Uka's high school life has really taken off...but seeing Kai rush to his ex-girlfriend's aid brings her crashing down to earth! After all, why wouldn't he? Serina is beautiful, strong, and popular—the total opposite of Uka—so it's only fitting that he'd come to her rescue. Still, if Uka's learned anything from Kai, it's to give everything her best shot—such as volunteering to lead the class's upcoming culture festival preparations! The only problem is, does a shy introvert like her truly have what it takes to corral a bunch of rowdy, uncooperative high schoolers?

"I make a lot of mistakes and I misunderstand many things. But I believe that this is where I belong."

Kai is officially out of the doghouse with me!

When the previous volume ended with Uka being slapped and him seemingly walking off with his ex-girlfriend, I was SO upset! Like he didn't even ASK Uka if she was okay!! But this volume he voiced things I had really wanted at the end of volume two and was so relieved because I am loving this series, but was afraid his actions would turn me away from enjoying it.

I continue to deeply admire how Uka is continuing to step out of her comfort zone despite that Kai and some of her classmates don't say the nicest of things. Thankfully though, they have all come around and seen how truly amazing she is and how hard she is trying. I will clarify though that Kai doesn't usually say unnice things about her but is more just SUPER blunt. There is one scene specifically that happened that I agree with a classmate in that what he said was super harsh! However, some of his final words stunned his classmates to silence because it was powerful and touching (as it always with Uka <3). He really does help Uka feel seen and unknowingly (and knowingly) pushes her to give her all.

One of the themes of this volume is that her and Kai are from two different worlds and in two different worlds. However there is a scene near the end that I feel deeply reflects the growth that Uka is making in that she feels they may be from two different worlds and are in two different worlds, but her world is still bright. Cue happy crying.

I'm continuing to really love this series! The art is stunning and breathtaking as always, but it is VERY satisfying and rewarding seeing Uka grow and "go with the flow." It's not a quick story and appreciate that we're able to see all the small and big progressions of her fulfilling her dream as a high schooler who is having fun. <3

Excited to see the cultural festival unfold next volume!! Eeeepp!

Kai likes Uka, Uka likes Kai. Story would normally be over, except Uka can’t stand Uka still. Yet change is in the air, both good and bad, as everybody thinks Kai should get back with his old girlfriend, Serina, and Uka tries to step way out of her comfort zone.

Its characters may not make the smartest decisions, but this is one sharp manga and I love how it does a lot of different stuff within the shojo genre staples while still being very firmly in that genre in terms of style and narrative.

Kai especially is, minus one instance, not Uka’s saviour, which I really like. So many stories like this kneecap their heroine by making her get rescued constantly without achieving anything except being a damsel (*cough*Maid-sama*cough*), but Uka is the architect of her own destiny.

Now, whether that is down to Kai’s planning or his general ennui is a whole other question, but I like the hints of something deeper running under his superficial-seeming surface when he tells Uka plainly that she’s the one whose judgement he trusts.

I also really like the scene where he has to describe Uka in a word and he provides a litany of both her good and bad points. That’s really kind of special because the way he likes her as a whole person and not just her good sides is important. He doesn’t just see her, he knows her.

There’s also the whole thing with Serina, who looks stunning as part of a matching set with Kai, and whose presence constantly undermines Uka’s confidence as she tries to raise herself to Kai’s level. Serina is not thrilled with her popularity and the way the cast keep throwing her and Kai together is kind of awful, especially for Kai.

I love how the story handles Serina, since she is not a rival, just an ex, and she and Uka are friends. There’s a lot of hay about how she and Uka followed similar paths with Kai, but the difference here is that Kai’s interested in Uka, not Serina, which is pretty key.

I guess we’re also going to talk about that teacher, yikes. When he first lurches onto the scene you’d be forgiven for thinking we might suddenly change to Daylight Shooting Star territory, but this guy is his whole special brand of awful.

Which I appreciate, honestly, because rather than being generic hot teacher, this sleazeball is a full stop predator. He corners Uka, preys on her insecurity, and generally tries to white knight her in a scenario that she doesn’t require saving from. And he was quietly moved on from another school where he was a problem with the students. Dude is textbook.

This is the point where Kai steps in, but it’s for the best because Uka’s definitely not quite there yet for confidence and her half-hearted but heartfelt protests aren’t going to cut it. There’s a quiet menace to him, which makes it even more satisfying when Kai keeps getting the better of him (and Uka stands up for herself).

So far, so typical, but it’s when Uka volunteers to run the class’ festival preparations that things really get interesting and the writing goes from strong to some real sizzle.

Which you wouldn’t recognize at first, as Uka’s plans are constantly being shot down or she’s being yelled over or ignored. As usual, you do have to tolerate a lot of doormat behaviour from Uka and that can be, indeed, a lot - she is always just this side of tolerable for me (probably because I see a lot of myself in her anxiety).

