Digital box set of the first three murder mystery books from the Losers Club series.
The Losers Club – Book 1
Mumsnet recommended Summer read 2022 with over 700 five-star Amazon reviews.
There’s a murderer on the loose on a storm swept island cut off from the Scottish mainland. It’s down to Losers Club, a quirky weight loss group led by the intrepid Penny Moon, to catch the culprit.
Local Hero meets the Thursday Murder Club in this light-hearted and fun murder mystery which will keep you guessing
When Old Archie the postman is shot and ends up in Mrs Hubbard's ice cream freezer, the whole island is aghast. Especially Mr Hubbard, who objects strongly to having to move all the ice lollies into the other freezer.
Newly divorced and desperate to make a life for herself and her teenage children, Penny Moon arrives on Vik just in the nick of time, before the island is cut off by a storm.
Her weight loss business doesn't have the best of starts, when a series of blunders leads to it being called Losers Club. However, it does have the best of people - a decent, disparate bunch who decide that, with the police unlikely to arrive any time soon and a murderer on the loose, it is down to Losers Club to investigate.
As they dig deeper into the mystery, they uncover a dark secret, kept by the older islanders for almost half a century. A secret that has come back to haunt them and threatens their very existence.
The Laird’s Ladle – Book 2
Oh dearie me, the remote Scottish island of Vik is overrun with treasure hunters, Hollywood has arrived to film the next big blockbuster and Mrs Hubbard has accidentally poisoned Police Scotland. What a stramash!
When Colin the curator is found bludgeoned to death in the museum, it’s down to the island weight-loss group, Losers Club, to investigate. Following in the footsteps of Colin, the Losers Club friends find themselves hunting a lost Jacobite treasure and unravelling an international conspiracy. Who are the mysterious secret keepers, who killed Colin and what terrible, terrible thing has Gordon done?
The Angels’ Share – Book 3
Tensions are rising in the run up to the island event of the year - the Vik Show. Not only has the secret recipe for Mrs Hay’s peppermint slices been stolen, but someone has had the bad manners to leave a dead body in the distillery. And what does any of this have to do with the disappearance of Elsie the librarian?
A perfect storm of past secrets and political conspiracy is brewing, and it’s up to the local weight-loss group, Losers Club, to save the day.
As a child, I loved reading. I spent my life with my nose in a book and, when finally forced back into the real world, I wrote poetry and stories. My hero was Pam Ayres and all I wanted to be when I grew up was a librarian, so that I could be around books all the time.
Of course, life takes you on different paths. Somehow, writing poems and stories got lost along the way. I was too busy partying in London through my twenties then being a mum through my thirties and forties. But on an August morning in 2018, at the tender age of forty-eight, I decided to create a blog on Facebook. Ten minutes later, Growing Old Disgracefully was born and the love of writing came flooding back. Encouraged by my lovely readers, I finally got off my lazy behind, put fingers to keyboard and wrote my first book, The Big Blue Jobbie, then another, and another.
Once more, I have a head full of stories and I can’t wait to tell them to you.
I loved these books. So many laugh out loud moments. So many new curse words curtesy of Sgt Wilson. If you think this book is about a bunch of people who want to lose weight, you’d only be a teeny tiny bit right. It’s more about a bunch of different people who live in the made up island of Vik which is a ferry ride from Aberdeen who come together to help solve a murder. They’re a bunch of people who are so different but are there for each other when things get tough. Stroppy teenagers, a busybody shop keeper, a vet and many more laugh out loud, larger than life characters.Theres laughs, loss, celebrity knitting and a fair bit of chaos. There’s 3 books in this box set and I loved every one.
A three book set. Each with a murder mystery. Laugh out loud Hilarious! Language is a mix of English, a little of a local Scots dialect, with a good measure of funny colloquialisms. Characters of three generations. Any and all subjects are spoken of. Just life. No one’s embarrassed. Characters include an elderly maiden librarian, a female sergeant who snarls and swears mightily, a wife and mother who is continually learning a language but always gets the words wrong down to teenage twins. I was hooked only a few pages in.
Really infantile humor, a group of characters who are each crazier than the next, and a pretty outrageously unbelievable plotline. Not for me, thanks. One was enough.
What a truly entertaining read absolutely lifted my spirits. Sometimes you buy a book that says laugh out loud and you barely raise a titter. These books made me belly laugh. Brilliant 👏
