My husband gifted me this book and while I thanked him for being so thoughtful to give me a "cookbook" from one of my favorite chefs, I put the book up with my other cookbooks and forgot about it. I didn't think I would love this book as much as I do! I really love how Aarti relates Bible passages with recipes and prayers. I kept finding myself relating certain things in my life as Aarti shares with the readers. The recipes aren't very difficult either. As someone who loves to cook and cooks regularly, there's little I didn't have in my pantry when using her recipes. I have since bought this book for other family members. :)
I love Aarti but this book did nothing for me. It had a bunch of recipes for things that didn't call to me or had ingredients I couldn't get ahold of. I have not made a single recipe out of it and it's going to the donate pile.
A book that I definitely need to own. I always love Aarti's recipes, but I also really enjoyed the devotionals paired with each one. Definitely would love to spend more time digging into those when I get my own copy.
Title: Unwind: a devotional cookbook for the harried and hungry Author: Aarti Sequeira Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ GENRE: non-fiction, christian, cookbook
📚SUMMARY & THOUGHTS📚 My parents gave this book to me for my birthday last year. I was very excited to dive into the recipes and devotions as I improve my Indian cooking skills. I deeply loved the devotions. More than I few times I was in tears, setting it down needing to work through some things and pray about the words of spiritual encouragement on the page. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves Jesus and eating Indian and Indian fusion!
📚JOYS📚 This book combines some of my favorite things but I won’t write about all the joys in reading and cooking, Jesus, food, culture, learning, cooking… I will be rereading and cooking these for many years to come.
📚CHALLENGES📚 Since marrying an Indian, I have been expanding my kitchen staples. I thought I had most of what I would need for these recipes. However, I often found at least one ingredient in each one that I did not have on hand. I am looking forward to making them but it will take me a bit longer than I wanted.
