Ruthless. Arrogant. Ice cold.

Everyone warned me that the CFO of McCord Media was a nightmare to work for. I knew it going in, but I figured I could keep my head down and stay under Cole McCord’s radar.

I figured wrong.

Because a month before I started as his assistant, Mr. Ruthless and I spent one scorching hot night together in bed.

In my defense, I had no idea that the gorgeous stranger I hooked up with at my girlfriend’s birthday party would turn out to be my new boss. But company policy forbids work relationships, so it’s strictly business from now on.

If only we could stop falling into bed together.
If only he didn’t make me feel things I’ve never felt before.
If only he wasn’t keeping a secret that could destroy us both.

If it weren’t for the fact that I had nothing else to read on the train, I probably would’ve DNFed it. I made it to the end, but this book felt completely different from all the others I’ve read by this author so far. I usually enjoy J.T. Geissinger’s stories because they’re so unserious they end up being funny, but I couldn’t connect with the characters or this story at all. This book was literally one of my most anticipated reads of the month, but unfortunately I ended up hating it. The blurb and the tropes seemed intriguing, but the execution? It was a mess.

Let's get to the point though—why didn't this book work out for me. The spoilers also start here!!

I read books by this author mainly for one reason: obsessed heroes who would move the Earth to be with the heroine. Not the other way around, because let’s be honest, a heroine practically begging the hero to be with her and take her to bed isn’t something I think most people want to read about.

“Don’t make me beg. This is embarrassing.”

Yeah, it is embarrassing. You should never beg a man. There will always be another, better one who will do anything for you. So why bother? Our heroine, Shay, did just that—more than once. So if you thought this book would deliver on the “hero obsessed” trope, you were wrong. And it’s not that I’m against the heroine putting in a little more effort for a relationship—though, honestly, it’s best when both parties put equal effort—but if her more efforts drag on until literally the end of the book, I just can’t get behind it. It’s not for me.

Moving on to the romance—I felt no connection between Shay and Cole. Their first meeting in a bar was so awkward and embarrassing that I honestly wondered who thought it was a good idea to publish it.

“Hello. I don’t want to be here.” He looks me up and down, his gaze traveling slowly over my figure. After a beat, he says in an unfriendly tone, “Yet here you are.”

I’m sorry but, what? If a girl came up to me and said that, I wouldn’t even answer her—I’d just leave without saying a word because why waste my time on someone like that?

“Wow, you’re really impressive! This is the best night of my life!”

Who talks like that?

"I dip my fingers into the small pot of melted butter,"

I made the terrible mistake of continuing after Cole, instead of using lube like a normal person would on a planned date, used butter. Yeah, butter.

Don’t even get me started on the last chapters. In the last three pages, it seemed like Cole wanted nothing to do with her—he literally refused her calls for months—and then, out of nowhere, he suddenly showed up and wanted her? Fast forward three months to the epilogue, and he’s asking her to marry him. Gotta love those rushed endings.

Let’s move to our hero, Cole McCord—a billionaire CEO with a secret who, instead of being a sexy mature man, acted like a teenager throwing tantrums over nothing. He slammed doors in people's faces, growled instead of answering, and generally behaved like a person who shouldn't be managing the company and the people working there. SERIOUSLY.

“Um. It’s about, um, the opening for your assistant? She says she found someone perfect.”
Perfect? Sure. I almost laugh out loud. But as that’s not something I do, I growl instead.
The receptionist whispers, “I’ll take a message, sir,”

Some innocent woman asks you something and you growl at her? Are you okay?

But those aren't even my main problems with him. The worst part was that he was in love with some woman at the beginning of the book, and kept rejecting Shay literally throughout the entire story even though he wanted to "possess" her. He was supposed to be madly obsessed with her, but he still didn’t want to be with her? He stalked her, bought her expensive things and broke the rules for her, but still didn't want the "boyfriend title"? It didn't make sense to me. He was rich, powerful, had important people in his grasp and could do literally anything. His reasoning for not wanting to be with her honestly didn't make sense to me. He killed terrible people, so what? This author's heroes did worst things, and yet they worshiped their women and were willing to do anything for them. Cole’s brother Callum, could never. You know that saying, 'If he wanted to, he would'? Yeah, Cole couldn't be further from that. The things he was saying to her, especially at the end made me want to punch him in the face.

“I can’t let it go because I love you.”
His voice turns bitter. “You loved Chet too. Look what that got you.” My heart is breaking. It’s splitting in half. It’s tearing itself into pieces."

"It’s over. You’re nothing to me anymore."

Bitch what?? Shay wanted to do everything for you and you act like that towards her?

“He said to tell Shay to leave and not come back. He said he only wants to speak to Kiyoko. And he said…” He pauses to shake his head and sigh. “I’m sorry, luv, but he said to tell you it’s over.”

And then he wants to talk to his ex instead of you? Leave his stupid ass girl. Just like you should have done in the beginning.

As you can see, it was a huge disappointment for me. I wish I could love it as much as I thought I would, but this book was nothing like this author's previous books. At least the ones I've read from her. The third book will probably be about the youngest McCord brother, who I surprisingly liked here, so I want to give it a try. Let’s hope I won’t be disappointed with it as I was here.

I love JT’s books… I’ve read so many of hers that I buy after borrowing from KU, so when a new one comes out, I’m ready, about-to-call-off-work type of ready, and ready to spend my money on this lol. But I was left with ambivalent feelings when I got to the end 😭. And I’m soooo sad 😭.

Up until 80%, I was sure it was gonna be a 5 star read. At 85%, I’m looking at how much I have left, and I’m feeling sad, because I don’t want it to end…

And then 90% hit, and I was gasping at the twist.

And when 97% hit, I was side-eyeing at how fast it was ending 😐 and not in a good way ☹️.

