In Vakeeli, trust will get you killed…

After being betrayed by one of the few people he trusts, Caz has become a prisoner in his own mind. For once, he can’t work his way out of a deadly situation…but with a mate like Willow, there’s always a way.

With an ancient, powerful being like Decius, Willow has her work cut out for her, and after working with an old friend to cast a powerful portal spell, she winds up on Earth…with Caz at her side. But just because they’re on Earth doesn’t mean they’re safe. Though weaker, Decius still has the power to haunt them, and he will not stop until he has Caz in his clutches again…even if that means killing every single member of Caz’s Blackwater clan.

With lives on the line and the clock ticking, the tethered couple must use earthly resources to find a way back to Vakeeli—without encountering Decius—so they can wake the Regal Selah and have her kill him for good. As they take this new journey, they’ll soon discover that not all Vakeeli history is true. Just as there are evil beings out to tarnish their Cold Tether, there are noble forces willing to aid them, and they go by the names Korah and Hassha, two Regal goddesses with more power in their pinkies than Decius will ever have.

Caz and Willow only have one shot at a peaceful life. With Decius out of their way, they’ll be able to live freely as soulmates and without their Cold Tether in jeopardy. But as with any bold decision to work with powerful people, there are buried secrets and grueling consequences to face…and they’ll soon find out that Decius was only the start of their problems.

Wicked Ties is the heart-pounding, romantic, and gut-wrenching second installment of The Tether Trilogy.

4.5 ✨✨✨✨✨

Shanora has done it again! I wanted more of Caz’s backstory and boy did we get it!! I love that this book picked up on that dreadful cliffy we ended Vicious Bonds with. Caz and Willow are so intense and I am here for it! Adult romantasy at its finest! Shanora’s writing ages like a fine wine. I highly recommend the audio yall. Shane East and Aure Nash are magnificent as they work together to weave such an exquisite spellbinding tale. I can’t wait for book 3!!

Might Not Stick Around for the Third…

I think I’ve had my fill of this series. It’s not particularly bad, it’s quite mundane and drawn out to me, for the most part. It highlights a few of the reasons I hate books told in the first person narrative as well. If you constantly begin your sentences with “I” I am going to get irritated. Several of the sentences followed that pattern. “I cracked his skull against my fist.” “I watched the blood run down his face.” “I felt powerful in that moment.” - these are not verbatim quotes from the book, but my point is made. Sentences consistently started with “I” and in succession of each other. It reads juvenile and demonstrates a lack of creative writing on author’s part.

I felt no connection with any of the characters and could not wait for the story to end- only to learn that the story is a trilogy. That being said, I have very little interest in reading the third book. I’m satisfied with ending my journey here. Which is most unfortunate because the story had potential, which is why I continued after the first and believed Ms. Williams would fix the issues several readers and myself had with the first book. That seemed not to be the case and the story got even longer and more long winded.

While I’m gracefully checking out, it’s not a terrible unreadable material, so it gets 3 stars.

Another fun ride The Tether Trilogy. I think this one was better than the first, putting it in 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ territory.

PLOT
Caz & Willow made it to earth but that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily safe. Nor does it mean forever. They’ve got to evade Decius & his bargain, navigate Caz on a whole new planet, figure out how to return to the family, & figure out what happened to Willow’s brother. This book has
- mating bonds
- multiverse, familiars, gods & goddesses
- medium spice
- dual audiobook

PROS
- Caz on earth was pretty amusing overall.
- Caz & Willow’s bond strengthening was pretty fun to witness.
- Loved the island of women! That was such a fun expansion of the world.
- The spice definitely spices. *fans self*
- I like how the politics are playing out with the council now. I find that more interesting of a plotline than Decius (not that the Decius plot is bad at all but I tend to love politics so that’s a me thing).

CONS
- The same as book 1 there’s just something missing for me to be obsessed. I am enjoying myself but also don’t feel the need to dive into the next book necessarily. I could save it for when I’m in a slump & need something familiar to pull me out.

Overall this is def a fun romantasy trilogy

You must read Vicious Bonds before reading Wicked Ties. This is Book 2 of a trilogy and ends on a cliffhanger.

Oooo I couldn’t wait to be back with Caz and Willow after the cliffy in Vicious Bonds. Caz and Willow are in more danger and need answers they’ll have to go to great lengths to find. Now that these two have accepted their bond, I enjoyed seeing them rely on each other, especially Caz. He’s not used to being vulnerable, but Willow is his home, and the love between them was so natural.

