Wow Scott and Kyra’s story is quite the wild ride. It keeps you reading till the very end. He knows she is his fated mate, but he has secrets that if uncovered will threaten his life and the people of Mystic. Kyra doesn’t want to admit her feeling for him or that she knows she’s his mate. When circumstances make the decision for her she steps up and it’s quite the tale. Loved it!.

We are back in Mystic River, Alaska for another heart pounding story. Kyra is a debuty sheriff and Scott is the town's baker. Both are lynx shifters. A man from Scott's past is found dead, and that begins a whirlwind of secrets and betrayal. Kyra is one stubborn woman, and she has to accept that Scott is her fated mate and she will do anything to protect him. It takes a little bit for Kyra and Scott to come together because of the secrets from Scott's past. I love that once the truth is known, they both trust in themselves and their fate to find each other again.

TAKING ON THE SHADOW LEAGUE
The story is part of the new Mystic River Shifters. It will have a great cast of characters, including humans and shifters. While you could read this out of order, to fully understand the characters and interactions, it is best if they are read in written order, because it is an ongoing saga. Each story picks up from where the last one left off (especially within the epilogue.) This story will be between Scott and Myra.
Scott is a man with a secret past. He says he is from Canada but some of the phrases and words he uses leave that up in the air. The one thing he is exceptionally good at is being a baker. He also has told Kyra that she is his fated mate—something she vehemently verbally denies—but time will tell the truth. Kyra is the deputy sheriff of Mystic River, working under Sheriff Jax.
The story’s plot will have a call to Scott from a man from his past—and when the man shows up in Mystic River in the Sheriff’s office, he will give a short message to give to the baker. Kyra shares that with Scott but he tries to deny knowing who John Doe is. Even the town Doctor and Kyra’s brother, Colby, are acting strange and secretive.
“The baker. You need to tell him, they’re coming.”
The story is full of mystery, suspense, danger, action adventure, and secrets. Jax and Autumn have gone on their honeymoon now that Kyra has returned from her trip. She tries to get several people to be honest with her, but she knows that is holding onto secrets, and that includes the doctor, Scott, and her brother, Colby. Between the mysterious death of a stranger, and learning that a group that everyone jokes about being the bogeyman is real and that the man she finally is falling for is not whom she believes—you would think Kyra would wash her hands of it all. But Kyra refuses to keep hiding her feelings for Scott and will take a stand against all the alphas of Mystic River—be they friends or foes.
“At what point would she listen to her instinct, her soul, and trust he was where she wanted to be regardless of it that was in Mystic River or not.”

My suggestion would be that you read these books in order. I think this book could be read as a stand-alone, but I feel like there may be things missed that would help to clarify certain situations.
I would say Kyra's nature was prickly at best. My girl was ready to do battle at any given moment with anyone. She had a strong moral compass as well as an equally strong sense of justice.
Normally, if I was reading about a character like Kyra, I would find her behavior to be irritating. I didn't with her, even as she carried that humongous chip on her shoulder. There was a vulnerability about Kyra that kept peaking out.
Scott reluctantly revealing his secrets let me know that he had more in common with his fated mate than I thought. He had the same levels of justice and a moral compass as Kyra did. I don't remember any big hints about Scott having secrets from the previous books.
Scott and Kyra's chemistry started out as an ember before it burst into an inferno. Kyra could no longer deny she and Scott were fated mates.
I did not anticipate the secrets that were being held by others. That was surprising. This book had an underlying tension and level of suspense that ran throughout it pretty consistently.
I started to wonder if all the people that were holding pieces of the secret had information that tied into the Jax, Asher, and Colby situation.
I did not intend to read this book in one sitting. I got caught up in the danger, mystery, intrigue, and suspense. Even knowing that Scott and Kyra were going to end up together took nothing away from trying to figure out how that was going to happen. There were also a couple of things that I did not see coming.
There was still a romantic element with a nice level of heat. The relationships in this series did not rise to the intensity level of the ones in the Wayward Mates series. I would say if those were a little too much for you, this series may be more to your liking. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

