Rate this book
A stunt car driver, an MI5 agent, a gigolo… Finn Montoya tells everyone she meets she has a different profession. It’s all part of keeping people at a distance while still being a part of the world around her. Really, she’s an accomplished writer who has taken being a mystery to heart. At least that way, she can stay safe. Under no circumstances can her past catch up with her.
Angie Davis just wanted some simple time with her daughter. But when the paparazzi swarm the café she and Luna are at, she has no choice but to accept the help of a handsome stranger who is watching the chaos play out. When Luna develops a friendship with that stranger, Angie’s unsure how to handle it. But the more time Angie spends with her, the more she wants to be in Finn’s arms.
Against her better judgement, Finn allows herself to be drawn to the promise of something real with Angie, but when the celebrity spotlight threatens to derail her safe existence and expose her secrets, it isn’t only their hearts in danger. Is love worth the risk?

An exhilarating and even fascinating love story. Could not get enough of their (Finn & Angie & Luna) chemistry.
Highly recommended book!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Sweet story, a little bit of angst but not much and beautifully written. Enjoyed it a lot.

I’m impressed that this is the first book from this author. Hopefully there will be more books in the future.

I think this book has all the potential to be great but it's just a little meh for me.
It's a celebrity trope one and I love that, I kinda like how this is different from most in that trope segment.
What I don't like is all this hinting at a troubled past and hiding and whatever. It feels convoluted and finds a resolution too quickly and easily for something that’s been bothering these characters for decades.

I like the way Finn handles the kid (Luna), it's simultaneously good and strange. Angie seems like a bit of a flimsy character, really surface-level. And their secrecy, mostly Finn’s, isn't helping to bring this story along. I understand that a little mystery is intriguing and sexy, but Angie knows basically nothing about Finn and she wants a full-blown relationship with the near stranger who her kid hangs out with on a regular basis. Just all a bit strange.

If the mystery part, the past, played a different role in this book it would have been awesome. It should have leaned into that more instead of staying in the safe middle ground that's just a whole lot of meh.

It's written well enough, the story just lacks a bit of a punch (figuratively). Even though lots of it is set up, it never really comes.

An ok read, at the beginning I thought i would give it 4 stars but 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Finn, her story is very interesting, she was kind, passionate, wise (sometimes), weird (most of the time 😂), i liked almost everything about her

Angie was so annoying and her story felt flat, i feel like Luna (her daughter) has more depth than her, even Finn had a better relationship with Luna than she had with her own mother

I definitely didn’t feel any chemistry between them and with all sexual innuendo they made I thought we all good an amazing sex scenes but all we got is two and both of them was pretty boring
The third act breakup pissed me off, because Finn told Angie from the beginning she can’t talk about her past and yet she broke things with her because of it AND after they had sex? Very stupid and immature in my opinion 🙄🙄.

Also The way both of them kept running from their past for YEARS! How They managed to solve everything with simple solution i have no idea.

A good read

I really liked this book. The characters were very well written and while I felt the ending came up a little too quickly I was glad for that ending because who doesn't want full HEA for almost everyone. I do hope there is a continuation into this world because I really would like more insight into Finn's sisters and really maybe Luna as an adult.

Definitely worth a read

Really enjoyed this one - weird kid, nerdy butch heroine and a film star. What not to love? And a thriller thrown in. Highly recommended.

Finn is a very successful writer who writes under a pseudonym because of her past in the Dominican Republic. She stays to herself but everyday sits and doodles or writes at the local coffee shop. There she meets Angie a famous actress and her 12 yr old daughter Luna. Luna and Finn play a game with letters and numbers tiles and become friends quickly. Finn fights it, but she's drawn into the small family and her attraction to Angie.
The dialogue between Finn and Luna is heartwarming. The attraction between Finn and Angie is hot! You get invested in the story. 5 stars

An unexpected delightful read for me. The recluse writer and the child of an A-list actress was so adorable to follow. The dynamic was so easy and natural. The reclusive writer’s mystery was intriguing and kept me focused on the story. The romance between the main characters was hot and heavy. I’d say it was good storytelling because I was always wanting more.

Very sweet!

Finn meets Angie who just wanted to spend some time with her daughter. With paparazzi causing a scene, Finn helps with Luna while Angie deals with the commotion they are causing. When Luna takes a bit of a shine to Finn, she becomes a bigger part of their lives but it isn’t without risk. Being around Angie means they could all be in danger.

Absolutely adored this story. It was filled with heart and soul, about real characters who were genuine and relatable. Finn just wants a quiet life, to stay hidden from her past and enjoy what she can while pursuing her writing, and it sounded like heaven! Angie knew the complications and impacts of fame not only on her own life but also Luna’s and worried terribly about the affects it was having. Luna and Finn just had this cute connection that worked and it was magical, but when she really started getting to know Angie too it was so obvious her heart was going to cause disruption to what she was content with as an existence.

