West Oaks Heroes #3

The Four Day Fakeout

Rate this book
He’s gorgeous. Bossy. Dangerous.
And I’m his new undercover assignment.

Once, Jake Shelborne wanted to play my hero. We were best friends. Inseparable.

Now, he’s all grown up. Infinitely more infuriating, and infinitely hotter.

Jake is the federal agent assigned to infiltrate the nest of vipers known as my family. For the next four days, Jake will play my fiancé. From the way he can’t keep his hands off me, I’d say he’s enjoying this a little too much.

But I’m not the same girl I used to be. I want to control my own fate. I intend to save those I love, and I'll need Jake's help to make that happen.

There's only one complication I can't handle. Falling for him.

Single Dad, army and federal agent, childhood best friends to lovers with fake dating? Sign me up. Loved the plot, the intrigue, the family drama and infiltration. Hashing up the past, truths coming out, betrayal, plot twist but finally HEA. The kids were cute and am intrigued by Madison's story. The smut was absolutely hot and I loved Jake and Harper when they were together and the moments they had.
Saw this arc and immediately had to download it. I was going to download the previous book in the series a few months ago but I didn't. Now I know that I'm definitely going to read the whole series.

3.5⭐️

Having read the first 2 books of this series made me prepared to not trust everyone aside from the main characters (obviously). I even find Harper's dad suspish lol. However, the plot is all over the place and just felt flat. It also has a slow start and some parts are dragging for me (especially the first half of the book).

The previous book got me so interested to read Jake's book and I was excited to see him that finally be with someone. Maybe it's my high expectations for this book but I had a hard time connecting with the characters that I'm not really vibing with them that well. It didn't hit me as much as the previous books did. I was also hoping to see more interactions with the twins and Harper but we only get to have small scenes with them (which was a bummer because Madison and Eden's relationship was so cute! That one heartfelt scene with the twins and Harper didn't move me at all).

The ending (or actually the resolution) felt rushed. I thought the book will finish off with us having a lot of questions but then we still get to have a little surprise right before the epilogue and that wasn't how I expected it to be resolved. It felt a bit random and it literally came out of nowhere. But I do loved the epilogue though—Nash and Madison getting married!

Overall, this was an okay book. Not a miscommunication trope too so that is still a plus.I probably shouldn't have high expectations should there be a next book coming.

Oh. My. God! I loved this! I read books because I love a HEA romance and because it makes me feel good.
This story was everything I love about romance. Steamy, great chemistry and romantic gestures. The MC have a history and a special connection. Jake was swoon-worthy and Harper was perfect for him.
I’m not crazy about a suspense romance but I loved this one. I held on to every word. No skimming.
This was intense at times and romantic. And did I mention that I loved the ending? Hannah Shield is now one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend this. Thanks Booksirens!

3.5 out of 5 stars

I liked this book but when I asked myself if I’d read it again, the answer was probably not. It wasn’t because I didn’t enjoy it, I did but I have so many books I haven’t read yet and a large number of 5 star books. But I do recommend it.

Jake and Harper were close friends in high school. They came close to consummating their friendship but were interrupted. The next day Harper and her family had vanished. Once he finished high school, he joined the army and after that became a federal agent, married and had twins. He divorced not long after that but he and his wife remained close friends. This all happens in the prologue. The book starts when Jake is about to go on vacation with his kids and friends when his boss calls him saying he needs Jake to go undercover as a boyfriend to a four day get together with the crime family. One of the family members is all set to escape and will give the agency the info they need to take down the syndicate but she needs the help of an agent. The one scheduled to go undercover was in a car accident and they want Jake to take the assignment. He’s all set to refuse when his boss informs him the family member is non other than Harper. Jake is stunned. He still has a lot of unresolved feelings about Harper and he agrees to take the assignment.

Harper is equally stunned when she “meets” her partner and it’s none other than Jake, her high school best friend and with whom she’s never forgotten and still has deep feelings for. This is a perfect blend of romance and suspense. Since things were left unresolved between them, they have that to work on as well as not blowing their cover as they finalize their plans for Harper’s extraction. There is the added issue of also saving Harper’s younger sister who’s being held prisoner. Harper hadn’t told the feds that was part of the plan too.