Shay (30ish) just got out of a cheating-relationship; her personal trainer ex was cheating on her. She’s out, enjoying her time with her friends, when her best friend Chelsea tells her she needs to get over her ex by getting under another man, and the one sitting alone at the bar is the perfect one to pursue 👀. Because it’s Chelsea’s bday, Shay HAS to oblige, and she does…

Cole (mid 30s? Maybe lol) likes to be alone. Like the Grinch, he’s a grouch, and just like the Grinch, he suffers from solitude. He notices Shay and thinks she’s different- there’s something about her that attracts him to her. So when she approaches him, the tension begins 👀. Their banter/conversation is easy, so easy that Shay suggests they get a hotel room…

And, after much convincing, Cole agrees. They don’t even share last names…

And then we get some of the fastest 🔥 I’ve ever read in a book 😅 especially one by JT 👏🏻.

It’s an amazing ONS full of passion and diiiiiirtiness, and then it all ends.

Until a month ish later, Cole goes to meet his new CFO assistant and discovers that it’s Shay, the one from his ONS… and he’s NOT happy 😬.

What I liked/loved: possible spoilers
—the banter 😮‍💨. As usual, JT does some of the best banter out there. I was 🤣 so much. This one felt edgier, angstier, and I was fiiiine with that. This had the tone of a grumpy/sunshine type of book, which made the banter even better 👏🏻

—how OBSESSED Cole is 😈. Eat crow Cole, because you’re OBSESSED 😮‍💨

—the 🔥. Talk about fast burn 😅. By 13%, we see how 💥 their chemistry is, in the sheets 😉. LAWD. These two are 😮‍💨 in the 🔥 department. They just cannot NOT do it 🥵. I love how much he loves to pl3as3 her 💦. And his alphaness! 😮‍💨. He loves to give direction 👏🏻. And his ability? Gawd… I mean… on his FREAKING TOES 🫠. LAWD. Have mercy on my V soul 🥵. The way he just picks her up because he’s so strong was DELICIOUS 🤤

—diiiiiirty talk 🔥. Ufffff 😮‍💨 so so good 💦. I love me a confident man, and Cole is confident 💁🏻‍♀️. Love me a diiiiirty talking man 🤤

—how connected they are ❤️. Both just went through a breakup, so when she gets emotional, he just hugs/holds her 🫶. I loved this (but ima comment on the ow ex down below 😑)
And your man didn’t dump you. He freed you. He did you a favor. Take all that energy back that you’re wasting mourning the relationship and focus it on yourself. A queen doesn’t need the love of the village idiot.

“That’s being generous. Because any man who’d let a woman like you go is nothing but a little bitch.”

“There’s no such thing as too needy. The wrong person will never be able to meet your needs. Stop giving people grace who make you feel like you’re the problem. And stop holding on to who he pretended to be. He lied.”

“Men don’t abandon women they love. They abandon women they were using.”

—he calls her sweetheart and baby 🥹

—the vigilante stuff ❤️. Sigh. I wish men like Cole really existed 😭

—the push/pull 😅. I actually don’t mind it in books, as long as we DONT get surprises (I’ll comment below), but normally, I enjoy when the H is reluctant and then can’t help himself, and that’s what happened throughout most of the book; Cole tries pushing her away, but he regrets it like 5 seconds later, and when he goes after her, it’s 🫠🔥💥😮‍💨

—the ansgt 😅. Ohhh… this is probably one of the angstiest JT books I’ve ever read 😬. What Cole suffers through is no joke.

—Cole saving Shay 😭. I’m so glad he was “watching” her

—the 😭 moments. I cried a couple of times. When Chelsea tells Cole about her sister, I had to put the book down ☹️ and don’t get me started on the child 😭

—JT’s shameless plug-in to her other books 🤣. I loved that Emery (book 1 h) recommends erotic thrillers, mafia books, etc… the books JT’s written 🤣. I was dying 🤣

—KILLIAN!!!! I love that this man is EVERYWHERE 👀. I mean. We got to see Callum and Emery (book 1 MCs), but whenever Killian appears, I’m over the moon 👏🏻

—how stubborn Shay is 😅. Sometimes this irritated me, but for the most part, I liked this character trait… but I’ll comment down below on this too

—OMD 😈. I will never not want this in my books 🤣. I love me the jealous moments

—justice being served 💅. I love me some good comeuppance 💁🏻‍♀️

—the popular books references 🤣
”Christian Grey has multiple personality disorders caused by intense childhood trauma. Edward Cullen is a controlling stalker who wants to kill Bella by drinking her blood. Mr. Darcy is an arrogant prick with crippling social anxiety and prejudice against the lower class. Yet all these flawed characters have inspired millions of women to think that broken men are somehow ideal, or could be, if only the right woman loved them.”

What I didn’t love/wanted more of: SPOILERS
—the OWD 😐. I HATE that the ow will forever be in the MCs lives 😐. I dislike that she’s not a bad person and that Cole will always love her (and the Ow will always love him). See, here’s the thing, this needed to be addressed/resolved better FOR ME. Because the ow (Kiyoko) has been in Cole’s life for 16 years, 5 of which they were in a COMMITTED RELATIONSHIP, I wish she wasn’t a part of his life… even his “secret” vigilante one 😐. Because of what Kiyoko suffered, Cole decided to dole out justice, which is fine, but when the ow comes back at over 90% and is with Cole during the worst time of his life, I’m gonna need it to be resolved in MANY pages, not just “go home” and that’s that. And the fact that early versions of the book had the ow living with Cole AND had Cole yelling/lying to Shay’s about being back with Kiyoko doesn’t sit well with me 😐. I’m SOOOO glad JT deleted those lines- because my stomach would’ve been suffering…

—pushing Shay away 😐. Like I mentioned above, I’m fine with push/pull, but DONT tell me you can’t do relationships and then reveal you were with your ex for 5 years 🤨. That sounds like a commitment to me 🤷🏻‍♀️ unless “commitment” means something else 🤔

—Shay doing the pursuing 😐. Don’t get me wrong. I like that she’s strong-willed, persistent, and stubborn. What I don’t like is that she keeps being the pursuer, and that even in the end, she’s basically just waiting for Cole to change his mind 😐. I just wanted him to grovel 😭

—having the Ow supporting Cole versus Shay 😐. This is self-explanatory. I know Kiyoko isn’t a bad person, but I was upset that he had his ex with him instead of Shay. I’m glad Shay is a bigger person than me, because I would’ve been super jealous if I were her 😅😬

—what DOES Cole feel for Shay compared to Kiyoko. When they first meet (before the ONS), this is what he tells Shay
I lower my voice. “And so you broke it off?” “Yes.” “But you didn’t want to.” “No.” “You were still in love with her when you ended it?” He nods. Then he opens his eyes and looks at me with such naked longing, I’m momentarily speechless.

