Heaven has fallen, Hell has ascended, and archangels rule the world with iron fists. The only place left with any freedom is Sin City. The devil's playground. Grace Morningstar, the secret granddaughter of Lucifer, is living in Sin City, a dangerous metropolis once known as Las Vegas now ruled by the devil and the seven Princes of Hell. Here, everyone has a sin that calls to them, even Grace.
Despite the danger, Grace is determined to uncover the truth behind the sex trafficking ring that has preyed upon the human women in Sin City. With the help of her fallen angel partner, Jax, and her long-time crush, Finn, a demon bar owner, Grace goes undercover as a barmaid in hopes of discovering the source of the criminal enterprise. When Grace is kidnapped by one of the leaders of the sex trafficking ring, she is forced to fight for her freedom… Only, she fears she will be its next victim instead.
The fight against good and evil has begun. Welcome to Sin City…
Riley Hunt is the pen name of Trish Beninato. She writes both adult and young adult fantasy, sci-fi, and paranormal with a little romance and strong female leads that kick ass all on their own. She lives in Maryland currently, but who knows where she will end up next, even she doesn’t know. She holds a master’s in Education with an emphasis on Reading Literacy, but instead writes the literature she once sought to teach. She is a wine and coffee enthusiast who overindulges way too much. A proud nerd to the core, you’ll find Star Wars and Marvel characters littering the shelves of her office; which she uses influence from as she writes her stories
I enjoyed reading Grace’s journey. This takes place in a futuristic time where something happened that the “creator” kicked all angels from heaven and more they live among humans and the archangels rule earth. However also the Devil, Prince’s of hell, and demons too live among humans in Nevada. From the breeding we to read about why she ended up growing up in sin city with a grandfather who in his own, strict and controlling, way loves her. Even though she is descendent of demonic bloodlines, angelic, and human she does her best to do good. She works with the local law enforcement to help keep the humans safe and even runs a soup kitchen to feed lost souls that have succumbed to their sins. Throughout the story we follow her along as she tries to solve the mystery of why women are disappearing. She does this while waiting for her ascension. This is when offspring of either an angelic or demonic parent go through a physical change and find out wether they get powers or remain human. We get to meet her life long sexy, with an Irish accent 😏, crush and her partner/bodyguard Jax who constantly flirts with her. Spicy 🌶️ level of at 2/5, most of it is towards the end (this is for those who may be looking for spice). However, we get a huge twist with a cliffhanger!
What I liked: *Each Sin has their own house for people and demons to indulge in, sometimes too much *I liked that the angels are not portrayed as perfect beings. *Grace’s stubbornness makes her more realistic because this gets her in to trouble *Interesting world where angels only see good and bad but nothing in between, where as in Lucifer’s territory people are free to do as they please but are in danger to be preyed upon by evil beings
Reason for 4/5 stars: I felt that for a character trying to solve a crime theory needed to be more on trying to solve the mystery. We get a lot of time reading about her own issues and love interests but not enough with trying to find out who and why could someone be kidnapping women. By the time she finds out it almost I felt like it was just some random character.
If you like paranormal I would recommend this to you
“I enjoyed making people who hurt the innocent hurt even more. I had issues to work out. I’m not perfect.”
Her mission in life: saving the women and children. How much of that was driven by her grandfather, Lucifer himself, or by her after her mother was killed, is a question. But there is no question that Grace has a deep character. Grace wonders where celestials and demons go after they die. She wonders if vengeance will deliver justice. And she wonders if Lucifer truly loves her as family, or if he sees the wife he once loved.
In this world, the angels have been cast out of heaven, and each controls a territory, with Nevada controlled by Lucifer. While chaotic and filled with demons, Lucifer’s territory is less dictatorial, less communist. As Grace recognizes, it’s not a good place to be, but it may be better than the areas the angels control.
Grace has one tiny little character flaw, in my mind. She feels an affinity to Wrath, and her anger can destroy a building. Every time something goes wrong while undercover, she needs knuckle therapy. It annoys me, but is in her character.
The world is so refreshingly different. The mix of paranormal with the familiar is seemless. Casinos are run by the Seven Deadly Sins. Humans who escape the angel-controlled territories don’t stay in the city. They might be assigned jobs in the other areas of Nevada. America is a dictatorship, which is something I fear.