There are a number of things keeping them from resolving things between them. There is a great deal of chemistry between them but Harper is very strong willed and the two of them differ on how to do things. Jake respects Harper and how strong she’s had to be but he also has the strong need to protect her. Her family is very dangerous, her cousin in particular, and they wouldn’t hesitate for a minute if they were to suspect what Jake and Harper are up to.

Both Jake and Harper are great characters. Both strong and tough, they’ve had to be. They’re brave determined to win. They try and fight their attraction but it’s very strong and, well sometimes chemistry wins. This is the third book in this series and while I DNF’ed the first two books, I’m really glad I didn’t give up and gave this one a chance.

I was so excited when I found out we were getting a book about Jake and Harper! This is an exciting second chance romance. Jake works for the DEA, and he gets put on an undercover operation involving his best friend from high school. Harper's family runs a front for selling illegal substances. She's never believed in her family's business, so she decides to work with the government to bring them down. Jake shows up and surprises Harper, and it was hilarious. She about broke the poor guys nose. They haven't seen each other in years, but those feelings never went away. Sparks go flying, and they can't keep their hands off each other. Jake is possessive, and he will do anything to protect Harper. My heart was so full when the I love you's were said. I adore this couple, and I can't wait for the next book!

I really liked reading this romantic and thrilling novel. I liked the suspenseful nature of the novel as well as the sweet second chance love story. I really liked the plot, the main characters and California as a setting for the story.

It is always nice when a novel takes you on a journey to an exotic location and this novel definitely did that. I really enjoyed reading it.

It is the first one I’ve read by the author but I’m looking forward to reading more in the future by the author. I’m sure other readers will enjoy reading this novel too especially if they are fans of romantic fiction and so I’m giving it 4 stars.

This was very interesting and intriguing read for me. I was hooked from the first pages. The pacing of the story in my opinion was good even though I think after the first few chapters the story kind of slowed down a little bit but after that it picked up the pace and I couldn't stop reading.

I loved the main and secondary characters I think they are well developed. There was a very good balance between romance and crime story.

Jake and Harper

This was an exciting and intense book. I loved that it picked up right where Madison and Nash’s story left off. It was a mash up of tropes, a little second chance, childhood friends, fake dating, single dad, organized crime, romantic suspense, it seemed to have it all.

Jake and Harper loved next door to each other for two years in high school. They were best friends pining after each other, but before they could act on their feelings, Harper’s family moved and Jake didn’t hear anything from the first girl he’d fell for aside from one postcard shortly after Harper’s family left. Now, fourteen years later, Jake is a divorced, single dad of twins and Harper bursts back into his life.

Harper and Jake go undercover to take down her family and save her sister and Jake gets answers to all those questions he’s had about Harper. Jake tries to remain professional, it’s only four days, but he quickly realizes there is no way to turn his feelings for Harper off. They both dream about what ifs and possibilities that could happen after their job is done. They’ve always had an easy connection and intense chemistry, but can they find their way through their pasts to a future together?

One of the things I loved about this book is that there was a significant time period after their undercover op that Jake and Harper used to get to know each other as adults. I loved that they grew their friendship again before jumping into a romantic relationship. I loved Jake’s relationship with his ex, and his ability to be friends with someone who broke his heart.

Overall this was an intense and engaging read. A lot can happen in four days!

The Four Day Fakeout is a steamy, suspenseful second-chance, fake-dating, contemporary romance.

Jake and Harper were teenage best friends who were quite thirsty for each other. Unbeknownst to "boy scout" Jake, though, Harper's family was in organized crime and was abruptly relocated to another city. Jake and Harper don't meet again for over a decade.

They're only brought back together when Harper decides to bring down the family crime syndicate in an attempt to rescue her sister who is being used by Harper's uncle as a pawn to control Harper and her dad. Now-DEA-officer Jake is pulled in to replace the injured agent who was to play Harper's boyfriend over a four day weekend to gather the evidence necessary to prosecute.

There's a lot to like about this story, including both main characters. After a rocky start, their reconnection feels real and respectful, full of mutual appreciation and lust and caring, even when they're not being fully honest with each other.

