couple of interconnected characters who might have further back story of them elsewhere.

That being said, I followed along well and ended up falling for the characters in this book!
Edina to begin with was on a bit of a bad path, but when we find out what has been happening, she is then redeemed with intervention from El!

The romance is a glorious slow burn read, sort of friends to lovers with fake dating and marriage of convenience. I found myself honestly having a cry at one point because I was so involved in the love story, it really tugged on my heart strings! I was really glad it resolved in the way it did, it worked so well and was unexpected for me, at times you don't know how you want things to do but the ending worked for me.

The world building and inclusion of fae mythology was great, the different courts had lots of political intrigue behind the scenes and Edina's mother and her multiple husbands were an entertaining addition. I would love to read more about the heir's as they were characters I could see having spin offs!

I really recommend this for readers who like fake dating, slow burn and enjoy fae stories.

My only comment was that for me personally, I didn't feel we needed the epilogue as I didn't feel like it added much but I know a lot of readers like that kind of wrap up!

I received an arc of this book from the author and this is my honest review.

On character development alone, this book would be 5 stars. However, I did find it to be a bit cliché as far as fae/faerie books go. Because of this, it seemed a bit predictible. A good cozy fantasy read!

There was alcoholism, baby selling, sex shows, rejected mate bonds, 7 dads, but maybe it was always the friends we met along the way? (Since Puck got friend zoned)

I’ve got a LOT of questions, and one of them is a major spoiler.

First, I read this book and the Made by Magic series in a binge bc I really like them.

However, I have to drop a star from this book because there were a lot of plot elements that got started, and didn’t resolve.

1. Edina’s relationship with her adoptive parents. It’s alluded to that it was bad but, and (maybe) because they didn’t pay attention to her. Plus, what happened to THEIR child? Aren’t changelings usually replaced with a human child. If not, were her adoptive parents part of the smuggling ring?

2. Soooo what about the third person in the smuggling ring. This was never resolved. Katie killed one. Edina killed one. Puck is somehow involved… 🤷‍♀️

3. Who was draining the children? The hellfire fae? Titania? Never resolved that plot line at all.

4. Not a question, but The ending was kind of anti-climatic. The last battle scene seemed meh. There was so much emotion in Katie’s books…but it was hit and miss here.

5. Ok, so this is what I REALLY want to know: if time in Faerie is super slow, and Edina has a zillion adult children, but the baby is named Kathryn, do we think this means Katie has aged and died in the mortal realm? OR, did I read way too much into this 😂

I received an e-arc copy for this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is not the first book I read for Marianne A. Scott.
I binged her series of Made to rule which is set in the same world as this book.
At first I was wary of that book and to indulge in this journey and God how glad that I was proven wrong.
My reasoning for the worry was one of the trigger warnings which is rejected mates and since I witnessed in her first series that kind of relationship of mates and I do love Edina since she is a badass I was definitely worried.
But I did start the book and suddenly I am at 75% of it and can’t leave it.
I so loved the dual narration and hearing Eldoris thoughts.
Edina proved to be a badass once more as well as her mother who I definitely want to know her story with her seven husbands. They are so intriguing. Edina vulnerability and Eldoris understanding were amazing.
Redeemed Puck made me excited to know of his past and his coming story and waiting for it.
Eldoris is the perfect human who is empathetic and understanding. Loved his sweetness
But would have loved to see more of his dominant sexual side.
Absolutely loved the slow burn.
Again Ms. Scott made me love this world and wishing I could live with these ppl.

If you loved the first series you will love Edina’s spin-off. I am grateful I received an arc for this because I loved Edina! This book is full of big emotions and how people handle their trauma. I love how it’s high fantasy with the urban twist so the book tropes they reference as it’s going was hilarious. The banter is fantastic and watching Eldoris come to terms with his feelings… sigh. Also he’s top notch book boyfriend material. I love the side characters and the peeks you get in their lives. Highly recommend

This was an easy read. I enjoyed the story overall. Would recommend to others. I loved the slow build in learning each characters back story and how relationships developed. However when I finished the book I honestly thought, “that was it?” I felt the last couple of chapters were rushed and details were minimal in comparison to the previous chapters. It was a couple shift from the first half of the book which left me feeling uneasy and unsatisfied.

This was such a fun read! Totally a different experience to read about a rejected mate bond. Marianne really succeeded in having the reader mourn the rejection while also rooting for the non mated romance.