I can’t say too much about their journey in this book without spoiling it. Just know we get more information about key players in Vakeeli as well as some history that must be understood for Caz and Willow to figure out how to safely be together one day.

I’m not sure how I’m gone wait for the third and final book, but after this cliffhanger, I just KNOW things are REALLY about to get interesting!

Absolutely loved it! Even more than Vicious Bonds- book 1. This one picked up right where book 1 ended. It's fast pace with lots of action and lots of spice. What I really loved though, was that the plot was original and unpredictable! I can't wait for book 3! Happy reading!!

Shanora is killing us softly in this epic love story of good and evil. Caz and Willow are back.
“After being betrayed by one of the few people he trusts, Caz has become a prisoner in his own mind.

But as with any bold decision to work with powerful people, there are buried secrets and grueling consequences to face…and they’ll soon find out that Decius was only the start of their problems.”

This story is fire and well worth the buy! You’ll fall in love again with Caz and Willow as they go through every twist and turn to have a peaceful life. Highly recommend!

I enjoyed this! It was better than the 1st book, which almost never happens.

The cave scene was HOT! 🥵

Loved the found family situation! There wasn't much advancement of the plot BUT there was much more romance and building a real relationship and reasons for the MCs to love each other outside of the tether, which was a complaint I had with the 1st book.

I really wanted to love this book but it just didn’t reach its full potential. There’s still things I enjoyed about it and I will probably finish the trilogy but there are certain things that really take a book that could’ve been 4.5/5 stars down to a generous 3 stars.
Stakes:
When it comes to fantasy (especially trilogies) there’s this balance that’s struck between writer and reader. We as readers know/assume for the most part the main characters are for the most part safe from dying especially since we know there are more books coming but the author by design would want to remove the readers comfort in that assumption. This book just didn’t do that, there’s a lot of action or tense scenes in fantasy books and for the most part that tension lies in the stakes of the situation. The main character is at risk of losing their life or failing this mission or not being able to save their loved one etc. However very early in the book we fall into this pattern where whenever Caz and Willow are in dire strains something or someone will randomly come out of the woodworks and do a big thing to save the day. And don’t get me wrong that’s not a bad plot device and works well to introduce new characters however when it’s constantly happening it takes away from the stakes in these scenes, the reader is never truly wondering is someone going to get hurt or is something bad going to happen but rather just waiting for the inevitable Hail Mary moment that will come out of nowhere and neatly fix things. It makes the story a bit boring less exciting and in my personal opinion takes away from the story telling in a way.

The other thing is somewhat of a follow up on stakes; build-ups.
When it comes to fantasy books and trilogies there are often various paths introduced at certain times that you know will come up again. The dangerous area they mention in the first book that no one ever goes to ends up being the very location of the final in the second book etc. and that’s a great plot device it keeps the audience guessing and speculating. However what happens in this book is thjngs are built up to be so dangerous or difficult only to be resolved in a chapter or less. For example, The Trench is made out to be this dangerous area in Valkeeli that no one can enter and come out of alive, so much so that even Caz is terrified of it. So in this book when Willow and Caz have to go there it feels like a big moment that could be filled with tense moments or action packed scenes. Only for them to go in and out of the trench in about a chapter and a half with only one incident that barely made a dent. It was honestly almost comical Caz makes this huge deal of getting basically an army to go with them into the trench only for it to be less eventful than their first trip to Vanora! This is supposed to be the most dangerous area in Valkeeli, no one is known to be able to go in and escape and Caz makes it look like light work, it diminishes all the build up and lore we’ve heard through the first and second book. And it once again lowers the stakes it felt like yet another reminder that no matter what everything will be ok, which isn’t in and of itself a bad thing but it doesn’t serve the plot or the characters development at all, and it made the book overall a less exciting read.