Jake has a lifelong reputation as a Good Guy because of his strong determination to always do what's right, but his army and government work has required him to do some things he's not proud of, and he's especially not proud of the way he felt when carrying out some of those tasks.

Harper has a lifetime of carrying around the fear and stress and secrecy of belonging to a crime family that she knows has done terrible things. She wants nothing more than to find her sister, put the family bad guys in jail, and try to establish some kind of normal life.

The author does a good job of showing how these two are good for each other and can help each other heal and grow. She also does a good job of keeping us aware of the constant danger, and of keeping us guessing as to who is trustworthy and who is not; many times I wanted to yell "Don't tell them that!" when Harper or Jake would reveal something to someone I feared would use it against them (Sometimes I was right, sometimes I was wrong!).

A few elements of the story didn't work quite as well for me. Jake's family was wonderful and unbelievably supportive, to the degree that they sent mixed messages about what comes first, work or family. Many of the secondary characters aren't fully developed, but that would have been a huge task, as many as there are. Finally, I had to suspend my disbelief that Harper's crime lord uncle, as cold and ruthless and suspicious as he was, wouldn't have his own security team, so as not to have to depend on the teams run by his two sons.

Overall, The Four Day Fakeout was an enjoyable romantic suspense and a good introduction to a series I might read more of.

The Four Day Fakeout is the third book in a new West Oaks Heroes series by Hannah Shield. It can be read as a standalone in an interconnected series of standalones. Such magnificent and fantastic read; well-written storyline; real and relatable characters; delightfully hot, steamy with funny, flirty banter and an emotional rollercoaster. This book has it all from suspense, romance, to danger, steam, lighter moments and mystery. The Four Day Fakeout is a gripping, gritty, raw and powerful page turner.

I absolutely LOVED it. Jake and Harper were so freaking perfect and insanely good for each other. Now they were ready for their second chance. The steamy moments and smexy times were smoldering hot as always. I completely adored the unique storyline, real characters and a build-up. Jake and Harper are fighting for their happily ever after. Only there is a problem: their existence and plans are threatened by the demons of their past and by Harper’s family. They became became stronger and more solid while being undercover. They are even more passionate, swoony and intense and their connection and chemistry even more sizzling. They just needed to learn how to open up and communicate. Jake and Harper are explosive and perfectly imperfect. . I loved how they blossomed and thrived, got their chance at love and a new beginning.

An absolutely amazing book with everything you could possibly want if you love mysteries, thrillers, character driven storyline, romance, family lies, deceit and danger. Take a chance on this book and series because you won’t regret it.

Harper has always kept her secrets, even from her best friend. For years she didn’t dare go against her family, except now she has a reason to be brave. He knew this undercover mission would result in negative outcomes, but when he saw who was involved, he couldn’t turn back. Harper and Jake will need to be extra careful when pretending to be dating. Harper’s family can be dangerous, but so can their feelings for one another.

I love every Hannah Shield book I’ve read so far, and this one is no different. This series is filled with suspense and romance. Every page keeps you hooked and guessing what will happen next. Hannah Shield's writing style is captivating and engaging, making it impossible to put the book down. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves romantic suspense.

Harper and Jake had a second chance at love, but now they need to stay alive. Harper’s secret about her family is out and Jake tries to keep his distance, but their feelings for each other are still there. They will need to trust each other to survive.

I was sad that Jake would leave his kids disappointed, but also glad he would help Harper. Even though she kept secrets from him. It was filled with twists, which made my love for romantic suspense grow. Jake with his kids is heartwarming. His relationship with them is cute. I loved every second of this book and I can’t wait to read more.

Brava, Ms. Shield! Another winner that I couldn't put down. Happy sigh.

I adored the previous novel--Madison and Nash's--so I was predisposed to love this story about Madison's brother Jake. And it didn't disappoint. Jake and Harper's story is a second-chances one with loads of swoony time, but it's also filled with a ton of suspense, just the way I like it. A few things required me to suspend my disbelief a little further than normal, but that's something I'm willing to do for a book as well written as this one.