Just when it looks like this is going to be a big old downer of Uka doing everything on her own, it turns out that there’s a big reveal to be had and it was really, really good because it is believable, satisfying, and lets Uka solve a problem (which nobody even realized was a problem) with her own two hands. It’s absolutely satisfying when something that doesn’t seem special (seriously, you’ve seen their idea a million times) turns out to have been way more complicated than you think.

That’s what really tipped a very good volume over for me. I don’t love every second of this series, but I tend to really, really like it and even when it’s grating a little it is because of how well it’s written. Seeing Uka suddenly appreciated for what she’s been doing is such a great lift and it carries the story straight to the volume’s end.

4 stars - not a classic, but it’s definitely way better than the more average shojo out there too. You could do so, so much worse than this charming little story of somebody trying to be better and the boy who nudges her to do so.

As the rival storyline seems to remain firmly in Uka's head (and those of everyone who sees Kai and his ex together), that other old standby, the cultural festival, rears its head. And although it is very genre-typical, it also manages to keep things focused where they belong, on Uka and the horrors of high school social politics. Uka's determination to be a different (and to her mind, better and stronger) person leads her to offer to be the class coordinator for the festival, but she finds herself shoved aside and subjected to snide commentary at every turn. It isn't until two low-key mean girls realize how the other classes are seeing her hard work that things begin to turn around, and while Kai supports her, it's also really important that this is largely accomplished without him. This story hits just enough familiar beats to make it clear that it's playing with them, and seeing Uka creep ever closer to coming into her own is a joy.

Dnf this on the last chapter of the volume... This shoujo is not for me; the dialogues feel many times disconnected within the situation, I can't really identify the characters well, all in all just confusing. 😵‍💫

I just want to shake Kai cause what the fuck is going on in his head. He's doing too much pushing and pulling. I get that he's trying to help Uka while also trying to make her stand on her own, but he can be so mean about it sometimes lol. Actually a lot of the characters are pretty rude in this series. And the random teacher thrown in?? It kind of came out of no where and it was hardly anything. Not that I wanted it to go in that direction, but it was like two scenes and done. It was very strange.

I have a few more coming from the library but she is just too shy. Like…. I mean this in the kindest way possible but this feels painful. I don’t know why with this. Art isn’t bad but like every step forward feels like two back with her.

kai has a weird attraction towards girls who are bullied.. but hey! at least the attraction is reciprocated ig? 😭 uka is a girl who has been bullied all her life until kai steps into her life and encourages her to stand up for herself. honestly, it’s a really sweet and beautiful story about growth and the two of them are ADORABLEEE. some people think uka is annoying because she cries a lot… and sure i guess it’s excessive at times? BUT WHAT DO U EXPECT FROM A TEENAGER WHO HAS BEEN BULLIED ALL HER LIFE :( after years of that torment she finally feels like she is worthy of friendship and love… im sure that’s a lot to take in :( THIS STORY IS SOSO CUTE!! i love how fast paced their love story is too!!

one criticism i will say is the fact that it is STILL ongoing? i feel like this has been ongoing for a while now… like what more could be happening in the story? i kinda stopped reading it after a while because it got repetitive for me but i still enjoyed it!

Out of her comfort zone for Uka. I think it's really great that she's trying and that it's bringing her closer to her classmates. It's a shame that Kai's group is getting a bit neglected as a result, but I like the way things are going. Kai seems to be more annoyed by how they talk about his relationship with Uka. He's becoming a bit opaque, and I'm increasingly puzzled about what he really thinks and wants to achieve. Serina is one of those characters where I also wonder what her purpose is. At the moment, she's making Uka doubt herself, which I think is okay because it makes her think about her path. I'm looking forward to volume 4 because I really like such an unpredictable storyline.

The midterm's and the cultural festival prep was intresting story lines and really shows Uka's character very well. Uka was so brilliant in trying her hardest to make friends and to see her succeed was so heart warming. This issue with the teacher was solved so brilliantly with Kai's help. The way Kai is starting to express himself to Uka is brilliant and so heart warming. To see Uka trying her hardest to make the cultural festival the best was brilliant and amazing. The story is progressing so brilliantly and all the cuteness of it is so sweet. This was so worth the read and so enjoyable.

While the hike was a big step for Uka, she takes on an even larger task as the class committee rep for the school festival. At first it looks like this may backfire horribly, but her classmates really start coming around to accepting her and her ideas and actively looking forward to their work together for the festival. While Uka is still struggling with all of the emotional upheaval and her thoughts towards Kai and Serina, she's making some big strides in finding her place in the school.

The structure was a little better in this one. The main thing that comes across is how many of these kids are jerks. Like they're coming around, but still. I'm rooting for the main love interest even though it feels a bit forced. I do like a good opposites attract. Also, why are none of them reporting the student teacher's creepy predatory behavior? Like tell an adult guys!!

Será que ha aparecido un rival ?! No creo, espero saber más de él.

Se acerca el festival cultural, y Uka ha decidido involucrarse, será que su grupo se expandirá? Que piensa realmente Kai de ella participando?