There isn't anything I don't enjoy in a book by Delta James. Her characters are always strong, their personalities are perfectly flawed, and the storyline is always so captivating that I've never been able to walk away until a later time after I've started reading. 'Reckless Mate', the third book in her "Mystic River Shifters" series, is definitely not an exception to that rule. As a matter of fact, I think this one exemplifies it. I've been sitting here for at least ten minutes trying to summarize this storyline and can't seem to do it without giving anything away. So, let me say this, the storyline is enticing, the characters are strong, both physically and verbally, the drama is real, and the chemistry is off the chain.

Wow! This shifter book definitely packs action and drama and loads of mystery for sure!
It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire book to see what would happen next!
Scott has been mysterious about his past, but never about Kyra being his fated mate.
The chemistry between these two is amazing and only gets hotter in this book!!
The action and the mystery is ampt up as the book comes to an end.
Scott and Kyra do find their own personal HEA but their is a setup for the next book which I bet will be awesome!

3rd book in the series.
I was gifted this by booksiren for my honest review.
It has wit, charm and intrigue.
He is ex sort of military it's actually called the league, bunch of crackpots is more accurate. Ends up working at a small town running his own bakery where he meets his true mate, needless to say she doesn't at first accept this but eventually comes round.
The intrigue part is that the league is searching for something that Scott doesn't know what they are talking about, you still don't find out so I will need to read future books to find out what they want, it was a great story to read.

Loved this next book in mystic falls! It was more of a slow burn then I've come to expect from Delta but the buildup was worth the wait. Can't wait to see where the new twists and developments take us next!

I felt like most of the book Kyra was still obsessed with Jax. I almost stopped reading when she pulled out his shirt to sleep in. She’s supposed to be Autumn’s friend but then she’s still pinning over Jax. I didn’t really understand why she was so adamantly against Scott, and I didn’t really understand her journey to accepting him. Because of those two reasons I found Kyra unlikeable and Scott to be a weak alpha.

This is the third in the Mystic River series. It's Scott/Ewan and Kyra's book. It had promise but being the third in the series, there were way too many story lines fighting to be addressed. There was Scott & Kyra, Kyra & everyone else, Kyra & Jax, Kyra & Colby, Scott and the Shadow League, Colby & Scott, Colby & the Shadow League, Scott & Graeme & Keith, Mystic River & the Shadow League, Mac Lean Clan & the Shadow League, and Mark & Kyria, Mark & the Shadow League.
Mark is addressed more in the next book but he's popping in & knowing what's going on without context made really no sense and now confuses the beginning of the next book. IMO had the story concentrated on simply Kyra and Scott's story or had the story come in later if all the other story lines needed to remain, it would have been better. As it was, confusion reigned supreme. Things were tossed in that made no sense such as Mark just showing up, Scott saying he was going to deliver a cake and then went home, Scott giving the bad guys clothes, Kyra being a deputy that people respected but really didn't, Kyra telling everyone not to call Jax and then she did etc.
The story between Scott and Kyra wasn't the author's strongest. Kyra being a shifter did a LOT of whining. Scott was an alpha and knew Kyra was his fated mate but acted extremely wimpy. Neither came across as particularly strong especially for who they had been. Scott's brother Graeme is an interesting one and hope he gets his story. Colby needs to man up & the truth needs to be said and relationships mended. The trope has gone on long enough. There was really no fire between the two characters because they acted completely out of character. Once the Shadow League showed up, you thought things would pick up and did a bit but there were secondary characters that made it confusing.
This one did just end abruptly and switched to Mark. The author would have better served the characters by concentrating on their story only and adding in the story lines in other books or creating a second book that really didn't have a new couple. The characters and story lines that randomly popped up and fought for attention were a disservice to Scott & Kyra & the series.