I'm not particularly a fan of romance that includes organized crime, mostly because it just seems like something that would be impossible to get away from, but the angle here is good. After years, Harper's finally ready to make a break from her notorious family. She doesn't realize that the undercover DEA agent coming along for the ride is a boy from her past, one that she loved but had to leave when her family left the west coast return to Chicago when she was 18. She's thrilled to be reunited with Jake, but she's also incredibly stressed about what she's trying to do. It's not easy to break away from a crime family, and it's almost impossible to know who to trust.

As a reader, I'm usually pretty good about seeing the way a suspense novel is going to play out. Here though, I really wasn't exactly sure what would happen. I had high hopes that were eventually realized, but not necessarily at the pace I was expecting them to. Part of that connects to what I said previously about having to suspend my disbelief. And again, with a less well-written novel, I wouldn't have been able to. But here, I was willing to go for it. Jake and Harper are great together, and Harper is great with Jake's family. It was also good to see the heroes from the previous novel again.

This book is the third in a series but my second because I was too stupid to pick up the opportunity to read an ARC of the first book. (I've purchased a copy and it's at the top of my TBR pile, though.) As each book starts with a number counting down successfully from six, I can only assume there are at least three more left in this series. I can't wait to read each and every one of them.

Oh, and for those who are fans of the author's Bennett Security series, there's a tiny nod to the series towards the end. Squee!

I received an ARC of this book from the author and BookSirens. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!

Well written, interesting stories, nice characters, some narrative choices did not work for me and slowed down the flow of the story.

The Four day fake-out is the story of Harper and Jake, who were neighbours and friends in their teens for only two years, and reunited under strained circumstances 14 years later. Back in high school Harper left abruptly with no goodbye, no explanations, just a postcard and no contact info. 14 years later, Harper has decided to cooperate with the authorities to bring down her family’s illegal business and finally break free from an unwanted role she had to grow into. She is assigned an undercover agent who becomes unavailable just before the big four day event planned by Harper’s family. Jake is sent as a last minute replacement to play her fake fiancé. It’s hard to keep focused on the undercover mission when so many emotions are boiling and you have to stay constantly close to the person who is causing them.

I am not a fan of the fake relationship trope, so this one is on me: the reading started already uphill.
I did not quite get the characters. I think Hannah Shield tried to give depth to the characters: for example, Jake appears like the knight in shiny armour, but he actually has more layers. I missed an explanation on how Hannah and Jake came to have these personalities, there were some bits and pieces, but not extensive enough. The individual background stories felt incomplete, like an ingredient thrown in a recipe without making it stew for the time necessary: it doesn’t blend as well. How did Harper grow into the family business and how and when did she decide to get out?(Little spoiler, just to clarify what I was missing: )
I did not expect Jake’s alpha male side to be so pronounced, I rolled my eyes at some of the dynamics.
Some scenes are quite steamy, and, in spite of not being my kind of steam, they were quite pleasantly effective: still drooling here!
I thought I had Wren and Mia figured out, but they turned out not predictable as I thought, which was interesting.

I like Hannah Shield's writing style, I wish she added some more depth to the characters, but I will certainly enjoy her next books. I might be more careful in choosing tropes closer to my favourites.

Suspense, danger, action, and steam!

The Four Day Fakeout is book 3 in the West Oaks series and is the best so far! Jake Shelbourne is former army, and a current DEA agent with twin four-year-olds, plus an ex that he’s friends with. His life is complicated enough, and he is taking a long overdue vacation with his kids, his sister, and her boyfriend (we met Madison and Nash in The Five Minute Mistake – book #2). Just before leaving on vacation, Jake is called in by his boss to replace an injured agent on an assignment to infiltrate a crime family weekend happening locally with the informant. He doesn’t want to do it and feels bringing him in last minute is a disaster waiting to happen. Then his boss tells him who the informant is… Harper, a girl from his past. For two years they were best friends while she lived in West Oaks with her family. Then suddenly she was gone. A mystery he has never been able to solve, and he still feels something after all this time. One cryptic note from her was all he received in 14 years. Yeah, he wants to know what happened to her and so do I!

Harper Caldwell has been waiting for the day when she, her father, and her sister could escape their Caldwell crime family and bring them down at the same time. She is surprised to find that Jake Shelbourne is the agent she’ll be spending the weekend with and is not all that sure she can handle it. Her “family” is expecting her to introduce her new boyfriend and she’s very wary about what will happen, plus she is searching for her sister she hasn’t seen in six months.

