Secrets are like fire, they either bring people together or burn them apart
Georgia
As a teen, I spent countless hours fantasizing about marrying my older brother’s best friend. Well, that dream didn’t exactly go as planned. Now, I’m pregnant by my ex, and I’ve had to marry Brix, my childhood crush, just to avoid a family crisis. He may be my husband, but we aren’t together –he’s made that perfectly clear.
There are more important things on the line here than my heart. Yet, the man I'm playing house with has no idea that the thirteen-year-old girl inside me is kinda in love with him. Oh, who am I kidding, I’m still totally in love with him. This has disaster written all over it…
Brix
I’ve always been a guy who values loyalty above all else. That’s why I’ve completely blown up my life for the closest thing I’ve ever had to a real family. You see, my best friend and I have been inseparable since childhood. We even became FDNY firefighters together. His family is my family. So, when his little sister returned to the city pregnant and terrified of being on her own, I made an impulsive decision to step up and marry her.
What started as a marriage of convenience, has turned into something way more complicated than I ever could’ve imagined. Georgia’s no longer the annoying little girl I remember from childhood. She’s all grown up and has me questioning everything. Crossing that line could very well cost me my brother, but not crossing it, could cost me my heart. Now, I’m faced with an impossible decision. Only one thing is life as we know it will never be the same.
If you like alpha males with soft centers who love hard and make love harder, then the Burning for the Bravest Series featuring New York City firefighters - written by a former firefighter - is for you! Burning for Secrets is the eighth book in this series. It is a standalone in an interconnected world. Get ready to be up all night because this series will make you laugh, it'll make you cry, and it's so steamy that it'll fog up your e-reader. Settle in for a page-turner and fall in love along with the firemen of NYC. Read the author's note in the beginning for trigger warnings (you can view this in the "Look Inside" before purchasing.)
Kaye Kennedy is the author of contemporary romance and romantic suspense novels featuring everyday heroes who love hard and make love harder. If you like steamy and soulful reads that will break your heart and put it back together again, then her stories are for you. In her books, you can always expect a happily ever after that kisses and tells.
She earned her degree in English Literature and taught college composition & literature classes before switching gears entirely and becoming an entrepreneur, starting multiple businesses. While originally from New York, Kaye now lives on the Florida coast with her rescue mutt, Zeus, whose begging to be put in a book has finally paid off (Read: Burning for Secrets). When she isn’t writing, she’s out paddling on the water, indulging in a beach read, feeding her wanderlust, or checking out a craft brewery.
If you have secret (or not so secret fantasies) about the FDNY, or any firefighter, look no further than Kaye’s “Burning” series. It’s been a while since we’ve had an entry, but Brix and Georgia don’t disappoint. There is a LOT going on in their lives, KK builds a compelling world that means we get a longish book that takes the time to build character. It’s a slow burn (past 60% before these two get down to it) but it’s 🥵🥵🥵🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥 from there, including some rather risqué elements not for the faint of heart! Minor quibbles - Georgia has always had feelings for Brix, but his feelings for her come a little out of nowhere. While it’s easy to understand why Brix does what he does, there comes a point where he just decides he’s in love with her and then it’s pretty much sunshine and rainbows from there. Which is fine, there is still a hunk of book to get through, and they really need to support each other (and do - their HEA is not in jeopardy here), which brings me to… THE TWIST. I don’t know about The Twist. It’s interesting, the stuff fantasy romance novels are made of, and it serves the plot, I just don’t think it works for me. And that’s a me problem, not an author problem, so I’m not taking anything away from KK or the story overall. Looking forward to the next book, love this author’s commitment to diversity (please bring Keith and Brielle into the circle, never understood why they exist outside of it)!
This book is about Georgia, who is pregnant, and Brix who is best friends with Georgia’s brother. They grew up together, and Georgia had a major crush on Brix. She goes away to college and then vet school and returns to NY (her hometown) without her family knowing. Brix happens to bump into her when he takes a lost pup to her vet clinic. Surprise! She’s pregnant and the baby daddy doesn’t want anything to do w/ the her or the baby. This is why she moved back home. However, her religious Greek parents don’t know that she is pregnant and she is afraid to tell them and her brother. Long story short, Brix blurts out that he’s in love with her and that they were going to get married. So, this best friend’s brother, childhood friend/crush, pregnant by another man, and marriage of convenience story is one heck of a story. Their story is full of love and support and it was beautifully told.
I loved Brix and Georgia together. What started as a long-time friendship with her brother transitioned into a marriage of convenience to help her with insurance/stability for her unborn child. From there, their feelings deepened. This slow burn allowed me to really see them fall in love. Then the steamy kicks in. ;)
“I’m starting to think you’re Prince Charming and your job is to make all my dreams come true.” He kissed my head. “This is better than a fairytale. Our love is real.”
Brix, Georgi, and baby make a sweet family. The fire rescues added a hit of action amongst the romance. And that little twist was something I didn't anticipate.
Wow what a fabulous story! I loved the characters. I mean Georgia comes home, gets a job as a Vet in a clinic, she is pregnant and has a fear of telling her family. She encounters Brix, her brother’s best friend, and in a short period of time Brix decides to marry her. The story shows their developing relationship and challenges they face together that finds their marriage becoming more real. The biggest problem comes from Georgia’s ex- boyfriend when he wants to have a part in the baby’s life. The ending in this story was a total surprise and very well done. This is a great and entertaining story and I can’t wait for more!
This author delivered another great story in this series. You definitely felt what these two went through. I absolutely loved Georgia and Brix. Both are fantastic characters. You also got to see more from the other characters as well, which was fantastic. Highly recommend this book as well as the series.
Burning for Secrets: WOW! Fantastic writing and dialogue! I really enjoyed Corey and Georgia's story. I liked how he always protected her even when she was younger.
I have missed this series!! I have liked the other books Kaye Kennedy has been writing since the last Burning book, but it was so great to get back to this series. This was a great addition to it!