Which is fine, as long as I KNOW what he feels for Kiyoko PALES in comparison to what he feels for Shay- they’re both allowed to have pasts, but I needed to know that what he feels for Shay supersedes anything he’s ever felt before. It’s implied. I mean. He’s COMPLETELY and UTTERLY OBSESSED with Shay. His every-waking-moment is all about Shay, but, I needed to KNOW that she’s different and Shay is his everything, because he has history with Kiyoko, 16 years worth, and 5 of them were in a relationship, which means, sex, connections, etc. Sigh. I’m trying NOT to be sensitive, but… I needed more here. More resolution with this. Or maybe, not have Kiyoko as a part of their lives anymore 😬😅. In the epilogue, Shay’s sad Kiyoko won’t come to thanksgiving 😐. I’m sorry. I would be ecstatic if my hubby’s ex isn’t coming around 🤷🏻‍♀️ one my hubby was intimate with and shares a lot of his secret life with. Sigh 😐 but that’s just me 😬

—no grovel 😐. I’m a grovel girl. I luuuurve them, look for them, and want them… so when Cole pushes Shay away EVEN MORE than he already had BEFORE the “twist”, I expected her to give him a hard time, for once 😐. I get it. He was suffering a lot, what no one should EVER experience, but his choices had them separate even more, especially in his time of need. Not to mention that he has his ex help support him in his recovery 😐. Sigh. It ends WAAAY too quickly for my tastes 😭

Overall, I enjoyed so much, but I hated how fast the ending happened. Having a twist at 90% is NOT enough time to have a thorough resolution, no matter how much time has passed 😐.

📚 𝐅𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔 📚 Is the second full length romance book within the (Morally Gray) series by author J.T. Geissinger. Spoken in dual perspectives. Coleton (Cole) McCord & Shayna (Shay) Sanders

His employees call him the Grinch, She calls him Mr. Dark and Stormy.

When a book by this author lands on your kindle, you ditch adulting for the day, and that's exactly what I did, turned off the phone, all distractions banished for the day and I inhaled this like my last breath depended on it. This authors witty dialogue gets me everytime, I giggled wholeheartedly, swooned uncontrollably, and loved these two fully.

377261405-749370993867502-4211661077673135229-n

In the previous book we met Callum McCord, now it's his younger brother Cole McCords story, and like his brother these men struggle to be claimed, get ready for the push and pull, get ready for the angst, get ready to fall at Cole's feet, and last but not least get ready to meet Cole's match. She slays him with her sass, with her take no sh#t attitude.

These two first meet in a swanky bar in Beverly Hills where she's celebrating her best friends birthday, both are down in the dumps after subsequent break ups, she's pushed by her friends to go and talk to the lone man sitting behind them for at least 10 minutes. One glance at Mr dark and Stormy and she knew he was trouble. One thing leads to another and they share an unforgettable one night stand.

But that's not the last time you'll see these two together, she's just landed a once in a million job offer to work alongside a tyrant of a boss who goes through asistances faster than he changes his undies.

This author always has me eating out of the palm of her hand, the only negative I have with this book is that I felt like it ended abruptly, but that could just come down to me wanting more of these two.

Fall Into You is book two in the Morally Gray series by J.T. Geissinger. Once again, this author has blown my mind. In the first book in the series, we met Callum McCord. Now, it’s his younger brother, Cole’s turn. Brace yourselves everyone, because you are going to love Cole.

Coleton “Cole” McCord is the CFO at McCord Media. At work, Cole is known as the Grinch! His moods are always dark, he’s difficult to work for and has no patience. Cole also has secrets. Secrets that make him believe that he can never allow himself to fall in love. He can never share his life with anyone. Then “she” walked up to his table at the bar where he was sitting, brooding, and shined her bright shiny light right into his heart and soul.

Shayna “Shay” Sanders had recently been dumped and had been brooding over it for weeks. Then, while out with her friends for her bestie’s birthday, they goad her into approaching a very good lucking but equally terrifying man sitting alone at his table. It doesn’t take long for these two to hit it off, the chemistry is flying. Which all leads to the night of their lives. Now, one month later, Shay has gotten a new and better job that she was so excited to start. Until she walked into her new boss’s office and laid her eyes on the one man she never thought she’d see again.

Let me just say that these two together were like the Fourth of July fireworks. The chemistry was unreal, the banter was hilarious, and the swoon factor was over the moon. But Cole is adamant that he is not relationship material. That he can never be what Shay needs or deserves. But Shay has other ideas and she’s not going to let a few dark secrets stand in the way of getting her man.

I don’t know how J.T. does it time and time again, makes me fall so in love with her characters. I had so much fun watching these two fall. Cole put up a fight but he didn’t have a chance against Shay. This book is told in dual points of view which I adored. It was so great to be in Cole’s head. So, buckle up, everyone, and prepare for a wonderful ride. I loved these two and can’t wait for you to fall in love with them too.

