This book is essentially a handbook for starting a successful volunteer conservation organization. He addresses membership growth and engagement, burnout, organizational communication, and interaction with government and private agencies. He also includes directions for creating meaningful structures in compromised streams to promote healthy restoration.
Owen’s experience in starting, growing, and maintaining the Valley Forge chapter of Trout Unlimited is inspiring and informative. The chapter is still going strong nearly 50 years later thanks to the hard work invested by Owen and the founding members.