Finn I could really identify with and loved her so much. That longing to just write and not have anyone really know the truth was so appealing I envied how well she’d achieved it! She loved solitude but she was kind, caring, and from the moment she met Luna and Angie you just knew she was a good person that wasn’t going to be able to ignore helping out another in a moment of need. She was giving with her whole self, even if she held back at first but she had very good reasons.

The whole story was special, from the focus on the effects of fame or just generally people wanting to know everything about another person, to the inclusivity of characters that didn’t confirm to norms or stereotypes. It really was a heart-warming story, not to be missed for anyone who loves a simple but deep romance.

Where the Heart Leads by Ally McGuire is one hell of a debut novel.

Finn is a diverse character, full of mystery and intrigue. Angie is an actress, and often in the limelight, however, the attention is unwelcome when her daughter Luna is with her. Angie’s protective nature kicks in when the paparazzi accost the couple in the coffee shop. Finn helps get Luna away from the situation, but still in sight of her mother, and engages in conversation.

Luna is not like other kids and only has a tiny circle of friends; her character is geeky, comes across as very intelligent, and curious. As Luna spends more time with Finn, friendship and trust develop. The banter between the two was well written and very amusing. Angie is curious regarding her daughter's relationship with the enigmatic Finn.

Excellent storytelling that had me fully immersed in the lives of Finn, Angie, and Luna. The character development was spot on, and the plot flowed well. I cannot rate this book highly enough and look forward to future works.

I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest review.

4.75 stars. What a debut novel from a new author! Well written with two exciting main characters, a celebrity trope, great second characters including a budding teenager and dark secrets that bubble underneath in the storyline. Finn is a writer who writes under a pseudonym living a hermit like existence who meets an actress and her daughter in a coffee shop where she comes to said daughters rescue. Luna is a nerdy kid with no friends but an awesome personality. She adds a poignant subplot to the books. The chemistry between the two MC’s is hot and steamy. My only miss with this book is the lack of Hollywood or industry depth but it in no way impacts the story. This is just an really good book and tantalizing read.

Where the Heart Leads is a slow burn, celebrity romance that is really well done. I read it in a day and was very invested in learning the full story of the characters’ pasts that made them how they are today. The character development was great, both for the MCs and some good supporting characters and the banter was on point.

Angie is a famous actress and a single mom to twelve year-old Luna. Finn is a mysterious writer, who goes by a pen name and doesn’t let anyone get too close. We see them all meet when Angie and Luna are swarmed by paparazzi in a coffee shop when Finn (then a stranger) offers an escape for Luna by inviting her to sit with her and play a domino-style game. So begins a strong and sweet friendship between Luna and Finn. I love that the eventual relationship between Angie and Finn starts with this unique bond between Finn and Luna. Luna is both anxiety-prone and mature beyond her years, which makes this friendship work well in the book.

Finn is an extremely private and mysterious person throughout the book. While some hints are dropped about what she is fleeing, it really takes the whole book to uncover her background and for her to overcome it. She is a very compelling character and I found myself looking for the breadcrumbs she occasionally dropped to try to figure out her story. Angie is a delightfully down -to-earth celebrity who also has some interesting, if not novel, baggage to overcome. Both MCs grow a lot through this book, in believable ways. As much as I enjoyed and was rooting for Angie and Finn, I think my favorite character may be Luna - she is smart, quirky, and cool (by a fellow nerds’ standards), and it felt totally realistic to have her vacillate between being kind of a snotty pre-teen and a kid who is trying to figure out how to operate in the world.

I truly enjoyed this book and really can’t believe it’s a debut. The writing was excellent, the dialogue was fun, and the growth trajectories of the characters were both believable and significant. I look forward to reading whatever Ally McGuire gives us next.

Started the sample and had to know more. This book is compelling. Quarter in and not only do I want to know more back story, but I want to know more future story. Great job so far.
Half way through another plot development. Oh boy! This book is great.
The breakup was inevitable and I was a bit irritated at first because it seemed silly but actually the writer had made it inevitable and I became irritated that Angie thought she knew enough to proclaim Finn had to move on.
Wow! The breakup!! I didn’t think it was dragged out but the writer was trifling with me, and I am happy to be trifled with in this writers hands.
I also love that this book has natural break points where I can put it down and do the adulting things I need to do because there are sections of this book where I need to keep reading and would not put it down for anything!
The ending sees everything tied up, pretty much perfectly and justly for Angie’s parents.
Mostly 5 from me, but the some of the physical scenes between the mains didn’t quite work for me. The funny thing is the chemistry between the mains was off the charts! Those scenes tho, for me, dropped it to 4. Great book tho!

To be honest, this book was a bit of a surprise from start to finish.
I loved the way Finn's past haven't been revealed (in it's totality) until Angie found out as well. It gave a certain detachment from Finn's life at times, which could've ended in disaster but somehow it fit unbelievable well with the story.
The relationship between them is well-proportioned, although at first it felt... Maybe a tad forced for my liking. I'm speaking about the time Finn goes to dinner with Luna and Angie, with the-almost-instant flirting going on.
Even though this book has its depth, it still feels light and funny, especially with Finn's and Luna's personalities.
Pretty good! Definitely will be checking out more books from this author.