Lastly, character motivations/development.
I really like that we have two main characters in this series but it felt like this book Willow was left behind. The thing about having two main characters is you need to treat them both like they’re main characters, even if one of them is driving plot more if the other is always present they still need a full development. We got a lot of Caz’s backstory this book which made sense given the plot however Willows backstory is still a little murky which would be fine if it was serving a larger purpose a later reveal or fanning tension or suspense but it’s not. Warren is introduced in this book and by the time him and Willow reunite it feels like we know the barest minimum about their relationship and history which is fine but even after they reunite it’s never delved into beyond a dialogues here and there that feels more like a footnote. In my opinion in this book Willow is relegated to a side character who’s development can’t exist without Caz and that’s frustrating because it feels like there’s more to her. Both Caz and Willow have dark pasts in different ways and we met them when they were in the midst of unhealthy behaviors but it feels like there’s no substance to Willow’s past, almost like it simply exists so that we can say it’s there but Caz’s story is the one with real substance and draw. This book also felt like we saw the characters doing things that went against themselves. There are so many things that Caz and Willow are just not dealing with currently and that feels out of character. Caz says multiple times in this book that he doesn’t trust the regals and he knows they’re lying to him but is ok with them taking Decius and assuming that they’ve put him away somewhere and hasn’t asked a single question about it. People keep telling Caz he’s special and hinting that he might have powers but as he gets ready to be sent to a literal fire island he doesn’t look into the whole powers thing or his bloodline and what it means at all, even though multiple people keep alluding that it could help him fight his enemies. Literally almost all of willows backstory is a hint that something is a miss but anytime warren or anyone else brings it up Willow thinks about it for a few seconds only to go back to the we’ll deal with it later I just want to be happy. And this seems small but it bothered the living daylights out of me, when Caz was chasing Decius into the forest they knew he couldn’t kill him he was only going to render him weak and unconscious until they could wake up the regal who could kill him but there’s still a big moment where Willow says to Caz “go kill the bastard” HE LITERALLY CANT AND YOU KNOW THAT WHY WOULD SHE SAY THAT!

I don’t want to go on to much more because I didn’t hate the book I just thought it had so much more potential and fell flat, which is why this review is so in-depth this could’ve been a great book but it falls somewhere between ok and slightly bad. I hope book three gives us much more Willow or if she is relegated to a side character make that more known so the full focus can be Caz.

This was a great sequel and I loved the plot progression. I love the interracial relationship between Willow and Caz. There is quite a bit of spice and I loved every scene. Caz can whisper filthy things to me anytime. The magic and world building is more flushed out in this book. I loved all the craziness, and Faye is definitely a real one. The end had me gagged and I need to know what happens.

I absolutely freaking love when a dark fantasy romance transports me to an entirely new and exciting and dangerous world but at the same time the angst and the heartache and the passion plays the main role throughout. the book. And that's why Wicked Ties by shanora Williams is such an epic read for me. Caz and Willow have my heart in their palms. I am so addicted and obsessed and downright crazy for their journey. This book made me fall harder and harder. Sinful. Exhilarating. Jaw dropping. Soul wrecking. Just perfection.

This is book 2 of trilogy and you have to read in order. We left Caspian Hollow, the monarch of Blackwaters, at a dying stage when his power was sucked by Mournwrath aka Decius aka the person he trusted once but who exposed himself to be the devil feared and hated by the whole realm of Vakeeli. His Cold Tethered mate, Willow won't let him go so easily. So starts a quest to beat the all powerful evil. Even if Caz comes back from the mouth of death and manages to save his family for now..Decius is too powerful to stay contained for long.

This story has such an enticing nature that sucks me in immediately from the first page. Vakeeli has so many layers and the author has created so many facets of this world. Dangers, violence and deception run deep everywhere but even in middle of these, the Blackwater clan remains a show of loyalty, love, strength and compassion. I was on edge of my seat all the time. I stopped breathing so many times. All my nails are gone. Because the twists never stop coming. Each time I feel Caz and Willow are out in the clear, Decius comes with something sinister. Prepare to lose yourself in the land of monsters, monarchs, magic, madness, misery, memories..

Becoming obsessed with a hero was never easier. A man so tormented and haunted by his tragic past. A man who believes he has done bad things and doesn't deserve anything pure or happy. A man who carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. A man who is so in control, so ruthless, so edgy yet when it comes to love, he is scared and lost. How can I not love Caz? That's why I adore Willow even more. She was thrown into this unknown world that tries to end her and her mate constantly but she is so brave to face it all for her man. She is fierce and stubborn and courageous..sometimes even more than the monarch himself. Caz can go into this dark hole many times letting the grief and anger and pain consume him. But Willow pulled him out everytime. She is his strength. Their soul are connected and the way the author takes me right in the middle of the emotional mess is just beautiful. Their Tether is being tested. Truths and lies are coming out. And I am so afraid of what is waiting for them as I feel the worst is yet to come but I believe they will conquer every battle together, just with some scars.