The plot twists and turns and action and suspense kept the story moving and evolving at a fast pace. Not knowing whom to trust kept me on the edge of my seat. The chemistry between Jake and Harper is palpable and when they get together, they are HOT!! Jake is amazing! I loved his character in the previous book in the West Oaks series and was pleased I would be able to see him get his HEA. Jake is so protective of Harper and immediately feels more for her than just the mission. He is great at what he does but also fears the shadows in him can bleed into his life with his children. I loved his twins too; they are adorable and precocious. I was sucked into their story from the beginning and have a bit of a book hangover as well. It was good to see previous characters again, and I’m looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend reading this book and this series. I received an arc of this book from Booksprout, and this is my honest review.

This is the third book in the West Oaks Heroes series, and it was a good read. Anything Hannah releases, I will automatically read. This book, like the other, was easy to read, had a great balance between the underlining suspense plot and the romance between the main characters.

This follows Jake and Harper. Jake and Harper were neighbors and best friends in high school. But one day, Harper disappears without a trace. Fourteen years later, Jake is a single father and a federal agent. He gets called up to go undercover for a mission to infiltrate a crime family and is informed that the person leaking information to them is his high school best friend, Harper.

Harper has been working to take down her crime family and help her father and sister escape. She has been leaking information to the DEA and already had an undercover agent working with her. When that agent is out of commission, the person who takes his place is the person who she left behind fourteen years prior. Jake.

This was a good read. I loved Jake as a character. I love me some protective heroes, and Jake was definitely one of them. He really cared for Harper and wanted to make sure that she and her family get out safely. The way he talked to Roman was funny. Harper was great as well. She got on my nerves a little, but I grew to love her. She was strong and very determined to help her father and sister and take down her criminal family members.

I loved seeing Madison, Jake’s sister, appear in this book as well. And Mia was funny; I saw bits of myself in her.

The way the plot progressed was great. The plot twist was amazing. Things really went south, and I felt like I was amid the chaos. However, the plot twist at the end felt a little rushed. I knew something was going to happen, but when it did; I felt like it was over too quickly.

Overall, enjoyed this and can’t wait for the next book in the series.

*Received ARC for honest review

Who is Jake and why was his story so intriguing?? When we were introduced to him in Madison and Nash’s story, I knew there would be quite a story to tell, but wow, this threw me a curve ball. It was different from the other novels (in an extremely good way) and I honestly could not get enough of it. We’ve been introduced to different mafias and crimes throughout Shield’s novels but there hasn’t been one quite like this. This one, I feel, takes it to another level and it is nothing short of amazing. I have read and followed Hannah Shield from her very first book (Hands Off) and I can assure you there is no disappointment. Jake and Harper’s story is everything you didn’t know you needed. This was honestly not how I pictured Jake to be, but I am glad I was wrong. He is all kinds of handsome and oh just so manly. Haha. When he goes undercover, things get crazy and complicated. There are risks and there a lot of questions. Shield does a great job at giving the characters layers as well. You know how they are on the surface, how they are with their family, but you also get to know and understand how they are with their partners and knowing their inner most thoughts and insecurities. And that is what we get to see when you dive into Jake’s story. The suspense, the thrill, action – it definitely plays on your anxiety and any book that can make you feel what the characters feel, I think it is safe to say the job is well done. Jake and Harper hold something special within each other and it is the kind that makes you ache because you know, from reading page one that there will be a roller coaster and a storm before you get to all of the wonderful bits. I was not expecting to get Jake’s story so soon but I am incredibly happy that Shield gave it to us.

I'm probably repeating myself, but this series is getting better with every new release. Seems like we're on a countdown as the titles of all the books have something to do with numbers and time.

Here we get the story of Jake and Harper. We met Jake in the previous book, he's Madison's brother, father of twins, whom he has shared custody of with his ex-wife. He's DEA and he mostly does undercover operations. And this is where he's reunited with a ghost from his past.

