Holidays are a time to eat, drink and get married!
Or at least that is what my best friend, Nick, and I joked about but neither one of us thought would happen! It all started with a marriage pact—if neither of us were married by the time we were thirty, we would meet on Christmas and get hitched. We even booked the honeymoon suite to seal the pact! Then we went on with our separate lives, sure we would never need a backup mate.
Then it happened. The holiday turned into a Holidaze and I woke up in a honeymoon suite with a wedding gown on and rice in my hair.
Clearly, it was a misunderstanding—we didn’t actually get married.
We did the most obvious thing and retraced our steps. However, while waiting to find out my true marital status, my heart started to go thumpity-thump, making me ponder if maybe I did have feelings for Nick.
Now I must decide if I should confess my feelings, and risk ruining our friendship, or forever wonder if we could be happy together. 'Tis the Season to Get Married is a clean and wholesome, friends-to-lovers, romantic comedy.
Squeaky clean, hilarious romp as best friends wake up in the honeymoon suite (not in bed) and trace their steps to find out if their joking pact to get married really happened.
Unrequited love, funny banter, a slobbering dog, a rudolph cut out, and you have a Christmas romcom.
Okay...I'm still not exactly sure what just happened there... :P
Nick and Charlotte were a very cute couple, and I loved the aspect of him being in love but hiding it because she only thought of him as a friend. (Also, what is it with these girls and their perfect-but-obviously-just-a-friend guys? If I had a guy friend like that, I would snatch him up so fast... Ahem, but anyway.) I had a hard time getting into it for the first couple of chapters and wasn't sure if I'd finish, but then the mystery hit, and I was riveted trying to figure out what exactly had happened to put them in this situation. And then...I'm not sure if I ever actually got the answers? Or at least, not ones that made any sense.
So, I think the upshot is that I misjudged the sort of holiday story this was going to be, and it ended up landing on probably my least favorite holiday story cliche, and one that I'd have stayed away from if I'd realized it. Not necessarily the book's fault, or the author's. However, I do have to say, the book was very clean and stayed away from too much physical description, which was a definite positive. If the whole plot had landed somewhere other than where it did, I would probably have rated it much higher, but yeah, that's a me thing. (:
Short sweet and adorable. I like the writing and the characters and their banter, but I think that the book should have been a little longer so that the love does not feel like insta love.
I received an advance copy of the book and I am leaving the review voluntarily.
J.P. Sterling did it again! This is the perfect follow-up to #minglealltheway. From beginning to end the season is full of surprises and laughter.#jpsterling
Absolutely amazing! Sweet and addicting just like the perfect candy cane. I love the funny moments and trying to figure things out along with them. I have read books along these lines before but this beat them all! It was so much fun. I'm seriously becoming a HUGE fan of J.P. Sterling and can't wait to read more of these. This is definitely a fun must read during any time of the year.
This book is part of the Christmas Shenanigans series, and the main characters are best friends Nick Briggs and Charlotte Bradbury, who meet up in the small town of Mapleton every Christmas for a get together. They live and work in completely different cities, with Nick in New York and Charlotte in Texas. Charlotte has been to three of her friend’s weddings at the Harbour Inn and Lodge in the town, who all chose the town for its perfect winter wonderland backdrop. She has a really bad record with dating and Nick has always been the one she could commiserate with, whilst he has become fed up with all the duck lips he has met. They are both fairly merry already, when she makes the suggestion that they make a pact together. If she is not married by the following Christmas, in some eleven months’ time, then she will give up on dating forever. She asks if he would like to join him and if neither of them are engaged, then they shall marry each other! What she doesn’t know, is that Nick has been in love with her ever since he first met her in Mapleton and has been waiting for her to realise it. As it gets close to the end of the year, she texts him to check up on their get together for Christmas and his replies are somewhat ambiguous in his meaning! As she visits her dad, an ex-Marine, he asks if she is off on another date and tells her he worries about her future all alone, so she tells him she is getting married to Nick.