1 star 🚩

the hero was a walking ick

the hero is a billionaire CEO that saves DV survivors by murdering their abusers but he also does this—

...“Fire!”
He jerks and leaps up, then stands naked at the side of the bed, wild-eyed and bristling, his hands in a karate-chop pose I’ve only ever seen characters in bad television dramas do.
“What’s wrong? What’s happening?” He looks around the room as if he’s expecting the walls to start churning out ninjas, then hollers to no one, “I’ll kill you with my bare hands!”

it was the way the heroine was blind to every one of his red flags just because he acknowledged she was blind to every one of his red flags—

“I can’t decide if that’s a red flag or just a genuinely nice thing to say.”
“It’s a red flag.”
“I’d like to think it’s partly both.”
“It’s not. I just threatened violence on a stranger and meant it.”
“I know, but you did it from a protective instinct. It’s almost chivalrous.”

something about this is so off-putting. the heroine is definitely the character in horror movies that runs into the basement when she’s being chased by a serial killer.

the hero steals the heroine’s panties and then says this—

“I took a pair of your panties out of your laundry basket.”
Heat creeps into my cheeks. “Ah. How very psychotic of you. Do you always steal dirty laundry on a first date?”
“Never. But I want to be able to smell you when you’re not near me. I’ll keep them in my desk drawer at the office. And this isn’t our first date.” His smirk deepens. “On our first date, I fucked you all night long, princess.”

at work, he wore her panties as a pocket square

the smut was quite possibly the cringiest smut i’ve ever read. in what universe is it cute when the MCs are giggling and making jokes while trying to fuck each other

“Wow, you’re really impressive! This is the best night of my life!”

I JUST GOT GOOSEBUMPS FROM THE SECOND HAND EMBARRASSMENT OHMYGOD

not to mention the amount of whiplash the hero gave both me and the heroine with his “i want you” “i don’t want you” attitude. tell me why he gets into a car accident, becomes paralyzed, tells the heroine he’s done with her and proceeds to move his ex-girlfriend into his house and tells the heroine to leave him alone because he’s now dating his ex. then they randomly get back together in the last couple pages because he finally woke up 🤨

LIKE IT WHAT UNIVERSE DOES THAT POSSIBLY MAKE ANY SENSE??? THE HERO WOULD TELL THE HEROINE TO FUCK OFF—

He growls in frustration. Yanking up my skirt, he spanks my ass several times in quick succession. The blows are sharp and stinging. Then he pulls my skirt down, hauls me off the desk, and leads me to the door with his hand around my upper arm.
He pulls the door open. He pushes me through it. I spin around and gape at him, my face hot, my pussy wet, my ass burning.
Without another word, he shuts the door in my face.

THEN HE CORNERS HER IN A STAIRWELL NOT EVEN 5 MINUTES LATER TO FUCK HER 🧍🏻‍♀️

“You’re gonna be quiet, baby. You’re gonna be a good girl and take my dick right here in this stairwell, and when you come, you’re not gonna make a fucking sound. Understood?”

being self-aware that they’re a piece of shit doesn’t excuse you from treating the heroine like shit. the heroine was also stupid and chased after him with such desperation that it was nearly impossible to read. HOW MANY TIMES CAN SOMEONE REJECT YOU BEFORE YOU GAIN SOME SELF-RESPECT AND STOP

4 A Crisis of Conscience Stars ⭐

Two emotionally unavailable people and a dare that changes everything. Shay was out for drinks when she catches the eye of a stranger. Except 5 minutes in his company and she doesn't know if Cole McCord wants to strangle her or feck her.

"You’ll find Mr. Right eventually. In the meantime, let’s find you Mr. Well Endowed so you can let off some steam."

Shay was a spectacular woman. She may have kissed a few toads in the past but it didn't hinder her self worth. So she goes for it with Cole even though it's clear there's no future for them. It's a one night stand with stellar memories.

“We can’t have a relationship, Shay.”
“You just admitted you’re obsessed with me. Personally, I think that’s a fantastic baseline to start a relationship with.”

It should have been the end until they find themselves working together and Cole is pissed. But is he really? Because these two are igniting every time in each other's presence. But we all know that Cole isn't exactly who he seems. He may push her away, but Shay is strong enough to insist for both of them.

I have always enjoyed this author's kickass heroines and the anti heroes who aren't immune. I snorted at the authors shameless plugging of her own books in one of the scenes and seriously hot bedroom action. BUT I struggled with some of the exaggerated reactions / humor / dirty talk. It felt forced and cringey in parts. Other than that I lapped it up!

2 🤔🙄⭐️s

Shay frustrated me a lot, yet there were moments I felt sorry for her...
The only thing she did throughout this story was to chase Cole for either a relationship or a situationship!!!
Of course Cole was hard to get and closed off but later he did a 180 and became garrulous and affectionate!!! Pleaseeeeee!!!! 🙄

“Do you understand now why I said I don’t have relationships? Why I don’t let people get close?” Cole
Excuse me??? He was in a relationship for 5 years and let’s not forget that when he encountered Shay he confirmed he was still in love with the other woman when he ended it! 🙄
Shilly shally much??…

Overall, their ….ship was based on lust, chemistry and sex. Depth was absent.

The last act landed like an alien! It was inapposite, jarring and rushed. And if that was not enough, his ex showed up and stayed at his house while he was in the hospital!
Cole was such a coward, he used his ex as to push Shay away.
Where was his grovel afterwards???? 😱😱😤
I expected for an epic one but unfortunately it never occurred… 🤦🏻‍♀️

Moreover, for me, his vigilante side was a filler as to impress the readers, because later this side of his disappeared and was never explored or mentioned again...

❗️10/1/23 Updated review: I actually had to borrow my friend's phone to read on her kindle app since I could not get the republished version which is VERY concerning to readers who have the version that was previously published.
Um...yeah I still want my money back. Still a 1/5 🌟.

Changes from chapter 57 onward:

🚨Kiyoko is NOT living with Cole but its implied she is staying with him during rehabilitation treatment but perhaps that's because she lives internationally but nothing romantic with them at all!! In the republished version Kiyoko (ex) does NOT replace Shay and her and Cole don't get back together. In honestly it is a lot better but still unnecessary to have his ex tend to his rehabilitation when there is Willa (?) his rehabilitation specialist.