Harper is Jake's old neighbor, they were really close 14 years ago for about 2 years. There was always a bit of a mystery hanging around Harper but Jake didn't mind. He liked her the way she was even though he would've loved to know more. When she suddenly disappeared from his life he was devastated but as they say, life goes on.

Fast forward 14 years and Jake is called to go undercover as the fake boyfriend of a woman who has ties to the mafia and wants to become an informant to get out of that life and to save her loved ones. Imagine his surprise when it turns out to be Harper.

At first he's angry because she lied to him all those years ago but soon enough he understands why she had to keep silent. They agree to work together and to pose as a couple in order to get Jake infiltrated and able to take the family down.

What we get is a lot of twists and turns, suspicions all around and a whole of sexy times. I loved that the relationship between Jake and his ex-wife was still one of great friends and that she was portrayed as some evil woman.

As said this series just keeps getting better and I'm already looking forward to the next book.

Thrilling, steamy romance with twists-and-turns and humor…Wonderful!
If you like sizzle in your romance, read this book! This is the third book in this series of standalone stories and I can’t get enough. Jake and Harper’s passion will cause your kindle to burn. Just joking but I know I was getting quite warm reading some sections. Wink! There is even a revisit of a couple we met in the last book, “The Five Minute Mistake” because the female lead in that book is Jake’s cop sister Madison. These stories revolve around the little town of West Oaks, California.
At 18yo Jake and Harper were teen BFF’s and secretly both harbored feelings for the other. Overnight Harper and her family disappear leaving Jake heart broken. Fast-forward 14 years later and Jake is a 32yo divorced man with twin five-year-olds: Riley and Hudson. Jake is an agent with the DEA. His latest surprise case is to get a confidential informant out of her situation. You guessed it! He encounters his former BFF Harper Caldwell although when he knew her, she was Harper Kendrick. Now he knows why all the secrecy. He often thought Harper wasn’t sharing everything with him. Jake is hot as himself but when he becomes the dashing albeit sleazy Jake Worthington…super alpha! So hot!!
Oh. My. Word. This is a thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat to the very end. There were twists too. Just when I thought it was going to be OK…BAM. A twist in the tale. Harper will be confounded with what she discovers. Will it all work out anyway? Loved. This. Story. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens. The cover model is the perfect Jake!

Compelling, action-packed second-chance romance!

Jake and Harper were best friends and almost dating back in high school when she was abruptly uprooted and moved to another city. Fourteen years later, Jake is a DEA agent, and is assigned to a case where she's the key point of contact and they have to pretend to be dating for a four-day stakeout. Sounds easy, but the story is so much more complex than I expected.

I loved their chemistry, and how they approached their shared history. I could really feel for Harper's conflicted emotions, what she was risking, and what she was willing to risk for those she loved. I loved the way Jake tried to do the right thing and how hard it was for him to wrestle with all the different interpretations of what "the right thing" really was. Their love story was raw, honest, and deeply passionate, and I loved every bit of it.

This story kept me glued to each page right from the start and I couldn't put it down until I was finished. I loved the way Nash and Madison were included, and the way their part in this book worked as an extended epilogue for their own story (The Five Minute Mistake, Book 2 in the series). I was thrilled to see how Jake and Harper's own HEA was wrapped up as well.

This is a fantastic addition to an amazing series, and I highly recommend it for anyone who loves contemporary romantic suspense. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a complimentary copy. I want to start by saying I liked Jake and Harper but if I am honest I liked Madison and Nash better from The Five Minute Mistake and Janie and Sean from The Six Night Truce. I just did not get that connection with Harper and Jake like I did the other two couples.

Jake single dad co-parenting with his ex, his twins Riley and Hudson. He is DEA and he is finally taking a vacation with his twins, Madison and Nash when he gets pulled into an undercover op. The op is to pose as the boyfriend of Harper, she lived in his neighborhood when they were teenagers but before they could really act on how they felt about each other her family disappears in the middle of the night.

I felt bad for Harper but she seemed to make a lot of quick not so smart moves that literally would get her and her family killed by her mob uncle and cousins. Harper and her sister Wren were pawns used by her uncle and cousins - what an awful family.

