I fell for the enemy.
He broke me, and then put me together again.
Our future? It’s worth fighting for.
Or it was before the accident.

The accident stole Phoenix from me. Now, he’s nice… kind even. But the memory of me—of our baby—is gone. Despite everything, I’m left fighting for our child and the man I’ve come to love.

How much will I have to sacrifice to bring him back? What happens when secrets buried deep in the past burst into the present? Do we have a chance? Or is it inevitable that history repeats itself and we’re forced to go our separate ways?

Cruel Love is an enemies-to-lovers, fake relationship, new adult, bully romance with pregnancy, plenty of angst, heat, and a HEA. This is the conclusion of Cruel Hate, and Aspen and Phoenix’s duet. This book contains mature content that some readers may find disturbing.

I was waiting in sheer anticipation for this continuation of Aspen and Phoenix's story as this book picks up where Cruel Hate ends....and my gosh. Starting right from the first page 1 my heart was beating so fast, not knowing where the story will take me and I could not put it down. I love Aspen and Phoenix so much...giving me all the feels that I love about this series....passion, secrets, drama, lies, angst and sizzle.

The odds are totally against Phoenix and Aspen, from an unplanned pregnancy, juggling college work, family drama and Phoenix being determined to make his shot at the NFL. When an unfortunate event leads down a path of struggle and determination and opening up family wounds and secrets, will Aspen and Phoenix make their own choices in life and in process of becoming parents and not be influenced by money and greed.........

I do not want to give any spoilers away as I could talk about this book forever...but I highly recommend reading this series right from the beginning to get to know all the characters and the progression of the story-line right from the start. I cannot wait until the next installment to know what happens to Shane and his story...

Cruel Love is the seventh book in this dark and gripping Hidden Valley Elite series. It is an enemies-to-lovers tale that starts straight after Cruel Hate which finished on a cliffie. Aspen and Phoenix’s duet is Cruel Hate and finishing with this book Cruel Love. Make sure to read them all in order so you don’t miss out on any of this devilishly dark goodness.
This NA sports story is about Aspen and Phoenix where being a resident bully is the norm. This romance tale is another tangled web for one of the Hidden Valley Elite. There is scorching hot heat, a plethora of passion, plenty of angst, tons of drama, lots of thrills, palpable fear, hidden secrets, a heap of lies and deceit, harassment and jealousy.
Oh, my things are upside down and twisted end on end. Did not see that coming.
Isla definitely put these complex characters through their paces in this book.
Aspen thought she had it all, well sort of but now her world has completely turned upside down. He no longer remembers her and definitely not the big question mark of the elephant between us.
Phoenix is not the same man and memories of what once has gone. His identity as one of the Elite bullies and one of the alpha young men who rule the Academy has changed.
Isla writes the characters so well. There are some you will like; some you will hate and some you will love.
I’ve said it before, but I am saying it again this series just keeps on getting better and better.
I can’t wait to see what comes next.

ARC Review of Cruel Love by Isla Vaugh
* * * * *
An epic twist has this couple facing a new challenge on top of all their current troubles and struggles! Can they make it together?

Aspen and Pheonix were left wrapped in each other's arms when an unexpected accident left them reeling. They may have not lost their lives or their baby...but they did lose something else.
Their time together, and a lot more time they didn't realise would be so precious to everyone else.
However, the bond still shows and grows...for some that is an oppurtunity and a problem when it comes to using Pheonix at their own gain. This also puts Aspen in her own scary situation as she is left with a choice on the table that has her afraid for her life and the life of her baby.
What will she do? Will Pheonix remember anything or stand by her anyway?

Wow. Did not expect that twist int he beginning. Most would have lost time just before their lover is discovered, or even their entire lives. Isla Vaugh has made it to a specific point which can alter a character's behaviour to a different extent, which is interesting and a first.
People's true colours are starting to show, and certain clingy cows are still hanging around. Shane and Pheonix are working on their relationship, as well as the Aspen and her baby daddy.
Then we are left with a taste of what is to come in the next book and next romance...and I cannot wait!

