This book starts off with our main character, Ethan, who is a young kid that gets bullied in school for basically being and looking different. He has many insecurities because of this. This is fairly common in our day to day for kids and adults of all ages. He then has a wish that the world will be better if everyone looked the same. I feel like this is a common wish that even me and many kids who have been bullied for their differences have had at one point. Following this life lesson, there are many activities that kids can follow through with. These activities are very helpful with learning how to see the world around you and how to accept the things that are different about themselves and others. The story flows perfectly and is easy to understand. I love that illustrations are added to this book and it helps bring the story to life. Reading this book is like seeing a movie, each description and the words brings the picture together. This book works well with kids’ wonderful imagination as it has a magical talking tree, named sherman. You’ll learn more about him in the story, he helps our little friend a lot. This book holds beautiful lessons that everyone should know. I do recommend it.
This is a great children's book that I feel would be the perfect story to get more children into reading. Without being too long or complicated, If Everyone Looked The Same achieves the difficult task of being impactful and engaging while keeping it brief thanks to the stellar pacing. The activities at the back are a great touch, too. I highly recommend this!
