The Sequencing was nothing like she was taught. Tiarny’s perfect society, created by the Source Herself, was broken.
The drought continued, and nothing in Nellie’s life was going as planned.
She had two of the three prophesied talismans in her possession as she journeyed to Deavita, but the hunt for the last talisman would be more challenging than anything she had ever done. The journey tested her in ways she had never expected.
Nothing would ever be the same again. Relationships were forged and others were broken as Nellie grappled with the difficult truth that lay before her.
Saving Tiarny would not be easy.
The cost might be more than Nellie was prepared to pay.
It might not be her choice any longer.
What would happen to Nellie once the Queen set her sights on the young Healer?
This is book 2 of 3 of the Sequencing Chronicles. For the best reading experience, please read Sequenced first.
The Sequencing Chronicles are dystopian books perfect for lovers of coming-of-age stories, rebellions, government control, and fantasy elements all brought together in one exciting story.
Book 1: Sequenced Book 2: Rise of the Subversives Book 3: The Wielder of Prophecy
Elayna Gallea lives in beautiful New Brunswick, Canada with her husband and two kids. They have dogs and cats and enjoy touring their beautiful province whenever they can.
This was a really good start to my 2024 reads. Having read the first book last year I was excited to see how it would continue. There were a few slow parts but the last quarter really picked up the pace. I read most of it in a day! Looking forward to seeing how Nellie's story ends.
I was provided an ARC of this book in return for a review. This book Leaves off exactly where the first book ended and it’s action packed the entire way through! Similar to hunger games and divergent, this is a dystopian action filled story with a cute romance as well! I found myself screaming at the end wanting more! Highly recommend!
I read Rise of the Subversives in one sitting! With how much I loved Sequenced I was really hoping it would at least live up to it however, it definitely surpassed my expectations. There was so much action, adventure, twists, and turns in this book. I really enjoyed getting to see Nellie truly become herself and to see how the gang evolved. But oh the betrayal I wanted to scream!! I am literally counting down the days until book #3. Elayna has really outdone herself! This series is to die for!!!
Dystopias are my favorite genre, and this series will be an instant hit for others who loves dystopic worlds! I really loved Sequesnced so much and Rose of the Subversives did not disappoint! I do think that people should know that thematic elements are a bit more mature in Rise of the Subversives, than they in Sequenced, but I only mention this for young readers so parents can use some discretion. That being said, I absolutely loved this one! This is the first time I’ve ever dreamt about a world I’m reading about, and I did just that in Rise. Can’t wait for the next book! I did receive an ARC, but my opinions are my own and not influenced in anyway. For anyone looking for their next YA dystopia, this series is perfect!
Full of hair-raising…goosebump causing…heart-pumping moments!
This was the action I was waiting for from the first book! 😍😍🤗 I loved this one so much. Loved seeing Nellie grow as a character, seeing a deep and meaningful relationship develop and experiencing the events that I truly didn’t see coming. I cannot wait to read more in the next book! I’m not going to share too much more about this, since it is the second in the series and I don’t want to ruin anything for other. But damn. Y’all gotta read this series.
The first book in this series was great but the second one, this one was even better. It was fun going to the capital after everything they said about it in book one, to watch this quest Eleanor is on, plus we get the time for her & Dions relationship to grow & be tested. I still say this series is great for anyone that loves dystopian stories like the Hunger Games or Divergent. I personally can’t wait to see what happens next.
This is the second installment of The Sequencing Chronicals. I loved this book even more than the first! In this book we learn more about the sequencing process and why it was set in place. We also continue to learn about Nellie. She has grown so much since we first met her in book 1(Sequenced).
I felt like I flew through this book. I couldn't seem to put it down. I'm so excited for the 3rd book! I need to know what happens next!
5 stars! From the very beginning this book is action packed. A great follow up to Sequenced, this book has a little bit of everything. Action, adventure, romance, betrayal, and great character development. Nellie really grew up in this book and found the strength to step into this role that she never asked for. The first half of the book is a bit slower paced but then it really picks up from there. Thoroughly enjoyed this read and can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
I was given a ARC by the author and have to say that I loved this book and can’t wait for the third of the sequenced series.
I was unsure of Nellie in the first book but she became the character I was hoping for on her epic journey. Even though she will have to make hard choices on her journey, they are all leading to the right path.
Where to begin? It was great. Simple, truthful. I enjoyed watching Nellie grow as a person, and thank god the crying seems to be slowing down! Great plot, character development, and little quips throughout the novel. Great job!
