"In Belle Bannon, Mike Pace has created a female Pike Logan, Scot Harvath or Mitch Rapp. A heroine who can kick the ass of anyone or anything, except the demons haunting her."- Jon Land, USA Today bestselling author of the Caitlin Strong series
Belle Bannon's younger sister works as an intern at a western artifacts museum in the Texas panhandle. Two rogue Chinese agents mistake her for Nora Yates, the curator of the museum, and kidnap her. The kidnappers give Belle and Nora seventy-two hours to decode a series of obscure Comanche symbols on Chief Quanah Parker’s war lance, or Belle’s sister will die.
The search for clues necessary to decode the symbols takes them across the dusty plains of west Texas, through New Mexico’s labyrinth of caverns, and deep into the fetid Louisiana bayou. What they discover along their journey is that the symbols lead to the location of a mysterious jade box, the contents of which can make the kidnappers filthy rich. Belle and Nora not only have to deal with the kidnappers, but also fight off an opposing force—lethal Chinese agents who are willing to do anything, including killing innocent people, to prevent the contents of the jade box from surfacing.
It's then that Belle realizes she faces an impossible If she and Nora survive, beat the ticking clock, and save her sister . . .
. . . the end result could be nuclear war with China.

No matter what path thriller author Mike Pace has walked, it’s always been with a story to tell. One of Mike’s earliest memories is helping to write the fourth grade Christmas play at his Pittsburgh elementary school.
Born in Pittsburgh, Mike attended the University of Illinois on an art scholarship, and graduated with a BFA degree.
Mike has written for the stage and screen. The Washington Post called one of his plays “engaging … entertaining and … witty.” He wrote and directed a short film that was accepted into film festivals in Kansas City and Portland.
He’s a member of the International Thriller Writers and the Maryland Writers Association. He’s a strong believer in community responsibility, having served as president of his local school board.
This is a typical mystery/ thriller. It's not very good, but it's not horrible. The T.R. and Q. Parker connection piqued my interest, prompting me to do a little research. I was familiar with both parties, but wanted to learn more. This is why I read. Even in a sub par book such as this, you can often find a hidden gem, learn a new word or refresh your memory of one you've forgotten. I'll give this a 3 for that reason. Otherwise, I would rate it 2.5.
Another interesting thriller for Belle Bannon, this one has her criss crossing most of the southwestern US. Will she find the treasure in time and is it really worth it, and after a hundred plus years will it still be there? The romance between her and Alonzo continues to grow and we are treated to meeting more of the Bannon clan and some of their back story. All in all not a bad book for second in the series.
Nice little thriller taking place 100% in the modern American West. Interesting twist on American\Chinese history. Belle Cannon is a hunting guide in Utah who visits her sister working at a western museum when her sister is kidnapped in error. This leads to a pursuit involving Chinese and historical puzzles.
Intense and thrilling ride in this story. Keeps you hooked until the end. Like the strong female lead characters that you follow on this journey of twists and turns and unexpected events. Good read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
An exciting, fast moving story that was well researched and believable. Pace is a skilled writer of dialogue, especially, and the plot incorporated some very interesting fictionalized true events. Some violence, but not gratuitous. Want to read others in this series.
