When Teagan Lepley is asked to cat-sit by a kindly lady in town, she wasn't expecting the neighbor to be so "friendly." So she asks her best friend to hang out with her so she can honestly say she's busy. What she wasn't expecting was the entire town to think that there is - finally - something more going on between her and her best friend. Something more than the great friendship they've always had.
Deuce Zimmerman is happy to hang out with Teagan. There's never been anyone else whose company he's enjoyed more. But when she disappears, he panics, and it's possible he might, for the first time, be tempted to cross the bonds of friendship into something more.
Will one housesitting assignment bring these two best friends together? Or will it ruin their friendship forever?
Honestly this is the way things should be. Too many people like George next door, mistake lust for love. Deuce and Teagan had been friends most of their lives, and, really knew each other, could trust each other and, express their thoughts and feelings without criticism. If more of the marriages today were like this there wouldn't be the high rate of divorce. My wife and I were good friends before marriage and now coming up on 32yrs of marriage. Definite 5 star read.
I love Deuce and Teagan’s story it is such a sweet story of best friends doing everything together not realizing that they could be and wanted to be so much more. Best friends to sweethearts and then on to matrimony just makes the best stories ever. This story gave me such a good feeling and made me smile a lot. I love that Jessie’s stories are so full of faith and love for not only each other but for God first and foremost. Jessie Gussman writes the most amazing stories ever. I can’t wait for her next book. “I received ARC of this book. All opinions are my own
I like how he got on board with her idea. Deuce and Teagan are close friends and seeing them realize that their feeling were more was a joy to read. The story is sweet and cute and a lovely book to spend time with. There are some words of wisdom within this book too. The final chapter was priceless. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I've never read a Jessie Gussman book that I didn't love and this is no exception! The town of Sweet Water has become one of my favorite places and the addition of the cow and pig running through town is just the best! Even though Miss Charlene is no longer in the matchmaking business, several other citizens have picked up the mantle including Miss April, three pre-teen girls, and now three old coots. This is a best friends to more story and is a wonderful addition to this series.
Deuce and Teagan’s story is very entertaining, engaging and enjoyable. They have been best friends for most of their lives and everyone around them is just waiting for them to realize that they are meant to be more than friends. The town’s matchmakers decide that they need to do something to open Teagan and Deuce’s minds to a new relationship. Their matchmakers’ scheme is a little unusual and not as well executed as it could be, but it does do the trick.
Deuce and Teagan spend all their free time together if not more, they finish each other’s sentences, know each other’s likes and dislikes, and they squabble and tease each other constantly. Both have wondered at times if they could become a couple and not just friends, but never acted on it or tried to change the status quo for fear of losing what they already have together. The matchmakers’ plan helps them to see another side of each other, to wonder more about what life would be like as a couple, and to ask God for guidance. When a situation arises that will take Deuce away from their small town and effect their ability to be near each other, both have choices to make that will change everything between them. Will they finally realize that love has always been there just below the surface and that the wealth of knowledge and experience they have with each other has given them a solid foundation for a long, happy marriage?
I loved these two characters! Their story is sweet, heartwarming and wonderful. The stories of some of the secondary characters also evoke reflection and add an added layer of interest to this book. I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I love these “Just a Cowboy’s __” novels! They are all inspiring, funny, so entertaining, and just downright good advice for people to follow in their own real lives!! And, they are true to the Word and the characters always discuss what the Lord would have them do in their situations. The piece-makers are really at it in this one, but it’s so hilarious without Charlene running them! They’re plan is to have Teagan animal sit 2 cats and a parakeet, but they forget the names of the cats. They tell Teagan the name of the male cat is a female’s name and she can’t ever figure out why on earth anyone would name their male pet a female name. Just really cute, funny things like that all through this book! Of course, Deuce is right there to help her take care of the animals. Teagan and Deuce are best friends and always have been. They do everything together! They both are afraid to be more than friends for fear that it would ruin their friendship. But, then, one day Deuce starts asking “what if?” questions and sounding a little worried. That, in turn, gets Teagan, thinking 🤔, and what they start talking about is whether or not they could handle being “friends “ if one of them finds another person to fall in love with! They both know, in their hearts, that they could never live without the other by their side throughout their lives. You must get this book and read all the cute little shenanigans that go on in it! It’s an adorable book and I guarantee you, that you will love it! ♥️ I did receive this book from the author, but the opinions are expressly my own.
Everyone is always asking these best friends if they are dating each other. They've been best friends forever and they know each other so well that they can almost read each other's minds. Since Charlene got married the Piece Makers haven't been doing any matchmaking but there is another group of ladies that have decided to help Teagan Lepley and Deuce Zimmerman realize they can be more than just best friends.
