New friends. New foes. The re-establishment of the Faction. And the return of Ivan Rush.
When a vampire murders a witch, I'm sure there's a connection to my old friend, turned foe, Ivan Rush. Fighting vampires isn't necessarily my forte. I'm going to need help. Help from my fellow witches. Help from the shifter community. I even ask for help from the Vampiric Embassy.
That's not all happening in Creel Creek. The After Dark podcast is floundering. Dave and I are planning a wedding. And something strange is going on with Summer.
This Paranormal Women's Fiction Mystery has it all. For fans of urban fantasy, cozy mysteries, and hilarious witchy magic.

Annoyed, frustrated and disappointed are the first words that come to mind, after reading this book. Repeatedly throughout the book, sentences feel like they are clipped off before they say what they intend to say. Basically, there was so much left unsaid and unexplained that I couldn’t relate with the characters any longer, like I had in previous books. So many times the main character would seem to just gloss over things in her life that no normal person would ever do (both in actions and in thoughts.) And the constant short sentences one right after another made the overall writing style feel very clipped and choppy. Just imagine an entire book reading like the overview, which is one of the reasons why this book was annoying and frustrating. 5-10 word sentences one after another after another? Really? If the last book in this series doesn’t wrap up every single loose end, then I will be at the end of the line with any book from these authors.
This one ends on a cliffhanger, so be prepared! Constance is battling Ivan the terrible vampire in this one. Dave has a falling out with Mac, his shifter deputy, and most of the shifter community turn on the two engages paranormals until Connie does the unthinkable...summons another demon. But this one has an ax to grind and Ivan is the target. Parts of the story were a bit slow and a slog to read through, but I appreciated the fast-paced ending. Connie really struggles with her power in this installment, not rising to the challenge until pushed by dire circumstances, and that part was a bit irritating, but her character does grow from it, so silver lining.
Favorite Line ~ "Want versus need isn't the same as good versus evil."
Favorite Random Thing ~ Connie's blaze attitude about summoning so many demons throughout her time in Creel Creek...hilarious
I can't believe we're nearing the end of this series. Things are coming to a head in this penultimate book and it's all hands on deck in the effort to thwart Ivan Rush and his cronies. As always this was a fun read for the most part with a few drops of sadness thrown in.
As the penultimate book in the series, it starts to wrap up some of the threads. The book has a lot going on and definitely needs to be read after the other books. While the story is complex and interesting, I couldn’t really get into caring about any of the characters.
Magic floats just about everywhere in Creel Creek including the fog. But when one of their timeless villains comes back and pushes that fog and magic aside, Constance and gang set off to find a way to put everything back as it was! This answers a multitude of questions, with one minor wrap up waiting in the wings of the next book apparently.
I've read all 8 books so far and can't wait for book 9. My 11 and 14 year olds often asked me what was funny if I laughed so I had to explain to them, both are eager to read the series too. February 2025 can't come soon enough
I love the cozy paranormal mystery vibes. I like that they are all spirited and adventurous people in their forties since it is not often you get this type of cross genre for a mature audience.
