Uncimo Volume 1: Surviving The Vietnam War

Rate this book
Before Terry Brown created several viral hit songs and became known as the 60-year-old rapper, he overcame the unthinkable in the Vietnam War. Over 300,000 US soldiers were wounded in Vietnam, but even more soldiers experienced wounds that cut deeper than the skin. For 50+ years, Terry Brown, also known as Unc Imo, has been on a mission to find four of his friends that were shipped off into the night in four different directions after a life-changing incident in Asia. To take another step toward finding the four soldiers and healing from the longest war in US history, Unc Imo has written a cinematic, comedic, and heartfelt book that vividly details his experiences of growing up in New Orleans, living in California, surviving the war, and overcoming obstacles post-war.

🍷What a purposeful and heart touching book it is. I absolutely love reading stories that talk about war and are based in the era when the war happens.

This is one such book where the author talks about his own journey of joining the military and facing the severe situations and difficulties of the war. The story starts from his own early life when he joined military as a teen and then went for its training, it’s a very short yet an impactful read that showcases the the lives of people who face the war and their relatives who are indirectly a part of the entire situation.

It’s a very short book that can be completed within an hour, author also talks about his mental health and how it was affected due to the situation of the war, I absolutely loved his bond with his step father and his mother who was always by his side.

The author face ruthless situations in his life but never gave up and now he is a rapper who writes wonderful songs. The author also suffered from PTSD and I’m so proud of him for coming out stronger, it’s a short but an intense read that will keep you gripped throughout.

The writing is easy and really meant for anyone who wants to see closely the lives of people in the military, I heard it as an audiobook and I will highly recommend it, go for it.