My goodness! The emotions I’m feeling is out of this world. I think Cruel Love is the one book out of the entire series that has had me the most stressed since page 1! The angst, the NEEDING to know what happens is such torture. I think I’ll be sending the author my therapy bill! All the characters are great but Jillian…the girl needs to GO. She makes me want to pull my hair out and scream! Same with the grandad!!! There’s so much drama and back in forth in this book but I couldn’t get enough. Also, I LOVE Max. He’s such a great friend to Aspen and he’s always there for her. I love when they’re together! As all the other books in this series, I loved this one too! And I always expect a cliffhanger but THIS ONE? I can’t deal lmao. So onto the next book because I have to know what happens. If you haven’t read this series, you’re truly missing out.

What a fantastic conclusion to Phoenix and Aspen’s Duet! This book is my favorite so far in the series!

The book picked up right where the previous one left me hanging, and what a cliffhanger that was!!!! Oh my gosh…talk about a nailbiter! Phoenix is in the hospital and his memories of the last few years are gone which include his memory of who Aspen is and all of the struggles they have had to endure. However, he knows she has played an important part in his life, and he feels the same pull towards her as he did before the accident. There was a lot going on in this book, and I loved every minute of it!

Cruel Love was such an appropriate title for this particular book as Cruel Hate was a perfect title for the previous one. In that one, despite the chemistry and pull of Aspen and Phoenix, a lot of their emotions for one another could be construed as hate. There was so much back and forth and push and pull between them. If I didn’t know how they truly felt about each other, I would have thought they had no promise of a future together. However, Vaughn turned all of that negativity and anger on its head in this book. The accident has made Phoenix kinder, more patient, and less self-centered. Those protective walls he has erected aren’t there which in turn causes Aspen to be more vulnerable and trusting with him. This was a much sweeter read, and I enjoyed watching the two of them get to know one another and really fall for each other.

As they discover their love for each other, several background stories develop and connect as well. The mystery of Phoenix’s grandfather’s actions which involve Shane, Phoenix’s twin, is coming to light and more about their mother and father’s pasts is being discovered as well. It’s the perfect combination of romance and mystery.

Isla Vaughn is an expert in taking her readers on a rollercoaster of emotions. My heart has been broken and put back together, and she has made me so angry that I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room and throttle some of the characters. Yet, that is what a great writer does, she or he tugs at your emotions, and Vaughn is incredibly talented at doing that. It is what keeps me coming back for more. She has really set us up for what promises to be a great set of books next. It’s finally Shane’s turn to tell us his story, and if the cliffhanger we are left with at the end of this book is any indication, it’s going to be one heck of a ride!!

Cruel Love is Book Six in the Hidden Valley Elite series. This book continues with Aspen and Phoenix’s story, so I highly recommend reading the books Cruel Start and Cruel Hate prior to reading this one. Without reading those books prior to this one you will not understand the characters or their backstory. The story starts with a bang that will immediately draw you into the story and hook you until the end. After a horrific car accident Phoenix was hospitalized and is suffering from memory loss. He wakes up to discover a beautiful blonde girl by his bedside but has no recollection of who she is. Phoenix not only does not know who Aspen is but has no memory that he is the father to her unborn baby. In his mind Phoenix is only fourteen years old and has suffered a head injury incurred during a football game. Aspen is devastated that Phoenix does not remember her or that she is pregnant with his child. She fears that she will be left to raise their baby on her own. Everyone is walking on eggshells around Phoenix for fear that they will set his recovery back, but Aspen does not want to hide the pregnancy from him. The car accident has changed the entire dynamic of their relationship and complicates matters even farther. Will Phoenix remember who Aspen is? Will Aspen be left to raise their baby on her own?

