Three Girls and a Baby

Rate this book
Ginny McKensie's life is spiraling out of control.

Finished with college, she should have been planning her wedding. After all, Ginny and Josh were made for each other—everyone said so. Except the love of her life didn't agree.

Now Ginny is back in her hometown, unwillingly single, and stuck in a dead-end job. When she discovers she's pregnant, Ginny is convinced her life is ending. Instead of planning a future with Josh, she's learning the truth about morning sickness, juggling bills, and seeing just how far designer jeans can stretch.

Her life-plan never included dating again (not even with her too-hot new boss), or being a single mother at 23. Now, with the help of her best friends, Annie and Jen, Ginny must try to re-imagine—and rebuild—a life she never wanted.

First let me say, please do not let my review sway anyone from reading this book. Apparently, others enjoyed this story.

In my opinion, this book left a lot to be desired. For some reason I was under the impression that this would be a cute, slightly humorous book about a single girl and the crazy ups-and-downs of pregnancy and raising a baby with the help of two best friends. I was extremely disappointed. In reality, the book centers around Ginny's inability to get over her ex-boyfriend and her obsession with him. She made me want to slap her. The whole story was drawn out far more than it needed to be, and the only reason I continued to read this story was because I really hate not giving a book a 100% chance. By the end of the book, I was glad to see that the main character was finally an independent(ish)woman, but was even more excited that the story was finally over.

I enjoyed this book; it is about a journey of self-discovery, friendship, love, and, of course, motherhood.
I didn’t much like Ginny at the beginning of the book, but she grew on me as she grew herself during the book.
The story is well structured, in the beginning it keeps you interested because you want to know what happened between Ginny and Josh, and then you want to know how it will end.
I had guessed the main coup de théâtre… but hey, I like it when I get it right.
The only thing I didn’t dig was the great gorgeous bachelor falling for the pregnant girl…

I got this book as a Kindle Freebie and really didn't know what to expect.

I was very pleasantly surprised. The story of Ginny and her two best friends Jen and Annie was one of friendship, coming of age, and finding your place in the grown up world...especially when your world is suddenly turned upside down.

I really enjoyed the storytelling, not just the content, but the writing as well. I thought the book was beautifully written with passages that were both realistic and descriptive in a way that grabbed me. An example: "my favorite was the one I imagined on his face now - the small, half-smile that meant he was thinking of something beautiful". I just found so many moments in the writing that made me pause because of how beautifully they were worded.

The book also had me laughing out loud at times, and brought tears to my eyes in others.

I also very much enjoyed the characters, Ginny, Jen, Annie, Josh, and all the rest were real characters, people I could see in my life, with real emotions and reactions and language.

When I picked this book up, I didn't realize it was the first in a series. I don't generally read series, especially of kindle freebies, but I have to say, I WILL be picking up the rest of the books in this series. I can't wait to read Jen's story in the second book.

I thought this book was well written but didn't enjoy the story itself. The main character is whiny and self-obsessed to the point of being unlikeable.

The story is about a chick who gets knocked up to her ex-boyfriend but only near the end of the book in a throw-away comment does anyone say that maybe she should've used some form of birth control if she is going to have sex with her ex.

I found her far too passive. Her way of dealing with the unwanted pregnancy is to do nothing. She loses her job as a nanny because she can't get to work on time. I'd have thought an unmarried mother with no other source of income would be more worried about supporting herself. This wouldn't have been such an issue if she'd have become more proactive in the end, but to the last she has other people sort out her problems.

The one thing that really bugged me in the book is that she mentions being a feminist when a guy pulls out her chair for her at dinner. I'm not sure if she's meant to be being ironic here or what since in most of her actions, she is as unfeminist as you can get, waiting around for a man to rescue her.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did.

Ginny lives with Jan and Annie her 2 best friends, she is still mourning the break up from her childhood sweetheart - Josh. Her life is not going well .... then she finds out she is pregnant - a sex with the ex night. She goes into denial, she's not pregnant, it will go away, she can't tell Josh, she can't tell her mother. She loses her job thanks to her horrible boss and the fact she was late a couple of times due to morning sickness.
Jen and Annie decide she is going to do this with their support, Jen goes into research mode and Annie goes into support (well as much as she does)
Ginny gets a new job in a book store, the employers are supportive and she loves it.