***Received ARC for honest review***

This book picks up after a cliffhanger from book one and ends on a cliffhanger so say too much about the plot of this book but I will say that this book is about Caz and Willow trying to eliminate the threat to their relationship.

Wow! This romantasy just keeps getting better and better and I can't wait for the next book! Don't be intimidated by the size of this one, it will have you laughing, swooning, gasping, on the verge of tears, and sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next.

The story gets more interesting.

This was a good addition to the story. I won’t say much about the plot as I don’t want to give it away, but the story moves along and we learn more about what’s going on and we’re also given more questions. Also everyone’s relationships are growing and it was fun to have those moments with Caz and Willow and Caz, Willow and the Monarch Clan.

Now one thing that did bug me is Willow wanting to tag along to dangerous situations and almost always needing someone to save her. I understand she’s not as violent as the people of Vakeeli, but at some point I wanted to shake her.

This book is a little long. The story was good but there were a few slow moments. This also could’ve just been me trying to read this book during a busy time. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Overall a good read, and I’m ready for the next book and to see how this story ends.

I didn't want to over hype this series as I felt my review for the first book may have been a little too hyped. BUT-
THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY AND (LITERALLY) FIRE!
Shanora girl!!!!! WHAT!!??? Well done! I genuinely don't know who to trust. How will she tie all these loose ends?? I have never felt so inclined to immediately move on to the next book in a series.
The MMC, Caz, is sooooo troubled and when he cries, we ALL cry.
Dare I say, LGBT supremacy?? YES, YES, YES!!!
This one definitely proved my theory that we should eradicate all men with bad intentions, haha!

Although I will say the has waaaay too many grammatical errors and misspelled words, but I digress.

Wowza! What a ride this story took us on. The creativity that this author has to write such a unique story is intriguing to say the least.

Picking up right where we left off at the ending of Vicious Bonds (The Tether Trilogy #1), which you must read prior to jumping into this one.

Willow and Caz are a couple that have me wanting more with each page I read. The tether they share is enough to pull a reader in who is not used to reading this genre. They truly are meant for each other.

Korah and Hassha, two Regal goddesses are certainly two women that you do not want to mess with! Between the two, their powers are off the chart. Fingers crossed they are able to help Willow's twin brother!

Can not wait to have the final book in my hands! It will be interesting to see how this all wraps up.

I think this book was just too long. The pacing was off. There were moments when I was super engaged in the story while other times I was left wondering, “now what does this have to do with anything?!” The characters became boring to me to the point that I was annoyed by them. I wasn’t even sure I would finish this book but I did. Some of the scenes were so outlandish (which I know is a tool often used in a fantasy/romantasy novel) but let’s be for real! Not sure if I’m going to continue the series or not.

If you haven't read Vicious Bonds (The Tether Trilogy #1), you absolutely must. Wicked Ties picks off right where book 1 left off. Even if you have read it, I recommend doing a quick re-read/refresher. I wish I did because I read it last February and still needed a minute to wrap my head around this world again.

Just like the first book, the vibes here are immaculate. I vaguely remember being surprised that Shanora Williams' didn't write dark romance/fantasy books prior to this series. If you enjoyed The Cruel Prince / Peaky Blinders, etc. you will eat this book up. Caz and Willow are everythingggg. I'm not even gonna lie, sometimes Fated Mates gets too fluffy and tedious for me. I get bored once the love interests are together and (somewhat) happy, I can't help it! 🫢 But something about Caspian Harlow has me turning in my feminism card. 😮‍💨

We learn more about his backstory and get even more Caz/Willow in book 2. I think 3 books was the perfect amount of books for this series. I can't wait for the epic conclusion!! If you must, binge this series on Kindle Unlimited now!! *book 2, like book 1, does end in a cliffhanger

2.5 ⭐️

I hate that I have to rate this book so low, but I just can't justify giving it a higher rating. This book DRAGGED. The way they took out Decius was anticlimatic. The way Warren appeared in the book was also anticlimatic. They made such a huge fuss about how dangerous the Trench was, and they were in and out like nothing 💀 I didn't grow any attachments to any of the characters in this book. I don't know, im really struggling, and I don't want to read the third book, but I can't leave this series without knowing how it's gonna end.

About the ending, I guessed it was Selah right after the last chapter started. When Korah & Hassha were talking about how dangerous she was, it kind of took away the impact of the scene that was about to unfold. I even guessed that she was gonna say, "Hello sisters." 💀 I just want to see how this is gonna play out now. im really hoping the third book is gonna be better than this one.