This story immediately drew me in from the first few pages and kept me riveted until the end. Phoenix risked his life to save the lives of Aspen and their unborn child. In doing so, the accident has left him suffering from amnesia and he no longer knows who Aspen is or that she is pregnant with his child. It was an interesting dynamic as both Phoenix and Aspen’s lives were changed by that fateful accident. Phoenix wakes up a different person than the bully he was before. Aspen fears setting back his recovery but eventually her pregnancy will be noticeable and will be impossible to hide. Both characters are forced to make some difficult choices and navigate through numerous challenges as they fight for themselves and their unborn child. It was an intense rollercoaster ride of love, loss, tragedy, unplanned pregnancy, drama, lust, passion, secrets, lies, betrayal, angst, and drama galore. I highly recommend this book!

The accident took every moment they had but gave them everything they needed and more. What an incredible finale to Phoenix and Aspen’s duet. As always, the talented Isla Vaughn takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions, happy, sad, angry, devastated and keeps going without warning. This book picks up one month after the events of the first half of the duet, Cruel Hate.
Phoenix has been in a medically induced coma to help his mind and body heal as much as possible before he woke up. Aspen other than minor bumps and bruises is okay and so is the baby, much to her father’s dismay. Just when things seem to be the darkest Phoenix wakes up, and for a moment everyone is happy until reality sets in. Phoenix thinks he is fourteen years old and a freshman in high school, but still every fiber of his being is drawn to Aspen. With his defenses out of the way the door is opened wide for them to get to know each other without attitudes or fears getting in the way. Information starts to seep through when Jillian, yes, the punt bunny returns, with some vengeance and spills the beans about Aspen being pregnant. Shane’s mysteries in the first book get some insight when he lets out that Grandad has been running him to death with errands for the family business. Reckless ideas of reconciliation with their father come to light and so much more.
How will Phoenix get his memories back? Without their defenses can Aspen and Phoenix finally find the balance they need? While the world of the Hidden Valley Elite is the same, essentially, the characters go on so many journeys throughout this book. Phoenix loses his defenses and Aspen drops hers to let him in. Knowing that we are always promised a happy ending at the end of each duet keeps me counting down the days to each new entry to find out what will happen next and how it will all end. There are no perfectly wrapped little packages here, the author makes sure the characters fight for what they want, nothing is handed over easily. More so, the mystery, suspense, and growth never end. My lord the way she set up the final duet, Shane’s story will finally be revealed part one, Wicked Games, October 26th, 2023.

In "Cruel Love" by Isla Vaughn, readers are taken on an exhilarating emotional ride from start to finish. This enemies-to-lovers, fake relationship, new adult, sports romance doesn't hold back on the drama, passion, or heartache.

The story revolves around Aspen and Phoenix, two characters who initially couldn't stand each other. However, fate has a way of twisting things, and their tumultuous journey takes unexpected turns. The blurb hints at the gripping premise: a devastating accident that erases Phoenix's memory of Aspen and their child. The transformation of Phoenix from a "cruel" enemy to a kinder soul adds layers of complexity to their relationship.

Isla Vaughn expertly weaves together elements of love, loss, redemption, and sacrifice. The characters' chemistry is palpable, and readers will find themselves rooting for their happiness, even when the odds seem insurmountable.

The novel delves into the past, unearthing buried secrets that resurface in the present, threatening to tear Aspen and Phoenix apart once again. Vaughn skillfully keeps the suspense and tension building, making it nearly impossible to put the book down.

"Cruel Love" delivers on its promises of angst and heat. The passion between Aspen and Phoenix sizzles on the pages, but it's the emotional depth of their journey that truly captivates. The story explores the lengths one will go to for love, family, and a chance at a better future.

As the conclusion to the duet that began with "Cruel Hate," this book ties up loose ends and provides a satisfying resolution for the characters readers have grown to care about.

In the end, "Cruel Love" by Isla Vaughn is a gripping and passionate read that will leave you breathless. If you enjoy complex characters, intense romance, and a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, this book is well worth your time. It's a testament to the power of love and the resilience of the human spirit, reminding us that even in the face of adversity, a happy ending is possible.

