Tyler and Garrett are stepbrothers since the two boys got thrown together into one family at the age of ten when their parents married in a whirlwind romance. Luckily for them both, they took to each other right from the start and were tight ever since. Some would say a little too tight but I found it was really sweet, tho. —I even find it has a touch of taboo as these boys practically grew up like brothers for the last decade.
When they graduated high school suddenly everything changes when Tyler finds his stepbrother in a sexual encounter with another guy. He’s turned on and curious as hell.
The writing felt very simple (if not to say juvenile) to me and first I thought it was because we begin the story in the head of a 10-year-old but it hadn’t gotten better later in the book. What happened after Tyler caught Garrett with that other dude made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Tyler was coming onto Garrett, practically begging him to experiment with him. To not destroy the tight brotherly bond they have, Garrett tries to refuse, but Tyler keeps trying to convince him.
And while these two sort out the thing between them, all the teenage-drama imaginable breaks loose in this book. Maybe it’s me or maybe it truly was too much, but I’m so over high-school romances like that.
Apart from that, and I hate to say that, there was unfortunately absolutely nothing new or special about this book. I was surprised and disappointed because I very much liked Joelle's xmas novel last year.

The best part of this story is the reveal of when and how feelings started to develop for both Tyler and Garrett. Over the course of this fast-moving, low-angst story is two stepbrothers who have a deep love for one another, and getting to see both explore their feelings is entertaining to see.
Overall I really enjoyed this story. Stepbrothers are always an intriguing premise. I was so interested in how this author was going to tackle this complicated trope. I think it was very well done and makes me so excited to see more from her. Strictly Curious is a great story, with wonderful characters and a fantastic relationship that is at the heart of the story.

Strictly Curious is a sweet stepbrother to lovers story. I was really excited to read this book, as I love a stepbrother/taboo romance. The book starts with a flashback to when the boys first meet at 10 years old. There are additional flashbacks deftly woven throughout the story that range from when the boys were 10 to their current age of 19.
This was getting dangerous. He didn’t know how much I wanted him. How attracted to him I was. How beautiful he was to me. But this was Tyler, my stepbrother. It was wrong to want him but I had no control over it.
Garrett has always been attracted to Tyler. He was drawn to him from the moment they met at 10 years old. Garrett is bisexual and has been sexually active for awhile. One day Tyler hears something strange and goes to investigate. Tyler is really surprised by what he sees and this awakens some new feelings and urges in him, specifically towards Garrett.
This wasn’t a good idea. All of this had been a terrible, beautiful idea. There was no undoing anything at this point. It was ruined the second I put my hands on him a few days ago.
Unbeknownst to Tyler, a lot of their friends and even some family already thought there might be more to their relationship. Tyler is a virgin, so there is a lot of sexual discovery and firsts on his part.
Maybe it was weird that even at nineteen Garrett still crawled into my bed sometimes. It had become second nature over the last nine years, so much that I didn’t even bother questioning it. Even when he’d wrap an arm around me and pull me against him. We were really close, maybe closer than normal.
Garrett was very considerate with Tyler since he was a virgin. He constantly checked in with him to make sure he was ok with what they were doing. That being said, Garrett did make a few mistakes along the way regarding telling too many people about their budding relationship when Tyler wasn't ready to discuss it with others.
This was stupid and reckless, and part of me gave no fucks. I was amped up on adrenaline and the need to feel and hear him. The feel of him against me was drugging and addictive. Mine, all mine.
I loved all the little stolen kisses and intimate moments that Tyler and Garrett had. The sex was also very steamy!
I needed his lips on me like I needed my next breath.
There is not a lot of angst in this book and when the drama does start it is in the form of alleged friends being obnoxious and outing their relationship. While this book is considered taboo due to the stepbrother dynamic, it felt a bit more like taboo light. Garrett's mom was amazing in this and even Tyler's dad came around fairly quickly.
He was everything to me, and had been everything to me. Ever since we were kids.

