Wow, how can we be on the eighth book of the Silence Jones Action Thrillers series already? I guess it is really a true when people say that times flies when you are having fun. And let me say that I have enjoyed this complete series quite a bit. It is like watching a TV series that gets better and better the longer you watch it. Let me say that it is no different with the latest installment in the series, “Don’t Speak”. It is heavy on the action, adventure, and intrigue. There is rarely a dull moment while listening and one feels a sense of adrenaline flowing while partaking of it. I think that Erik Carter has done an exceptional job of making each story in the series feel unique, but there are themes that run though all of them. One thing that I found very interesting was that a book titled “Don’t Speak” has Silence using his voice more than I recall he has in previous tales. Sneaky how the author did that! None of these stories would have felt as alive and engrossing as to have my favorite narrator at the microphone, Gary Bennett. I know I have said it before, but this is a duo hard to beat when it comes to my listening pleasure. If what I said above interests you, I would recommend you give this audiobook, and the series, a listen.
Silence, returning from a mission which the watchers assigned him, finds himself entoiled in a small town’s affairs that begin to grow at a rapid pace. As with all stories in this series, this one opens with action and mystery. It takes some time before we find Silence walking into this thick mire of events. What I do like is that the author drops in bits and pieces of past events or interactions along the way, so a listener could pick up any of these audiobooks in the series and give them a listen. However, for those who have listened to them in sequential order, these small flashbacks are wonderful reminders allowing one to connect with the events once again. Belonging to a clandestine organization, the Watchers are always doing just that; watching. And in this story, we get a little more detail on how the Watchers react to a supposed agent that has gone rogue. There are so many wonderful tendrils making this story a pleasure to listen to. We get to meet both some newer and older characters along this journey as well. Falcon, Silences direct report, is just as cranky and by the books as one can be. Again, the Watchers are a group devoted to justice, no matter how extreme, for those who have none. Much like Javert from the story of Les Misérables. Little compassion when other are found to have violated the law. However, we do see the dichotomy here as Silence Jones is a man devoted to Justice, but he also has a compassionate side to him as well.
Being a bit more mature (older that is), I always have enjoyed the little pokes at technology in the mid-80s. There are references to floppy disks with secret data, tablets which are precursors to the iPad, and enough raw firepower and testosterone keeping listeners on their toes. One thing that often runs as a theme in all these stories is remembering that nothing ever is what it seems to be. There is always more than what is believed at first glance. Add your standard local thugs and some federal crimes, all happening in your local small-town environment, and you have the basis of this story. Will this be the last we see of Silence? Has he gone too rogue or has his initial debt to the watchers been fulfilled? For this, you will have to give the audiobook a listen. Needless to say, when it comes down to the ends justifying the means, I have a feeling we will see more of Silence in the future. The action is hard and fast, the characters are lively, and the story rather interesting. I like the research that goes into these stories, and the technology and weapons needed to complete the goal. We did have a bit more of CeCe’s input as this story unraveled and I enjoyed his continued faithfulness and desire to have her in his life. It is the only thing that continues to tie him to his old self. What at first glance feels like a stone-cold killer, Silence has an emotional side, which often gets him in trouble along the way.
Narration of this audiobook was wonderful. The audio quality was flawless and the character voicing top notch. Just as the author writes in a clever way, the narration also contains some of those subtle elements that make it unique for the listener. I felt sorry for Mr. Bennet as he had to voice more of Silence in this audiobook which I’m sure can give you a sore throat if done too often. I find that I enjoy these audiobooks even more when a great narrator is there to enhance the story for me.
For parents and younger listeners, I still have to say that this audiobook, along with the others in the series, are meant for more mature listeners only. It contains some adult language and content as well as quite a bit of graphic violence and situations that may not be appropriate for younger audiences.
In summary, if you like clever action tales along with super high-quality narration, I cannot say enough for these two and the series. I like to often indulge and listen to large portions of the story when time permits. I often find myself not wanting to stop listening when life gets in the way. I would say that these are a sign of a good audiobook and one that I would recommend to others.

