Saving the Lakeside Hotel was an unusual choice for me as I tend to choose much darker books but it was the end of my holiday, I was travelling home and I wanted something light-hearted. That’s exactly what I got.

Stacy and Emily go on holiday to Switzerland and check into a super hotel on the bank of Lake Constance. Emily is recovering from surgery after an accident. Stacy is worrying about the amount of time she is getting to spend with her fiancé, David.

Rico is the owner’s son, and he and his father are grieving the loss of his mother, the driving force behind the hotel. Alan is working as a barman at the hotel. These four characters get on well and spend some time sightseeing. It was interesting to read about the places they go and it sounds like a wonderful area to visit.

It soon becomes apparent that all is not well at the hotel and Rico is worried about its future. Not that he shares that with anyone, of course.

I found that this was a lovely relaxing story to read because I knew it was a feel-good book and that’s exactly how I felt when I read it. Which made a nice change. It was also an easy book to read as the story flowed. I’d recommend this to anyone who wants a comfortable book to read that is set in a lovely part of the world.

We accompany Stacy and Emily on a relaxing vacation by Lake Constance, as Emily recovers from a long-term knee injury. Stacy is kind and considerate, though missing her fiancé, medical student David, while Emily has forsworn men since being abandoned by her boyfriend after the accident he caused. Though the food is unexciting, the hotel is in a beautiful setting and the British barman, Alan, treats them like star guests. However, Rico, the son of the hotel owner, is quiet and distracted as he worries about his father’s threat to sell the hotel.

Melinda Huber’s intimate knowledge of the area brings to life the wonderful experiences of the two young women, and we gradually believe that Emily’s life will improve, but Stacy is worried at the lack of communication from her fiancé and whether she should return to her nursing career in the near future. At times she and Rico strike up a rapport, but she has no need for more complications and he seems to be severely depressed at what has happened since his mother’s recent death.

As Stacy and Emily return home it is evident that this is no simple romantic novel. The difficulties of finding a vocation and running a successful business are as relevant as maintaining relationships and then another element is introduced in the form of betrayal. Gradually the plot unfurls to a pleasing conclusion which promises interesting developments in Stacy’s life in the following books in the series.

A refreshing, feel-good story set among the Swiss mountains and lakes. What more could you want? The author captures the sights and sounds perfectly, and for a little while you can believe that you're at the Lakeside Hotel, with its beautiful vistas and wonderful food.

The characters are wonderfully written, and after a few pages you feel as though you've known Stacy, Emily, and Rico forever. And I'm sure we've all met at least one David before!

This is such a calm, comforting read, perfect for escaping from real life for a while and immersing yourself in the lives of these intriguing characters. I can't wait for the next book! Highly recommend.

A happy little read

this book was lovely and a nice relaxing read. I loved that there wasn't a lot of characters as this made it easy to develop a relationship with the ones present in the book. The book did get straight into the storyline which I do appreciate and there wasn't a lot of background information that didn't add to the story which again, is a winner! My only slight bug is that I feel the last two/three chapters had a lot in them and wish it was slightly spread out more. However I also didn't notice until the last chapter it was a series! Would recommend for a rainy days reading to make you smile!

Such a fantastic book.I chose this book because the cover is so pretty. When I opened the first page the good feeling this book gave me started almost immediately, this author's description of the hotel, the garden area, the boathouse and the beautiful sunny weather made me wish I was there with Stacey and Emily. Such a great book. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys feel good romance.

Loved the story but...

I really enjoyed the story and the characters but there was a lot of foul language all through the book which I didn't care for.