Where the Heart Leads

This was an amazing debut novel by Ally McGuire. I enjoyed the growth of characters, the fabulous chemistry and passion. It was entertaining that I didn't want to stop reading it. I think the angst was natural and resolved timely and very satisfying. I will be following this author in the future. I also liked the character linked to Robyn Nyx books .

A stunning new romance by debut author Ally McGuire sees a beautiful tale of love, and possibilities brought to life with finesse and pizazz.

Where the Heart Leads is a fantastically well written story centering on Finn Montoya - a highly successful and yet equally unknown writer, and Angie Davis - single mum and celebrity superstar. For her own safety Finn does everything she can to stay off the radar, Angie meanwhile is never far from the limelight much to her daughter Luna's consternation. When Finn spots Luna on the verge of panic amidst a hive of paparazzi, Finn doesn't hesitate to step in and befriend the teenager. A move which might just change all of their lives in unimaginable ways.

As romance novels go Where the Heart Leads is right up there with the best of the best. The author pays intricate detail to the smallest of points from Luna being vegetarian to the origin of Finn's pen name. The continuity of these finer aspects is on point and as a result I found myself able to become deeply immersed in the story.

The shining star of this debut novel however, is the characters. I truly fell in love with the trio that is Finn, Angie and Luna; the characters were so well developed that their interactions just flowed off the page. I'm sad to have left them behind, they felt special to me, and it's rare that I find myself saying that when it comes to a pure romance story, even more so when one of the characters is a kid! And what a kid; Luna is such a great individual character, full of teenage wit and humour that she uses to navigate her vulnerabilities. Her friendship with Finn is genuine and heart- warming; demonstrating that love shows itself in many valid and valuable forms.

Light touches of mystery surrounding Finn's character does not detract from the romantic core running through the heart of this story. And if you're paying attention you might also feel the vibes emanating from the sisterhood of strong women who are interweaved as secondary characters throughout this powerhouse of a story.

Without a doubt this is definitely a book which will make it into my Top Five of 2023. It's a superb slow burn, opposites attract story where the author has not only successfully produced a gorgeous love story but created characters that readers can fall in love with too.

I'm extremely excited to see Ally McGuire's future novels as they're surely set to sparkle given Where the Heart Leads is already riding high amongst the stars.

I’ll admit that celebrity romances are my guilty reading pleasure, but this book knocked it out of the park. I was hooked from page one and had a hard time putting this book down. If this is Ally McGuire’s debut novel, I can’t wait to see what she’ll gift us with next.

Finn Montoya is an enigma, she tells every person she meets a different story about who she is. It’s her way to keep everyone at arm’s length but still allows her to be close enough to observe the people around her. Even though she lets people believe all sorts of things she does for a living none of them come close to guessing the truth of Finn’s reclusive existence as a brilliant author.
Angie Davis is the movie star of her time and can hardly go anywhere without being followed by the press. She goes from one shoot to the next even though all she wants is to spend some quality time with her teenage daughter Luna.
Their paths cross when Angie gets ambushed by a horde of paparazzi when she steps into a coffee shop with her daughter Luna. When Finn witnesses Angie’s attempt at trying to protect Luna from the vultures, she steps in to help get Luna out of the limelight.

This book has deeply developed primary and secondary characters that I immensely enjoyed getting to know as I followed their story in the book. It’s clear from the start that Finn’s reclusiveness clashed with Angie’s celebrity status in Hollywood. As it so often happens opposites attract and to avoid additional conflict with the press the main characters had to engage with each other and lean from one another as well as grow as individuals.
The daughter Luna is almost a third main character. She is such a well-developed and deep character that she is a driving force in her own right. The relationship she develops with Finn is her own. It’s wonderful to see her as an individual character. Luna also helps both Finn and her mother understand certain things that allow them to build a future together.

I enjoyed this book by Ally McGuire a great deal. The writing is lighthearted and engaging. All characters are fully developed and a joy to get to know throughout the story. Luna in particular has a great sense of humor and is very entertaining in her teenage logic. This story holds just enough drama and mystery to entertain me, and not overpower the main romance. This is fantastic writing by a new voice in the women loving women romance market and certainly someone to look out for in the future. I enjoyed this book very much.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was such and entertaining and intriguing read!

Every time someone asks Finn what she does, she has a different answer. Angie has been lied to enough times that this may be a problem. Can they overcome issues between them?

I knew I would love this book, just from the blurb and I wasn’t wrong. Right from the start, it was so lovely to see the friendship between Finn and Luna grow, to see Finn let someone in, even just a little bit. Luna is such a great and charismatic kid. And that game they play, I want to learn!

I loved the slow and natural development of Finn and Angie’s relationship. I really enjoyed getting to see everything blossom and in such a beautiful way.

Secrets are a big part of Finn’s life and when they become revealed, you can certainly understand why! There is such mystery about her life and it definitely leaves you guessing right until the reveal.

Also love the appearance of Elodie from Robyn Nyx’s novel Let Love Be Enough!

An excellent read and I can’t wait for more from this author.