Silence is drawn into local matters, despite the warning of his prefect, when he stops off at a diner for breakfast in a small town called Malvern in Arkansas. This was after the dumping of the body of a young man on his mother's front lawn as a warning for asking too many questions. When a group of men start going off on the boy's ex-stepfather, Silence steps in to break things up and soon it becomes clear that something is off about this small town.
Cue an intriguing story of counterfeit money, money laundering, sex abuse, corrupt police, a mysterious Columbian, a mysterious foreigner who works for Lemarr and a town cowered in fear of a man called Royce Lemarr. Silence soon gets into the middle of things and as usual, there's a lot of action, violence and basically a story of right versus wrong with Silence determined to make things right and find the dead boy's missing girlfriend. A truly riveting read that once you start, you won't want to put down. I love this series and look forward to each new instalment and this was no exception. Roll on book 9.

Another awesome thriller
Starting right off with a tense action scene; that got my heart right in it and my adrenaline pumping. I love Silence as the main character he has a good heart and has fine tuned the art of being perfect interviewer and being an awesome assassin. This newest book, Silence finds himself in a small town that is run by corrupt cops and businessmen; everyone who lives there is under the thumb of powerful players with no way to fight back. The ones who do pay a high price. Silence seems goes a bit off the main track he is told to follow and goes from being the hunter to the hunted. Another great read that kept me fully engaged from beginning to end as the twists keep turning. Highly recommend to read this stand alone story. I received this book for free and voluntarily reviewed.

What does an assassin do with his down time On his drive home after completing an assignment Silence decides to stop at a brick museum. When he finds it closed he decides to stay overnight. That’s all it takes before he’s drawn into mystery of two missing teens!
I love these books. Silence is a complex yet simple character! He’s a man of contradictions he’s tough when he needs to be but can be gentle when the situation calls for it. He delivers justice to those who the law failed. He is a larger than life man. I love all the action and drama be sorts through so effortlessly. This time the protagonists are truly evil. He saves a family and a whole town. He even gets to work with a fellow company assassin! I highly recommend this high octane book and this fantastic author!

Silence Jones is an assassin working behind a curtain no one knows about. On his way driving home from his last assignment he detours to Little Rock for a healing day in the spa. As he leaves he comes to a small town with a brick making museum. Since he wasn’t in a hurry he decided to see the museum. As he slowly drives through this small town he notices that in the windows of most of the stores there is a sign that says “cash only”. Seems odd to him in this age of debit cards and pay by phone. He soon becomes embroiled in a murder mystery. To make matters worse he finds out another assassin is now after him. With an awesome cast of characters, non stop action/intrigue/mystery and a brilliant storyline you will NOT be able to put this one down !

Love this series and this book is one of my favorites. Suspenseful, page turner, and twists you don't see coming. A road trip home from Silence's last assignment turns into what he is explicitly told not to do, "stay out of local matters". What is exactly going on in this small town in Arkansas? Can he resist the temptation to help and defy his Perfect? What will the organization do, if he defies their orders? Must read to find out! You won't be disappointed. Recommend. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary honest review.

This is a great series about a deadly assassin who works for a shadow organisation that right the wrongs of the justice system. In this story Silence is passing through a small town to visit a museum but there's something wrong about the town and soon Silence is neck deep in trouble in what is an excellent and exciting story with a shocking revelation near the end. Loved it.

Very realistic and interesting characters. Fast-paced plot that kept me thoroughly engaged throughout. Suspenseful and thrilling! Enjoyed every page of it!

I have read every book in the series and I think this was one of the best. Silence is a soft-hearted tough guy in a hard exterior. Amazing how the author can get the reader to root for an assassin. Highly recommended. Can probably be read as a standalone, but if you haven't read the earlier ones, read those, too.

I just loved 'Didn't Speak'! I was totally engrossed from the first page onward. I have a lot of admiration for Silence's character and for what he does, in the name of justice. He really does not have an easy life. Anyone who loves a good thriller should read this book. It truly deserves five stars.

Still A Good Series
All of these stories in the series keep you riveted until the very end. That’s why it’s so easy to read them in one sitting. My only complaint that I’ve mentioned before is that I really do wish he would move on from his murdered fiancé, but then again, maybe the author wants that to stay an intrinsic part of Silence’s personality.

Brilliant as always
The Silence books never fail. This one is as brilliant as always, and Silence continues to be a totally engaging character. The action is non-stop and the twists and turns keep you reading. Already can't wait for the next one.

These tales of vigilante justice just keep getting better. Absolutely packed with action and suspense. Silence Jones is the perfect vigilante assassin, righting wrongs where the justice system has failed, he is both totally ruthless and surprisingly compassionate. Great reading.
