Nicholas Sharp can find himself in some pretty convoluted scenarios and this one is undoubtedly a whopper. His friend, Teddy Best, an ardent environmentalist, stumbles upon some worrisome evidence of sabotage, demolition cord, that could result in serious environmental damage by blowing the underwater crude oil and gas pipelines. But this friend doesn't return home. His wife calls Nick, hoping he can help. When Nick arrives in Guyana, the wife, Amanda, has disappeared as well.
Alarmed, Nick calls in his close friend and help, Jack Greatrex, and together they go in search of Teddy. What they uncover is a nefarious plot by middle eastern oil magnates to eliminate all offshore oil exploration by sabotaging the oil wells and transmission pipelines. This is done with the willing help of a off-books black-ops group called Compass Black. It also involves imbedding subversive elements into Crimson Wave, one of the largest pro-environmental groups in the world, as well as kidnapping and holding hostage the teenage son of its chief office holder, Captain Deagan Jones. All of this leads us to the climax in the Gulf of Mexica where a Mexican Standoff of sorts plays out. Just a note here, there will be NO spoiler here. Just suffice it to say that if you aren't glued to your seat, unable to put down this book by the mid point, you will definitely be welded to it by the three-quarters point and seeking sleep by the ending pages! But you'll keep going. I know you will. I did!