They come up with a crazy plan to have Teagan watch 2 cats and a parakeet while house sitting. Since the woman making the plan didn't own them she had her friend drop them off. Since she knew nothing about the cats, she had a hard time answering Teagan's questions. The funniest part was when she starting telling Teagan their names. Of course these ladies know that Deuce will come to help Teagan out so they have some other funny plans up their sleeves to get these two together.
I loved the deep friendship between Teagan and Deuce as they selflessly gave support to one another. She was there to help him train his horses and he was there to assist where he could as she baked for the farmer's market. They had the perfect foundation to build a lasting marital relationship. Would they be afraid to destroy their friendship if they moved into a romantic relationship?
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
This is the second book in a series, and I haven't read the first, but I found it can be read as a stand-alone. The cover is gaudy. The blurb is unexciting. The title is misleading because he's more of a horse boy, and the town has only one wild cow! But the story is very nice.
It starts off well. There are some references to the Christian way of life, but it's not very preachy. The main leads are cute but boring. I wish the book would've been about the funny matchmaking ladies instead. The pets are a lovely addition to the plot, and their renaming had me in splits. Unlike Teagan, I don't find any flaw with Deuce developing feelings after the townsfolk implied that they seemed to be a couple. Sometimes, people need a nudge to see what's been right in front of their eyes all along. I like Teagan's easy-going nature. She's likeable and genuine. I like Deuce's self-doubt. We have too many overly masculine fictional men, so it's nice to read about an everyday, chill guy for a change.
Give it a go if you're up for a short, sweet, and clean story with a good build-up and a satisfying conclusion.
This is book two in a new series by Jessie Gussman, which promises to be as entertaining and meaningful as the previous two series also set in the town of Sweet Water North Dakota. All the books are stand alone and can be read in any order. This features Deuce and Tegan in a friends to lovers story. I especially liked the way a series of events cause Deuce to reevaluate the relationship, and we see his internal debate about the risks or rewards of changing how things have always been between them. I only gave it four stars because, personally, the cat sitting problems just annoyed me, although I think that they were meant to be funny. I'm looking forward to future storylines with the three young girls who are looking for fathers, and the development of the storyline about the flyboys commanding officer, as well as learning more about the four former flyby themselves. Whatever she writes, Jessie can be counted on for clean, sweet, and realistic stories. She knows that the animals have to be fed, and money can't solve every problem.
I received an ARC of this book, but this review is my honest opinion.
Deuce and Teagan have been best friends since childhood. They do everything together. They help each other with their jobs and spend all their time together. The whole town expects them to develop a romantic relationship. They have both, without the knowledge of the other, thought about the idea of becoming more than friends. But they both fear that romance might adversely affect their friendship. Just when they decide to give it a try, Deuce’s family asks him to move away for two years to help in the family business.
This book has lots of humor. It will certainly keep you laughing. But it also has very good spiritual content. Deuce and Teagan pray together and seek God’s will. They discuss what elements are needed for a Christian marriage.
There are a couple of subplots that are a bit confusing and distracting, but it is a very good book. Jessie is one of my favorite authors. Her books always contain godly principles that we can apply to our own lives.
I received a free copy of this book from the author. My review is voluntary and unbiased.
In book two in the Flyboys of Sweet Briar Ranch, best friends Teagan and Deuce find themselves cat sitting and parakeet sitting for Miss April (even though they aren’t her pets) and the two best friends come to realize that maybe…just maybe they are willing to take their friendship to another level…when they get news that might break them apart. The book does begin with the rather sad story of June’s marriage. One that is suffering but June is working on being a strong Christian. The book also has a few other side stories in the works that I assume are going to get even more interesting as the series continues on. Again, Jesse Gussman is able to provide good Godly wisdom within her storyline that just flows effortlessly and works wonderfully with the characters. A sweet clean friends to marriage romance with a little humor and lots of good advice within. I purchased this book as part of the eight book set titled Flyboys of Sweet Briar Ranch. I read for the enjoyment and voluntarily review so that others may know what to expect and authors may be helped by critique and encouragement.
This is a sweet, clean, best friend’s romance. I enjoyed the chemistry of the relationship between Teagan and Deuce. These two are inseparable, read each others mind and are oblivious that they would make the perfect couple. Fortunately the entire town can see it. The entertaining, meddling elder ladies, trying to be match makers was a sweet addition. I enjoyed all the above aspects of this book. But… there were a few chapters scattered throughout the book that were confusing and out of place. The teens helping the older gentleman navigate tic tok and the teen trying to impress a ‘higher class’ girl. I didn’t see that these chapters were connected in any way. The worst part was the ending! It just abruptly stopped. Yes the romance was addressed but , I wouldn’t even call it a cliff hanger. I actually wonder if some pages are missing? I read another book by this author and had issues with it also. So… 3 stars for the sweet romance.