A simply riveting read, Kyra is left minding the falls and a body turns up and then the Shadow League
Kyra has returned after her shooting injury and is left minding the shop while Jax is away on his honeymoon with his new mate and she is ready to deal with anything the town throws at her but could never have foreseen one dead body and the Shadow League.
Kyra investigates into the body that was found in the police station, his final words being to warn the baker that they were coming for him. Scott is the baker and is her Fated Mate and when she begins investigating finds there is a lot more to the man.
Kyra suddenly discovers after talking with the doctor that there are a lot of secrets in Mystic Falls and only certain people are at liberty to the details and it is infuriating her as she knows they affect Scott and she wants to keep him safe.
When the Shadow League a group that she had believed were only a myth are actually real and that when individuals join this group they are in it for life and anyone trying to leave are killed by their brothers, no matter how long it takes or how far they have to travel to find them.
Scott has no option but to hand himself over to them if he is going to keep his mate safe and also his Clowder in Scotland as agreed if he went peaceably. Unfortunately as he is being tortured he realises that they had no loyalty and that when he was dead they would most likely attack his Clowder and his friends at Mystic Falls.
Kyra the love of his life and the woman that would shoot anyone that tried to force her into anything she didn’t want even Colby her brother.
So when she had turned up to save him and refused to go anywhere without leaving him behind,
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

This is the 3rd book in The Mystic River Shifters series and tells the story of Scott and Kyra. They have been strong secondary characters up until now, but I am so happy to finally get the goods on them!! Kyra - our female deputy lynx shifter- is one hard nut to crack. She is determined that she decides who is right for her and Fate has absolutely no say. Yeah, right! Once Scott steps up that alpha male persuasion they are SOOO fond of, she won't stand a chance. That and the fact that they were literally made to accentuate eachother's strengths and bolster weaknesses. Figuring he had time, Scott has played it relatively cool, but his past has found its way to Mystic River. He will not abandon his new home (and Kyra) to fall before his enemies for his actions. No more laying low and playing it cool, all bets are off!
Thrown straight away into a mysterious murder, Kyra must determine the truth. She simply isn't aware of the cost of that information until it is much too late. Her stubborn single-mindedness has cost her, she was just starting to open herself up to new possibilities and they are whisk away from her fingertips. The men in her life are proving to be counterproductive in getting the resolution she seeks, as she doesn't trust them enough to allow their assistance (or interference). It is up to her to make things right.
These two are finally on the same page about something!!! Thrown straight away into a mysterious murder, Kyra must determine the truth. She simply isn't aware of the cost of that information until it is much too late. Her stubborn single-mindedness has cost her, she was just starting to open herself up to new possibilities and they are whisk away from her fingertips. The men in her life are proving to be counterproductive in getting the resolution she seeks, as she doesn't trust them enough to allow their assistance (or interference). It is up to her to make things right.

I love ❤️ this series so much, heart pounding action, amazing characters and thrilling stories. I found Scott to be fascinating & intriguing, strong, kind , loving & supportive of his fated mate Kyra. I love the way he’s so calm and smiles when Kyra refuses to acknowledge their bond, he’s fiercely protective of her. Kyra doesn’t want to need any help or support from anyone. I think Kyra is funny, endearing , strong and determined to be free. She is the town’s deputy & has faced betrayal, heartache and almost died when she was shot protecting a friend.
Scott has a past that wants him dead, an old friend died to warn him trouble was coming. Scotts made me so sad, and my heart hurts for him because he will gladly sacrifice himself to protect Kyra & all they love.
It was terrifying when the Shadow League agents catch Scott & Kyra out on a run, Kyra managed to a distress call & help quickly arrive. To protect the town, Kyra & all they love Scott makes a deal with the Shadow League agent, he will freely go with them, if they will leave the town & people in peace. This is heartbreaking 💔 Kyra is devastated, she will not lose her mate no matter what everyone says she’s determined to get him back. I was so proud of her when she tells everyone that they must improve security for the town & prepare for attacks. She is going to get Scott back, I laughed when she pulled out her shotgun & threatened to shoot anyone who tried to stop her. I love her 😍. I was so excited when Kyra not only finds Scott but they escape, & find a place to hide in safety till they can fight the league again.🥰

