First and foremost I love faeries. So much so that I believe that if they are in a story, my enjoyment factor goes up at least 20% if not more. That being said, this is why the book gets a solid 3 star review. I really enjoyed it but it has some problems which pixie dust are not going to fix for me.

The lightness of the read was welcome. It was like sitting on your back porch with a cup of tea. It flitted, much like a faerie, from one shiny moment to the next. The characters can be classified as different fey even! We have the trolls, one of her employees; Dilly Perkins and her boyfriend the former Boston Policeman; Sheriff Tiddler. We have our own Fairy Queen, our philanthropist and former mother-in-law to the Fairy Lord himself, Devin who swoops in gives us a completely fairytale-ish romance that leaves you wondering what Luna, our Faerie Princess; slipped into those Faerie Cakes! (In other words one minute someone was match making and the next they were engaged, it was truly a WTF moment in the book. But oh well, after all there were FAIRIES!!) Our brownie, Annie; our other helper, was constantly kept in a good mood as long as she is fed and allowed to at least perform a collection of acts that protect and keep Luna happy. (Perhaps I am stretching it a bit with Alice but she is the happy employee ready to jump on the "bitch-slap bandwagon" to anyone who messes with Luna). Oh Luna's ex-husband definitely is part of the Unseelie court, but Thomas is a lowly goblin, ugly and in need of being stomped on by a Ogre.

The mystery a steady predictable pace, but still with a nice who-done-it and added surprises giving a very nice touch. I had a lot of fun with the book. I hope we have more Luna adventures, but with more to the book. I wonder where you could go since it ended as it did, somewhat finite. The reason I want more is the book just was flat, rushed and almost felt like a Easy-Baked version of a bigger book sitting somewhere on someones to be edited pile. I just felt like there should have been more character development, more segues that made sense. You can throw as many handfuls of pixie dust in my face and feed me as many of those laced Faerie Cakes as you want to but you cannot sell me on half of what happened in the manner it did. BUT like I said, faeries and fun. LOTS of fun and again, good solid mystery.

I hope she keeps writing faerie books, she knows her fey and I saw a lot of that in the writing. It was a great weekend read!

Ok I saw an author friend of mine promoting this book. So I read the book blurb like any good book junkie does. Well I fell in love with the premise of the book. Haven't read a good sweet fairie book . So I started reading and reading and reading. I mean who can not fall in love with a book that has tea, cupcakes , a hot leading man. and of course fairies. Luna is a fairy talking human who lives on a plot of land that her family has kept in natural state for the fairies and pixies . You are probably thinking that ok now what. Well there is so much that happens in this book. You will just love it

I mean waking up to go and bake your cupcakes and finding a dead man sitting at one of your tables ready for tea. That is the start of the strange things that happen poor Luna. To just add to the chaos of her life. In walks Devin Randford , he sends her heart racing and thinking of naughty naughty thoughts running around her mind. As for every good thing that is happening the bad must follow . Luna's ex husband Thomas is slinking back into her life trying to take control of her business and just making her life a living hell. As the murders mount and the blackmail ensues. Who does Luna have to lean against. Devin is there and ready willing and able to do more for her then just build her office. Hehehehehehehe. Will they survive and will they realize that they love each other . You will have to read to find out

I loved this book cause it is a nice light read . Trust me you can't go wrong with tea, cupcakes , and a little mystery. Oh yeah and fairies. I so want a place like FAIRIE CAKE JUNCTION, I would be there everyday . The characters were well written and you felt like you were sitting in the tea shop . Listening to the conversations that are going on all around you. This would be a good easy summer read for those lazy summer days , where you just want to lie out in the hammock and read the day away .

Review: A cruel murder, inconsistent ransom notes, and a plot to frame — but life still goes on with Luna, her cat, and her cupcakes! Faerie Cake Dead is an upbeat, all's well ends well cozy mystery that has a touch of romance and an undertone of fantasy. Years after her divorce to the cold, ruthless Thomas Devere, Luna has managed to turn her life around and streamline it into the success of her cupcake boutique, Faerie Cake Junction. Despite the fact that town officials and some of her customers think her balmy for believing in faeries — which are her inspiration — she's never been better without Thomas, and is really starting to appreciate her prosperous business. Until he suddenly reappears in her life, that is, and a few other things turn astray as well.