I loved this book and loved the story about Ginny's growth as her belly grew and what happens after the baby is born.

A book with a newborn baby is always cute!
This was a free ebook, and one of the best freebies I've read.
The story is quick, and fast. An easy, enjoyable read.

Only draw back. In books it often, off the top of my head I think of Something Blue by Emily Giffin but I'm sure there are many ther, happens that perfect bachelors sit around waiting to fall in love with the pregnant girl. I don't know, it's too unrealistic even for a book. I don't see guys falling for pregnant-with-another-guy's-kid women. Also this bachelor had a major personality disorder at one point.

I really enjoyed this book. At first, I wasn't really a fan of Ginny. I thought she was selfish and a bit too immature. Then again, she was supposed to be so she could grow throughout the story. In the end, I loved all three girls and the way they related to each other. As soon as I finished I had to buy the second book. I just had to know what happened next!

So I decided to re-read this series since I wanted some romance reads and wow, I do not think this series holds up at all. I am realizing the main character in this one was the height of being selfish. Other than that though, the ending didn't make a lot of sense since I for one didn't see that Ginny had really changed. I think if the book had focused more on Ginny and her two best friends who help raise her baby (Anne and Jen) would have worked better. Instead we just have Ginny obsessing over the end of her relationship with her boyfriend Josh and you end up not rooting for her when you find out what really happened.

Ginny has just graduated college and is adrift right now. She and her long-term boyfriend broke up after she did something unforgivable (guess). She misses him and doesn't want things to be over. Instead of trying to focus on her and a career, she stays as a nanny and obsesses over Josh. When she finds out she is pregnant, there is a lot of Ginny ignoring the situation (which got old) and her being upset she has gained weight and isn't as hot as she used to be (that also got old).

I have to say that re-reading this series, I found Ginny to be my least favorite of the girls. She is selfish and I didn't see a lot of her stepping up to help out her friends besides telling them what clothes to wear. If anything Anne and Jen give up a lot to help her out and even let her float on paying rent when they find out she's pregnant.

Ginny has a love interest in this book that actually seemed okay but then Schurig has him have a total personality transplant and turns him into an ass (I saw some shades of Danny in the Mindy Project handwaving happening). It just seems a long way to set things up so that Ginny could try again with Josh (who wasn't written very well at all).

The writing at times felt stilted. I don't think that Ginny was that interesting. The flow wasn't great either. We know time passes, but there are a lot of Schruig telling you about something instead of just showing you throughout the story. it's almost as if she's afraid to let her characters talk to each other.

I do love that this book take place in Michigan, near Detroit. I don't think I have read that many contemporary romances taking place in this state or in that city. So that was a welcome change.

The ending is typical HEA, it just felt tacked on though.

What an adorable book! I'm not even a baby person but I was getting all excited about the baby, too :)

Ginny knew in college that she was going to marry her boyfriend, Josh, they were going to live in Michigan, and they were going to have kids. Unfortunately, life sometimes doesn't work out the way you plan, as Ginny finds out when Josh breaks up with her and moves to Seattle, leaving her alone and brokenhearted. It was a bad breakup with a lot of regret, and right before Josh left, he and Ginny spent a drunken night together. A few months late, Ginny realizes she expecting.

Ginny has two roommates who also happen to be her best friends. Annie and Jen are determined to help Ginny with her pregnancy and the baby, helping her pick out cribs, reading baby books, even helping her find a new job. And in the process, Ginny grows out of her needy, low-self-esteem college self and into a more mature, established adult.

I really enjoyed reading the book - the writing is great, you just love Ginny even with her repressed self-esteem issues, and her friends are hilarious, I laughed out loud several times at their comments. And as stated above, not being much of a baby person, I didn't really expect to like this book...but what I really liked about it was the author didn't make this a perfect reality, it was realistic, and Ginny has to work through things, and her baby cries a lot, and she is never really sure she is doing the right thing. I like to read books that you feel are real and can encourage you and this was one of those books. Kudos to the author and look forward to reading more from her!