This time we get Kyra's love story. Kyra has gone to Seattle to think while she recovers from the bullet wound that almost killed her. She doesn't think the distance from Mystic River has helped her any and it is time to get home and let Jax and Autumn finally go on their honeymoon. She is hoping that everything will be calm in town while Jax is gone - but no such luck. A dying man shows up in the sheriff's office and gives her a message as he dies. It seems her "mate" is hiding something from her and she means to find out what it is.

This was a small town paranormal shifter romance.
I have been waiting for Kyra and Scott's story since starting this series. The story answers many questions but leaves the reader hungry for more. The twists and brilliant story telling will make you a fan of the author. Highly recommend!

This is a very enjoyable shifter romance that had me frantically turning pages trying to find out what would happen next. It is the third book in the Mystic River Shifters series and it can be read as a standalone but I would really suggest reading the series to fully understand the underlying storyline as there are some characters from previous books in this series that make an appearance in this book. The plot is suspenseful with interesting jaw-dropping situations/events and has a slow-burn undertone. The main characters (a male lynx shifter & baker, Scott Hardaway) & (a female lynx shifter & deputy sheriff, Kyra Reynolds) are very unique with their individuality and at times they are inclined to be quite intense with far-reaching plans. The secondary characters play good supporting roles throughout the storyline.
There is: various kinds of shifters, a mysterious group of mercenary shifters (Shadow League), a ruling council, Kyra’s older brother & resident gangster (Colby), a criminal organization, family issues, friendship, fated mates, twists & turns, action, adventure, mystery, suspense, intrigue, secrets, danger, threats, enemies, confrontations, protectiveness, determination, love, contentment, some steamy scenes & a happy conclusion for this couple with a very interesting epilogue. I look forward to the next book in this series with great anticipation & would definitely recommend this book & the series.

Part of the Mystic River Shifters each can be read as a standalone with a sexy shifter and his mate. Scott sexy as all get out exceptional baker with a secret past and know who his fated mate and all he wants is to live a peaceful oh, he isn’t giving up on his girl. Kyra curvy deputy sheriff of Mystic River working with the current sheriff, she is so attracted to the baker but when a stranger comes to town giving the sheriff a cryptic message to the baker “they are coming” but when she tells the Scott, he denies it all. Scott feels the eyes on him, the whispers, and knows the beginning of them but he also knows the more people who know the truth the danger the truth will bring to them although, his girl trying understanding asking for the truth letting her sense of justice guide her but will it get in the way of the two of them the pull between them is so strong it become a leading force her protection or attempt to keep him safe I mean after all she is the sheriff but who is after Scott , will they get to the bottom of all of this, will they be together like they want or will there be secrets between them, but will she stand with him after learning the full truth of why they want him, will they be able to get out of the mess they find themselves in especially realizing those who are supposed to be honorable are so honorable, and can they find happiness away from the craziness?.

Her brother is the local gangster and Scott, the local baker, claims she's his fated mate although she tries to deny that. But something new is going on in town when an unidentified man dies at the jail and it seems she's being lied to when she tries to find answers. Still, she is determined to find out exactly what's going on. Scott came to Mystic River to hide and he pursues his love of baking. As an alpha lynx shifter, he wasn't expecting to find his mate, but lynx shifter, Kyra, is exactly what he wants, and he'll do anything to protect her.
I've really enjoyed this series and this book is no exception. It's well-written with well-rounded characters and a fast-paced plot. This captivating story grabbed me from page one and kept me addicted throughout. This is a paranormal romance with action, intrigue, and suspense and it's an absolute must-read. You'll fall in love with the town, the shifters, and the strong women who are more than a match for their alpha mates. I'm looking forward to the next book and highly recommend both book and series. I loved this new addition to the Mystic River Shifters series. You could read this book as a stand-alone, but I do recommend reading the first two books to understand all the different characters and their motivations in this ongoing series. As of the writing of this review, all books are in KU.