Strictly Curious is a cute low-angst stepbrother to lovers story! It is a sweet story of sexual discovery between two teens. I liked how we get to see their lives from when they first met at 10 to the present at 19.
We have Garrett, who has had very non-brotherly love towards his new stepbrother Tyler for a long time. In order to not lose the closeness they have, he has kept not only his unbrotherly love but his sexuality from Tyler. However, things change when Tyler catches Garrett in a compromising situation.
This was a cute sexual discovery story between two teenagers (19) as they entered adulthood. I always enjoy a virgin MC, and I liked how Garrett took it slowly with Tyler. I enjoyed the intimate moments, the touching, sleeping together and cuddling! The sex was hot as well!
While the topic is taboo, the book did not feel like it was. While there were some issues of them getting together via their parents, friends and other conflicts, it was resolved relatively quickly without too much drama. There were no moments of "we should not be together; let's break up", which I am thankful for.
I would say most of the angst and issues come from being outed rather than the stepbrother aspect.
An issue I had was Garrett outing his own brother. He kept his sexuality a secret from him, which is fair enough. Yet, he had no problems outing his brother to people he never even knew. It doesn't matter if they're your friends or are also queer. Never out them before they are ready, and do not take away their agency to control who they want to come out to. The story addresses this, but I felt bad for Tyler.
Overall it was a cute easy read. If you like low-angst stepbrothers to lovers story you'll enjoy this story!

I enjoyed the pacing it was easy, sweet and exciting. It started right onto the story which was great! I love books that are just straight to the point.
I finished this in one sitting. It was hard not to. I adore that Tyler really looked up to Garrett. I could see that clearly in the beginning. He trusted Garrett so much even with figuring out his sexuality. The switch from before to after was explained really well. I could see their emotional bond right there. It all makes sense what Tyler was feeling. So sweet. I love their dynamic too, opposites, but fit together.
I do think Ava and Lucy were great side characters but at some point I was annoyed because it felt like there was too much meddling from their side. That was just my personal issue anyway. I’m so glad they were lesbians. The diversity 💜❤️
Even though the 85% mark was kinda predictable with Toby, but in that moment, I truly adore them and how both of them resolved it. It was them against the world. And turns out the world wasn’t so bad after all. All of them were so accepting, it was so positive. So sweet so adorbs.

Leaving the safety of the blanket and his arms was scary. I didn’t want to part with him. He had always made me feel safe, and now when I was so vulnerable, I was naked without him in our little cocoon. I shivered as the cool air of the air-conditioned room hit my skin.

When it comes to stepbrother books, I always want to read them but I rarely ever like them. The only one I can say I loved with everything I am is Wrath by Ella James but that book is so much more than it’s trope whereas this was just a superficial boring slog I wish I DNF’d. I’ve been better about DNFing but if I’m honest, I am a super procrastinator and was putting off cleaning my bathroom. I thought this book would improve but sadly I think I’d have rather scrubbed my toilet instead because I hated this. Actually, hate is way too much feeling for a book so damn boring.💀
So Garrett and Tyler are stepbrothers since age 10. They are the same age, just graduated high school, super close and still share the same bed. Garrett is bi but hasn’t told anyone especially not Tyler because he’s in love with him. One day Tyler walks in on Garrett getting blown by his friend and everything changes. Tyler is super curious which is weird because he’s never thought about guys that way before especially his stepbrother. Tyler badgers Garrett into letting them experiment with each other even though Garrett repeatedly says no because he doesn’t want to ruin their close brotherly relationship.
I’m bored just writing this out 💀 but there was nothing new about this. It was just the same boring shit that always happens when stepbrothers cross the line but with a juvenile writing style and superficial characters. I couldn’t have given a shit less about these two characters and the stupid drama near the end just made me roll my eyes. Oh and nice reaction dad “how dare you corrupt my son?” When it was HIS son that badgered his way into Garrett’s bed. Dad should have had the no means no talk with Tyler. Even the sex bored me! I skimmed the last 30% but I should have DNF’d it.
I feel like I have read this same book a thousand times. It was so generic, predictable and boring. This had no imagination or creativity put into it and that’s why I’m giving it 1 star.