Harper and Jake do still have that strong connection from the past but Jake starts off as standoffish, all business. As they spend time together you can feel the barrier between them start to fade. Will Jake save Harper from her family or will they all die trying?

♥️This is the third book in the West Oaks series and was great as two previous. It can be read as standalone but I recommend to read previous two books too.♥️

I was really looking forward to read Jake story, he is Madison's brother from previous book where we meet him for the first time- single dad with twins, working for DEA.
After 14 years he meets again his teenage crush Harper. She disapered from his live unexpected and without saying goodbye, but now shebis back, her live is in danger and because things in lives are always comicated she is his new job.
Hovewer he tries to keep the distance, soon he releases, he still have feelings for her and they have great chemistry together and are mean to be in the future. But Harper is in danger, has complicated family, he has to think about his children. Is it posiible for them to have a future? ♥️📖

The story has great tempo, step by step we learn why did Harper leave when she was young and why she didn't contact Jake, there are so many great side characters, about you will have doubts who is good and who is bad, many unexpected twists.... I did really enjoy reading this story and I am really lookong forward for the next story! ♥️👍📖.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksirens and I am voluntarily leaving a review ♥️📖.

I was enthralled with this story involving Jake (Madison’s brother from the previous book the Five Minute Mistake) and Harper, his previous love from childhood who mysteriously left town unexpectedly in his youth. Alas they are unexpectedly brought back together to take on the mission the FBI has set up for Harper, the thrill and suspense surrounding their situation kept me literally playing detective along with them. As Harper tries to find her sister and solve all the riddles and clues she and Jake have uncovered, I was right there trying to do it with them. That’s a sign of great writing! The threat of their fake relationship being discovered was riveting throughout this entire book. As they were surrounded by the enemy and not knowing who, if anyone, could be trusted, I was turning pages faster than my eyes could keep up - wanting to know what happened next. I really enjoyed this suspenseful thriller and was very glad for the HEA ending but my heart was also gripped by the surprises, twists and losses along the way. Thank you once again to Hannah Shield for her incredible writing skills.

ANOTHER ONE!
Absolutely loved this book, I loved the plot, I loved the chemistry, I loved Jake acting like a sleaze bag to pretend to be "Jake Worthington". The plot twists were amazing and I loved how Harper became a heroine like character.

I would've loved to hear more about Jake's thoughts about his kids but that doesn't make it bad.

I did however enjoy that Jake had his own dilemma about his line of work and taking lives.

ADRIENNE DESERVES A TROPHY CUZ DANG GURL, YOU DOING ALL THE HEAVY LIFTING 😂

It might be bad of me, but still to the end, I hate Wren, like how could youuuuu.

I was worried about the ending since the rest of the book seemed so thicc with the plot and then it just seemed like it stood still and would be underwhelming but the author didn't disappoint. The suspense towards the ending was good. Not amazing but it was good.

My only urk with this book was the random spicy scene where the author decides to make Harper think that Jake's armpit and pubic hair is sexy...not my cuppa.

Overall, it was amazing, keep it up! I hope the next books hold up to this expectation.

Jake Shelbourne and Harper Kendrick were close friends in high school, sharing interests, spending time together until the day her family suddenly moved to Chicago. He went on with his life plans, often wondering about Harper, to join the military and is now an agent with the DEA. His marriage didn’t last, but he has two wonderful five year old children; life is good. Well, good until he has to cancel his plans to go on vacation with his family. A case has come up and he has no choice but to step in. An informant is turning over information against the Caldwell crime family and he is shocked to learn that the informant is Harper Kendrick aka Caldwell. Harper never expected to see Jake again, but here they are trying to take down the family, a family she was forced to assist. He poses as her fiancé as they face threats and possible death and their growing attraction. Danger, suspense, hot romance and hopefully a second chance for them. Another great romantic thriller from Hannah Sheild. This is the 3rd book in the ‘West Oaks Heroes’ series; all the books are stand-alone stories but are more fun if read in order. This story is about Madison’s (from the previous book ‘Five Minute Mistake’) brother Jack who is an undercover DEA agent. I liked the way the story starts with a ‘prologue’ set fourteen years before the main action when Jack’s family are neighbours of his schoolfriend, Harper. They are on the brink of a relationship when Harper’s family suddenly move away without warning. Fast forward and Jack’s holiday is interrupted when he has to go undercover with a CI in a notorious crime family. I love the fact that this is his and Harper’s unexpected reunion and the secrets of her sudden past departure are revealed. I really enjoyed how the action is continuously fast paced whilst Harper & Jack’s feelings deepen against the backdrop of the ever-present danger presented by her family. A great read with plenty of thrills and spills along the way.