This book by Ms. James has it all. A dose of mystery, danger, secrets, twists and turns and fighting family members. I wanted to savor this story but was pulled right into the lives of the people of Mystic River. One could not deny the raw passion between Scott and Kyra. It was addictive ,but would secrets pull them apart.
Crime in Mystic River was nonexistent until a dying stranger’s last words were to warn Scott he was in danger. Scott was a Lynx shifter and Kyra’s fated mate. Scott’s past made it dangerous for all of the residents of Mystic River. His only option was to go back with the Shadow League and let fate decide his future.
The tether between Kyra and Scott was obvious, but how she struggled. Kyra frustrated me at times, but her recent brush with death left her emotions in a swirl. She did not acknowledge that Scott was her mate until his life was in danger. Was Kyra’s decision to save Scott brave or foolish? Had she left it too late?
I feel that reading the books of this series in order will give you a better
understanding of the characters. I initially had difficulty connecting with Kyra,
but in time, I came to understand why she was so driven. She needed to prove
that she could accomplish everything a man could do and more.

This series just seems to get better with each new title in the Mystic River Shifter series and this one, Reckless Mate is equally hot, mysterious and simply worth the time reading. Again fantastic characters that will leave you wanting more and craving their attention and simply wanting to see them get their HEA's.
Kira, the sheriff deputy finally accepts what has been known by many, that Scott is her fated mate and they are truly meant for each other but like anything there is going to be trouble and issues that will require total acceptance and control to ensure things happen the correct way. Delta James' stories are not for the feint- hearted when it comes to some serious sensuous romance but Ive probably read more erotic moments, but her stories always leave me wanting more and possibly wishing these sorts of alpha-bosses do exist.
I would suggest reading the previous titles in the series to really gain a full understanding of the townships characters and scenarios to get the bigger overall plot of the whole series.

This is the 3rd book in this series. Kyra and Scott have been dancing around their attraction - Kyra more so than Scott - since the first book in this series. Scott know Kyra is his fated mate. Kyra is just too stubborn to realize it. As she fights her inevitable attraction to him, Scott soon finds that his past is coming for him and he may not get the chance to have his HEA. Kyra starts to let down her walls and let her attraction for Scott surface. But before it can become more than a hot and steam one night affair, Scott's past catches up with him and he is separated by distance and soon to be death from his fated mate. As the mystery grows between Scott and his captors/executioners Krya suddenly comes to her senses. She knows he is her fated mate and she will travel across the world to find him again.
This was a very enjoyable addition to this series. I am so happy their got their happy ever after - even if it is a little unconventional.

After she was shot, Scott Hardaway used his tether to keep Kyra alive as he is her fated mate, even though she denies the fact...after Jax's wedding to Autumn, Kyra wanted some time away from Mystic River, so went to Seattle, thinking about what her future may be and maybe should take up offer to become a Mountie...but when returned to Mystic River so Jax could go on his honeymoon, she figured on a dull few days...not an almost dead body in Sheriff's office when she unlocked the door. Her brother wanted her to move back with her home clowder, she refused since he was criminal, and felt when investigating the death that everyone was lying to her, omitting a lot of the truth about the victim, who told her "tell the baker, they are coming for him" before he died. Scott promised not to lie to her, but also didn't tell her much, except he wasn't Canadian and spoke to her in sexy Scottish brogue instead of his carefully crafted Canadian accent...and when "they" came could Scott keep her safe???.

The story is well written and definitely a slow burn. When they get there, though, oh my! Keep a fan nearby; you'll need it! The Hero and heroine are people I can relate to, as only Delta James can create. This book is absolutely worth the one click, and I wait with bated breath for the next book.
