This is a worthless book unless you happen to be in that niche of people who are raising support to serve in that mission organization. I'm in that niche, and "Funding the family business" is valuable to me. Looking at both the Biblical foundation and practical side of raising support, Myles Wilson seems to anticipate every question, every doubt, every roadblock. If you're doing this for the first time, I highly recommend getting a copy of this book, if you're able to. Since Wilson is from the United Kingdom, not everything is a perfect fit for an American, including the money he's talking about. A list of resources at the back of the book is only useful for British readers. He also uses terminology from the organization he has served with. It might not have exactly matching terminology with yours. I get the general idea of what "standing order forms" and "Gift Aid Declaration forms" are, but it's not the terminology used by the organization I represent. (And why is the one capitalized and the other not?) But on either side of the pond, I'd say it's a valuable resource for those of us in the niche.
This book has a lot of great things to say about support raising! There were a lot of really helpful tips, and I liked the chapters about the Biblical basis for raising support. It was a little longwinded in places, but overall, it really helped me - and definitely helped change my view on raising support!
This book is a great tool for anyone having to raise support (read the book to understand the emphasis...). It explains in a clear and inspiring manner the different steps in building a group of dedicated partners for your ministry, both financial and spiritual. The book not only offers practicalities, but also a Biblical foundation and has a keen eye for all the excuses, embarassment and pitfalls encountered in raising support.