Grace’s closeness to Lucifer is an open secret, which allows her to stretch beyond her human limitations to visit prohibited areas, and it gets her into trouble. She has a history of epilepsy and an unnatural attraction to a demon named Flynn. Which leads to the romance. While the romance is sweet, possibly fated, the sexual situations need warnings: ⁃ Attempted rape (while undercover) ⁃ Very detailed consentual sex ⁃ Slow burn (sex is near the end of the story)
This is a complete story arc with some elements left for book 2. Single POV, MF, but seems like a love triangle. I love Love Triangles! Dark dystopian world Competent heroine Strong characters, strong plot, consistently paced...I loved it all.
Let me start off by saying this is my first book by Riley Hunt and I will say it definitely won’t be my last. It is a stunning story that will have you on the edge of your seat. It is packed with drama, suspense, mystery and action. Grace is a character that is as much human as she supernatural. She is strong with a righteous sense of justice. She is full of humor at times that will have you laughing out loud. I love the uniqueness of this story as you journey with Grace and her trying to solve the case that she working on. The Sins and how they are portrayed throughout the story just adds to that uniqueness. I loved the interactions with the different characters and their personalities were felt throughout the story. These characters quickly become like friends or family as you can feel their emotions throughout the story. You end up experiencing them just as strongly as they do. Then we get to the end and there is a shockingly major cliffhanger that has me absolutely needing the next book as soon as possible. This is definitely a must read and it doesn’t disappoint.
This story was an interesting take on Angels and Demons residing in Earth, with Sin City being the last place where free will is allowed.
I loved watching the main character Grace grow throughout this story, as she goes from a young woman under watch worried that she would never ascend to a powerful being in charge of her life.
This story also features a cast a great supporting characters including the Deadly Sins, guardian angel Jax, and sexy demon Finn, all with their own quirks and backstories. Each lends a unique piece to this story, supporting the overall storyline.
The storyline itself was intriguing, full of action, mystery and steam. It held my interest throughout the book, keeping me turning pages past bedtime. And that cliffhanger ending!!!!
Overall I loved the book and can’t wait to continue the series!
Good read. The book starts right out of the gate with the greatest loss a child can go through the loss of a parent. Flows right into adulthood and the internal world of good and evil or so you think. So when I read any book I immerse myself into the characters. Riley builds the characters up so you have a clear picture of who they are and what they are about. Grace, Jax, and Rayln had my heart right out of the gate. Riley's depiction of Sin City aka Las Vegas is how I always pictured it in my head. Demons and angels co-mingling in a world created specifically for them. Awesome Read hands down.
I tried to give this another shot and got to 12%. There is just far too much inner-monologuing to over explain things. It’s a somewhat lazy form of exposition that takes me out of the story as there are paragraphs of inner thoughts each time a character speaks, completely interrupting the flow. A lot of it is not even necessary to the story
This is the first book I've ready by this author and it did not disappoint! I loved this spin on angels and demons. It had it's sexy, steamy moments but also did a great job keeping me engaged with the story as well. I was not expecting the twist at the end. Hope the next one doesn't take too long to release!
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
MC gave me Lucifer vibes (TV series). That in itself hooked me, but her love interest is also dreamy. The world building and story kept me fascinated as well.
An wonderful actionfilled paranormal urban fantasy story.
We follow the main character Grace who after a death of a parent, goes to life by her grandfather Lucifer in Sin City. Grace works as a detective. When she wants to uncover the truth behind the sex trafficking ring, together with Jax and Finn, she uncovers more then she maybe wanted to know about herself.
I really love this unique storyline. The world which Sin City places in is ruled by archangels expect for the demons that rule over their city. The world-building is great and makes Sin City a real dangerous city in this world.
Grace is a powerfull whitty women who does what she wants. Jax and Finn both are handsome, great guys who have bad boys protective vibes. Their dynamic is full with banter and romantically/seksual tension. Their is a little bit of a love traingle going on.
The book is full with suspense, mystery, action and twist and turns that makes you want to uncover the secrets together with the trio. The book end on a cliffhanger with a sideplot that I defintely didn't expect.
Sin City (Fallen Legacy series Book 1), my first read from author Riley Hunt & Trish Beninato. A Paranormal & Urban Fantasy that caught my attention when I read the blurb in the author's email offering an ARC. I look forward to reading more from this author if you're offended by adult nature you might not like this book. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