Three Girls and a Baby was my first Rachel Schurig book and I was majorly impressed! So impressed that I went on amazon halfway through finishing the book and purchased the last two books in the series (I already have book #2 on my shelf ready to read). I enjoyed Schurig's writing style; the novel was an easy read and light-hearted without being predictable and overly cheesy.

Ginny found out she was pregnant with her ex-boyfriend's baby after they spent a fluke night together months after the breakup. Without giving too much away, she was forced to deal with the pregnancy without her ex, Josh, but had the help of her two best friends and house-mates, Annie and Jen. I found all three girls to be funny, relatable and likable. Annie was an amateur actress with a big personality, while Jen was more warm and responsible. Their differences played out well in the novel and worked to each of their advantage. I really enjoyed seeing Ginny change throughout the book. It was a coming of age novel for adults because as we know, kids make people re-evaluate their lives; that's exactly what happened to Ginny. I'd highly recommend this book if you're looking for a funny yet serious chick lit book that is real, rather than sugar-coated. I'm definitely going to look into Rachel Schurig's other novels.

Nice little story... well written, well paced...
I didn't like the part with the perfect bachelor that is too perfect! I feel I've read it too many times... also the perfect men-too perfect-always seem to fall in love with expecting mothers in books... not very realistic, don't know, it bugs me.

I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. I really like Rachel’s writing style, I find her storytelling fun, easy to follow but also compelling with a few added twists throughout the book.

I enjoyed this from start to finish, following Ginny on her road to self discovery and independence as she starts a new journey through motherhood. With a little help from her two best friends, Ginny rebuilds her life without Josh, creating a new version of herself that she loves and respects more than before.

I loved the friendship circle in this story, Annie and Jen are likeable, relatable and often had me giggling. They are exactly what every girl needs, someone who sticks with you through everything, supports you but also tells you when you’re being an idiot!

If you fancy a light hearted, fun read than I totally recommend this wonderful book.
‘Three Girls and a Baby’ is also part of a series and I cannot wait to read what happens next for Ginny!

It started off a bit slow but eventually became interesting in a "I couldn't put it down" kinda way.
TBH I was please about one story line not ending the way I thought it would, thus making it unpredictable, but guessed another storyline's "twist" before it was revealed, but even though I guessed the twist, I still enjoyed the book overall.

I really enjoyed this book. Three best friends was living together. Jen was more of the mother figure. Annie was into Drama, and theater, and then there was Ginny. It was Ginny who got pregnant, and Annie, and Jen was there every step of the way. The three had me laughing throughout the story. I think everyone needs a friendship like the one they shared. The three went shopping for maternity clothes. Annie, and Jen would try on the ugliest outfit they could find, while Ginny tried on cute clothes. The three laughed so hard. The shared moments like that throughout the book. They laughed together, and cried together, and supported one another. I didn't think I would like the book when I first started reading it. When Ginny first found out she was pregnant she was concerned about having to cut out her shoe budget. She loved shoes. What girl doesn't? It was amazing to see how much she grew up throughout her pregnancy.

sample from chapter 9 - "You're like my sister," Jen continued. "You're family, Ginny. And so is this baby. So I have every intention of doing what I can to help you and the baby get through the rough patches. And there's not much you can do about it. You have to take help from family, right?" "My family's never been much in the helping line," I muttered. "Well, we're your family now," Jen said firmly. "And this is how things are going to go in our family. Deal with it."

Review first published on my blog: http://memoriesfrombooks.blogspot.com...

Three Girls and a Baby is the story of Ginny, who finds herself recovering from a broken relationship and pregnant. The book covers the year from finding out she is pregnant to when the baby is a few months old. It deals with her emotions and the support (or lack of support) from those around her especially her friends and roommates Jen and Annie. In bits and pieces, the book tells about her relationship and how she got to this point in her life.

