Cassiopia Cassell’s high IQ had always been too much for the men she’d dated. But now her beloved father was missing, and the only way to rescue him required she retain the services of a man with special abilities, a man she did not care for, and one she would have to convince to accompany her through an unexplained portal that led to dangers beyond imagination.

Wow !

I like the writing style of E.R. Mason. I've read some books of outer space and thoroughly enjoyed them. This book will capture your attention and the fantasy will entice your curiosity

This book for me was a mixed bag. It has tonnes of potential and some really good ideas. Unfortunately, it seems to be two books in one. There's one storyline which has this artefact that causes people to see their true being (and therefore the suicides of some bad guys). Simultaneously, there's the storyline with the missing physicist, hidden experiments and a portal to another world. Each of these plots has potential to be great books in their own right, I just don't understand why they've been put together.

That said, I have put book 2 on my wishlist, so it can't have been that bad. I just hope this book focuses on the Cassiopia/SciFi side of things...

Only for a young reader

I read 50 pages of this book and had quite enough. The storyline is very childish and very on natural

This book is one of my absolute favorites. Combining Sci-fi, alternate reality, artificial intelligence, natural intelligence , inner and outer worlds plus a bit of a romance angle.

Cassiopia's father has gone missing, and she and Scott Markman are trying to find him with the help of a very special prototype AI robot that her father has, but shouldn't have. Fortunately Cassiopia is the AI Scientist who programmed the Tel (the robot), and the threesome are able to work together to find the missing professor.

Scott is a consultant to law enforcement in an unofficial official way, or an official unofficial way, but he's not your typical Fed or Local law enforcement type. He's Mr. Action for sure, but with an eastern philosophy point of view. Cassiopia is all geek, logic and finding her dad, but there's "something" that sparks between these two characters.

The professor is the classic absentminded genius, once he does show up, and the Tel - the robot - is AWESOME.

The Empty Door of the title is the mystery, with lower case m and upper case M both. There is another world/s on the other side of the door that goes nowhere. It leads nowhere, but when a person steps through it, it takes that person someplace else - somewhere different. And it's an amazing journey with Cassiopia and Scott as they search the 'there' trying to find her father.

Not your average book. Not your average story line. But if you like the sounds of what I have described I hope you would like this book.

It's a favorite among favorites for me and I am ever so thankful that the author created this and that he has written not just this book but a continuing series of sequels with the same characters and theme/world/feeling.

I am not sure how I got this book, but yesterday I finished a book and wrote a review on the beach and discovered I was out of library books. I did not have my card with me (I really should memorize that number) and so I scrolled through my kindle for something short and easy pre-loaded. This was both, and that is about the best I can say.

The character are not believable in any way, nor are they interesting or compelling (Cassie is beautiful but she has difficulty relating to others), Scott is tough guy with a Tibetan monk background. The beginning is Indiana-Jones-ish and the terrorist who are chasing the box is just ridiculous and extra drama. The love story was obvious and required and the fact that it took them the entire book to realize that there were doubles infiltrating our world is just thick.

I found the grammar mistakes and typos very annoying in the copy that I have (and I see others have commented on this as well). There were also a couple spots that seemed as if it was written in a different era: calling each other Ms. and Mr. and then making a big deal out of the use of first names and when Cassie called her machine an "answerer".

Overall it was just a dumb book. Not worth the time, even as a beach read.

I enjoyed the concept of this book a lot. I did like the characters, but the character relationships and the plot itself were kind of jumpy in my opinion - there were a lot of leaps without any build up. Especially the last third or so didn't feel explained enough - it was a "How did everyone get here?" kind of thing. The attempts to allude to it earlier in the book just weren't enough to explain the sudden jump.
I really liked all the Eastern philosophy stuff because I always enjoy learning about other viewpoints and what in history they are based on.
Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit, but just feel that it could have been even better.

First of all, I loved the story and the characters. I found the typos very distracting. Don't be afraid to pass the book around to some friends for editing purposes before publishing. The final 5 or 6 pages were completely unnecessary and just annoying. I skimmed them because it was so bad. The story ended long before that tirade so it could have been left out completely or at least shortened, a lot. This would have been a 5 star book without the last few pages and the typos. Have read others by this author and loved those stories as well so I will read more of his work.

I really enjoyed this book. I did feel that parts of the plot went unexplained, but overall it was well-paced and fun. Now it's on to the sequel - onward & upward!