🚨ONE month passes before the text exchange happens between Shay and Cole and JTG removed the whole "IT’S OVER. I’M WITH KIYOKO NOW." and “I won’t answer if you call again, Shay. I won’t see you. Forget about me. Go live your life. It’s over. You’re nothing to me anymore.” text messages and phone call.
It's just GONE. The new text thread and phone call aren't much better but are not unnecessarily cruel.

🚨Kiyoko (ex-gf) does say that she believes that Cole is making a huge mistake with Shay by pushing her away which firmly removes her from the previous characterization as the woman who comes between Cole and Shay so that is 👍🏽

🚨Oh hi Killian. Good ole Irish intervention to push Shay to girlboss her way into taking Cole's position.

🚨Shay does in fact girlboss her way into VP of McCord Media. How very SLAY OF YOU SHAY. 💅🏾

🚨There is still NO GROVEL from Cole when he ambushes Shay at the hotel bar.

I'm still firm on my rating for this book. I tried really hard, REALLY HARD to be fair with this review but having an author who tries to imbue her writing with feminist ideals or supposedly strong heroines only for them to be the SOLE ones bearing the judgement, humiliation, and pain of the heroes actions to this degree is entirely UNACCEPTABLE to me.

Trauma being written as the UNIMPEACHABLE free pass for heroes to come back after breaking the heroine's heart and causing her pain & humiliation is at its core MISOGYNISTIC especially if she is NOT the architect of the trauma that the hero has faced.

Cole is GROWN ASS MAN. Shay was not responsible for the pain or humiliation of his injuries. Sometimes shit happens but men are always written as the one pushing women away when something grave like this happens and never stick around. It's sad and lazy writing for JTG to push the status quo of women needlessly suffering even in fiction especially when the reality of the world reflects this already.

This is a trope I simply cannot forgive. It's far too common for the women written in fiction to bear the pain that heroes unleash on them simply for it to be excused for the age old reason of "he's damaged" or "he has trauma". Trauma any one person endures is NO excuse for you to treat someone like an object to be discarded once they have finished serving their use to you.

If Cole was too ashamed in his "manhood" to continue to be with Shay there are a number of ways to have re-written that conflict and the resolution. As it is, JTG may not be the author that she once was if this type resolution she republishes as romance.

Happy reading to you and good luck to those who are trying to figure out which version you received from Amazon! If you enjoyed FIY, honestly good for you. I have enjoyed a lot of the reviews on FIY and a lot of them made me heeheehaha all over the place when the world has been a not so heeheehaha kind of place lately.
Thank you to Sonia and Callie for providing me with the necessary information/ quotes!!! I thought I was getting gaslit about this mythical "updated version" since I still don't have it in my possession but thank god my friend has an amazon account I used to repurchase it. I'm still concerned that it came to that since I still have the original released version.
Still a 1/5 🌟

This one can suck my dick actually.
Remember when Tru said "I don't chase after men, it's undignified." in Beautifully Cruel?

Yeah, it's still undignified.
Bring back self respect.

Cole was super annoying with his hot and cold bullshit. The plot was also ALL OVER THE FUCKING PLACE.

And for someone who quotes the DS5 on narcissistic personality disorder as a justification as to why Shay should expect better from men, Cole certainly doesn't have a problem abusing her trust and love in him with those same narcissistic devalue and discard tactics they are famous for.
The bread crumbing and ignoring tactic was super cheap and manipulative.

Shay was also too clingy and pathetic for chasing after a man who breaks your heart and tells his friend to tell you he replaced you with his ex and that she's now living with him.

Also the "put your hand in my pocket" was very Kazimir and Nat. I'm glad we've reached the recycling things from other books portion of the JT universe/timeline. 😬👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I miss the person I was before I read this hot garbage and sacrificed my sleep to read this before work. 😐

0/5🌟I'm envious of all the people that haven't read this book. I might need EMDR to try and erase this one actually. Also I don't understand why Cole is in this universe? I get that by default he gets included since he's related to Callum but he's not very morally gray. He just seems like a fuckboy who gets off on seeing how desperate/insecure he can make Shay feel. YIKE.

Approaching a stranger to get her bestie off her back, Shay finds herself intrigued by the standoffish, yet sweet Cole. When one thing leads to another, they make their way to a room for the best one night stand of their lives.

Despite an undeniable connection, they didn’t exchange full names or numbers. When they come face to face again, it’s in the most unlikely of ways.

I went into this one with some expectations based on Callum. Cole and Callum are very different. If I have to pick a brother, I’m still Team Cal. That said, I enjoyed the push and pull between Shay and Cole. Even when holding himself back, he was clear that it wasn’t because he didn’t want her, it was circumstances. Characters fighting their feelings annoys me and this was not that. And I LOVED how Shay didn’t back down and fought for their happily ever after.

I love the characters and the chemistry between them!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌎
Character development: 🙂🥰😎🤩😀
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Duet Narration ✨Full Cast✨

The heroine: Shay - She is getting over her cheating ex-boyfriend Chet when she goes out with friends to a club, and she makes a deal with her friend Chelsea, that she will go talk to a handsome man in a booth who has been staring at her if her friend stops badmouthing her ex. The man seems dark and broody and not in a good mood, but he hasn’t stopped staring at her all night.

The Hero: Cole - He is getting over a breakup as well when he is sitting in the corner of a bar. He is angry and in a terrible mood. He allows Shay to sit down next to him and they talk for a while. He is both nice and mean to her at the same time. He turns her down when she suggests getting a room in the hotel but in his mind, he is thinking about the dirty things he wants to do with her.

“You act like you think I’m contagious, but you speak like a Hero from a romance novel.”

The Story: Shay and Cole talk more, only to find out that the reason he turned her down was because he didn’t want her to regret her choice in the morning. He can’t believe that any guy would treat her in a way other than as the queen she is. Things start to heat up between them and they end up spending a super steamy night together. I liked the fact that the opening scenes of this book were fully fleshed out and that first night when Shay and Cole met and hooked up wasn’t just glossed over to get to the main plot of the book.