For the second book in the series this was again fantastic. The story between Nellie and Dion is fabulous and the little twist *without giving anything away* with Elijah is out of the blue. It's well written and easy to follow, a nice length book too not one you finish in 3 hours and then have to wait a year for the next 3 hours, can wait for the final installment.
I have 1 complaint; I have to wait for the next book! 🙁 I'm in love with the dystopian world of Tiarny. This continuation of Nellie and Dion's story is complete with reunions, a refreshingly innocent romance, murder, and a mad tyrant. What else can you ask for?
TL;DR: 5/5 stars, great fantasy sequel with representation, mystery, and amazing worldbuilding.
~-*disclaimer*-~ I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review of this book. Everything said here was written in full by me.
I would like to open this by saying that Elayna Gallea’s worlds have, without fail, captivated me start to finish in every one of her books that I’ve read. Tiarny is such a complicated, layered society, and the class system and hierarchy are so believable that you just might forget that you aren’t adventuring alongside Nellie, Dion, Elijah and Bronywyn. I waited what felt like forever for Rise of The Subversives, and I was not disappointed! I was blown away by the storyline in this book (I actually liked it better than Sequenced) and my fingers are crossed that The Wielder of Prophecy follows the same trend. Somehow, Elayna Gallea’s books always keep me up reading until 1 in the morning, when I should be sleeping. Sleep is overrated anyway, right?
The characters experienced many newfound hardships, growing so much along the way, Nellie discovering new things about herself and doing something she’ll never quite forgive herself for, Dion revealing something we’d never expect (a shocker if there ever was one), Elijah finding and losing someone dear to him (and making a few bad decisions), And Bronywyn opening up more than we (and she) ever thought she would. The plot twists were absolutely shocking and I was strung along with Nellie on her journey until the very end. Maybe I’m just sensitive, but I was NOT ready for the pain these characters endured.
I adored Dion’s character this book, because you finally get to see his sweet and caring side, plus the second POV you get from Gallea’s newsletter (amazing, btw. There are two Dion POV chapters on there so far) made me like him even more!
The ending of this book left me needing The Wielder of Prophecy, like SOON, so thankfully I won’t have to wait much longer! April 12, 2022 is when the final book in the trilogy will be released, and I am so ready, you guys.
Personally, this is one of my all-time favorite books. I think any fans of The Maze Runner, The Hunger Games, The Giver, Divergent, or any other dystopian/fantasy society would love this book just as much as I did!
I could not wait for this much anticipated sequel to the first book in the Sequencing Chronicles, Sequenced. The end of that book left a cliff hanger that made waiting for this second book hard, but totally worth the wait.
This book picks up right where the first left off in the journey to the capital with Dion and Nellie approaching the capital.
I do not want to write any spoilers, but right from the beginning, this book leaves your jaw dropped with new information and twists and turns you may not expect as I certainly did not. I finished this book quickly as I could not put it down once I got into the world of Tiranny once again.
I cannot wait for the next and final installment to tie up more loose ends that again leave me yearning for more.
Tears were shed and laughs were had during this roller coaster of a plot throughout the book. If you have not picked up this series, you are doing yourself a disservice.
Disclaimer: I did recieve a copy of this book as an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for my honest review of the book.
One of the keys to good storytelling is letting the reader discover the story and the characters for themselves. Don’t make elements too obvious. It’s overkill and distracts from the message.
I like the story but the main character isn’t believable. I understand every character needs weaknesses. But sometimes it’s just too much. Nellie’s constant weakness and whining overshadows the strengths in the story. She can wield elements but she wants her to be with her Mother, faints a lot, has nightmares, begs the Source to take away her powers, can’t handle the sight of blood, her emotions or her periods. The collar nullifies her powers? A man constantly saves her. If she originally had a disability it would make sense but the character doesn’t. I hate that she’s so erratic. How can she be trusted to wield fire, water and earth in battle when she so weak? Blood freaks her out. She doesn’t even get her period.
if you like fantasy, medieval setting-type dystopias, this is a GREAT book with thoroughly developed characters and imaginative settings, with plots that keep the pages turning. Honestly, this book moved kinda slow, that for awhile, I put it down. My opinion is colored by a bias towards dystopian novels though. But inevitably, the urge to finish and find out what happens next, drew me back. Of course, just when it seemed there could be an end in sight-and truly, the scene was set for a battle to end these books here-the novel turned to a cliffhanger that leaves the reader waiting for the next book in the series. I still want to know how it ends...but the plot moves a bit too slowly for my personal taste. However, I still recommend it as a great read for adventure/fantasy enthusiasts.