Nick and Charlotte had already booked the honeymoon suite when they made their pact, and when they turn up to the hotel, they meet another couple who are going to be married there as well and are invited to have dinner that night. The next morning, they wake up with Charlotte on the bed in her mother’s wedding dress and Nick in his suit on a chair beside the bed. Neither of them have any memory of what happened and are uncertain if they are married or not, and hope there was some sort of misunderstanding. They try to retrace their steps of the previous day and figure out what their actual marital status really is but end up with even more mysteries along the way. Lots of comedy along the way as they are called by a different name and have people stopping them to reminisce about something they have done. From toys bought for the Santa toy drive, to an old-fashioned suit and one needed for a large dog they have somehow inherited, to an unexpected haircut. Everything brings confusion and even more mystery to the situation. As they discover each new surprise of the previous night, Charlotte starts to get butterflies around Nick, and they make her wonder if she has real feelings for Nick. Nick however, has taken her shocked reaction to the fact they could be married, in completely the opposite way, and thinks it may ell be time for him to give up on his dream of her ever getting any feelings for him. She is wondering if she should make her new feelings clear to him but worries she could ruin their decade long friendship if she does so!
A short tale of an unusual pact to marry by the time they turn thirty, if they haven’t found a suitable partner by then. One side of the friendship has waited all these years for the woman he loves to realise he is perfect for her. The best part is the adventures they go on, after waking up in wedding attire with a huge dog on the bed and then what happens as they try to trace their steps to their wedding or non-wedding, as the case may be. Lots of laughs and a slow realisation that her friendship has actually been with the man who fits her perfectly and she was just too blind to see all this time! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout, and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
A friends-to-more clean, Christmasy romance between Nick and Charlotte, two longtime friends who (somewhat jokingly) make a pact to marry in a year if they haven’t found a significant other. When they wake up in wedding attire the morning after their planned marriage unable to recall the evening’s events, they must piece together what happened and reconcile the events with their feelings.
A quick, clean Christmasy romance. Three stars: just okay.
What does a Mystery wedding, maxed out credit card and a homeless dog all have in common? Read to find out in this romantic comedy, a friends to lovers trope starring Charlotte & Nick!!
It is a quick read and at times you may feel the romance is rushed BUT keep in mind that is this a friends to lovers trope so they have a history and you do get glimpses of how they got to where they are but many of it is implied. Based on how they banter and have fun you know they have a close and meaningful friendship.
There are so many fun aspects of this book - I love how Nick uses random big vocabulary like - Zemblanity - opposite of serendipity. “Instead of happy accident, it’s a bad discovery.” Their journey to discovering what had happened in lost time/bout of amnesia was fun and hilarious! Wanna know how to keep a car door latched when it’s broken?? Read and find out Nick’s hilarious solution!
I LOVED Nick. So patient and loyal. Kind, protective, and a leader. I mean when he says this to Charlotte (at some point in the story) — “I was worried that I wouldn’t get the perfect ring or say the perfect thing, but something I learned this year is that the perfect moment with you is always now.” I mean total swoon worthy!! At times I truly felt that Charlotte did NOT deserve him. She had kinda annoyed me on how self-centered she had been when it comes to wanting to seriously date and find a future husband. Her dates were pretty funny though. Like OPEN.YOUR.EYES.GIRLFRIEND and see what is in front of you!
Overall a light hearted, Christmas theme, and clean romance. Kisses only and no use of bad language which I appreciate very much.
I received a copy of this book via BookSprout and all my thoughts and opinions are my own.
Want a Christmas wedding ? Go to Mapleton , well that’s what Charlotte Bradbury’s friends did and she should know . Forever the bridesmaid , never the bride? Yep that’s she. It’s not exactly how she wants it to be but there you go. Surely she’d stayed here as a bridesmaid enough times to upgrade to bride? Any takers? Groovers and makers , movers and shakers? Single and free? Anyone out there for me? Nick my friend what do you think ? “Do I want to go to vineyards and apple orchards,” Nick cut in . “ They have the best hard cider.” “ Cheers to apple orchards!” See her best friend Nate , he can relate. Knows how she feels. They even made a pact , as a matter of fact. Just on this very subject. Seal the deal and get a ring on it by the age of thirty , or seek each other out for a Merry Christmas followed by a wedded new year. Clear? They even booked their honeymoon! ….Oops what did they do? Well here she was in a wedding dress , rice on the bed…from the hair on her head . Nick and she in a marital bed. Doesn’t actually fill her with dread. Come clean ? Risk it all. Does she get to actually live it all? Or is this one big mess and he leaves her and all…. Does she bawl or have a ball. Do or die . Here you go. Hitch up those britches and see if you hitchers actually got hitched , is it legit. Brilliant!JP Sterling this is super , certainly did not leave us in a stupor! Awesomely hilarious situations , your creations are sublime. Perfect writing , immersive and fun . I’ve had a great time. Hurry up and write us another one …please. Because this was class and a veritable treat to read.