The murderer who keeps planting dead or near-dead people in her shop obviously is someone who knows her well, someone who is out to assail her in every way — morally, financially, socially. Sexy handyman and widow Devin Radford offers her an emotional hand during Luna's time of desperation, which she reluctantly, but eventually accepts. But then falls in love with...? I don't get their relationship at all. Devin is way too forward with her, admitting he's in love with her off the bat, even though they've never met before these murders and break-ins took place, and though Luna's annoyed by his directness, she soon returns the feelings? Not believable at all. Neither character is grounded very well — they just swoon over themselves a lot and blame each other for each other's bumblings. I can't say I liked either of them, or their 'romance', for that matter. They both try too hard to come off as lovable, witty characters, but I just couldn't feel it. They lack originality as individuals and chemistry as a couple... does it get any more dull than that?

The murder case isn't very convincing, either. The characters act very unprofessionally and the resolution isn't shocking at all. There is tittering suspense along the way — Griffin's great at drawing out scenes to make readers keen on finding out who's behind the chaos — but the end result is devastatingly unsatisfying. This book is slightly more disappointing than the other novel I reviewed by J.M. Griffin, Murder on Spyglass Lane. It drags out a lot more, and has an even more absurd romantic premise.

Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the writing much either. There's nothing spectacularly wrong with it, all the grammar's fine and such, but it's just not interesting. Griffin's voice is just very blunt, uninspiring, and stale — the kind of prose that's bound to put me to sleep! There are some details I am fond of, however: Luna's cupcake business is cute, and the faeries are captivating. I do enjoy how the author manages to incorporate some magical elements to her contemporarily-set stories. I think the main idea is spot on — the arrangement of corpses is certainly shocking and Luna's business being sabotaged very realistic. However, Griffin's style's blandness and the story's overall lack of substance make the book a flop.

While there are certain things I did appreciate in Faerie Cake Dead, including the cheery tone, the exposition, and the faeries, it's something I do not recommend because it ultimately fails in both the cozy mystery and romance departments.

Rating: 4 hearts - So-so; reading this book may cause wrinkles (from frowning so much).

MY REVIEW
I was given this e-book in exchange for an honest review to be used as part of the Innovative Online Book Tours Blog Tour. This is Bk 1 in the Luna Devere Series. I like the colours on the book cover, and I understand the scales element as being a reference to the "scales of justice", and obviously the cupcakes are Luna's business. I think the image of the woman points to the book being perhaps a little racy which it wasn't. To be totally truthfully I think the image of the woman is slightly off putting as I imagine from reading the book that Luna is more of a Samantha from Bewitched type, which yes is good looking and perhaps sexy but more of a wholesome imaged person. Luna is a strong woman underneath her perhaps "fluffy headed" image. Luna has built a bustling, successful business selling cupcakes in her tearooms and hand maid gifts in the attached gift shop. Annie and Dilly are her employees, though they have a great relationship with Luna and consider themselves friends.
I did enjoy the book it's a fairly light quick read, it has mystery, murder and a little mayhem thrown in! There's the romance between Luna and Devin. Luna has escaped an awful marriage and thinks that section f her life is over. then one day Thomas (her ex) turns up and tells her he is going to be her business partner. Luna is having building work done an Devin has been recommended. There's a frisson on chemistry between them straight off though Luna will not admit it. Luna finds it had to trust after her marriage, Thomas tried to have her committed. You see Luna believes in faeries, in fact Luna talks to them on a regular basis. What will Devin think when he realises? Will Thomas get half of Luna's business?
It's a great mystery book. with some romance and paranormal (in the shape of faeries and pixies)thrown in. well worth reading.
So did I enjoy it? Yes, Would I read more in the series or by this author? Yes would I recommend it? Yes I am going to pass it on to my mum for her opinion.

I reviewed J.M. Griffin's Murder On Spyglass Lane awhile back and decided then that she was going to be an author that I wanted to watch out for. I'm glad I made that decision. I love cozy mysteries, and this one is a combination of two things I like, tasty treats and the paranormal, in this case faeries.

I also love quirky characters and that is Luna!

Her relationship with Devlin is a bit strange, I would have liked the characters to be more fleshed out so that their relationship might have been more plausible, but overall the story was cute.

My only gripe is that this story made me really hungry for cupcakes and there are none on hand. What a bummer. Actually this story will make you very hungry overall. The description of the cupcakes though will have any mortal salivating and probably a few faeries and pixies too.

It kept you guessing until the very end, whodunit, at least it did me, and the answer was a bit of a surprise.

This is a great story for those looking for a quick fun cozy! I can't wait for more of this series.

I liked the book. I got very tired of people smirking. That was a term very over used.