“Your heart isn’t cold.”
“Everyone who knows me would say otherwise.”
“Then everyone who knows you is wrong, Cole. Your heart isn’t cold. It’s warm, and it’s beautiful. You just keep it on ice so nobody can melt it.”

Of course, the main plot of the book is the fact that Shay soon gets a new job as an assistant to a very demanding CFO with a very secretive firm, but with the offer to pay her double what she was making before. She finds out that the hot sexy man she had an illicit night with is her boss and their company has strict rules about relationships in the office. I love this trope, and I love even more that J.T. Geissinger adds a bit of darkness into a trope that is usually bright and sometimes even humorous. Her Hero’s are always terrifically wicked and dominant, and Cole is no different. I think every time I read or listen to a J.T. Geissinger book, I go back to her list and purchase another book she wrote that I haven’t read yet because I end up liking her characters and the steamy goodness so much. I looked back today and saw that I gave five stars to nearly all her books that I have read.

“If I don’t end up tearing all my hair out by the time I leave this office, it will be a F’ing miracle. Also, I really want to kiss her which is problematic on many levels especially as kiss is a euphemism for bend her over the desk, tear off her panties and shove my hard cock inside her and listen to her scream my name when she comes.”

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via full cast duet narration and was narrated by Troy Duran, Jacob Morgan, Connor Crais, Vanessa Moyen and Angelina Rocca. The three male narrators are some of my favorite male narrators, so you just can’t go wrong with these guys. Jacob Morgan did the voice for Cole and did a terrific job. Angelina Rocca did the voice for Shay, and she has a voice that sounds a bit like a woman that is depressed. Which works well for Shay at the start of the book. I liked her voice more as the story went on.

“So what? You’re some kind of billionaire vigilante who punches numbers during the day and fights crime by night?”
“I don’t fight crime, I solve problems.”

I can’t say enough about J.T. Geissinger and the fact that most of her books are done in duet narration and a lot of the newer ones are even full cast like this one. I can’t believe how many very popular writers who sell thousands of books, don’t bother to do more than solo narration. I mean even if the book is written in just one POV, you can do duet narration. I rarely purchase an audiobook with Solo narration, and I search out the books done in duet, so I don’t have to listen to a man voicing women’s parts and vice versa.

Update: The drama in this one makes me MADDDDD. I'm glad that I don't sign up for too many ARCs anymore😭 Also this book traumatised me so bad that I have to touched a J.T. Geissinger book since, despite loving the Q&M series😔

ETA: Lowering my rating to 2.5 stars from 3. Shay should have realised her worth and walked away imo. Nobody deserves to beg for someone's love and respect the way she had to do with Cole. Honestly, this book was kind of shocking for me since this isn't J.T.'s usual style. From the handful of books that I've read by this author, there hasn't been any OW drama and the H has ALWAYS been a goner for the h. The tone of this book started off wrong - with the the H still being hung up over his ex. Not cool, bruh😐

Let me just preface this review by saying that this book is quite different from any of the books I've read by J.T. Geissinger previously (not in a bad way). It definitely has a lot of feels and angst a bit of boy obsessed + he falls first and harder. I liked Shay's character and the way she made me laugh with her sass. I even liked how Cole knew how bad he wanted her and how hard he fell for her in just one night. They really did complement each other really well. What I didn't like though, was the way Cole unnecessarily pushed Shay away every single time and how his actions contradicted the words coming out of his mouth. It got annoying after a point. And when they finally did get together - which tbh, was for like 0.2 seconds - something drastic and life altering happens. The way Cole reacted after that made me really mad and I seriously contemplated slapping some sense into him. I would have left him if I were in Shay's position ngl. Also, I didn't really appreciate the slight ex drama - though that's just something that I don't like to see in books. Regardless, I found Fall Into You to be a good, fast paced and spicy read and would recommend it to anybody who really enjoys a lot of angst and push and pull dynamic between the couple. I'm so excited to read the next book in this series!!!

*Thank you to J.T. Geissinger and Valentine PR for providing me with an ARC!

I'll be honest I liked Cal way better than Cole. I felt Cal was more obsessed and head over heels for his woman. Cole was pushed away pull push away. A lot, and it annoyed me. Let's start over!

Shay dealing with a break up meets Cole at a bar, and their first meeting was cute they were both sassy and sparky to one another it was funny. And boom, they have a one night stand! And find out weeks later Shay is his new assistant! And it's we can't be together because of my life. Which was annoying again.

But poor Shay 😢 I swear that man I wanted to shake him so much. He even saved her from being raped! But he still keeps her at arms length. And that ending twist......WTF and not in a good wtf way. It felt rushed and made no sense! I felt bad for Cole. But still wtf.

Low angst, no ow/om drama, no cheating, slight secondary character, tiny drama, sexy times, no virgins

⚠️There’s OW drama in this.
⚠️Why is there a book about a MMC who isn’t even like morally gray? (He did unali e some people tho)
⚠️Tons of push away from h
⚠️He doesn’t grovel
⚠️Still in love w ex (ch3)
⚠️Moves ex in with him towards end of book (3rd act breakup) (in new released version this has been removed and doesn’t happen. So if your copy has this refresh or scroll through my comments to see what others did)
⚠️She pursues him
⚠️The ex and him had been together for 5 years after we’re told he doesn’t do relationships 🤦🏻‍♀️

Is it good ? Yep.
Is it kinda funny? Yep
Do I like the guy and the girl individually? Yep
Do I like them as a couple? Yep, no, idk?!?!

Then why this book irritated me so much?
Idk I can’t explain, there’s literally nothing bad about it and it’s not even a dark romance. Most people like this book more than the first and if I am being honest, it is a better story. I just got completely irritated by the book. Don’t let my review stir you. If you like the author, read it. I am just being dramatic, that’s what I do.