Loved Teagan and Deuce's story! These two had been mentioned in several books in this series, so glad to get to know them better. They have been best friend's forever and never thought of being more, but everyone that saw them knew they where made for each other. Finally, Miss April decides to take matters in her hands and asks Teagan to house sit for her when she and her husbands goes on vacation. Knowing wherever Teagan is, Deuce will end up, she borrows 2 cats and a bird to help in her plea for Teagan to come stay at her house for three weeks. I haven't laughed so hard in years till Miss April introduces Teagan to "her" cats and bird. I was nervous over the creepy neighbor, and cheering when Deuce raced to the rescue. I stayed up all night to finished this book, it was that good. If you like clean, fun, heart warming stories, you can't go wrong with 'Just a Cowboys Best Friend'. I highly recommend. I received this book from the publisher, the thoughts and comments are my own.
Teagan and Deuce had been best friends forever. Miss Charlene has moved out of the matchmaking business in Sweet Water but she has passed the baton on to Miss April. Miss April is new at this matchmaking business and she made a few mistakes but she was determined to make it work for Deuce and Teagan. She was going on a "honeymoon" trip with her husband to Italy and she needed someone to watch her two cats and parakeet. But . . . she didn't own either so she borrowed some animals from her friends and voila, instant petsitting for Teagan.
Miss April's neighbor was a bit creepy towards Teagan but I enjoyed watching Deuce get all protective and take care of the creepy neighbor.
This was a sweet addition to the series that takes place in Sweet Briar, North Dakota. It was clean and wholesome, like all of Jessie Gussman's stories and there is a happy ending.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
Teagan and Deuce have been best friends for years, but have never considered anything more - even though the entire town sees they'd make the perfect couple. Can a group of matchmaking ladies throw the pair together in a way that will convince them that the risk is worthwhile?
This was perhaps getting a little bit sneaky for me - but it was definitely well intentioned and all ended well, so...? Ignoring the match-making side of things, this was a nice, sweet story with good Christian morals and messages, often quite thought-provoking. I like the way that author has woven ongoing threads of background story into this series, though I recognise it could be somewhat disconcerting if read on its own. A standalone romance with characters and longer story arcs shared across the series. Recommended.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
It’s the #2 of the series and it keeps its promises as usual in Jessie Gussman’s books! Teagan and Deuce are the best friends ever and are really happy with their friendship. But, Sweet Water is a small town and everyone wants them together and makes sure they know it, which annoys them a lot. Why a man and a woman could not be just friends? It was very funny for me to read this book because I’ve been best friends with my parent’s best friend’s son forever and we never crossed the bridge of a romantic relationship (I’m married, not with him obviously, but we’re still friends!). It’s mainly Teagan and Deuce’s story but a lot of other characters are involved. We come across old friends from Sweet Waters and meet new ones. A delightful read with love, laugh and, of course God’s word and wisdom! I recommend it!
Teagan and Deuce have been best friends almost all their lives. They care for each other almost as if they are a married couple. They both kind of want more before are afraid to try because they don't want to mess the friendship they have. The match making ladies in town decide these 2 need a little push so arrange for Teagan to do a little house and pet sitting so they can have some time alone to see how good they are together. They end up discussing what a marriage is to them and what they want in a spouse and decide maybe they should give a try to something more than being friends. It was nice to see how these two approached the start of a relationships without just jumping into something without discussing what's important to them first. This is something more people need to do.
Best Friends? Check Laugh-out-Loud story? Check Animals’ mix-up? Check “She almost jumped out of her skin as something touched her leg. “Oh!” She cleared her throat and looked down. “This is...one of my kitties.” “He’s adorable. What pretty coloring. What’s his name?” “His name?” April realized her statement was more a question. “Her name. It’s...Elizabeth.” Silently she apologized to her late grandmother for taking her name and putting it on a cat. “Wow. What a nice name. What made you name him that?” “It’s a family name.” “Oh nice,” Teagan said. “It’s a boy, so I thought that was a little odd. But if it’s a family name...” Somehow Teagan managed to say that with a straight face and continue to stroke the cat…” I received an ARC of this book for review. I was not required to write a favorable review. All opinions in this review are my own.
Just a Cowboy's Best Friend is the story about how Deuce and Teagan have been best friends for 20 years and know all about each other. But when the match makers of Sweet Water decide they need to be more than friends, Miss April asks Teagan to house sit for her while she goes to Italy. Throw in 2 cats that hide, a parakeet that gets out of it's cage, and a new next door neighbor that thinks Teagan belongs to him as added excitement. On top of all that Deuce finds out he has to move to Fargo for about 2 years to work in the family business. Where will that leave Deuce and Teagan? The author has magically spun this story and it entertains. I received an advanced copy for review. I give this book 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.,
This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author.