Cruel Love (Hidden Valley Elite Book 6) by Isla Vaughn - Review by Jessica Stone

Starting this review for anyone who doesn't already know this is book 6 in this series and if you haven't read the previous books you will have zero idea what's going on, so go read them! They are super good, fun, fast, steamy reads.

This is the second part to Phoniex and aspens story and oh goshhhh it was so good. I love how much character development and relationships development takes place in this book, I always get so invested into the characters and I was genuinely worried for a bit that they weren't going to get their HEA.

With every couples story's coming to a head, more and more secrets and lies and manipulation within the family comes out and ties all the loose ends together and it has me feral the finish this series.

I think aspen faced some hard choices in this book and was put in some situations that she could have chosen to react to poorly with intention to hurt people like how she was feeling and she didn't, and that speaks volumes for her character and character development in this story. Phoniex's accident is heartbreaking, but honestly the best thing that could have happened to his character because it offer a sort of reset and ability for this book to head in a direction that you didn't think it would reach in the first half of aspen and Phoniex's duet.

All and all I'm thoroughly impressed with this series, the author has done a wonderful job of bringing everything together and leaving nothing behind to be forgotten in previous books. The characters are all real relatable people going through everyday challenges and situations facing their futures just we all have. I'm beyond excited for Shane's Duet, this author loves her cliffhangers and I'm all aboard the Shane train to find out who/what his duet has in store for us readers.

First let me start by saying that this is NOT a stand alone book. You have to read Cruel Hate and I also suggest that you read the prequel Cruel Start as well. Although Cruel Start isn't NEEDED, it gives you some back story that just makes the overall story that much better! Cruel Love is the continued story of Aspen and Phoenix. In book one (which is left on a huge cliffhanger!) Aspen is pregnant and Phoenix is the father. Phoenix unfortunately loses his memory in an accident. YEARS of memories just wiped out clean. Everyone walks around him on eggshells hiding things "for his own good". To him everyone is just lying and keeping secrets. Pushing his brain to remember causes headaches and blackouts, so keeping certain things from him for the time being is a must. So what do you do when the father of your child doesn't even remember you or that you're pregnant? Eventually Aspen will start to show and there will be no more hiding. Secrets are piling up and the past is also knocking around to come to the surface. Can Aspen deal with the pregnancy alone? Phoenix isn't any help in his current state. He has to put school and football on hold as is. So how much will they both have to give up? Will she be alone caring for a baby they both wanted to keep before the accident? Things have changed between them and she's worried about when he finally does get his memory back! Things will heat up and break down on so many levels. This book is so good! I have loved this WHOLE series (Hidden Valley Elite) so far and I can't wait to read the rest of it!! If you love enemies to lovers with plenty of back and forth heat and banter this one is for you! I suggest reading them ALL and in order because you get to learn about the other characters in the book and how they all line up with each other. The prequels are wonderful small starts too, so read those as well!!! But again in order!! You will not regret it! I know I sure didn't. :)

Phoenix is not the same man she knew a few months ago, he's lost in his memories struggling to find his way, a way that she is hoping includes her. She doesn't how to handle this man before her, he's different, nicer, sweeter and compassionate, but what happens when he remembers?

The pages of Cruel Love will take you through the lives of two people who thought they'd only know one another for one night, but two pink lines a few weeks later changed that one night into forever. Phoenix struggles to except all these new changes to his life and isn't always a guy that Aspen can depend on. She often wonders if she'll wind up caring for their baby alone, and if Phoenix will ever come around.

Then a tragedy changes the whole dynamic between them, and also changes Phoenix in ways they never expected. It's a beautifully penned love story with many ups and downs, often leaving you to wonder if they will ever find their way. But one thing you will quickly learn is that these two are strong and stubborn and won't give up without a fight. I loved everything single second I spent reading this duet, it took one heck of a toll on my heart, and as that last page came I decided it was all worth it. It was a great reminder that love can sometimes be messy and it's a lot of work. You have to fight for it if you really want it. I highly recommend you take a chance on these two, the story they have to tell will wreck you in all the best of ways!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

This series is such an awesome read about the four elite guys at Hidden Valley School and the girls they care for. I would suggest reading this series in order, not because you have to, but because it's a great series and you get to see a lot about each of the main male characters as they are present in each other's stories and lives, being as they are all four related and best friends as well. Also note, this series has two books, a continuation duo for each of the four heroes, making it an eight-book series with a novella that comes before the first book in the series.