Story: 4 stars. Writing: 2 Stars. Elayna: you have written a book, not a tv series. The end of the chapter is not a commercial break. I do not need a reminder that more toil will come. I do not need a cliffhanger. I do not need "But her life would change forever." Or "She never expected what would come next." It is annoying and ridiculously unnecessary. Do you have a thesaurus just about skin tones? My lord.
The story is ok. Every twist is 100% predictable and the change the author had to surprise me she "foreshadowed" in a dream. By foreshadowed I mean wrote out word for word. The main character passes out from anxiety attacks more frequently than me off of antidepressants. I roll my eyes whenever she inhales and exhales. Also, this is more sci-fi/fantasy than a dystopia.
The whole series followed the wonderful world-building and didn't feel rushed. As someone who loves reading fantasy books for the adventure and less for the romances I enjoyed that the romances of the series weren't the center stage and that there were no "spicy" parts to the book. There is fully inclusive partnerships throughout the series, the story itself was immersive and you could really resonate with the FMC during her journey to save her world. Truly amazing series!
An additional comment I will make in favor of the author is that the books give you warnings about the level of violence depiction in the series. This is helpful for people who may be triggered by semi-graphic descriptions of death scenes.
In short, run - dont walk - and read this entire series!
I really like the story. I like the characters. I like reading about a female heroine. I can’t, however, get over the typos, grammatical and spelling errors. It’s so distracting.
This is a real “sentence” from this book: “Just as it seemed as though nothing was could of this,…”
Who edited this? I’m willing to be paid 20% of their fee, and do a better job for you.
I’ll read the third and final book, just to see how they save the world, but my head will continue spinning every time I have to read the wrong usage of two, to, and too, or misplaced pronouns, or a sentence with several missing words.
Loved the world the author has created in these books. The first book seemed a little slow in my opinion (enjoyable but slow). In this book the action picked up and the story grew more in depth. I like the interactions between Nellie and Dion and can’t wait to see what comes from book 3. If you like dystopian books I highly suggest you read this one.
*** I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion ****
This book makes me feel like a teen reader all over again. Sitting on the edge of my metaphorical seat, reading as fast as I can to see what happens next. My toddler destroyed my entire house so that I could finish this book today. I just couldn’t put it down. Gallea writes such captivating characters, with outstanding chemistry. She has built such an intriguing new world that will suck you in from the very beginning and have you begging for the next book. It has been a joy to ARC for you.
Great story line. I really do love the uniqueness of the characters and the path this story is taking. I do feel like some parts of the story move too quickly, as though there was an eagerness, throughout the book, to get to the next part without fully expressing how we got to where we're at. I wanted more details and more.charater development. I'm going to continue reading the series because I do enjoy the storyline.
Keeps making me want to read more. I would love to see this turned into a movie someday. These books are very hard to put down once you start. Kinda thought Ali grew out of the YA group but apparently not. I love getting to know Nellies inner thoughts and how relatable she is because honestly I would be thinking the same.
This story just gets better and better. The plot thickens and there was even a surprise that I never saw coming. I enjoyed the development of Nellie's powers growing and her relationship developing with Dion. I'm looking forward to the final book of the series.
The characters still frustrate me and I don’t care for the writing. Some parts were interesting while other parts dragged, so the pacing was a bit off. I wanted to like this book, but felt pretty meh about it. I wish there were less obvious foreshadowing that didn’t completely give away the end as it made it pretty anticlimactic.
Again, fabulous concept, and now a much better execution not as much overshadowing still enough with the visions that it gets tiresome but still a very good plot. An amazing story.
I feel the hero is suppose to be strong but Nellie is a puss!! She faints, she blames others,! Blah blah blah! Get a backbone girl!! They had to kill her mom before she got mad! Kind of a bamboo lamb I book series!
LOVED to see where this journey is going!!!:-). The Dystopian world is BEAUTIFUL and the characters are AMAZING & full of heart & fire!!!:-). The romance is SOOO GORGEOUS!!!!:-). Sooo much adventure!!!:-). LOVED IT!!!:-)
Follow Nellie, Dion and the gang as they attempt to unseat the evil Queen and free their country from her tyranny! If you are fed up with the BS in this world, spend time in Eleanor’s, where hopefully we’ll get to see a happy ending!