How many boys do we have in this book who’s names start with a „T“? For reals? My, this was quite annoying. And this cousin … or the ex-girlfriend … 🙄🙄🙄

So, I skipped a lot. Sorry for this, but it was too annoying.
I tried to concentrate on the simple things between the stepbrothers. And most of it was really good, but I didn't like those jumps between warm and cold from Garrett and his behavior towards his stepbrothers was mostly out of order.
He didn’t blame me? God! It was so infuriating that he’d told these strangers about us, regardless of his good intentions. I wasn’t stupid enough to think people wouldn’t react negatively to two stepbrothers fucking around.
Somehow the right feelings were missing. I don't quite know how to put it, but if Garrett feels something for Tyler for years and wishes so badly that there was more, then that has to come across somehow.
I didn't feel it, unfortunately. 😪😪😪

This book was really good. I honestly couldn’t put it away.
I don’t know what I loved most about this one.
But Garretts and Tylers dynamic is by far my favourite. I couldn’t get enough of them.
I loved reading about them growing up together. There was just something special about them.
One aspect I liked as well was that there was no evil stepmom/stepdad clichés. I love a healthy and good relationship with the family.
Even tho it was little fast paced sometimes I very much enjoyed reading this one.

This was very sweet but it also made me feel very old. Everything about it had a juvenile feel to it, which makes sense because the characters are in high school so it’s probably pretty fitting but everything just felt so young! I couldn’t get into it and did skim parts. The dialogue and the friendship drama made the characters feel more like 15/16, but the steam factor and the whole taboo stepbrothers thing makes it feel like it’s not really meant to be YA appropriate? I don’t know, this is probably a lovely book for the right audience but that wasn’t me.

+ Their parents. Even without a lot of page time, it was clear they loved their children

o I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. My review remains honest and unbiased
o Tyler spent about 75% of the book very fixated on finding a label for himself, and then suddenly it was dropped and never brought up again
o Tyler's twisted ankle was so bad they had to cut their holiday short, and then it was healed immediately and he could get yanked around in the shower tub without falling over (which is already a major accomplishment without a compromised ankle)
The bad
- In this book, we have characters named Tyler, Trevor, Tony, Toby and Todd. I have no idea who is who anymore
- It was implied multiple times that having queer friends doesn't necessarily make you queer, but having a lot of queer friends does
- Garrett: "I had a very large group of people I'd previously hooked up with. It wasn't something I was always proud of, but sex was easy for me and it helped make me as popular as I was." On the same page, not even three seconds later: "I'd seen red when Toby had his hands on him. Tyler was mine, and I had to establish that." What a hypocrite. He later on also mentions getting pissed off when Tyler flirted with his then-girlfriend (while Garrett was hooking up left and right) and he's afraid he missed his chance with Tyler when Tyler and his then-girlfriend kiss. What the hell, Garrett? What chance?
- Garrett claims he always used protection when Tyler asks to forego condoms, but earlier in the book he had unprotected oral sex with one of the guys whose name starts with a T, and he also already had unprotected oral sex with Tyler
- When Tyler finally expresses (a lot of) interest in Garrett, all of Garrett's inner monologues repeat again and again what a horrible idea it is. That's really unfair to Tyler
- Garrett outed Tyler to his friends, including their cousin! What the hell? What gives him the right to do that?
- That cousin was annoying, invasive and an overall nuisance. She also meddled in their relationship way too much, while she had no right to

I really wanted to like this book, because the premise sounded very promising. However, I really had issues with Garrett's character. Add to that the annoying cousin, all the guys with a T-name, and the weird plot with the 'antagonists', and this story just didn't work for me. I wish Garrett had been less of a jealous hypocrite handing out Tyler's secrets like candy, because Tyler deserved someone to take care of him properly. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this book.

o Tyler spent about 75% of the book very fixated on finding a label for himself, and then suddenly it was dropped and never brought up again
o Tyler's twisted ankle was so bad they had to cut their holiday short, and then it was healed immediately and he could get yanked around in the shower tub without falling over (which is already a major accomplishment without a compromised ankle)
The bad
- In this book, we have characters named Tyler, Trevor, Tony, Toby and Todd. I have no idea who is who anymore
- It was implied multiple times that having queer friends doesn't necessarily make you queer, but having a lot of queer friends does
- Garrett: "I had a very large group of people I'd previously hooked up with. It wasn't something I was always proud of, but sex was easy for me and it helped make me as popular as I was." On the same page, not even three seconds later: "I'd seen red when Toby had his hands on him. Tyler was mine, and I had to establish that." What a hypocrite. He later on also mentions getting pissed off when Tyler flirted with his then-girlfriend (while Garrett was hooking up left and right) and he's afraid he missed his chance with Tyler when Tyler and his then-girlfriend kiss. What the hell, Garrett? What chance?
- Garrett claims he always used protection when Tyler asks to forego condoms, but earlier in the book he had unprotected oral sex with one of the guys whose name starts with a T, and he also already had unprotected oral sex with Tyler
- When Tyler finally expresses (a lot of) interest in Garrett, all of Garrett's inner monologues repeat again and again what a horrible idea it is. That's really unfair to Tyler
- Garrett outed Tyler to his friends, including their cousin! What the hell? What gives him the right to do that?
- That cousin was annoying, invasive and an overall nuisance. She also meddled in their relationship way too much, while she had no right to