I don't know how Isla Vaughn keeps making the books in this series better and better, but she does. This book is the conclusion of Phoenix and Amber's story. We pick up here after the cliffhanger in book five to find out how Phoenix and Aspen are going to cope with a plethora of problems, passion, drama, and oh so much more. Will Phoenix ever remember his time with Amber? Should Amber keep fighting or just take care of herself and her child? Wow, Isla Vaughn has written some complex characters who face a lot, but Phoenix and Amber's story and all they face has really blown me away.. in a good way, that is.. I'm so impressed with the writing and plotting of this series, this duo especially! I truly can't wait for the next duo of books, because if these are any indications, then the next will be even more mind-blowing. You get so invested in these characters' lives that you just want to read more. You should definitely check out this series as I'm positive you won't be disappointed!

This is the last book in the duet story about Phoenix and Aspen (+ prequel). I highly recommend reading Books 1-4 in the series beforehand as well, but it is not required.

I absolutely love this story. At first, I didn't think anyone could surpass Riley & Cole (Book 1 & 2), but this couple blew them out of the park.

Neither of their pasts let them have the desire to fall in love. They don't have great relationship models in their life. Onto of that, they both have very high career goals, and nothing will get in their way. That is until they meet eachothers match. Both Aspen and Phoenix are headstrong and take no crap.

After a one night stand, Aspen ends up pregnant. Both are very hard-headed, and while they both want this child, there is something deeper in their relationship, something neither of them are willing to admit.

There is a lot of back and forth in this book. Do not expect a happy relationship from the beginning. Expect to cry and scream at the characters to get their shit together.

It takes a life changing event to get them both to accept the fact they love each other. It takes Phoenix losing his memory of Aspen. It is soooo cute to see Phoenix and what he thinks of Aspen without his macho-man personality he has grown into.

The ending is A+++ they are the cutest! I can't wait to read the next duet and conclude the series! I love seeing the tid bits of information about the previous couples throughout the next books as well - I get to hang on to them just a little longer!

Ok where to start with this review. This author has blown my mind time and time again. This is book 6 in the Hidden Valley Elite and yes you most definately have to read them in order. This series is amazing as we follow 4 guys, Cole, Damon, Phoenix and Shane as they fight to fulfill their dreams of joining the NFL why tackling problems and issues in their personal lifes. Every one of them is flawed and damaged in some way but the love of a good woman changes things.

This is part 2 of Phoenix and Aspens story. The first part was Cruel Hate which left us on a cliff hanger as they were involved in a car accident. Now I don't want to give anything away so you need to read it to find out if they were OK or what lasting effects accorded because of it.
The character growth in this book is amazing and so beautiful to see as Aspen and Phoenix finally drop their guards and start to let each other in. However
there are so many secrets and lies to uncover and unravel in this story. The road to Phoenix and Aspen's HEA isn't going to be easy especially when there is a force against them plotting to destroy them.
Honestly this series is just captivating. I was holding my breath for this book and I wasn't let down. And yet again we are left with a cliff hanger of an ending.
Now I want to know what is happening with the final guy Shane. I can't wait to carry on with this series.

Dearest Author, Why do you hate me? You know the next book doesn’t come out for months and months, and (even if it is only next week, it will seem like) months? That ending truly was cruel love.

We pick up where Cruel Hate ended. Phoenix, Shane and Aspen are dealing with the aftermath of the car accident. Their world has been turned upside down in more ways than one. People Phoenix and Shane have known all their life are not who they seem to be. Phoenix struggles to find himself.

While Phoenix is on the mend, Aspen finds her community. The family that includes Cole, Damon, Riley and Skylar rallies around Aspen to support her and assist with her dream of her own business. No matter what happens with Phoenix, Aspen knows that she will always have family for her little one.