The book deals with serious topics in a very light hearted manner. Can you be successful in a relationship without being happy with yourself? What are the problems when you make someone else responsible for your happiness? What are some of the challenges of being a single mother? What will people do in the name of love? How far can the bonds of friendship extend? How does having a child change you as a person and your entire life? Sometimes, the treatment of the topics seems a bit too light hearted, but perhaps that goes with the young age of the characters.

The book follows a somewhat predictable story line, but makes for a quick, easy read.

I bought this ebook from the Kindle store on a whim back in January, thinking I would read it. I almost didn't, as I usually use my Kindle for the electronics feature (ie: Facebook, Netflix, applications, etc.)

With my headphone port not working correctly on my laptop (and my being aggravated with it, mind you), I sat down and started reading, and boy, am I glad I did.

Rachel Schurig's "Three Girls and a Baby" was a pleasure to read. I like reading any books with pregnancies and/or premises of lost loves getting back together.

This book just goes to show that the most unexpected accident can be the best thing to ever happen to you. From the time I started reading I honestly wasn't sure what Schurig was going to do with Ginny and Josh's complicated relationship. I somewhat had thought that she would have a lasting relationship with Luke but I'm glad that Luke showed his true colors and Ginny realized that she wasn't in love with him, and that, at the end, it was Josh whom she still loved and wanted.

I am really glad that Schurig had Ginny and Josh reconnect and get back together, finally being the family that they dreamed about so long ago.

I cannot wait to read Annie and Jen's own love stories. I just wish the next 2 books were free in the kindle store. :-(

I absolutely loved this book! At first I wasn't to sure if I wanted to carry on as the main character Ginny seemed like she felt sorry for herself and just looked on the bad side all the time which really irritated me. I more love books with strong independent women. But as the book progressed Ginny started to become stronger, more independent and didn't need the constant love and attention of a man with the help of her 2 best friends Annie and Jen. The story line was amazing.. following Ginny on her journey through her very unplanned pregnancy with real life problems and experiences that occur through pregnancy! Although through the book she is constantly going on about her ex-boyfriend Josh we have all been through the horrible break up which is hard to get over. This book is fantastic for anyone and everyone. Not being a parent myself I loved this book giving you a realistic and down to earth look on pregnancy and the start of parenthood. I really appreciate and have a better understanding of what my mom has been through now and will 100% think twice when I see a baby and think "aww I can't wait to be a mom" I cannot wait to read the next three books in the series

A good debut novel; I would have been proud of myself if I wrote this. Just a few errors in spelling and grammar here and there (Kindle edition).

The story is typical chick-lit, plus plus. It is light reading, but definitely not shallow. A lot can be picked up on relationships with friends and family; and love, more importantly for one's self. Good stuff for people who are trying to "find their place"; and the quotes from Dr. Carr are useful for those who are expecting.

Most of us will remember the 80s movie Three Men and a Baby. In that movie, a baby fathered by one of the men unexpectedly arrived at their doorstep. Here in this book, one of the girls got pregnant. There was no mention, but I wonder if the author got her inspiration for the title from the movie.

This is a lovely book and one you can curl up with and read with a bar of chocolate and a mug of tea!

It was a kindle freebie and took me a while to finish just because it takes me much longer to read on a screen.

I would definitely recommend this book. A real feel good story about 3 best friends, their lives and their relationships.

Plus, any book with a baby in is always a winner for me! So cute!! :)

I really liked this book, a nice easy read which doesn't involve any thinking.

It was good to watch Ginny grow as a person during her pregnancy and great the way her friends were there for her through it all.

I liked it so much that I downloaded Three Girls and A Wedding straight away.

This is one of the most frivolous, predictable books I've read in a while. I was going to only give it one star and not bother finishing it, but then I decided it was mildly entertaining and fit the bill for an easy read while I was exhausted from our move, so hence the second star.

Kind of ambivalent about this book. Not awful, not great. Very much about the friend-love, but I never felt I knew any of the other characters well. I also just wasn't crazy about the main character, who was whiny and self-involved.

I felt like I was reading an episode of 16 and pregnant. Yet the main character is a college graduate with a English lit degree. She is so self absorbed most of the book. Blah!