Gawd darn stinky butthole I didn't really like this book. 😐

I usually love JT geissinger books and most of her books are amazing. This one......was not 😂😂😂🙈🤷

Honestly, I wanted to dnf in the first part of the book where they meet at the bar. ( I should have 👀) they just kept talking and talking and talking and it wasn't funny, it wasn't cute, it wasn't really sexy because h kept complaining about her ex bf CHET and I was like this biatch stupid if she was with someone like that anyway, run dude!

Then she finds out through book 1s h that he's looking for a assistant and she gets the job.

He does work to help people disappear from their lives may it be abusive or they need help and he keeps her way because his job is so dangerous??? Yet he walks around his company and home and puts everyone he's around in danger with no bodyguards or anything? Mmmm.....okur.

Then the end.

Geez.

No one is putting it in their reviews? What's the big secret? They get in a car accident and he tells her that he's breaking up with her aka the third act break up. He is unable to walk but finds out later that its not a serious serious vertebrae injury and he might be able to walk in the future. But still, he pushes her away til he meets her again at the bar they first met at.

You know what really really bothered me? That the nurse who changed his bedding at the hospital called him Mr. Big because HIS GINORMOUS penis and then the whole staff of nurses start calling him that. That is the most unprofessional and cringy thing I've read in awhile to name someone who is going through a trauma and calling him by his penis size by professionals whose job is to help them get better 😭😭😭. Anyone else bothered? Really bothered? Just me? Okur. 🤷🤷🙈

it wasn't really funny or engaging or fun to read. Its like her matchmaking book with that football player that no one talks about and for good reason 👀😂🙈

Wish I dnfed

Shay was a feisty heroine that didn't follow the norm. Her first interaction with Cole had me grinning from ear to ear. Even as he was sending some strong keep away vibes, she settled in first for the night and then for their future.

Cole was freaking amazing! I loved how he was drawn to her even before they met. He was not a warm cuddly hero and that had me whooping for joy when he found himself falling heart first for her. He was the very definition of the mighty have fallen.

May be a black-and-white image of 1 person

Shay and Cole's journey was filled with sizzling intensity, scenes so hot they just about melted my Kindle, and angst so heart wrenching I wanted to throw the book across the room. Everything in between had me laughing out loud, encouraging them on, and cranking down the air conditioner.

ETA 9/28/23: The author has stated that the released version has a new ending. I read the last 15% of the published version. It does not have a new ending. It has extended versions of existing conversations, some new conversations that didn’t impact the story, and a new “thing” that occurs that has no impact on the overall ending. What occurs, the sequence of events, how Cole acts, Shay’s reaction, the important aspects of what made the ending the same as the arc copy. Calling it “new” is disingenuous and doesn’t change my review.

——-

I really loved Shay in this and how supportive and strong she was in the beginning. She held Cole accountable and called him out - to a point, and then she sort of became a doormat. One of the things that drove me crazy is how hot/cold he would be with her. He’s telling her he wants to be her and having sex with her and a second later, not talking to her for a week. It wasn’t morally grey, it was just annoying. He is possessive and obsessive with her which I liked but for gods sake man, do you want her or not?!

This book felt off. I can’t put my finger on it except that it didn’t feel like it belongs in the Liars Like Us universe and just in general didn’t really grab me the way this authors books normally do. It kind of wanders around in terms of plot and even the twist was a let down. And then at 91% in, we have a plot curveball that needed way more time for resolution than it’s given. There’s far too many moving pieces at the end that could have, with extra pages, made sense and had the emotional impact but instead I was just going “seriously? 95% and this is happening NOW?”

And to circle back to how he treated Shay - there is NO “I’m sorry”. He’s just like “I changed my mind (againnnn)” and she’s fine with it. It was disappointing. He was toxic and treated her just as badly as her ex.

As much as I normally loveee this authors books, this one just wasn’t it for me. I look forward to reading future books in the series and continue to love JT but this one unfortunately fell short for me.

3.75 ⭐️ for the banter, Shay and Chelsea, and immaculate spice (as always)

Thank you to Valentine PR and JT Geissinger for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Gah!! Noone can write steam and sassy banter like J.T. Geissinger. I absolutely fell in love with Cole and Shay. This story was emotional, so sexy and addicting. I absolutely adored Shay and her inner monologue. She was hilarious at times but so strong in her convictions. I love how she held her ground against Cole. And what can I say about Cole other than he is EVERYTHING! I thought Callum took the cake in the first book but Cole may edge him out. I loveeeed his growly and obsessive behavior and how Shay was it for him, even when he thought he was too damaged and dangerous for her. I love love love this story! Bravo 5 stars! ~Ratula

You got me again JT. I almost threw this book across the room at 90% but I have faith in you, and you delivered once again. I loved this book and I think I read it in record time. Shay is awesome and I love that she pushes for what she wants and doesn't take no for an answer. Cole, poor Cole. He is a tortured soul but I'm so glad him & Shay work so well together.

The banter is delicious and the spicy scenes were *chef's kiss* (hello stairwell scene). I laughed, I cried, I swooned. This is a must read spicy rom com.

"If I fall into you, promise you'll catch me". Hell yes.

"There’s no justice in this world for good people. Only evil gets what it wants."

“That’s why religion was created. Without an afterlife to hope for, most of us would give up and slit our wrists.”

The story was too rushed with unsolved plot. Only thing that I enjoyed in this book was the banter between the MC's and the side characters, hence, 3 stars 🤐

The starting seemed so promising so are the quotes:

"Many months later, after both our hearts are battered and bloodied, after all our tears have been shed and we’re strangers once again, I’ll look back on this moment and realize I was already lost."

"Many months later, I’ll look back on this moment and realize I never had a chance. I was a goner the second she sat down next to me and smiled."

"Christian Grey'in yoğun çocukluk travması nedeniyle çoklu kişilik bozukluğu vardır. Edward Cullen, Bella'nın kanını içerek onu öldürmek isteyen kontrolcü bir sapıktır. Bay Darcy, sakatlayıcı sosyal anksiyetesi ve alt sınıfa karşı önyargısı olan kibirli bir pisliktir. Yine de tüm bu kusurlu karakterler milyonlarca kadına kırık dökük erkeklerin bir şekilde ideal olduğunu ya da sadece doğru kadın onları severse ideal olabileceklerini düşünmeleri için ilham verdi."