Edina is hilarious and the angst was pretty good. The only reason this didn’t get 4 stars was because I wasn’t super interested in the conflict. But still a good ride 😉🌶️🌶️

This was my first book by Marianne and my first ARC read! I want to say thank you so much for the opportunity to read this early AND for this story.

3.5⭐ 4🌶️

I want to preface this with saying. I enjoyed this book. I loved the story and Edina and Eldoris' romance.

Potential spoilers below:

I loved the witty banter, the mix of modern and Fae relms how hilariously aware the characters were that they were a romance trope. It was fun!

I came into this totally blind and unaware of previous series by this author. While yes, a stand alone book, having read the previous series would've been a great help to me, as I found myself not understanding or missing references to previous events and wishing that I had more context to the very often mentioned Witch Wars.

Along with this, I didn't fully grasp the connection and friendship between Edina and Katie. It felt underdeveloped, which would be remedied by having read the aforementioned previous series.

I also wanted more information on what happened when Edina emerged on her birthday. We get a jump forward 2 years with no mention of how she found her real parents and ended up in Faerie. If reading this as a stand alone, it leaves a lot of this info out.

This book reminded me a lot of others that have been popular lately and seemed to pull from them as well. The names of the different courts in Faerie, Hades and the sex show she puts on, a Red-headed evil queen of the Spring court cursing the FMCs mate... I'm not bringing this up as a criticism but more because it felt familiar, like oh, I've read this before.

I hope this doesn't come across in a negative way because I absolutely loved this story. I devoured the book in less than a day and the characters have been stuck in my head since finishing it. I am absolutely going to read the previous series and the future books as well! (Puck deserves his HEA too 😭)

This book was highly frustrating for me. I was HOOKED for the first half. A strong FMC who isn’t a naive virgin? A magical realm with lots of beautiful and odd creatures? A rejected mate? A flawed FMC with trauma, suffering from alcoholism? All of these things were a fresh take on a fae romance for me and I was SO FREAKING EXCITED to dive in!

It all started falling apart 50% through. This book REALLY needs a better editor. There is SO MUCH POTENTIAL here!

The conversations between characters was INCREDIBLY frustrating and confusing. One character would say something, and in the same line a different character would react. Normally, those two things would go on different lines unless both characters were named. But that didn’t happen. I reread the same lines OVER and OVER again because it wasn’t clear who was speaking. I almost gave up, I was so irritated.

Also, there are some pretty glaring plot holes here that should have been addressed. The biggest being WHY the bad queen was doing any of this? Or why her army continued to fight? There was literally no explanation.

My biggest gripe however, is the fact that this book is advertised as a standalone. This is NOT a standalone. There was many characters from I’m assuming was a different book. And an entire war occurred with these characters, but it’s never really explained. So you get all these blurbs about how they’re best friends, and they fought in the war, and they pop up OVER and OVER in the book and they are made to seem important, but you have no idea who or what their purpose is. Calling this a standalone is misleading and I would not have picked up this book if I had known.

This author has some amazing potential. This could have been a 5 star book! I loved the writing and I absolutely adored the characters. But a serious editor or multiple editors would have made a WORLD of difference here.

I’m being generous with the 2-stars. I was originally going to rate it 4 stars, up until the end.

I enjoyed the story despite the off pacing and plot holes. I liked both Edina and Elordis as our main characters, I feel like them agreeing to be friends before getting involved was the right call and the slow burn worked great here.

What ruined this for me.

The third act breakup alone should’ve tanked this to a 1 star because after the MMC is super open with communication he does something super out of character acting like he didn’t know the MMC better than that; and to make it even worse, it was Edina going back to Puck? It ruined the book for me. If they hadn’t confessed to being in love then I might give a pass but they had both said I love you to each other and it’s like out of nowhere they didn’t trust each other.

Best part is that if you remove the entire 3rd act breakup it doesn’t change anything for the plot of the book. She could’ve broken what was left of bond with Puck and still be with Elordis, it just added something super unnecessary at the 96% mark.

📕BUNNY’S🐰 ARC REVIEW 📕

Book rating: 4.5 / 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice level: 3 / 5🌶️🌶️ 🌶️

The CHOKEHOLD this book had me in! When I say I read cover to cover within hours, I did not put the book down for one moment! This is one of my favorite reads of the year!

I love how modern the storytelling is, it is like being on Facetime with your best friend and she is giving you the steaming hot tea.

Edina the female main character, is bursting with sass, sexiness, confidence, and humor. She is an easy character to fall in love with. She has fight in her bones, the way she handles her life making a complete 360 flip, to fighting against her own urges to not let herself be vulnerable in front of others, to fighting down fae with hellfire and fighting against the urge to admit she is in fact head over heels in love.

