Harborside Secrets #4

The Faceless Killer

Rate this book
“I warned you not to come back, Carlee… Stay away or suffer the consequences.”

Private investigator Carlee Knight is sure of one thing: someone is hunting her. And with every passing moment, the shadow of their knife looms closer than ever before.

But Carlee is no stranger to being hunted—or to being a hunter. She’s been on a quest for vengeance ever since her quaint lakeshore hometown was gutted by a vicious child-killer. Over a decade later, she’s still determined to take down her beloved twin brother’s murderer.

Now that Carlee is stirring up dead classmates’ ghosts back in Harborside, she must face the harsh truth. Because it’s looking more and more like her most treasured childhood memories might be nothing more than a cauldron of poisonous lies… and every friendly face may hide a deadly enemy.

As Carlee chases the elusive Eighth-Grade Killer of her past, she is also pulled into her most dangerous case yet. An accountant wakes from a six-year coma after a hit-and-run “accident” that almost killed her… and discovers it may have been anything but an accident.

Bodies pile up around Carlee as she probes the high-power boardrooms and seedy back alleys of Chicago for answers.

The pursuit of justice throws her into a corporate circus of multimillion-dollar secrets, lethal toxins, and life-or-death blackmail. And this time, the conspiracy runs deeper than she could have ever imagined.

The Faceless Killer is the fourth book of Katy Pierce’s gripping psychological thriller series, Harborside Secrets, where a dark secret lurks beneath every smile, and no bloody stone is left unturned.

I just finished this, the fourth book in the series, and yet again, I’m left on the edge of my seat while I download the fifth book. Carlee’s stalker seems to be getting closer and closer, becoming more brazen with each new threat. As with the previous books, I was turning pages as fast as possible, having a hard time finding a good stopping point. My mantra became “just one more chapter,” which didn’t really work.

I’m still enjoying the journey with Carlee as she pursues the 8th Grade Killer, all the while stopping other baddies with the help of detective Zack and Agent Ian. I can’t wait to see how it all ends!!

Is Carlee losing it?

The Faceless Killer picks up where the Two Faced Killer ended. After waking up from a six year coma, Candice Harkness comes to Carlee claiming the person who hit her six years ago did so on purpose. Carlee decides to look into the case and let’s her know she will get back with her.
It appears Carlee may be having trouble with her memory because she accuses FBI agent Ian Garnett of meddling in her business when he hands her a file on Candice. Ian informs her when he offered his help she accepted it. Is Carlee having memory problems due to the stress of her job or is the Eighth Grade Killer getting to her?
Carlee and her secretary, Eleanor, are also having issues. Carlee feels like Eleanor is treating her like a child. Along with Eleanor and Ian, Carlee is giving Zack a hard time. Will she realize that she is pushing them away?
The Eighth Grade Killer is still sending threatening messages which is causing Carlee stress. Her problems seem to be getting the better of her. Carlee meets with her father and it doesn’t go well. He has a medical emergency during that meeting. Will Carlee and her father set aside their differences?
How many people will die before Carlee, Ian and Zack find the killer or killers? Is the Eighth Grade Killer getting closer to Carlee? What does he have in store for her? If you want drama, action, suspense, twists and turns this book is for you. The ending ends in a big what the heck is happening now!

THE FACELESS KILLELR picks up where the Two Faced Killer ended and the fourth installment in the Harborside Secrets series by Katy Pierce. Get ready for another well-written, page turning, and complicated murder mystery thriller that will keep you reading and guessing to the surprise ending.

After waking up from a six year coma, Candice Harkness has turned to PI Carlee Knight to find out who tried to kill her six years ago and who is following her now. The frantic pace of her last three cases plus this new one are pushing Carlee's stress levels off the charts.  She's at odds with the few friends she has, hasn't been thinking clearly with her temper flaring out of control. Is she on the way to a burn-out?

The Faceless Killer is thrilling and fast paced with a great plot. There are so many suspects and most of them are lying and some are very weird and messed up characters.

Through all this the 8th Grade Killer is still stalking her and even started stalking friend and CPD Detective Zach.

I did receive a copy from the author and this is my honest and freely given review. And now I'm waiting to finding out what is waiting for Carlee in Harborside.

