The New Warriors manages to avoid a complete crash landing as its original series concludes, but does it measure up to the heights of the initial 54 issues?

Picking up directly after the previous run, the Warriors venture to Africa, and the political complexities that defined the earlier stories remain wonderfully intact. I appreciate that there are no easy answers to be found. And during this we lose a member through kidnapping, sending a member away from the team and casting a dark shadow over the team, particularly over Richard.

Thankfully, the narrative continues its smart focus on character development, offering insightful glimpses into their lives. We also see the introduction of new members. While Power Pack's older brother feels somewhat weak, Turbo is a genuine standout. She's a well-developed character who quickly won me over within just a few issues. Additionally, the Scarlet Spider makes for an enjoyable, if brief, addition.

Most of the storylines are well-executed, though the final five or so issues do stumble. The introduction of a time-traveling arc unfortunately plays into my known hatred to such narratives. When the author resorts to unclear explanations, it only makes the problem worse. While not the absolute worst time travel story I've encountered, it's undeniably pretty fucking stupid.

On the brighter side, the Spider-Man related elements prove surprisingly fun, and Ben Reilly is a welcome presence. I also particularly enjoyed the early parts of this collection focusing on Justice. The writers truly transformed that character for me. Initially, I felt indifferent towards him, but by the end of this Omnibus, he had become a top-five character on the team. And of course, Firestar remains the undisputed MVP.

Overall, this is a very solid conclusion to the series, despite some unevenness along the way. It lands around a 3.5 out of 5 for me. Not quite as strong as Volume 1, and slightly below Volume 2, but still packed with fun. I can confidently say I thoroughly enjoyed the entire 90s run of The New Warriors.

The first two New Warriors omnibus' took me by surprise. Fabian Neciesza had put together a run to almost rival the great Chris Claremont on Uncanny X-Men. Doing all the things I like my superhero books to do and little of the things I don't. Needless to say, I approached New Warriors omnibus volume 3 with suitable trepidation. And obviously, such apprehension was well founded. This is a dire and drab finale to what had, up until now, been one of Marvel's greatest team books. A story that ran smack bang into all the terrible 90's nonsense, coming out irrevocably changed for the worse on the other side. Patrick Zircher's art is great, even if it becomes more and more '90's' as the series progresses. Half of this book is god awful Spiderman tie ins. for goodness sake.
The team has been gutted from Fabian's run, with dollar store knock offs, has beens and never will be's filling out its ranks. Evan Skolnick's writing is terrible. Washing away all that Niciesza had built up in a bland and banal tide of mediocrity. I read about a third or so of this before I gave up and began flicking through the pages until I reached the end, without a single issue resembling anything I would have found interesting. Another great title ruined by the 90's. Call me Jon Snow, cause 'I don't want it'. 2/5

As a teen, I remember the book whimpering out in the 25 issues following Nicieza's departure, but reading them in this collection, it was actually still a strong book with a lot of character work, especially with Turbo and Nova, and I hope publishing this helps redeem that third act of the original book!

it wasn't the best. I thought it jumped around a bit between limited series and spiderman cross over so lack of a consistent story. Wish they left out the Venom stories and added the second series of new warriors.

More like 4 1/2 stars. I really enjoyed the wonderful artwork and the further development of some characters I like quite a lot. There was a Justice miniseries to start, and that's one of the characters I'm fond of, and think is interesting. Nova (Richard Rider, the ponytail version), is a strong, colorful supporting character. He's still not known for brains, but has a vivid personality. There was a lot going on in the comic in the mid-1990s. The team even got dragged into the Clone Saga, where various Spider-characters abounded.

I hadn't known -- or remembered -- that Alex Power was making a habit of stealing his siblings' powers. I remember he ended up with a horse's head at the end(?) of Power Pack. I don't remember why he acquired the Kymellian look. I think he's back to a humanlike appearance now? Anyway, at this point, he's joined as a younger member of this teenaged team, as Nova becomes an adult and other original characters mature.

Some of the 1990s references through the New Warriors have gotten dated. Some amused me, but would probably be lost on younger readers. "It's more crowded than Yankee Stadium on a Burn-George-Steinbrenner-in-Effigy Night" or words to that effect, cracked me up, which shows my age.

There wasn't much of Night Thrasher (the "Bat-Punisher" character with a skateboard) in these issues. He had his own series at the time, apparently. But even before he got his own series, he would often leave the New Warriors and go off on his own agendas. Rage went off with him in this case. I believe that at this point, Rage was a young teen in an enormous man's body. I'm kind of sad that I missed seeing more of Rage before he got that terrible puppy-dog-nose facemask.

Maybe I was entertained partly because this comic was done in my time period, but I already mentioned the great art, and I thought that the writing was strong, too.