We have Luna running her cupcake, tea and gift shop. First there is a dead body found in the shop and then Luna is attacked on her back porch. And the hits just keep on coming.

The mystery is rather light, but the book is supposed to be light. Luna has a problem with her threatening former husband. To the rescue comes Luna's knight in a tool belt. Devan is a nice widower who wants to help solve the problems that appear to be arising every day.

During all this, we have faeries who come and give information to Luna. She is thought to be crazy because she admits to being friends with faeries.

There is murder, blackmail, theft, assault and romance. The plot is good and the characterizations are good. Overall, this is a nice book. It is a quick read and the main characters are generally people you would like to get to know.

There are improbabilities.....and I do not include the faeries and pixies as improbable. But, if you like a light mystery, this is the book for you.

I have to give credit where credit is due.....I didn't see it coming until the end!
Usually, I have it all figured out, but Ms. Griffin had to go and throw me for a loop..
WELL DONE!

I fell in love with Luna's character, she is head strong and even if some think she if a little off....so be it.
I was so glad that Devin walks into her life, we all need a little "Havoc" and man he could fix my basement any day.
The faeries are such an added delight...who wouldn't want a meadow full of faeries that come and talked to you??? Or Pixies that come to your rescue???
Personally, I thought for sure Thomas did it right down to the moment of the party, but then .....
Yeah, well I guess there's more to the story than meets the eyes....guess I need to go out back and ask the faeries ...After I make some cupcakes!!!!!!

The story itself is well put together and has the reader questioning who did what right down to the very end.

Luna Devere believes in faeries. It isn't something that she broadcasts to the world but they have been around her whole life. That is why when a dead body ends up in her tea shop she goes to the faeries for information and help. We go on an adventure full of dead bodies, drugged people, blackmail, and everything else aimed at getting Luna to shut down her tea and gift shop. Luck for Luna the handsome Devin Radford happens into the picture and wants to help her find the culprit. He even suggests a fake proposal to get Luna's greedy ex husband out of the picture.

Faerie Cake Dead is a fun fast paced story. Although fun the characters felt a little flat. The story has a few bumps and time seems a little off. The story has plenty of twists and turns leading to a perfect conclusion. I would like to see what is in store for Luna and Devin.

I love how cute and put together the cover of the book is.
Now, the main character of the book reminded me allot of Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter, no idea why but even though she would be considered a little bit "off" she was still head strong and knew what she believed in.

The murder plot kept me guessing up until the end. I am not sure if it was because I had a little bit of trouble enjoying the writing, it just felt a little flat to me, or if because I was distracted.

Either way it is an ok read. It doesn't take allot of time to get through so it is not like those thick paperbacks that seem to go on and on with no end in sight and ultimately bore readers.

I did enjoy how cute the book was and how light it seemed.

Have you hugged your pixie today?

Cupcakes to die for in more ways than one, a super yummy carpenter, murder mysteries to solve, faeries, and yes PIXIES! These all combine to make up the fun and engrossing book Faierie Cake Dead by J.M. Griffin.

After reading this book I am picking up cupcakes tomorrow for a friend's Birthday, I just wish they were from the junction. Warning! This book will make you crave cupcakes. They are described so well your mouth will water.

The faeries are sweet and yet a bit cryptic. They kind of speak in riddles.

But the Pixies are my favorite part. When they protect Luna.....well you will see when you read the book.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

First let me say Yummy now I want cupcakes in all flavors. The images of the faeries and the descriptions of the cupcakes were so vivid you could easily put your self right into the book. I was kept in the dark of who did what till the end. One thing I love about mysteries I don’t want to figure out the story too soon. The faith from the book made or make you want to really believe in the good mythical creatures. I hope this will work out as a series this is one author to keep your eye on.

This book had a dumb title, but I was hoping it would have some quality content. Sadly, the story was only so-so. The characters were very one-dimensional, and the ending felt too abrupt, like the author just got bored with writing. There were some editing errors that also detracted from the quality. It was fairly predictable, and just didn't have anything that would really make it stand out.

The title of this book is what caught my eye and so I had to read it. Love all the descriptions of the cupcakes and the images of the faeries. The story moved along at a good pace.

I hope Ms. Griffin writes more adventures of Luna and gang.

This was a delightful read. It did make me want to go visit the local cupcake shop here in town. Faeries may not be real, but this story makes you hope they are. The author keeps you guessing to the end "who dunnit". There were so many possibilities. Hope you enjoy the read.