This is an ARC read and new author for me. I really enjoyed this book and all the twists and turns it took to get to the end of the mystery of who killed a woman names Candice. Carlee is a Private Investigator and friends with an FBI agent and a Chicago Police Detective. Carlee is continuing to work on an old case that involves her and her family, when a case of a woman, Candice, who had come out of a 6 year coma and then within weeks was dead. As Carlee works out why Candice died she finds clues leading Candice's former boss and the Russian mob. Then another employee of the firm is murdered. Was his death part of the same mob connection or was it something else. As Carlee, Ian (FBI), and Zach (CPD) work this case to an end, Carlee gets another note reminding her of her involvement in the Eighth Grade Murder case.

Carlee is back and immediately into a new case while still trying to solve the serial killer case that forever changed her life. The current case has violence, high stakes, missing people and takes several different twists that includes loan sharks and the Russian mob. While this case is full steam ahead the cold case is picking up steam with the killers POV showing he is following Carlee, her friends showing concern and one heck of a cliffhanger! The friendships and relationships also face new developments with the showdown between her and her dad and some serious talks with friends about respect and trust. A quick read a great addition to the series!

The cliffhanger has so many questions for me: 1) is that to cast blame/set Carlee up? 2) is there more to her relationships with Ian or Zack? 3) what did the diary mean?

Wow this is a superb fast paced thriller. The best in the series. Katy created amazing emotional characters in Carlee Zach and Ian. I loved not only twisty plot and scary moments, that made me read to the wee hours, but also the deep emotions Carlee went through . It remained me of all of us humans. How we perceive and get mistaken. I love Carlee and care deeply about her. I wanted the store to never end. We’ll surprise surprise. There is a huge I say huge cliffhanger at the end. Omg I cannot wait for the next book. Katy you torture us nicely viciously and unexpectedly ! Bravo Lida

Katy Pierce has outdone herself in book 4 of the Harborside Secrets series. The Faceless Killer is captivating, intense, chilling and a definite page turner.
Carlee Knight is brilliant, a tech genius and feisty as they come. She doesn’t always work well with others and can be downright obnoxious. You can’t help but love her.
I know you will enjoy this book as Carlee fights for justice for her client. Family relationships are part of this book as well. And always where is the Eight Grade killer…can we say cliffhanger!!!

This series is getting better and better the more you get involved in it (but you really do need to read them in order). Like always there are two plots - the overarching plot re the 8th grade killer (which is starting to heat up) and the investigation. Like to say a further sub plot with the relationship between the three main characters which is also starting to heat up. More and more of the back story is coming out.

This was fast paced and an easy afternoon read.

I was given an advance copy by the author but the review is entirely my own.

When a woman comes to Carlee with a mysterious case of who was the driver of the hit and run that put her in a coma for 6 years. Candace is looking for answers but before Carlee can meet with her to start the investigation, Candace comes up missing.
Carlee begins questioning her forgetfulness as either stress or exhaustion. She heads back to her hometown not realizing she has been followed and is being watched.
This was an exciting continuation of Katy Pierce's series and I cannot wait for the next book. I enjoy Katy's Mysteries.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

The Faceless Killer

The Faceless Killer is another good book by Katie Pierce. We keep building up the suspense with every book. Carole, Ian and Zack are proving to be a dynamic force to be reckoned with. If the men can control their jealousy of each other they can solve these murders. Katy Pierce is proving to be an excellent mystery writer. Right up my alley. I am loving her books.

Carlee's client doesn't show up for the meeting she asked for. That's one mystery. The Eighth Grade Killer keeps leaving messages and evades every security camera available, the original mystery.
Ian and Zack keep tearing Carlee in two directions, but both sure help her in their own way. I kind of like the three when they coordinate.  The dynamics are interesting.
Great storyline.

The Faceless Killer(Haborside Secrets Book 4)

OMG!!!!!!!!!! I loved this book, it was very suspenseful and exciting. You just never knew where trouble was coming from. I think the eight- grade killer has been messing with Olivia, been moving stuff around and maybe drugging her. I don't know yet, but I am sure I will find out in the next book, I can't wait.

Wow, for some reason, I had a hard time with this one. Much too slow and menial. It definitely didn’t match the stamina and excitement of the first book, which was really why I had continued with this series. Truthfully, the rest of these books have been too disappointing. Dare I try to read the next book in this series?

Carlee is still chasing the Eighth Grade Killer, among others. A young woman begs her to find out who was behind an accident that put her in a coma six years ago, but then all hell breaks loose. Where will this case take Carlee and her friends?