This sweet, small town romance series is a bit different from Me Gussman's other series. It mostly focuses on one couple, but there are other storylines that carry through several books. So far all are interesting and I like catching bit of them as the main story moved along. Of course this means that the series will have to be read in order.
I loved the dialogue in the story. I love that the main couple talk to each other and just plain have fun with each other. There are glimpses at several families in the story and in most the family members are supportive of each other, I like that too.
This is a very touching friends to romance story with all the feels! Ames and Palmer’s journey is fun, adventurous, tense and intense (at times) with just enough levity to allow the serious God message to shine through. A thought provoking tale that will make you ask the question “what would I do” many times throughout the book. This is my first read by this author and highly recommend if you are looking for a lighthearted, God themed, thought provoking read to brighten your day! I was given a complimentary copy of this book by the author. My opinion is my own.
The matchmakers were at it again in this cute story. Deuce and Teagan were best friends, yet everyone thought they made a perfect couple and should be dating. Alice believed one should marry their best friend because the relationship would last and would make a strong marriage. It was interesting to see at what length the characters would go to get Deuce and Teagan to date. I found it interesting to learn about June and her marriage and how hard she tried to make it work when her husband would not try and did not seem to care. I liked the happy ending in the christian romance. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Deuce and Teagan have been best friends for twenty years. Most everyone in town already pairs them as a couple. Lately Deuce is wondering if perhaps they should be a couple, but he fears ruining a great friendship if Teagan doesn't return those feelings.
A lady in town decides to speed things up by asking Teagan to house sit a pair of cats and a parakeet she has borrowed from two other friends. She's also hired her new male neighbor to be obnoxiously friendly to Teagan in order to get Deuce into town more often. The fun begins when this scheme takes off!
Jessie's books are edifying. I would say they are also light reads, but she does tackle difficult topics. Bad things happen to the characters or because of their choices, but there is redemption, grace, and forgiveness. She weaves in truths about how we should leave as Christians, which serve as reminders as I listen along.
Love the pig and cow story woven through this series.
I've listened to her books on YouTube, "Say With Jay." He's a great narrator, even for the women's voices. It's the type of book that you can listen to while doing something else. Any can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend starting the series in order as several connect characters and places.
I had an ARC for this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Teagan Lepley is asked to watch a lady’s cats and parakeet while she is away. When the lady’s neighbor starts making unwanted advances, Teagan asks her best friend Deuce Zimmerman to hang out with her, which isn’t a hardship as they are always together. When his family asks him to move to another town to help with the family business for two years, both Teagan and Deuce begin to rethink their relationship. A great story about friendship, not wanting things to change, and stepping out in faith. A must read!
Everyone in town knows that Teagan and Deuce belong together, except Teagan and Deuce. They are best friends and don’t see the obvious outcome that everyone else does. Now that Miss Charlene has “retired” from matchmaking someone else will have to step into her old job if happily-ever-after is going to keep happening in Sweet Water.
Teagan and Deuce are such a perfect couple. This is a beautiful clean western romance in the best Jessie Gussman tradition. I loved it! I received a free book but this review is voluntary and honest.
Another fantastic book with fun characters by Jessie Gussman. Miss April, June and Helen set out to be matchmakers for two best friends, Deuce and Teagan. Deuce and Teagan have been best friends forever and always ignore people when they suggest they should be a couple. Miss April’s new neighbor is acting very weird and making Teagan uncomfortable while she house sits for Miss April. To stop the neighbor’s advances and the pressure from the townspeople, they decide to pretend they are a couple. *I received this book as an ARC reader for my unbiased review.
What to do when you want more with your best friend?….take a giant leap of faith. Teagan + Deuce = best friends for life, and they are perfectly fine with that. But the town rags them about becoming a couple, and some matchmaking-minded ladies decide to work on the situation. Just when Teagan and Deuce decide that maybe more will be good, a life-altering decision has to be made: face separation for years or become one?
A sweet, clean, wholesome story that warms the heart. I received a copy from the author for my voluntary opinion. I enjoyed this book.
So April is taking over matchmaking duties because Charlene got married. Teagan and Deuce have been best friends forever but needed a nudge out of the friend zone. April borrows cats and a bird and creates a second honeymoon so Teagan will house sit for her while she is gone. Throw in a pushy neighbor and it all works out. But just as Deuce is ready to propose his father asks him to relocated to Fargo to rescue their family business. Read the book for the stunning conclusion. Good illustrations of good Christian character while we are at it.
Pretty sure this is the most I’ve laughed while reading!!
Best friends for 20 years, Deuce and Teagan did everything together. No wonder the townsfolk kept asking when they’ll be “together”. With matchmakers everywhere, would it get them to thinking about more? Very busy with their lives, what will happen if life throws them a monkey wrench? Especially loved their banter. It was often lol funny!