Strictly Curious was such a fun read! It started with two adorable boys meeting for the first time when their parents got married. TBH, reading that was just about my favorite part of the book. I loved their interactions, they felt realistic! Ty is adorable and Garrett is supportive. The story is just sooo darn good from beginning to end. Ty and Garrett have fantastic chemistry and a perfect connection. Overall, a fantastic read! Well written with pacing that flows smoothly.

I didn’t hate this book. I was tempted to give it a 2.5 and round it up to 3 but I just couldn’t. 2.25 stars is all this gets from me. I didn’t feel any attachment at all to any of the secondary characters, and barely felt any attachment to the 2 main characters. Considering that they’ve been living together as stepbrothers for 10 years and sleeping in the same bed most nights, they really didn’t have much of a connection or relationship beyond the sex. The author did a VERY poor job of getting the reader to connect with her characters. I wanted to love this book, I am a fan of the stepbrother trope, but this one fell short.

I love a stepbrothers book! So I couldn’t wait to read this one!!
Tyler and Garrett were shoved together at the age of 10, their parents went away on a trip and come back married, they had no choice if they wanted to be brothers or not this was their new life. They grew up super close and very handsy, they were always together.
Garrett was super protective of his stepbrother but from the first time he saw him he felt something but didn’t realise what that feeling was till he got older. He tried to keep his feelings at bay because his stepbrother only liked girls.
Tyler was oblivious to the way people saw them when they were together, but when he catches his brother in a compromising position things started to shift between them. He can’t seem to get his stepbrother off his mind and he needs to find out what these feelings mean.
Can you really like your stepbrother that way? Garrett and Tyler seem to think you can.
I liked the way these two navigated these new feelings, learning about each other but taking things at their own pace. They were very sweet and I loved the shared moments they had. This is a low angst, swoony, sweet romance that spans from age 10-19.

My review is specific to the audiobook version of this book.
I really enjoyed this stepbrothers to lovers, low angst romance with first times by Joelly Lynne and narrated wonderfully by Oliver Williams. The narrator has a - dare I say - hot voice and also one that sounds age appropriate to NA characters. The characters' voices were distinct (I can easily get lost when voices sound too similar) for each character - I never wondered which MC was speaking. Additionally, the female voices sounded good too. The narration was emotive without being overly dramatic and the spice was sounded hot.
Garrett has attracted to and longing for Tyler ever since he was introduced to Tyler as his new stepbrother. It took Tyler until senior year to realize he reciprocated that attraction, but it hit him when he realized he was jealous that Garrett was getting some action from another guy. These MCs are very sweet together in their exploration of their sexuality (FIRE) and the awakening of Tyler's feelings. There are lots of nerves and some stumbles in their journey to HEA as some people consider love between stepbrothers to be taboo. This is such a good story - there's some angst as the boys figure out who their true friends are and whether their parents will support them or not.

Meh. This probably lands more at 2.5 stars, but ...
I found it pretty boring. I didn't expect anything profound here and went in with managed expectations.
The plot revolved entirely around the trope - as expected - so without delivering on the trope, there IS no story. I just didn't think it was anything special. The writing was pretty lackluster, the fire wasn't there... so yeah. "Meh."
In all fairness nothing in the step-sibling/sibling romance 'verse will probably ever measure up to Two Point Conversion; even without the it was written well enough to carry the story and keep me engaged. Strictly Curious just couldn't hold a candle.

I am a sucker for a good stepbrother romance and boy did Joelle not disappoint! This was my favourite by Joelle Lynne and was simply wonderful! Tyler and Garrett were so sweet and co-dependent together and the story begins when they are 10 years old, continues at 15, and finishes at 19. The author did an amazing job at linking the content to their ages and she doesn't shy away from the steam! This wasn't an angsty book, although there were tons of emotions and confusion between the MCs, and lots of feelings involved. Being stepbrothers, they know what they're doing has to be secret, and I love that they chose to pursue something together, despite the risks. The writing flowed perfectly and there was great character development of not just Garrett and Tyler, but also the side characters, especially Trevor, who is next in line for a book! Overall this was a sweet and emotional read and a must read for fans of all things stepbrothers!

