I love how the author sets the scene for each of these books. You just know that things are never going to end well for the character that we first get to meet at the start. It had me on edge right from the beginning as I was jumping to conclusions as to what was going to happen to them only to have it totally wrong.
Even though the reader gets to see the killer in action, things aren’t clear as to why they are killing their victims. It’s as much as baffle to the reader as it is to Sam and her team. Sam and Bob are the ones doing the house to house calls as well as attending the crime scenes whilst the others are back at the office doing the behind the scene work. What I love is how this story shows how solving crimes is very much a team effort. It’s the skilled work of all involved, which can involve mundane tasks which can lead to vital information.
The author touches on the topic of suicide and I have to applaud the author for bringing up when people say that when someone takes their own life that it is the easy way out. This is so not true and someone has to be in a very hard and bad place to get to that stage and it is a saying that I really don’t like and I liked that this was pulled up by one of the characters.
To Control Them was a dark and disturbing read. With how this books ends, I am very eager to get to the next book of which it may not be for the reasons why you would think it would be but you will understand once you have read it for yourself. It had me go through an array of emotions, mainly horror an anger at what happens to the victims but also emotion for the families that are left behind. Another rivetingly great read in the series.
My thanks to the author for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
Wow book 8 already! And with absolutely no signs of flagging. I'm really in awe of where and how this author gets all her ideas for books, all completely unique, being as she is so prolific... But she does and they are all brilliant! Usual series rules apply, I'm really not going to spell them out again... So... Sam is called to a scene by the pathologist to have a look at a body. It's clear it's been moved from the original kill site which opens more questions. She and her team have just started their investigations, noticing that personal documents appear missing, when another body turns up with glaring similarities. Could this be the start of a serial killer? The team have to up their game before the killer strikes again... As we follow the killer in this book, the focus is more on the why rather than the who which is refreshingly different and lets me try guess a whole different subset of things. As always the author does not shy away from the big topics. Again as always they are handled sensitively and not glorified. Indeed, in this book, a few things in general consensus are, shall we say, corrected. It's hard to explain without spoilers, but I applaud the author for tackling something quite tricky. The cleverly plotted story is played out with some cracking characters, both series and episode, main and bit-part. All included are well defined and do their jobs very well. Said plot is also well executed without the need for any additional waffle or padding which makes for a pacy read with a story that gets on with itself very well. All in all, another cracking addition to an already well impressive series and indeed back catalogue. I wonder which of her characters will get the limelight next time.
When DI Sam Cobbs is called out to the edge of Workington at the request of Pathologist Des Markham , at 6.45 in the morning ..she finds the victim's body has been left in an alley ..with her throat cut ...But the Pathologist believes the woman has been moved ..As Sam and her partner DS Bob Jones wander what kind of killer they are dealing with ..it soon becomes clear they need to find this killer fast, when another victim is found with the same m.o...But exactly what kind of killer are they dealing with ...who could have committed such heinous acts ? .....5 stars .Book 8 in the DI Sam Cobbs series is a twisty , dark and riveting read ...
This whole Series has had me gripped - each book unputdownable and Highly Recommended
The 8th book in this fabulous Lake District Series explodes onto the very first page and continues to draw the reader into an extremely complicated web of vicious murders, deceit and unforgivable fraud.
Sam and her partner, Bob, together with the team, really have their work cut out with these complicated and heartbreaking cases.
If you have never read anything from this very talented author then this series is a good place to start.
Sam is summoned to a a murder scene by the pathologist but discovers that things are not as they first appear! Why has a woman been murdered and the body moved?
Sam, and Bob her trusty sidekick, along with the rest of her team, begin investigating, but it’s not long before another body turns up. What have the victims got in common and can the team apprehend the killer before they strike again?
This is number 8 in the series and it’s become a real favourite! Really recommend, can’t wait for the next.
This book, as all the previous ones in the series, kept me riveted to my seat. You could cut the tension with a knife at times. The adrenaline was full flowing. I don’t like to compare to any other series or characters because I feel that it’s in a class of its own and rightly deserves to stand on its own merits. First class read and swiftly on to book 9. Thoroughly enjoyed and recommended.
Another Gripping and hard to put down read, by the amazing and talanted. MA Comley. We join D.ISam Cobbs and partner Bob and of course her hard working team, who work relentlessly to solve murders and Financial Irregularities. Keeps you on your toes and enthralled. Highly recommend
A grab and run with you book. Can’t believe it’s book 8! Loving this series and these characters. I hold my breath they’re ok on each read. The start of the book took me so fast, wow just a jump in. Excellent!
Another terrific book from this superb author. Her crime scenes are always full of spot on detail & the team of detectives work hard to achieve their results. Can’t wait to read more about Sam Cobbs in this series.
The author has written a very extensive and entertaining story of murder and deception that lead the police to a series of events that finally solved the case. Very entertaining and enjoyable reading.
Another Excellent story in the San Gibbs series set in the Lake District. All the usual good strong characters and actually good fast moving story line.Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
The story telling is quite good but I found the crime motive less than convincing. The characters are believable but some of their dialogue was OTT and repetitive. Sometimes a single phrase can spoil a book and one nothin almost did when the main character “trotted off to her office”.
Comley has done it again with the Lake District series. You will be leery of what you do with your money after reading this one. Thank you for another good one. Hardest working author I know.
Another bloody brilliant book in the DI Sam Cobbs Series. Thank you MA Comley This book can be read as part of the series or stand alone. I love the characters in this book & love Sam Cobbs.
DI Sam Cobbs is perplexed when it turns out that a murder victim’s body has been moved from the original crime scene.
The team have their work cut out to find the killer when another body is found.
The author always draws you in with the story from the very start. She isn’t shy in writing about subjects that affect most of us at some point. As always, the story is dark but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying the series.
This is another book in a superb series that has become a firm favourite for me.