I absolutely loved this story!! This series keeps getting better and better!
Once, Jake and Harper were best friends. Inseparable, until she disappeared without saying goodbye. Now, he’s all grown up, infuriating, and infinitely hotter. Jake is the federal agent assigned to infiltrate her criminal family. For the next four days, he will play Harper’s fiancé in order to help her to save her dad and her sister in exchange of information. But once they have to share a room, things will get a bit out of control…
OMG these two! So hot and sexy! This book is action-packed, with many wonderful sexy times, two cute little kids (his children) and a mafia family. It took me a couple of chapters to feel the story, but once I was hook, I couldn’t stop reading. It’s addictive, hot, emotional and engaging. Harper is an amazing character and Jake is now my new favorite book boyfriend.
I highly recommend this book and this author. I’ve read all this series and is super addictive.

Jake had one great friend in the latter years of high school. A girl he thought would always be there. However she disappeared one night, and he never heard from her again. Now he’s pulled in from his vacation to go under cover in place of an injured colleague.

For Harper the best time of her life was when she was living in that little town with Jake as her best friend. However family obligations mean her dad’s got to toe the line, and the rest of her family too. She never forgot Jake though.
Fate brings these two together unexpectedly, and even though Jake is there to help her Harper is still keeping secrets. It will take them both, some fancy footwork, and help from an unexpected source to get the results they want.

I’ve read the previous two books in the series, and enjoyed them. This one is a good addition. It has loads going on a few good twists and surprising turns of events. It’s one that holds your attention, as you just might miss something with the changes going on.

This book drew me in right from the first. Jake and Harper are two fascinating and engaging characters. Yes, they have flaws, quirks and doubts just like most humans, but they also have an inner strength and resilience that has helped them move forward when life got tough. Their story includes a second chance at love, redemption and personal healing. Posing as an engaged couple, they work together to bring down a drug cartel, which unfortunately involves Harper’s own family. The dangerous investigation heightens their awareness of each other, sparks their chemistry and desires to new heights, and deepens their feelings for each other. They want to forger a future together, but first they have to survive this investigation.

I loved the banter, the steam and the emotional moments. Jake and Harper make a formidable team and an awesome couple. I don’t want to spoil this wonderful book for future readers, so I will simply conclude that book is an enjoyable and compelling read.

Outstanding crime thriller with a romantic element.
I have loved all the books in this series from Hannah, but this one is probably my favourite so far.
It's well written, interesting beyond the romance, with it being a well paced crime thriller with twists and turns to keep you on your toes.
Harper lived across the road from Jake for two years when they were teenagers, and they were best friends, but he always knew she was keeping secrets until one day she was just gone. Fast forward 14 years and Jake is pulled into a last minute undercover job with none other than Harper. Turns out her family are the Caldwell crime family running drugs through the shipping company Harper and her father own. But she's had enough and wants out giving up the extended family along the way.
Let's just say nothing goes as planned but the events will have you on the edge of your seat and the developing relationship between Jake and Harper will take you on a roller-coaster ride of emotions.
I was invested in the story early and enjoyed it all the way through to the well deserved happy ending.

Perfection! The story of Jake and Harper is everything.

So first, there’s this cute teenage romance. Everyone loves a good teenage romance, but they so rarely last. Such is the case here; one day, Harper is just gone. Fortunately. Jake and Harper never really forget each other and although the stakes are high when they meet again, they can’t fight their passion for one another.

As romance blossoms, Jake is trying to protect Harper from her own family. The twists and turns! I love that, through it all, there is no question Jake will protect Harper and that they care about each other. Meanwhile, everything else is in question. Who can they trust? Will they make it out alive? Is happily ever after in the cards for anyone?

I couldn’t put this twisty romance down and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