Ugh! This is so hard. There is soooo much to love about this book but I don’t want to give away its secrets. I don’t want to be that reviewer that tells way too much. Not to mention the way this one ends. This is one of my favorite series of all time. The found family bond and strong female characters rival the Elite Mafia series by another author who is constantly on my TBR List. Super! Wonderful! Fantastic! I could throw in a few more but I will wait for the next one to add to that list.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the second book in a duet. You have to make sure that you read Cruel Hate first or you will be lost in this book.
Cruel Love picks up right where Cruel Hate left off and we find that Pheonix is in a hospital struggle to remember. He thinks that he is fourteen and Aspen is left reeling. He of course does not remember her or the baby and she doesn't want to keep it from him but she also doesn't want to set back his recovery. However when the accident happened it brought out a different side of Pheonix. A side that I absolutely adore and it really opened Aspen up to him where she had been closed off since they were fake dating. Now things are very real and there is a lot on the line. There are also some evil forces working against them. So there are twists and turns and things you won't see coming in this book. This is the conclusion to his and Aspen's story and I loved every single second of it. I was so emotionally invested in this story that I lived these moments with these characters. You do not want to miss this book. I have loved this entire series actually and can not wait to see whose story we get next.

Isla Vaughn’s Cruel Love continues Aspen and Phoenix’s story. Phoenix saved Aspen by shielding her when his father’s car was in an accident. However, Phoenix was in a coma for a month. When he woke, he thought he was only fourteen years old. He recognized his mother and was stunned by how big his twin was. Aspen found out she was having a baby girl. It conflicted Aspen about telling Phoenix that the baby was his. Thankfully, Phoenix’s cousins and their girlfriends were supportive. Despite their support, it appears as though two members of his family are not on board with Aspen’s plan to keep her baby.
Phoenix’s struggle to recover changed his behavior, and Aspen began to stop being as stubborn about a relationship. His grandfather used manipulation to get rid of Aspen by lying that Phoenix didn't want the baby and wanted her out of his life. On the edge of the story is the strange behavior of Shane. A shocking ending made me want to continue reading. The Hidden Valley Elite Series has been amazing and easy to read. The alternating perspectives give a full picture of what each person is thinking. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes relatable characters and romance that is realistically depicted.

Cruel Love is Book #6 in the Hidden Valley Elite series by Isla Vaughn. OMG- I can’t get enough of this series!! This is the continuation of Aspen and Phoenix’s story which started in Cruel Start, continued in Cruel Hate, and concludes here in Cruel Love. So if you haven’t read those previous books, I highly recommend you do so you have all the important details on board before diving into this book…
After the cliffhanger ending in the previous book, I really couldn’t wait for this instalment to release. And boy, Ms. Vaughn didn’t disappoint!! This picks up right where we left off in the previous book and all the dramatic developments that entailed. Phoenix’s memory has been impacted by the accident and with things the way they are, poor Aspen is beginning to wonder what the future holds for her and their unborn baby. Gah- Ms. Vaughn loves toying with my emotions!
I know I keep saying it, but this series really does keep getting better as we go- getting more intriguing and angstier with each new addition. Ms. Vaughn outdoes herself every time.
Wicked Games is next- and I am already anticipating what Ms. Vaughn has in store for us there!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Isla Vaughn!

Cruel Love (Hidden Valley Elite Book 6) by Isla Vaughn

Cruel Love is the sixth book in the Hidden Valley Elite Series and is a wonderfully written Contemporary Romance that I couldn’t put down until I finished. This is a Enemies to Lover’s Romance that is loaded with, drama, jealousy, secrets and so much more. Cruel Love picks up right where Cruel Hate left us and holy cow what a ride these two have taken us on. I highly recommend reading this series in order as the characters overlap and you get to know what had been going on . The characters are spot on and developed, relatable and real. They bring the story to life and you feel like you are right there with them. This is the conclusion of Aspen and Phoenix story. She thought she had it all but know he doesn’t have any memory of her or them being together. She will fight till the end fir the man she loves. Phoenix has no memory of who he one was and everything has changed. I don’t want to give to much away. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. This is my favorite yet but man this series just keeps getting better and better. I’m looking forward to what this author brings us next.