This is the christmas book you definitely don't want to miss. J.P. has the ability to write stories that pull you in and you become engrossed and feel part of the story. This book will have you laughing out loud endlessly with the constant mishaps that take shape. Charlotte has always been the bridesmaid with majority of her friends married or due to marry, when would it be her turn. Every relationship never lasted except for her friendship with Nick, but that's why he's her best friend. Nick always goes back to his hometown during the festive season Mapleton was perfect for the season. He loved meeting up with his bestfriend Charlotte, but his feelings where more than friendship. When they make a psct to marry in a year it takes on an hilarious outcome. Between shaved heads, Rudolph cutouts and a huge stray dog oh and don't forget the Poinsettia Champagne (which I'd definitely avoid at all costs) this book will have you believing in Santa. Make sure to add this to your tbr list and always remember Carpe Diem ❤️📖🎄☃️🐕🦌🎅❤️
Oh my goodness. I have laughed so hard that I have cried and smiled and laughed and some more. This Christmas novella is perfect, especially if you need a little pick me up. Who knew a marriage pact could be so dangerous?
This book was 27 Dresses meets Alice in Wonderland with a glass of Poinsettia champagne. Nick and Charlotte feel as if they have woken up in an alternate reality with a new haircut and a wedding gown in the honeymoon suite. Add in their gracious giving to a toy drive, a giant dog and foggy memories which all add up to the perfect storm.
I loved both Charlotte and Nick. Nick was my favorite with his gentlemanly ways. He would also make a great Scrabble partner with his rare word obsession.
I never expected this book to go in the direction it headed. I was pleasantly surprised as I flew through the pages with a humongous smile on my face the entire time. Christmas magic from Santa Claus is just what they needed.
Thank you to Booksprout and the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Seriously enjoyed the laughs from reading this one! It's definitely entertaining! It's kinda sorta like a 27 Dresses meets The Hangover (retracing steps trying to figure out what happened), but CLEAN - this is a clean romance novella. Super fun, nonetheless!
I adored Nick. He's loyal, kind, and patient. His knack for using big, unusual vocabulary words is cute. He definitely will keep a girl learning new words!
Oh, and the Santa interaction? ✨ Absolutely magical! ✨ I loved reading this part so much that I read it twice before continuing on with the story.
Be mindful of the poinsettia champagne in Mapleton. You never know what kind of chaos (or loveeee) you might find with its help! 🥂
🥂 friends to lovers 💳 romcom 🥂 marriage pact 💳 mystery holidaze
Holidays are the perfect time to eat, drink and get married…or so thought best friends Nick and Charlotte.
Charlotte and Nick have been best friends for a long time and every year meet up in Nicks hometown every winter to hang out. This year Charlotte comes up with a plan make a pack…that if she isn’t married or at least engaged then she is giving up on dating, which turns into them agreeing to get married to each other. Eleven months later Charlotte and Nick meet up. Waking up dressed in a wedding gown, tux and a dog in a best man suit…with no memory of what happened. Will they figure out what happened that night?
This is a cute holiday novella that can be read in one sitting. Friends to more is one of my favorite tropes, and this one was so fun. My favorite part was the journey Charlotte and Nick took to figure out what happened. If are looking for a fun quick read then this is one to read. You will even learn some fun new vocabulary from Nick for different things…see quotes for example.
This is book two in the Christmas Shenanigans series.
Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. That’s what Charlotte feels like and that is also why she comes up with the perfect plan: when she and her best friend Nick are still single at Christmas time, they will get married.
‘Tis the Season to Get Married was once again a very funny book by J.P. Sterling. From the very first I loved reading this book. Charlotte is a great and adorable character, I just loved her. She has no idea that Nick has feelings for her, so he thinks it’s a wonderful idea. But when they get some memory loss, things get really funny.
The writing style is great, flowing and J.P. Sterling has a typical sense of humor, so I read this book with a smile. Some things were quite hilarious.
I am a big fan of J.P. Sterling and I loved this book. It is a quick read, a cute and fun Christmas themed story, with a funny writing style and two characters who are just so right for each other.
