In this book, the author recounts adventures in Italy, a country she had grown to love. The author started taking friends on tours in Italy and she recounts visits to hill towns, cities, seashores and mountains. Since she had no idea of how to lead a tour, there are incidents of less than fun getting lost, tour members wandering off on their own, but along the way, we learn the history of different regions, we meet the Italian people who live in these areas, we go to markets and learn to prepare wonderful Italian food in tiny kitchens. As we walk along on the cobblestone streets with the author and her friends, we can feel the love of Italy that eminates throughout the book. The author also recounts her experiences of traveling solo, and tells us of her love of the country, in a way to ensure the reader feels the love of Italy and will feel the pull to travel to the amazing country as well.
Since I am the author of this book, I have a vested interest in promoting it. I feel that anyone who has ever traveled to Italy or has plans to visit Italy will find the book fun to read, told from the viewpoint of the author, who stumbled into the position of becoming a tour guide for her friends. The story tells about historic places in Italy, about food and wine, about the people, the festivals, train and bus rides and the the love of Italy the author experienced from her first visit to the fabulous country.
Reading about Dolly’s travels in Italy made me happy just like the book title. I enjoyed reading about her favorite places and looking forward to exploring some of them….especially the Dolomites. Highly recommend reading it.
I found this book to be more like a diary of someone’s travels to Italy, Rather boring at times and lacked history of the country. I would not recommend this book.
