Andromeda Bond has been in hiding her entire life, and she doesn’t know it. A talented VR gamer; a black belt in Judo; a Paintball sharpshooter; and a talented indoor skydiver, Andromeda has been in training since before she can remember, and yet she has no idea what for. But she is about to find out. Andromeda has just been selected for a gaming tournament that is out of this world. The stakes are high, and the consequences are real, and deadly.
I am not a huge fan of Science Fiction, but you always know you are going to get a good story when Brian Falkner has written it.
Twelve-year old Andromeda Bond has been selected to play in the world's first real life, zero gravity, live-streamed video game - all of which is to take place 413km above earth in Spacetown which has replaced the International Space Station.
But the reason for Andromeda being included has not been made fully clear and little does she know that she is in grave danger and will have to use all her skills to stay alive.
The story cracks along at a decent pace and has a definite Hunger Games vibe in places! I was particularly fascinated by the idea of the space elevator, which was used to get the contestants to Spacetown!
Brian Falkner is simply a VERY GOOD young adult fiction author. I bought this book on spec, knowing that if it was written by him, it was going to take me on an unputdownable ride, and I was right. This book is clever, action-packed, and very well written. Falkner knows how to create protagonists that hook you into their plight, he is a master at suspense and keeping you on the edge of your seat. Buy this book and revel in his storytelling. I can't wait for the next Andromeda Bond instalment.
Mash up The Hunger Games in zero gravity with Illuminae's rogue AI, and you will get an idea of this action-packed, page-turner. So inventive and so much fun.
You are guaranteed a great story with Brian Falkner.
Disappointing, predictable, and obviously aimed at the American markets. Hence the "evil Russian " and criminal Chinese. For a while I hoped he display more imagination, but no.