* * *

"Neden beyaz bir çit olmak zorunda? Neden başka bir şey olamıyor? Neden Bay Darcy'nin insanları küçümsemek yerine öldürdüğü ve Elizabeth Bennett'in kemikleri öğütüp güllerini gübrelemek için kullandığı Gurur ve Önyargı'nın Wes Craven versiyonu gibi bir şey olmasın?"

Update: so the version I read was the original version with all the stuff that made people angry. Why are there even two versions???? What kind of mess is this??

If this had been any other author I would have tapped out after the first 15% because that first meeting and dialogue was crriiiiinge. No one talks like that.

So many problems with this book...

Insta love/lust which I hate

The way they spoke to each other was so cheesy and OTT. I get it's a romance book but it was too much and so unrealistic

To much push/pull from the H

The H claims he doesn't do relationships but he just got out of a 5 year relationship with a woman he still loves.

Where was the resolution with his ex btw?? They're still friends and does he still love her??? I mean he still loved her when him and Shay first meet.

No office romance at all really which at least would have given us a plot because there really was no plot

Barely any details on his second job, it's all so vague that it seemed superficial

That last 10% WTF

Like actually what the actual fuck was that ending???? Nothing happens in the book besides them fucking and going around in circles about a relationship and then we get that last bit and it's rushed.

I have so many questions about the ending and whether stuff still works, it was vague and I didn't like it at all 💊

I'm not even looking forward to other books in this series. Carter seems lame and maybe Chelsea could be ok but even then I just don't really care that much about her.

I'm loving this Morally Gray series. The heroine was stubborn but in such a good way. She was funny and I like that she didn't tip toe around Cole. Cole's resistance normally would have been something I don't like, but not once did he ever make me think he wasn't all in for Shay. That allowed me to disregard his resistance just as Shay disregarded it. I had fun reading their story.

5⭐️ I have never had such an emotional connection to a character before.

Shay. I love her. She’s a fkn firecracker. Feisty and ballsy and she’ll give as good as she gets. She’s not afraid to fight back or back down. She takes control and she won’t let it go unless you deserve it. God and the way she cares for and loves Cole is so profound. I can’t even imagine it. It was devastating to read in the best ways.

Cole. Mr. Dark & Stormy. Delicious. Moody and broody but somehow controlled. He felt like an enigma. What he also felt is deep obsession for Shay and I gobbled it up. He’s so lonely. I felt it. It resonated with me. I love his character. He’s such a broken hero. Barely even an antihero. He thinks he’s the villain in everyone’s story, that he will be no matter what, so he ensures that doesn’t happen by walking away from everyone which only makes him the hero. And no one gets that but Shay. I absolutely adore him. He’s so damaged. I don’t think I’ve ever felt such kinship, such a connection to male character before. I broke for this man who believed himself so undeserving of anything good in life. All his thoughts, the way he felt, the way he spoke, the way he saw himself and reacted to things, the things he wanted, I don’t know, I can barely explain it but I just felt such a connection to him. I felt understood by this character and understood him in return. Like he’s the tough, dangerous guy, who murders abusers and awful people for the good of others, and he gets in this accident and what does he do throughout rehab and recovery and in conversation with family? He cries. He just fucking cries. Constantly.

The way loved her so much and received and believed in her love for him so wholly that given everything he still felt comfortable proposing to her and locking her down despite the fact that everything has changed and he’s not the same and needs to be cared for is huge. Character development. “I still don’t think I deserve her, but I’m selfish enough that I no longer let it get in the way.”

The way they’re just so perfectly in tune from the get. They see and understand each other like no one else ever has. Their connection was so palpable. It seemed like no one had truly seen or understood or even cared for Cole before her and it fucking shifted his life. Truly. I just loved everything about these two. I loved this more than Callum & Emery and I can’t imagine Carter’s story topping this. It was devastating. In tragic and good ways.

I liked Chelsea but sometimes her lack of support sometimes pissed me off.

Now I don’t know that this is actually a five star book. I don’t really think it is. However, the way it made me feel and react and is what makes it five stars for me.

“My broken pieces make music with hers.”

“I asked her to catch me if I fall, but the reality is that I’ve already fallen.”

“I think you’re beautiful. All your parts. All your broken pieces. They’re beautiful to me, and so are you. So if I never get the chance to tell you again, I’m telling you now that if you and your monsters ever decide you need a home, you have one in me.”

“Be careful what you wish for, baby. And if I ever say I love you, be afraid. Because my love isn’t soft. It isn’t pretty. It’s the monster hiding under your bed in the dark.”

Unhinged, but in a good way…

I’m trying to decide how to describe this book and rate it, so we are just going to have to go on this journey together.

📔 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼: Fall into You, the second book in the Morally Gray series by JT Geissinger.

📚𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: ONS, opposites attract, billionaire romance, workplace romance, unhinged men.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Shay and Cole have a one night stand for the ages. Months later, Shay starts her new job - as the assistant to the broody, horrible tempered boss, Cole. But Cole is much more than what he seems on the surface, and the pair decide to try to fight their attraction.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: I’ll start this how I start all of my JT Geissinger reviews… on her sliding scale of madness, this one was a 7.5 out of 10.

You get a ton of twists - nothing is as it seems, ever - and a whole lot of feels. I can’t tell you exactly what happens because man… I want you to have those “what, what?!” moments I had.

But I can tell you if you liked book one, you’ll love book two. And if you don’t mind completely unhinged billionaires, Cole is going to be one of your new favorite book boyfriends. And I can also say… Shay is a fun female lead you can really get behind.

Other than that. You know I’m going to tell you to go in blind!

📝 𝗔 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲… You don’t have to read book one to understand book two. But as JTG’s books are now interconnected in one way or another, you might miss a tiiiiiny bit of nuance. I don’t think it will kill your experience, tho.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