This book was just amazing! It gave everything that was promised, passion, fear, tears, laughter, and a happily ever after at the end with a twist that is true to Isla Vaughn's style! I absolutely love that each book in the series builds upon the books that came before them. There is no doubt where the past main characters are in their lives because they continue to be side characters among the newest mains. This book was one of my favorites so far in this series, why you may ask, because it gives us so much more of a view into the past and ties together mysteries that we have been wondering about for this entire series. There are so many unexpected scenes that entice the reader to continue reading in anxiousness, not knowing what may happen next to the characters. I loved and hated the cliffhanger this book ended with, I am so excited to get the next books in this series and see what the outcome will be! If you have not read any of the other books in this series, stop, go back to the beginning, and start with the prequels, you will be happy that you did! I highly recommend this series to young adults and up, there is mature content in the books, but it's very toned down compared to a lot of romance books I have read.

Cruel Love by Isla Vaughn is available now in eBook and Physical Book
⭐️⭐️⭐⭐⭐ Book Review

I have yet to read a book by Isla Vaughn that I have not liked. To this point I have read every novel in the Hidden Valley Elite Series and I am absolutely in love. Cruel Love picked up after being left on a cliffhanger in Cruel Hate which wraps up the story of Phoenix and Aspen. There has been an accident that takes Phoenix’s memories. When he wakes up he thinks he is 14 again. Aspen so desperately wants to tell him she is pregnant with their baby and that he is in college but she doesn't want to distract Phoenix from his progress of getting better. When things go south she has to tell him everything.

I admire Phoenix’s determination to become strong and to never give up his dreams despite his accident. I admire his determination to be a better dad than he ever had in his life no matter the situation that got him there. After reading Cruel Hate I was worried that Phoenix and Aspen would not have a chance at love, that this would turn into a single parent situation. Cruel Love absolutely proved me wrong. I highly suggest not only this novel, Cruel Love, but this entire series to anyone who enjoys reading romance novels full of love, determination, and devotion.

I recommend reading Cruel Hate before jumping into this book, as Cruel Love picks up right after that big cliffhanger from book one.

This book gives a total different vibe and feel for Aspen and Phoenix as these two get closer and I loved their emotional intimacy in this half of the duet.

There are new trials and tribulations within this part of their story, but instead of constantly battling each other, the two of them just grow stronger together. I don't always agree with the amnesia formula, but for these two it was the shake up they needed in their relationship.

As for the rest of the story, there were still very intense moments, and once again the pages flew by, but unlike the first part it was for very different reasons this time and overall I ended up loving how their love story turned out and was really happy I stuck with them and didn't walk away from the toxicity they were circling.

Now let's talk about this cliffhanger that we are left with at the end of this book. OMG!! These Bennett boys never give us a break! I know I'm looking forward to the last man standing and the mess he's now standing in when we return with Shane's story.

Ohh after that cliffhanger, I was left wondering how Aspen and Phoenix's story would continue.

Phoenix protected Aspen with his life and he saved Aspen & their unborn baby, but it did come at a cost.

Aspen is faced with a new challenge and has to navigate how to go forward. I loved that she did not let others deter her from what she felt was needed. Phoenix had really won me over in this book. And I am happy to see how his character grew.

𝒀𝒐𝒖'𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝑰 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝑰 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒌𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔.

It is a fast-paced, angsty and good read. Aspen and Phoenix's story had some unexpected twists and I could not but either book down until I finished it.

I am very curious into seeing where this series goes next!