I loved how the book starts off by making us experience the rush of that first love intensity. Edina and Puck, can't keep their hands off each other. It's that kind that takes you by storm and leaves a mess you wake up to in the morning. And that in fact happens, as well as we watch Edina’s heart completely shatter shortly after both emotionally and physically. Our poor baby. Someone come to love her!!

We deep dive into how she is in and out of life trying to cope with the loss and pain she is suffering. Many of us can relate to drowning ourselves in not-so-healthy habits when our hearts are broken.

I also loved how the author was brilliant and would sneak big details in, casually. And you are like, wait what just happened? What did she just say? I found it absolutely hilarious and well-aligned with the personality of our heroine. I will note that there were some holes in information but later found out it’s because this is a spin-off of a different series. I wish I had known making it easier to understand the book. but it does well as a stand-alone as well.

For peace to ensue our heroine agrees to a political marriage with the hottest, sweetest, and most considerate fae prince in this realm Eldoris. When I say I was obsessed with him!!! It's an understatement! He’s a cinnamon roll who deserves love. My man felt loss deeper than any soul could experience. He battles his trauma with his lost mate and his love for our heroine. They both are constantly raging an internal battle with themselves?!? They are a mist a war they don’t have time to indulge in love? They are just pretending there is no way it can be real? Can they both let go of the past that's holding them back? CURIOUS NOW, AREN’T YOU? GO BUY THE BOOK cause I am not spoiling it!!

There are some steamy spicey scenes, with tons of build-up! This makes the smexy scenes 10x better because it's worth the wait when it finally happens! Beautiful combination of love, lust, and passion rolled into one.

Overall I thought the book was an absolute dessert to eat up! It's on my list of favorite books of 2023, I felt an insane amount of love and I smiled so much with this book. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 is because I felt some of the characters felt a little too mainstream. Although that may be my fault for reading too much. And that there were a lot of missing information holes throughout the story. Sometimes it was cute but I would have liked the deep dive into what happened in those parts. Other than that absolutely loved this book! Highly recommend you start reading it now!

Received as an arc and all opinions are truthful and solely my own. Thank you for the opportunity 🖤

4.5/5 ⭐ 4/5 🌶️

Thank you Marianne for the eARC of this book! I had a chance to read this book before the release in exchange for an honest review and tell you all about it!!

First, if you have read the made from magic series you will eat this up! We get a whole book about Edina and she finally gets her HEA 🥰 BUT you do NOT need to read the other series in order to enjoy this book, it is a standalone in what will be an interconnected series of standalones in the Fae realm. *Personally I think you should read them because they were amazing, and it would only enhance your love of this book 😜*

I absolutely loved Edina's character development in this book! She is in a really rough spot emotionally (and physically) because of a rejected mating bond, and copes with it in very unhealthy ways. But her determination to finally pull herself up is so admirable. But the reason she can do it is because of friends, most notably her new betrothed Eldoris. He is half human half fae, prince of summer court and general of the Fae army. He wants a marriage to Edina, princess of the winter court for an alliance between the seelie and unseelie. They soon realize that because of their common pasts they can rely on each other and comfort each other in a way no one else has been able to. It may be a marriage of convenience, but that doesn't mean it won't turn into something real...

Oh, and they so want to make her mate jealous, so we get the fake dating trope too 😍😱

I am a sucker for fated mates, so admittedly, I was leery going into this if I would love it knowing they weren't fated, but I was pleasantly proven wrong! Something about choosing your fate and having it still be all consuming was so fulfilling! You can choose your own fate sometimes and that was beautiful 😍 I loved the connection between these characters so much 😭 (the emotional connection too, not just the spicy connection 😜) Bonus, it is dual POV so we get to see him lose it for her!!! Eldoris is so good and total goals for a book boyfriend *nothing but green flags here*

Now for the good stuff... first this is a spicy book with open door scenes. We do get something right at the beginning, but it is a slow burn friends to lovers romance so the real good stuff comes in around 80% but that means we also get the tension too, it's the best of both worlds! I will prepare you that it is not all vanilla heat here, there are kinks (and public displays with voyeurism - think neon gods iykyk). 🥵

**Check trigger warnings, there were a few, but most notably that I want to mention is talk of alcohol abuse**

I did so hope that the FMC would work it out with her fated mate and her fiancé and they’d have a lovely three-way romance in the end. Like mother, like daughter, right? Whilst my dreams sadly did not come true, this was still a heartwarming genre-savvy love story where two people trying to do a fake relationship trope indulge in the hubristic notion that THEY will be the exception to the rule.