This was softer and sweeter than I expected it to be. The boys did grow up together as stepbrothers but have always been exceptionally close. After seeing something he shouldn’t have, Tyler and Garrett get on the same page quick.
I liked that the family was pretty cool with what happened all things considered. The main/only angst of the story was the trauma of being outed publicly and without their consent. It was done maliciously and felt so gross.
These characters are adults (19) but have just graduated high school and a lot of the drama that surrounded them felt appropriate for that age range. Tyler and Garrett’s relationship was lovely because they’ve been each others person since they were 10 years old so they picked up on cues from the other and we didn’t have tons of miscommunication.

This was my read by Joelle Lynne. Learned about this book on Bookstagram and so glad I decided to read it. There is just something that I love about stepbrothers falling for each other. Really enjoyed Garrett & Tyler’s story. It took use through their forcing coming out story and I really felt for them as it was happening. If you are a fan of stepbrothers and gay for you, you must read this!

When the boys a nineteen Tyler walks in on Garrett with another man and suddenly Tyler questions everything including his sexuality and his feelings for Garrett. The book follows Garrett and Tyler as they explore their newly blossoming relationship and the obstacles that come to light when you fall in love with your stepbrother.
This book was so spicy, i loved that once they decided to pursue something with each other, Garrett and Tyler couldn't keep their hands off each other, which led to some very hot and spicy scenes 🥵. Garrett and Tyler were just so sweet together and are absolute couple goals 🥰.
This book is a must-read for MM romance and Forbidden relationship lovers.

garrett had been “in love” with tyler the whole time but had sex with..what? half the school?
i understand trying to move on or whatever but seriously?
then when tyler and him finally get together. he’s constantly thinking about his past hookups. even thinks about them while having sex with tyler.
and ava? she was supportive but was always saying something to the point where they could’ve gotten caught if someone heard. and they asked numerous times for her to stop and she just kept going.
then garrett outing tyler to those guys? i know he wanted to talk but how many chapters in between where he could’ve let tyler know what he did.

I don't remember reading a book with stepbrother trope before, so I also was curious.
I liked Tyler. Him questioning his own sexuality felt very familiar and real and at some point I was sure there was some ace/demi rep in the making, but sadly, no. That would have made sense, though. But, I really connected with him and felt his pain.
Garret on the other hand was a little weird character fo me. His insta crush in the beginning was sweet, but the older Garret was not as sweet even though he had his moments. He had a very problematic way of thinking and some of his actions was just plain selfish. I mean, outing someone is never ok! Despite of that, they were good together and that was what really mattered the most in the end.
I liked how the book dealt with the stepbrother trope and the stigma of it. I didn't quite get the whole Toby/Maisy plot, but the side character couple (whose names I don't remember as I write this... Tony and..?) was so supportive of the whole situation and Garret's mom was amazing!
Overall the storyline was good and the flashbacks gave the story and both mc's the depth that otherwise would have been missing. I would have loved to read more of those. All in all I can recommend this and any other book by Joelle.

February 5, 2023Dnf 15%. Love the premise but the writing is hella awkward and amateurish. The characters and dialogue feel painfully stilted and after skimming a couple reviews, it sounds like there're a lot of upcoming plot points and silly drama that would frustrate me. Cutting my losses.

I quite enjoyed Garrett and Tyler. There was just something so earnest and endearing about them. I wanted everything to work out for them the whole way through.
Tyler was utterly adorable. Once he sees Garrett in a different light, there’s no turning back for him. Garrett, for his part, tries to make sure Ty isn’t jumping into something he’s not ready for. But there’s only so much a guy can take and he eventually jumps in with both feet. Garrett was super protective of Ty and was always trying to do what he thought was in Ty’s best interest. While there were definitely ups and downs throughout the start of their relationship, the one thing they always had was each other.
I also loved that Ty and Garrett’s parents weren’t painted with the evil step father/step mother brush. Even when ten year old Ty was meeting Garrett’s mom for the first time, she was lovely.
This book was delightful and I will never say no to a good step brother romance. Joelle Lynne has managed to give us one that was delightfully steamy but adorably fuzzy as well.
