An interesting, if brief, new approach to periodizing the Roman Republic(s). I appreciate how the narrative kept moving and stayed focused on the main argument, but I wish more time could have been spent on the earlier republics and why they were so different rather than focusing so much on the time of Sulla. Though of course, we have much more records for the latter.