> “But fair warning, every fake dating book I’ve ever read ends with the fakers in love for real.”

And as the FMC’s BFF uttered these words, the distant gong of inevitability rang out, and so their fate was sealed.

The timeline in this book was a little unclear to me. One day in Faerie is fourteen days in the mortal realm, so when the book says it’s been two mortal years since the FMC turned 21 and transitioned to fae, I assumed that meant she was actually only 104 days older, since she had been in Faerie that whole time. But then the MMC refers to her as a twenty-three-year-old, so idgi 🤷🏻‍♀️ They mark birthdays by mortal calendars? Imagine everyone having a birthday every 52 days, lol. Cake overload!

It’s even weirder when you think of FMC calling the BFF on her magic mirror. Does FMC appear to be moving and talking 14x slower, and BFF appears to be moving on 14x super speed? Does the mirror accidentally anchor the two timelines together for the duration? If they forget to hang up the call, does it break the universe? Er, just don’t think about it too hard, it’s magic!

I love the relationship between the main characters throughout this book though, it was always obvious they cared for each other quite a bit and they had chemistry too, and I loved that they were always honest with each other, even when they weren’t being honest with themselves. The book was a pleasure to read.

I will say this book was a great read, however I thought it jumped around a lot in the beginning which is why im giving 4 stars and it took a little bit to catch my interest. However, After further reading into the book i found out why it jumped so much, it is because it is giving the backstory on why our main heroine is acting the way she is. What got me into the book is our main heroine being her sassy self and her confidence was amazing. She didn't care what others thought of her, she is who she is and who cares what others think. I love how she grew even more as a character throughout the book. She went from being confident, to heartbroken from her rejected mate bound that was also making her physically ill, back to her spunky/sassy, and confident self because of our favorite fae prince El. Her true family didn't have the fix to help her but he was the soothing balm for her stormy emotions that she needed to work through. He may have not gone through the same heartache/physical pain from a broken mate bound but he did have his own to work through. They were able to do it together and watching their love grow throughout the book was a site to see (pun intented). The twist and turns of the plot were amazing and surprising all at the same time. I love the lively banter between El and Edina! It gave this book a semblance of normalcy in a fae realm that catches you as a reader! Fair warning you will fall in love with El, he was such a sweetheart to Edina. It was so nice to read that. I can't wait to read Pucks story and maybe Edina children story. If you love fae royalty, rejected mates, friends to lovers. Well this book is for you!

I went into this book with the wrong expectations. Based on the synopsis I was expecting an angsty slow burn romance with a solid fantasy subplot. So I was quite surprised when there was a grafic sex scene in Chapter 2.
I personally didn’t feel the chemistry between the love intrests and the side characters fell flat for me as well.
I did like the writing and the few weird lines were not too drastic to hinder my enjoyment, although I wish the author didn’t refered to every man as “male”. I did appreciate that the author made it a point to not fall into typical chlichés of the romance genre and let the main characters communicate how they were feeling, in the first two thirds at least. When it came to the third act break up, all of that good intention went out the window and the whole ordeal seemed very out of character to me.
I found the plot and world building lacking as well. I couldn’t get a grasp on the magic and was constantly confused how the “Real World” interacted with the Fae.
I also didn’t like the redemption arc Puck’s character got. Edina forgave him way too easily and also conveniently overlooked his involvement in the childtrafficking.
Furthermore, the ending was really rushed and the “big bad” got dealt with so quickly and easily. Maybe it’s my fault for wanting this book to be something that was not the project the author wanted to write, but this contributed to my issues with the work.
I also don’t know how to feel about the fact that Eldoris’s father was a black slave and Eldoris got his tribal tattoos and this was just mentioned in passing.
I do however appreciate the openness surrounding sex and the casual queerness.

When Marianne A Scott announced that she would be writing a spin off to Made From Magic from Edina's point of view, I knew immediately that I was going to DEVOUR it. And after receiving my arc, devour it, I did.

I enjoyed this book so much. I loved Edina in Made From Magic, so I'm so happy we got her story. I love Eldoris and he's definitely a great cinnamon roll book boyfriend.

The plot of the book kept me coming back for more. My heart broke for both Edina and Eldoris as they both worked through trauma and baggage, and once again Scott has given us amazing mental health representation. I also loved getting little bits of Katie and Vlad. Scott gave us little check ins with them without having them take over the story.