Christmas Shenanigans are my favorite, so when Charlotte and Nick make a marriage pact and then don't remember getting married at Christmas, what could be better? Retracing their steps in a "holidaze" proves to be hysterical... a surprise pet, an unexpected haircut, expensive do-gooding, and a meeting with Santa... it all leads to a surprise conclusion.
I LOVED Nick's funny rare word play. I adore a goofy, hunky, cinnamon roll in my MMCs. His one-sided pining for his best friend is the sweetest. And just when you think he might give up on Charlotte, Christmas weaves its magic, and it was so much fun.
This was a quick, light, sweet read and perfect for the holidays or any time.
I received a complimentary copy of the author's story to read and review. All thoughts contained here are my own.
Charlotte and Nick are tired of watching their friends get married and having no prospects for their own spouse. So, they make a pact that if they don’t find “the one” before Christmas, they will marry each other. Nick has been in love with Charlotte for over 10 years, but hasn’t had the guts to tell her. When Christmas time arrives, and they’re still single, they make their annual trip back to Mapleton. When they awake the morning after their arrival, they are full of questions as they don’t remember what happened the night before! As they unravel the mystery, will they finally get the answers their hearts have been longing for?
Paws-itively swoon-worthy, this romantic comedy is the pick-me-up holiday read you need! With its fetching friends-to-lovers trope, featuring Charlotte and Nick, you'll be howling for more. The mystery drink, maxed-out credit card, and homeless dog add a delightful twist to the tale. Don't worry if the romance feels a bit ruff – the characters have a history, and you'll get glimpses of their past throughout. Nick's use of big vocabulary is the envy of every writer, as well as his and Charlotte's journey to uncover the truth about their past mystery night is a doggone good time! I've read several books by JP and she never disappoints - definitely 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A cute story about a marriage pact and then not remembering what happened after a celebratory drink the previous evening. I loved the way the Nick and Charlotte retraced their steps hoping to clarify what actually happened. In reality the lengthy process was confusing as well as hilarious. An unexplained large dog in a bowtie, Santa, a cardboard reindeer, and one shaved head made an interesting story. What I liked best was the unusual vocabulary throughout the book all because Nick's penchant for using words that were obscure. Fun and certainly a different kind of love story.
This was a cute and quick read. It started off super strong and funny. In the middle it was a little meh because it became more like following teens around with some of their inner thoughts. But it all came together in the end. Glad I stuck with it. The only thing i didn't like was how neither of them cared when they hurt each other's feelings. That didn't sure will with me. Neither ever apologized either and they're supposed to be best friends.

This was such a sweet Christmas romance! Nick and Charlotte have been besties for ten years, and they make a pact to get married if they are both still single at Christmas. I was so hoping that they would both end up single at Christmas, their meet cute was so perfect, even if Charlotte did friend-zone Nick. They meet up at Christmas and hilarity ensues. After a few drinks with new friends, neither of them can remember if they actually tied the knot! So many fun adventures and sweet moments, but will they lead to a HEA? 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
This is great story of how a friendship can get so comfortable that you almost miss what a great thing is right in front of you. I laughed out loud at some of the antics Charlotte and Nick went through on their journey to discover where they belonged. There is even a lovable dog toward the end that helps to guide them. I definitely recommend this book if you like romantic comedies with a happily ever after.

A nice short read. A typical friends to lovers trope this is not. It’s off the wall and amusing. I loved Nick’s penchant for rare words. I loved the best man. As the story unravels you don’t know where it’s headed to next. Definitely recommend for a fun quick read.

Nick and Charlotte's story is super sweet! I loved their friendship, and I loved the pact they made, and then I thoroughly enjoyed watching their journey of their forgotten evening...
Buddy was an absolute hit for me! And I really loved the ending. :)
This is a fabulous Christmas story and a definite fun read!.

This was such a cute story about a marriage pact between two best friends wishing for their own HEA, not remembering what happened and a wedding! I loved how Nick and Charlotte had to retrace their steps to solve what happened the night before! The process was hilarious and I laughed a lot! I loved Nicks love for words! I loved that we got to take this hilarious trip with them. These two had me at hello! Definitely recommend this one!
This is a sweet and entertaining, short story book that holds your attention from beginning to end. The storyline is intriguing with a promise to marry each other, even though they’re friends. The characters are fun as the interact with each other with a strong relationship that has more depth to it than they realize. I enjoyed this book.