This book is amazing and will have you hooked from the jump. There is the mystery, the intrigue, the spice, the love, and the character growth. It picks up right where it needs to. If you haven't read Cruel Hate, you will want to do so before reading this book or you will not know what is going on. I wasn't sure what to think going into this book based on how the other one left off. I was not disappointed. It was so worth the wait on every sense of the level. The characters are relatable. You are ale to find traits with all of the that resonate with you. These books keep getting better and better with every single one of them. It is a fast paced read because you are sucked into their world and can't wait to see what is going to happen and who is going to do what. You are going to find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat in anticipation. You just want to be able to scream at the characters sometimes because you are so caught up in the moment. If you haven't read any of this series, I highly recommend that you do. You won't be disappointed and it will go on your reread pile. I know that every book is on mine. They are just that good.

I enjoyed Cruel Love more than Cruel Hate. The duet in the series is mind boggling. There’s so much going on, however it all works. This author beautifully ties everything together/up with a little bow. Book 6 in this series did not disappoint.
What would you do if you had a chance to start over? Meaning when getting to know someone?
Well that’s exactly what Aspen gets. After the car accident Phoenix doesn’t remember the last 5 years. He’s changed, he's kinder and more open with her, should she take advantage? A chance to get to know her baby’s father, without all the walls that held both of them back.
Unfortunately Phoenix’s grandad plans to put a stop and end things between them. Aspen isn’t worthy and his threats and promises, bring some thoughts and decisions to make.
The drama of it all keeps you turning the page. Keeps the reader wanting more. I can’t wait for the final duet, books 7-8 on how the author ends this series.
All I can say is start from the beginning and don’t look back. It may be broken down into duets, but they are all connected. So I leave you with this, Happy Reading!!

For the finish of the duet, this felt very unfinished. The grandfather makes all these threats and then gets a tongue lashing from Phoenix and just disappears from their life.

The Phoenix amnesia thing was very disconcerting how Shay could still find him attractive even in his diminished mental capacity. That part of the plot was gross and seemed like a really lazy way to make Phoenix less of an asshole without making him do the work to actually be less of an asshole.

I still don't know why Shay is in college. Put all of your effort into your business.

That Phoenix and Shane STILL don't connect and discuss what is going on defies belief. As well as getting no insight into the relationship with the Dad and the mom and all the dynamics that would be in place.

This book is barely a happy for now and leaves so many unanswered questions with the interpersonal relationships besides just Phoenix and Shay that I felt very disappointed in this book.

I marked it up a star because the author didn't pad the whole book with sex scenes. I'm not even sure if there were any which was okay with me.

This was an amazing book and it was hard to put down. I finished the entire book in a day.

This book is a continuation of Phoenix's story. There was a major accident that left him without a lot of his memories. Most importantly he forgot about his baby and the woman he knocked up. While he might not remember everyone around him does.

To make matters worse nothing is harder than waking up and not recognizing your own body and who you are now. Phoenix is not used to being calm and not going all out and giving everything his all. Doctors say one thing but sometimes it's not what you might want to hear.

What happens when you fall for the man with whom you have a love-hate relationship? Will he ever remember that he has a child that is due to entire the world in a few short months? What happens when old family secrets and lies come out at once? Will he push his recovery too hard and lose everything?

Read this book to find out what happens with Phoenix. Will he forever be missing years of his life or will he recover?

There is a slight recap on the last chapter in book 5 of the series.
The Hidden Valley Elite have come a long way, especially Phoenix. Not only is he struggling with the outcome of the car crash, but there is so much more.
Strictly no spoiling, but the H.V.E. is a series that definitely needs to be read in order. There are more questions answered here that have been presented throughout the series.
Phoenix and Aspen have been struggling internally with their emotions. Not only theirs but those around them. His twin Shane is almost defeated with so much going on around him.
Trauma, pregnancy, Domination/Hatred, NFL, I can go on but seriously, this is a must series to be read.

What I will say, it isn’t over yet. We were left on a cliffhanger and I question on the situation of Shane. Was he set up and if so, by whom? I have my suspicions but won’t know until next release.

If you are planning to read the H.V.E series, do read in order as all the characters do continue book to book. Also, the advantage of reading consecutively without waiting next release is a bonus.