All of that being said, I was hoping for a more climactic ending. This book was much more character driven than the original trilogy, but that worked for the plot and the standalone nature.

Also, this book was HOT. 🥵 Edina and Eldoris are definitely into way more stuff than I am. I had a lot of fun exploring some of the kinks and learned a few new things about myself. 😂

If you love Edina, cinnamon roll heroes, and character driven stories, this book is absolutely for you! Jump in to enjoy the Slow Burn to End All Slow Burns!

I received an arc of this book from the author for my honest review, so let’s get into it. Oh, I loved the trilogy Made Of Magic so much, and I was so happy to find out that she was writing this spinoff series. I loved our main characters. OMG they were so cute the entire time. I also greatly appreciated that this like to point out that there are toxic ways to deal with trauma, and that we shouldn’t do them because I think that’s just a great reminder for people. Honestly, this series could have zero like war battle fighting, and I would love it with all my heart. The romance and the slowburn in this book was top-tier. I basically read it in one day and I don’t regret it at all. The one criticism that I have is our main female character is a Winter Fae and because she is that the cold doesn’t bother her, but she still doesn’t like the cold weather and winter. Which to me just feels weird. I feel like whatever court you belong to that’s where you should thrive in. Not to say that than if you enter in the opposite of your court, it would have a negative affect, but that was just one little critique that I had.

Surpassed expectations! I laughed aloud a few times. Got in my feels. There was definitely some cheese cheesin’. One thing I dislike is when authors write main characters who read a lot, and they (the main character) talks about book tropes. Example: I’m living the fake engagement trope lol said to her best friend. Just makes me cringe a lil.

I loved watching them fall in love. BUT my other issue with the book is— you grow a soft spot for Puck and it makes me wonder why she couldn’t fight for him if she was fated to him. Like clearly she had some intense feelings for him and knew his queen had some kind of hold. So why couldn’t she have some open communication like she had with Eldoris? <
That leads me into my favorite part, I love how they loved each other. I love how patient he was and consistent. Loved how you got to watch them grow and learn to communicate with each other.

Giving this 5⭐️ so others will give it a try!

It is a slow burn. Personally I would rate it 2/3 🌶️

Thanks to Marianne for the ARC of this book!

To start off, I'm a sucker for a fae romance, and this is definitely one of the good ones! I thoroughly enjoyed Edina as a character, her sass and fiery attitude made for a compelling read.

Eldoris, the main love interest, is an absolute sweetheart. I loved how both Edina and Eldoris slowly began to rely on each other more and more throughout the book. I usually prefer enemies to lovers, but this friends to lovers dynamic was done perfectly.

Also, the slow burn in this book. Man, was it worth the wait! 🔥

Overall, I really enjoyed this read. My only comment would be some parts felt a bit skimmed over, such as Edina's transition into fae and experiences during the Witch War. As this is a standalone new series, it would have been nice to get a bit more context on these things without having to read the Made from Magic series first.

This book is a SLOW burn. I felt the frustration the MC felt. I just wanted them to get together already!!! This was a unique mix of many different tropes. Some of the tropes I noticed were marriage of convenience, some fake dating, fated mates, rejected mates, and friends to lovers. It was very interestingly cool to see all these different tropes woven together. This is a great book and I love Edina so much!! I was very excited for her book! I just felt like there was a good amount of fluff. I found myself questioning why this is important. Overall I loved Edina character arch and how much she grew throughout this book. I also found it super interesting to learn more about Fearie and how things work there. I wish the time jump at the end wasn’t so rushed. I would have loved a more in-depth picture of the couples life after everything and how they handled all 3 situations (iykyk)! Overall definitely recommend and can’t wait for the next book in the series!!

Loved!!!!!

If you are someone that really wanted to get into the world of ACOTAR but found it too much/too overwhelming, this is the perfect book for you! It’s got ACOTAR vibes but is a much easier read, an easier world to get into, easy characters to get to know. I would highly recommend it!

The world that Marianne has created is just stunning, at least in my brain lol. I love that the human world knows about the faerie world and they interact with each other from time to time with liaisons etc. I love that we have a strong fmc. Yes she may be dealing with trauma etc but she very much has a f*ck it, this is who I am, take me or leave me attitude and I love it!!

It would be wrong of me if we didn’t talk about the spice for a moment because holy moly!!! 🥵 The whole book is very smex positive which I absolutely love. There is group smex, female on female, polyamory, the works! The writing of the scenes is just……hot as hell!!!
